Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful tool to acquire the fingerprint information of molecules rapidly, sensitively, and noninvasively. Its application in sample analysis, however, suffers from low repeatability due to the interference of the sample matrix. To address this issue, a microfluidic device was developed to realize all-in-one sample preparation and SERS detection for the online analysis of deltamethrin in meat products. This device was constructed using a microfluidic sample preparation unit and a droplet SERS detection unit. Through flow rate control, analytes at appropriate concentrations can be continuously encapsulated into online-generated microdroplets with SERS substrate Ag nanoparticle-coated Au nanoparticles. Stronger intensities with smaller relative standard deviations were observed by accumulating the Raman signals of microdroplets. Using the microfluidic SERS device, the enhancement factors of rhodamine 6G and deltamethrin were 2.7 × 107 and 3.8 × 105, respectively, with RSDs less than 4.0% (n = 19). Moreover, this device can be reused more than 7 times through simple cleaning procedures. The established microfluidic SERS analytical method has a linear range of 30.0–500 μg L−1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9953, and the limit of detection was 11.6 μg L−1 (S/N = 3). The established microfluidic SERS method was applied to deltamethrin analysis in chicken skin, chicken and grass carp; 32.8 μg kg−1 of deltamethrin was found in the chicken skin sample. The accuracy and precision of the method were confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography and recovery test results, indicating its potential for application in food safety.

In this study, a SiO 2 aerogel/chitosan/humic acid composite (SA-CS-HA) was synthesized through co-precipitation for efficient removal of deltamethrin (DM) from water, and its potential application in fruit and vegetable juices was explored. SA-CS-HA exhibited a predominantly microporous and mesoporous structure, with its specific surface area of 483.24 m 2 /g, its pore volume of 0.61 cc/g, and its pore diameter of 1.43 nm. The FT-IR analysis revealed that SA-CS-HA contained abundant reactive functional groups, including carboxyl, hydroxyl, and aromatic compounds. And the thermal stability of composite SA-CS-HA was enhanced. The optimal conditions for DM absorption by SA-CS-HA were determined as followers: a temperature of 30 ℃, DM concentration of 20 mg/L, pH of 4, adsorbent dosage of 4 mg, and the adsorption time of 600 min. The kinetics study showed that the adsorption data conform to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model; the Langmuir model suggested that the monolayer adsorption occurred on the surface of SA-CS-HA, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 209.52 mg/g at 30 ℃; the Dubinin-Radushkevich model indicated that adsorption was a physical process; the thermodynamics analysis affirmed the spontaneous nature of adsorption, with its physicochemical properties not affected during application to fruit and vegetable juices. Additionally, the study of the adsorption mechanism of SA-CS-HA highlighted the significant role of electrostatic attraction, accompanied by hydrogen bonding interactions involving oxygen-containing functional groups such as -OH and -COOH in SA-CS-HA.

This study investigates the combined effects of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) and deltamethrin (DEL) on mice, focusing on their different impacts among organs. Mice were exposed to PS-NPs and/or DEL for 30 days. Results showed that PS-NPs alleviated DEL-induced oxidative damage in the liver and kidney by reducing its accumulation due to decreased bioaccessibility. Conversely, PS-NPs increased DEL accumulation in the intestine, leading to enhanced susceptibility to enteric infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites, as indicated by transcriptomic analysis. PS-NPs delayed DEL excretion by reducing gastrointestinal motility, as evidenced by altered neurotransmitter levels, thereby contributing to greater intestinal accumulation of DEL. Moreover, 16S rDNA sequencing revealed that PS-NPs tended to decrease beneficial bacteria and increase pathogenic bacteria in the gut microbiota, further heightening susceptibility to enteric infections upon coexposure. The findings of this study shed new light on the complex health risks associated with coexposure to nanoplastics and pesticides.

A novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) based strategy is described for the rapid identification and quantitative determination of deltamethrin and its metabolite 3-phenoxybenzaldehyde in biological samples. A multifunctional sensor was developed using metal-organic framework-801 (MOF-801) and silver nanoflowers (Ag NFs), synthesizing an Ag NFs/MOF-801 composite. This composite is a dual-function material, acting as both a SERS substrate and an adsorbent, which was integrated into a portable 10-well plate. The addition of MOF-801 enhances enrichment selectivity and efficiency, while the abundant tips and rough surfaces of Ag NFs significantly improve SERS sensitivity. The determination of deltamethrin revealed a marked linear relationship between the SERS signal intensity and the logarithmic analyte concentration, with R-values falling within a range 0.959 to 0.972, with detection limits between 0.07 and 0.15 ppb, indicating suitability for clinical applications. This method successfully analyzed a patient sample, showing strong agreement with conventional chromatographic results while ensuring both practicality and accuracy. Notably, the detection process does not necessitate any sample preparation and can be completed within five min, highlighting its potential as an efficient and user-friendly POCD sensor for diagnosing poisoning in emergency settings.

This study was aimed to evaluate the ameliorative effects of thymol-supplemented diets on the toxicity damage of Channa argus induced by deltamethrin (DEL). After 28 d, the results are as follows: thymol can attenuate DEL-induced oxidative stress by reversing the decrease of the activities of antioxidant enzyme (SOD, CAT , GSH , GST and GSH-Px) and the increase of the MDA content in the tissues (liver and spleen), and also by reversing the decrease of the mRNA expression levels of Nrf2, Cu/Zn SOD and HO-1, and the increase of the Keap1 mRNA expression level in the tissues (liver and spleen). Thymol can attenuate DEL-induced immunotoxicity of fish by reverse the decrease of the levels of humoral immune parameters (C4, C3, IgM and LYS) in the serum, and by reversing the increase of the expression levels of NF-κB p65, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-8 and IL-6, and the decrease of the IL-10 expression level in the tissues (liver and spleen). Thymol can attenuate DEL-caused apoptosis reversing the increase of the expression levels of pro-apoptosis (p53, Bax and Apaf-1) and the decrease of the expression level of anti-apoptosis Bcl-2 in the tissues (liver and spleen). Therefore, this study reveals that dietary supplementation of thymol alleviates DEL-caused immunotoxicity, oxidative stress, and apoptosis of C. argus in association with the NF-κB/Nrf2/p53 pathway.

The improper use of deltamethrin (DM) can result in its accumulation in soil, water, food, and even the human body, which is associated with an elevated risk of neurotoxicity and behavioral abnormalities; however, the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently investigated. Emerging evidence underscores the significance of the gut-brain axis in central nervous system (CNS) dysfunctions. Accordingly, this study investigates the role of the gut-brain axis in DM-induced behavioral anomalies in mice. The results showed that DM exposure induced depressive-like behavior, and the hippocampus, the region that is responsible for the modulation of emotional behavior, showed structural integrity disrupted (neuronal nuclear shrinkage and decreased tight junction protein expression). In addition, DM exposure led to compromised gut barrier integrity (disruptions on crypt surfaces and decreased tight junction protein expression), which might contribute to the gut bacterial-derived lipopolysaccharide (LPS) leakage into the bloodstream and reaching the brain, triggering LPS/toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 -mediated increases in brain pro-inflammatory cytokines. Subsequently, we observed a disturbance in neurotransmitter metabolic pathways following DM exposure, which inhibited the production of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). Additionally, DM exposure resulted in gut microbiota dysbiosis. Characteristic bacteria, such as Alistipes , Bifidobacterium , Gram-negative bacterium cTPY-13 , and Odoribacter exhibited significant correlations with behavior, tight junction proteins, inflammatory response, and neurotransmitters. Further fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) experiments suggested that DM-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis might contribute to depressive-like behavior. These results provide a new perspective on the toxicity mechanism of DM, indicating that its neurotoxicity may be partially regulated by the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

Silymarin has proven antioxidant activity and hepatoprotective effects, but no study to date has investigated the potential protective effect on deltamethrin-induced hepatopancreas injury in Chinese mitten crabs Eriocheir sinensis . This study investigated the protective effect of silymarin pretreatment on deltamethrin-induced hepatopancreas injury in E.sinensis . Healthy crabs (n = 150) were randomly divided into five experimental groups: the control, a deltamethrin exposure group (Basal feed without silymarin), and three silymarin groups (addition of 0.1, 0.5, or 1.0 g/kg diet to the basal feed). After 6 weeks of feeding (no deltamethrin exposure), the crabs were exposed to a deltamethrin concentration of 4.317 μg/L for 48 h. Histopathological results showed that the hepatopancreas remained relatively intact in the silymarin pretreatment groups. Furthermore, metabolites annotated by LC–MS were mainly enriched in signaling pathways related to cytochrome P450, terpenoid alkaloid biosynthesis and phospholipid metabolism. Silymarin at 0.1, 1.0 and/or 0.5 g/kg were significantly increased AKP, ACP, GSH activities and T-AOC levels, and significantly decreased AST, ALT, TNF-α, IL-6, NO, TC, MDA, CYP3A and CYP2E1 levels ( P < 0.05). Silymarin at the concentation of 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 g/kg could significantly up-regulated the expressions of immune-related genes ( propo , alf3 , crustin1 , hsp70 , hsp90 , relish ), anti-apoptotic gene ( bcl-2 ), and significantly down-regulated the lipid metabolism-related genes ( cpt1 , srebp , acc ) and apoptosis-related genes ( caspase3 , caspase8 , p53 , cyt-c ) ( P < 0.05). Silymarin at 0.5 and/or 1.0 g/kg significantly down-regulated the mRNA expression of inflammation-related genes ( tnf-α , il-16 ) and drug metabolism-related genes ( cyp2a , cyp2e1 , cyp3a ) ( P < 0.05). The results demonstrate a good protective effect of 1.0 g/kg silymarin on deltamethrin-induced hepatopancreas injury induced by deltamethrin in a crustacean species.

The construction of multifunctional sensors has attracted considerable attention due to their multifunctional properties, such as high sensitivity and rapid detection. Herein, near-infrared multifunctional fluorescent sensing materials based on core-shell upconversion nanoparticle@magnetic nanoparticle and molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized for rapid detection of deltamethrin. The difunctional core-shell upconversion nanoparticle@magnetic nanoparticle was introduced as the optical signal and rapid separator. Firstly, the difunctional core-shell materials were prepared through solvothermal method. Then, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as recognition elements for deltamethrin were coated on the surface of upconversion nanoparticle@magnetic nanoparticle through polymerization. The structure and recognition characterizations of multifunctional fluorescent sensing materials were evaluated. Under optimal condition, the imprinting factor of sensing materials was 3.63, and the fluorescence intensity of sensing materials decreased linearly with increasing concentration of deltamethrin from 0.001 to 1 mg L −1 with a detection limit of 0.749 μg L −1 , and a relative standard deviation of 3.10% was obtained with 5 mg L −1 deltamethrin. The sensing materials showed a high selectivity and were successfully utilized for the detection of deltamethrin in grapes and cabbages; the results showed that the recoveries for two samples obtained were 95.6–102% and 91.8–105%.
