The direct oxidative transfer process (DOTP) is a novel degradation-mineralisation system for the treatment of organic trace contaminants in water pollution, which are present with extremely high energy and/or chemical additions as well as large residues due to partial mineralisation. In this study, an enol-conjugated LDH (ACLDH) catalyst capable of interacting with persulfate was used, and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) was degraded under visible light irradiation, and experimental and theoretical results showed that the ACLDH catalyst efficiently regulated its electrons. Under optimal experimental conditions, the ACLDH material acted as a catalyst to activate and stabilise the DOTP process on the surface of the nanocatalyst, resulting in the complete removal of TC within 35 min with up to 25 % mineralisation. In addition, the study investigated the effects of starting pH, catalyst dosage, several common inorganic anions and humic acid on TC removal. DOTP based on the ACLDH/PMS/Vis system is a very promising nanotechnology for water purification with strong performance in real waste leachate (up to 12 % TOC mineralisation) and disinfection applications.

A stable, efficient and pollution-free treatment system should be urgently developed to boost the application of green and sustainable photocatalytic materials in practical wastewater composite remediation. two-dimensional (2D) red phosphorus (RP)/ZnAl-LDH (Layered Double Hyroxides) photocatalyst photocatalysts were developed in this study. The optimized RPLDH0.8 (RP/ZnAl-LDH0.8)/Vis system was found with a high tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) degradation rate of 89% in 90 min. Moreover, the total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate was obtained as 21%. As indicated by the results of the experiments and characterization, the fast catalytic process arose from the S-scheme charge transfer pathway in RP/ZnAl-LDH. Furthermore, the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and the radical capture assays were performed to investigate the probable TC photodegradation pathway and the primary reactive radicals in the photocatalytic process. The results of the bio-acute toxicity-based assays suggested that the RPLDH0.8/Vis system detoxified the transformation products . Lastly, the above RPLDH0.8/Vis system was found with high removal rates for other organic pollutants while showing high removal performance in different natural water bodies. Besides, the leaching concentration of total Zn in each of the five cycles of the degradation experiments was significantly lower than the national level discharge standard, suggesting that the RPLDH0.8/Vis system degraded TC without secondary heavy metal contamination. As revealed by the above findings, a novel strategy was proposed to prepare RP/ZnAl-LDH photocatalysts for the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics.

The incalculable metal corrosion loss makes the research of long-term corrosion resistant coatings attract much attention. Herein, we demonstrated a new strategy for constructing a pH-responsive nanocontainer as a gatekeeper, which consisted of a laminated double hydroxide (LDH) surface in situ grown ZIF-8 containing the corrosion inhibitor of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBM). The shell-core structures of the composite fillers displayed the excellent barrier performance and pH-responsive controlled release properties in epoxy (EP) coatings. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and salt spray tests were conducted to investigate the multifunctional role in providing an intelligent anti-corrosion MBM@ZIF-8@LDH/EP composite coating . After immersing in salt solution (3.5 wt%) for 30 days, the impedance value of the MBM@ZIF-8@LDH/EP coating at 0.01 Hz (|Z| 0.01 Hz ) was 2.82 × 10 8 Ω∙cm 2 , which was about four orders of magnitude higher than that of the epoxy coating (1.54 × 10 4 Ω∙cm 2 ). The outstanding corrosion protection of MBM@ZIF-8@LDH was attributed to not only the compactness improvement of the composite coating, but also the anion exchange capability to act as a storage station for chloride ions. Meanwhile, the active filler could be used as a pH-responsive nanocontainer to release the loaded corrosion inhibitor of MBM and prevented further damage to the steel substrate, displaying a self-healing behavior. This strategy provides a new idea to combine perfect barrier effect and active anti-corrosion performance to prepare high-performance anti-corrosion and self-healing coatings. The multi-protective smart anti-corrosive coating would be a candidate with excellent performance for use in a variety of fields.

This study presents the successful development of a novel floatable photocatalyst, EPLDH, exhibiting exceptional enrichment and degradation capabilities for nitenpyram (NTP) under visible light irradiation. Structural characterization via EPR confirmed that the carbon-oxygen dual-defect electronic defect zones in EPLDH significantly enhance photogenerated charge carrier separation efficiency. Crucially, the reduction of surface-coordination-induced negative charge was identified as the key factor driving the superior catalytic performance of the optimized EPLDH0.2 sample. Degradation kinetic experiments demonstrated that the EPLDH0.2/Vis system achieved complete NTP removal within 40 minutes–1.6 times higher than control systems (EP/Vis: 62 %; ZnAl-LDH/Vis: 67 %). This remarkable performance stems from synergistic effects: (1) morphology regulation and defect engineering, (2) efficient Z-scheme heterojunction charge transfer, and (3) interfacial enrichment enabled by the catalyst's floatability, collectively boosting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and utilization. EPLDH0.2 exhibited broad-spectrum degradation capability, efficiently removing 22 emerging contaminants (ECs), underscoring its anti-interference capacity and universal applicability. Practical validation in an immobilized dual continuous-flow system under natural sunlight confirmed high removal efficiency for NTP, bisphenol A, and ciprofloxacin, offering a cost-effective solution for aquatic micropollutant remediation. Mechanistic studies identified 1 O 2 , •O 2 − , and h + as dominant active species through quenching experiments and ESR analysis. Degradation pathways of NTP, including alkyl chain cleavage, nucleophilic ring-opening, and decarboxylation, were proposed based on intermediate analysis, Fukui index calculations, and electrostatic potential distribution. Ecological toxicity assessments confirmed significant reduction after mineralization, ensuring environmental safety.

Nanocontainers encapsulating corrosion inhibitors are commonly incorporated into organic coatings to enable self-healing effects, thereby ensuring long-term anticorrosion performance. In this study, a novel dual corrosion inhibitor-loaded self-healing nanocontainer with core-shell structure was proposed for fabricating composite waterborne epoxy coatings with both active and passive corrosion prevention properties. The nanocontainer, named BTA-ZIF-8@LDH-Mo, was synthesized through the in-situ growth of molybdate-intercalated ZnAl layered double hydroxide (LDH-Mo) on the surface of 1H-benzotriazole-inbuilt zeolitic imidazolate framework (BTA-ZIF-8). Potentiodynamic polarization results showed that the I corr of bare Q235 carbon steel immersed in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution decreased from 4.658 × 10 −6 A/cm 2 to 1.274 × 10 −6 A/cm 2 after introducing BTA-ZIF-8@LDH-Mo nanocontainers, resulting in a superior corrosion inhibition efficiency of 72.65 %. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy further demonstrated that the |Z| f=0.01Hz of epoxy coating doped with BTA-ZIF-8@LDH-Mo reached 4.24 × 10 9 Ω·cm 2 after 42 d of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, approximately 30 times higher than that of pure EP coating. Moreover, investigations on artificially scratched coatings indicated that the incorporation of BTA-ZIF-8@LDH-Mo nanocontainers effectively mitigated the corrosion process by forming an inhibiting layer on the metal substrate that impeded the corrosion process. The dual corrosion inhibitor strategy relies on the synergistic action of BTA pre-loaded in ZIF-8 nanoparticles and molybdate ( MoO 4 2- ) intercalated in LDH interlayers for active corrosion protection . Additionally, the nanocontainers enhance passive protection by elongating the diffusion paths of corrosive media and trapping chloride ions. This nanocontainer design offers a facile strategy for fabricating a smart coating with the excellent anticorrosion properties.
