Electrochromic smart windows represent a promising technology for reducing building energy consumption through dynamic photo-thermal regulation. However, scalable fabrication of high-performance electrochromic films remains challenging. Herein, we pioneer slot-die coating technique and aqueous inks for the high-speed production (600 cm 2 /min) of Wadsley-Roth structure TiNb 2 O 7 films. Experimental and theoretical analyses reveal that the open crystallographic shear channels in TiNb 2 O 7 enable efficient ion transport with a low diffusion barrier of 0.22 eV, allowing it to achieve a high diffusion coefficient (6.34 × 10 −10 cm 2 /s), good uniformity, and 82.8% large optical modulation at 600 nm. We constructed a series of large-scale electrochromic devices with a size up to 200 cm 2 that demonstrate significant optical modulation (64.6%), rapid switching (23.4/12.4 s), and uniform coloration. We evaluated the photo-thermal management performance of the device using a xenon lamp as a simulated solar source, achieving a notable temperature regulation of 18.8°C. To further validate its practical applicability, we conducted an outdoor test, demonstrating a temperature modulation of ∼5.0°C. Additionally, energy simulation analyses reveal that the device enables an energy saving of 155 MJ·m −2 . This work provides a scalable manufacturing strategy for high-performance electrochromic devices, advancing the development of intelligent energy-saving window technology.

Graphical Incorporation of in-situ Sn 4+ doping and nano-macro structure within TNO anode materials using facile one-step co-precipitation method achieves high Li + diffusion coefficient and excellent high-rate reversible capacities. Titanium niobium oxide (TNO) exhibits great potential as a lithium-ion battery anode due to its high capacity, minimal volume change during cycling, and safe good operation characteristic enabled from its voltage profile. However, its intrinsically low electronic and ionic conductivity hinders its potential for practical applications. This work proposes a facile coprecipitation method to address these limitations by incorporating a nano-macro structure and in situ Sn ion doping into bulk TNO. This approach ensures homogeneous integration of TNO precursors and the Sn dopant at a molecular level within the co-precipitation nanoparticles. Additionally, the use of low toxicity solvents facilitate scalability of the synthesis process. Excellent rate capability, high reversible capacities, and good capacity retention are achieved simultaneously due to synergistic effects of the bulk doping, which expands the crystal volume and enhances Li + diffusion, combined with abundant surface area of the nano-macro structures. The specific capacity of Sn-doped TNO nanospheres remains at 180 mAh/g at a high current density of 40 C (1 C=400 mA g −1 ), which is nearly four times higher than that of undoped samples. Furthermore, the cyclic voltammetry analysis at various scanning rates reveals an increased Li + diffusion rate in Sn doped titanium niobium dioxide.

As a competitor for Li4Ti5O12 with a higher capacity and extreme safety, monoclinic TiNb2O7 has been considered as a promising anode material for next-generation high power lithium ion batteries. However, TiNb2O7 suffers from low electronic conductivity and ionic conductivity, which restricts the electrochemical kinetics. Herein, a facile and advanced architecture design of hierarchical TiNb2O7 microspheres is successfully developed for large-scale preparation without any surfactant assistance. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the one step solvothermal synthesis of TiNb2O7 microspheres with micro- and nano-scale composite structures. When evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion batteries, the electrode exhibits excellent high rate capacities and ultra-long cyclability, such as 258 mA h g−1 at 1 C, 175 mA h g−1 at 5 C, and 138 mA h g−1 at 10 C, extending to more than 500 cycles.

TiNb 2 O 7 (TNO) is an attractive anode material for high-safety lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its medium working potential and competitive theoretical capacity. The main challenges associated with TNO anodes are ultralow electronic conductivity and structural instability, leading to poor power and cycling performances. Herein, we prepare MXene wrapped porous TNO spheres with oxygen vacancies (TNO - x @MXene). It is found that introducing MXene and oxygen vacancies into TNO anode can result in electronic conductivity enhancement about four orders of magnitude while building a porous structure allows Li + (de-)intercalation reactions to dominantly occur at the material near-surface, boosting interfacial electron/ Li + transfer kinetics. Meanwhile, 3D conductive networks constructed by flexible MXene nanoflakes also help retain electrical connectivity, minimizing electrode degradation during cycling. In half cells, the TNO - x @MXene material demonstrates high reversible capacity (264 mAh g −1 at 0.1C), superior cycling stability (0.03 % capacity fading per cycle during 1000 cycles at 4C), extraordinary rate capability (78 mAh g −1 at 100C), and high initial Coulombic efficiency (92.2 %). With LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 (NCM811) cathode, the assembled liquid-state full cells exhibit excellent capacity retention of 91.5 % after 1000 cycles at 5C. Importantly, for the first time, we explore the potential of as-made TNO composite as the anode of all-solid-state LIBs with an inorganic sulfide electrolyte (Li 6 PS 5 Cl). The solid-state TNO - x @MXene//NCM811 batteries also demonstrate stable cycling ability (98 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 2C). The methodology can also be used to modify other electrode materials with low conductivity and structural instability for LIBs and beyond.

Elemental interdiffusion and interfacial side reactions between sulfide solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) and nickel-rich layered oxide cathodes inevitably form high-impedance, ion-insulating phases at cathode/electrolyte (C/E) interface, which severely degrades the electrochemical performance of all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs). Herein, we propose a crystallinity-tailored TiNb 2 O 7 (TNO) coating strategy for LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 (NCM811) cathodes and the long-term interfacial stability of NCM811/SSE interfaces. The ion-conductive yet electron-insulating TNO coating not only guarantees rapid Li + migration across the C/E interface but also effectively suppresses the oxidative decomposition of SSEs at high voltage. More importantly, compared with the high-crystallinity TNO coating, the low-crystallinity counterpart exhibits superior structural adaptability, which can well accommodate the volume changes of NCM811 during Li + insertion/extraction. This unique structural advantage endows the TNO coating with durable protective capability for NCM811 cathodes, especially under high-current-density cycling conditions. Benefiting from the above synergistic effects, the NCM811 cathode modified with low-crystallinity TNO coating synthesized at 500°C (NCM811@T500) delivers a high specific discharge capacity of 150.9 mAh g − 1 after 100 cycles at 0.069 mA cm − 2 and 25°C. This work provides a novel crystallinity-regulation strategy for cathode surface modification, and offers valuable insights into the rational design of high-performance protective coatings for nickel-rich cathodes in sulfide-based ASSLBs.

High-power lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are critical for power-intensive applications; however, their development is largely hindered by the lack of anode materials that have stability and high capacity at high charging/discharging rates. Herein, a cationic disordering strategy is reported to build an ideal high-power anode with boosted intercalation kinetics and a stable framework. A novel titanium niobate (TiNb 2 O 7 ) anode with unique predistorted Nb(Ti)O 6 octahedrons (pd-TNO) is developed by introducing cation disorder, which allows ultrafast Li + storage within seconds and exceptional stability over long cycling at high rates. The pd-TNO delivers an outstanding specific capacity of 153 mAh g −1 at 100 C, 20 times higher than that of conventional TNO anodes without cationic disordering, and retains 42.8% of the capacity after 15,000 cycles. Using the pd-TNO anode, a high-power LIB with an unprecedented power density of 91,197 W kg −1 at 200 C, which is approximately eight times higher than that of the advanced commercial high-power anode Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (11,813 W kg −1 at 50 C), is demonstrated. Importantly, the pd-TNO is prepared under ambient conditions via a high-throughput process, and it exhibits considerable potential for scalability for practical applications.

The development of high-performance solid-state batteries (SSBs) that integrate high safety with high energy density has long been pursued. However, conventional lithium-containing anode materials are unable to balance these two requirements, thereby necessitating the exploration of lithium-free anodes for SSBs. In the current study, a core–shell lithium-free α-Fe2O3@TiNb2O7 (TNO) nanofiber composite is synthesized and applied as an SSB anode. The confinement effect from the hollow TNO nanotubes on the encapsulated α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles can buffer the volume-change crushing during charging/discharging, leading to robust structural stability. Moreover, the high rate capability of TNO and high capacity of α-Fe2O3 work synergistically to provide superior electrochemical performances. The prepared α-Fe2O3@TNO composite delivers twice the reversible capacity (625 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1) of pristine TNO as well as a remarkably prolonged cycle life (500 cycles with 79.2% capacity retention) and an improved rate performance (305 mA h g−1 at 3 A g−1) compared with those of α-Fe2O3, making this composite the most efficient TNO-based anode material ever reported. By pairing the composite with the high-energy Li[Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1]O2 (NCM811) cathode, the SSB full cell exhibits a high energy density of 400 W h kg−1. These results demonstrate the feasibility and great potential of the proposed lithium-free anode material in SSBs for practical applications.
