Due to the large specific surface area and strong van der Waals force, bulk aggregation of nano-TiO2 immediately occurs when it is mixed with fresh cement mixture, limiting its reinforcing efficiency to cement-based materials. This study proposes a novel strategy to improve the mechanical and photocatalytic properties of cement mortar using nano-TiO2 hydrosol instead of conventional nano-TiO2 powder. Compared with pure mortar, the 28-day compressive and flexural strength of mortar with 0.6% by weight nano-TiO2 hydrosol were enhanced by 51% and 15%, respectively, the water absorption and chloride ion diffusion coefficient were decreased by 21% and 31%, respectively. The observed improvements were attributed to the denser microstructure and enhanced micromechanical properties in the bulk matrix and around interfacial transition zone (ITZ), resulting from the better dispersion of nano-TiO2 hydrosol in alkaline environment. In addition, compared with the mortar with nano-TiO2 powder, the degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B and NO by the mortar with nano-TiO2 hydrosol (0.6% by weight) was enhanced by 18.3% and 17.1% at 28 days, respectively. The enhancement resulted from the higher intrinsic photocatalytic activity and larger exposed surface area of nano-TiO2 hydrosol due to better dispersion. The research outcomes demonstrate the potential of using nano-TiO2 hydrosol in cement mortar to significantly increase the mechanical strength, durability, and photocatalytic activity, which can lead to the development of cement-based constructions with the integrated design of functionality and structure.

The goal of this paper is to improve the technical level of preparing composite photocatalysts with SiO 2 -supported nano-TiO 2 , expand the selection range of SiO 2 carriers, reduce expenses and understand the influence of SiO 2 crystallization behavior. Natural quartz (Q/SiO 2 ) powder was used as a carrier to prepare a Q/SiO 2 -TiO 2 composite photocatalyst by hydrolyzing a butyl titanate solution and performing high-temperature calcination of the hydrolysate. The performance, morphology, structure and mechanism were tested and characterized. In addition, the as-prepared photocatalyst was compared with other amorphous SiO 2 carrier composite photocatalysts. The results showed that the Q/SiO 2 surface of Q/SiO 2 -TiO 2 contained a uniform load of TiO 2 with a 26.98% proportion. Anatase-type TiO 2 was mainly present, and the size was 5–10 nm. Moreover, Q/SiO 2 and TiO 2 were firmly combined in the form of Si–O–Ti bonds between the interfaces. The degradation rate of Q/SiO 2 -TiO 2 to methyl orange solution was 99.59% under UV irradiation for 60 min, which was equivalent to that of pure nano-TiO 2 . The degradation performance remained stable after four cycles. Compared with other amorphous SiO 2 carriers, Q/SiO 2 exhibited a higher load of TiO 2 . Furthermore, Q/SiO 2 played a more significant role in inhibiting the phase transition of TiO 2 to rutile and improving the photocatalytic performance.

To promote anti-corrosion property of chemically bonded phosphate ceramic coatings (CBPCs), the nano-TiO 2 is selected as the reinforcement. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) and the electrochemical analysis are carried out to clarify the role of nano-TiO 2 on the improvement of anti-corrosion performance. The experiments show that with the addition of nano-TiO 2 , the curing temperature and the activation energy of the curing process increase, which allows longest reaction and positively drives curing reactions at elevated conversions. The enhancement of anti-corrosion performance of CBPCs reinforced by nano-TiO 2 particles is based on three main mechanisms. Firstly, more bonded phase (AlPO 4 ) can be formed with the addition of nano-TiO 2 , which can help CBPCs to get more compact microstructure. Additionally, AlPO 4 particles possess the low density and good corrosion resistance , which leads to the increase in the corrosion resistance of CBPCs. Secondly, increasing content of nano-TiO 2 can also strengthen the compactness of CBPCs to protect the substrates from the penetration of aggressive electrolyte and prolong electrolyte diffusion path . Thirdly, through the analysis of microstructure of CBPCs, it is found that most of the hydrophobic nano-TiO 2 particles homogeneously distribute on the surface of CBPCs. Therefore, CBPCs show well hydrophobic performance, which can further improve the anti-corrosion property of themselves.

Using nano-TiO 2 as stabilizer, a novel waterborne antibacterial Pickering emulsion containing epoxy-acrylate copolymer@nano-TiO 2 composite particles (PkE@NT) has been successfully prepared via emulsion polymerization. The core–shell composite nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), whose components were also confirmed by FT-IR and TGA. The mechanism of PkE@NT was suggested by monitoring the particle size changes in time. The average particle size was approximately 180 nm. Furthermore, water absorption of PkE@NT film got to 142 wt%, which showed good water absorption. The basic properties and antibacterial property of PkE@NT emulsion for interior coatings were also investigated. It showed that the emulsion had excellent adhesive force and antibacterial activity.

In this study, a series of nano-TiO2 composite materials, including nano-TiO2, nano-SnO2/TiO2, nano-SiO2/TiO2, and nano-Fe2O3/TiO2, were successfully synthesized via the gaseous detonation method. Comprehensive characterization of the synthesized samples was carried out through X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy/high-resolution TEM (TEM/HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, which unveiled the significant influence of precursor types on the microstructure of the composite materials. Specifically, the incorporation of Sn4+ promoted the transformation of TiO2 to the rutile phase, reducing particle sizes from 25 to 19 nm and increasing the specific surface area from 44 to 86 m2/g. In contrast, the introduction of SiO2 impeded the rutile phase formation, leading to a marked reduction in particle size to 14 nm and an enhancement of the specific surface area to 104 m2/g. Furthermore, the presence of Fe3+ promoted the formation of the rutile phase and enabled particle growth to 44 nm. These findings not only deepen the understanding of structural control in the synthesis of nano-TiO2 composite materials via the gaseous detonation method but also highlight the critical role of precursor selection in determining the properties of the resulting materials.

Nano-TiO 2 photocatalysis technology has attracted wide attention because of its safety, nontoxicity and long-lasting performance. However, traditional nano-TiO 2 has been greatly limited in its application because its wide band gap can only be activated by ultraviolet light (λ < 387 nm). In this paper, nano-TiO 2 was prepared by self-doping method. The synthesized nano-TiO 2 was a single anatase crystal type with a particle size of 10 nm and uniform size. In addition, nano-TiO 2 has high stability and good dispersion. More importantly, nano-TiO 2 exhibits excellent visible light (400–780 nm) activity due to the decrease of bandgap from 3.20 eV to 1.80 eV (less than 2.0 eV) and the presence of a large number of hydroxyl groups on the surface of the nanoparticles. In the antibacterial test, the antibacterial rate of both E.coli and S.aureus was close to 100 % under the irradiation of household low-power LED lamps, showing excellent antibacterial performance, indicating that the prepared nano-TiO 2 has broad application prospects in the field of bactericidal and bacteriostatic.

In this work, a simple photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor was developed using anatase TiO2 nanoparticles sensitized with iron(ffl) tetracarboxyl phthalocyanine (FeC4Pc@TiO 2 ) for detection of hydroquinone (HQ). The FeC 4 Pc@TiO 2 composite shows excellent photoelectrochemical activity under visible-light illumination compared with pure anatase TiO 2 nanoparticles and pure FeC4Pc. After adding HQ, the photocurrent of the FeC 4 Pc@TiO 2 -modified indium tin oxide electrode (FeC 4 Pc@TiO 2 /ITO) was significantly enhanced, which was attributed to the life improvement of the electron-hole pairs. The sensor was developed based on the enhanced photocurrent response signal. The photocurrent response signal is linear with the concentration of HQ ranging from 0.2 μM to 78 μM, with a detection limit of 0.078 μM (S/N=3) under the optimal conditions. The PEC sensor showed high sensitivity, low cost, and wide linearity range and was successfully employed in the analysis of real water samples, with recoveries between 99.7%-101.7%.

Transmission line insulators are susceptible to algae contamination in humid environments, resulting in decreased surface hydrophobicity and deterioration of insulation performance, which in turn leads to electrical accidents such as leakage current and flashover
\. To overcome this problem, in this study, stearic acid was used to modify the surface of nano-TiO 2 , and composite coatings with different ratios were prepared. The photocatalytic algae inhibition performance and electrical insulation performance of the coating were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, contact angle, resistivity, and dielectric loss tests. The results showed that the stearic acid modification significantly improved the dispersibility and hydrophobicity of TiO 2 , among which the sample with a mass ratio of 1:5 (TWC 1 ) had the best performance. After 96 h of algae coverage, the contact angle of TWC 1 decreased by only 30.96%, and the algal cell concentration increased by only about 15%. The surface resistivity decreased by 31.76%, and the dry and wet flashover voltages decreased by 11.13% and 22.68%, respectively, which were better than those of glass and unmodified samples. This composite coating exhibits excellent performance in both photocatalytic algae inhibition and improvement of electrical properties, providing a feasible approach for algae inhibition on transmission line insulators.

Various factors affect the sedimentation behavior of nanotitanium dioxide (n-TiO 2 ) in water. Accordingly, this study aimed to select the dominating factor. An index of sedimentation efficiency related to n-TiO 2 concentration was applied to precisely describe the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior. Ionic strength (IS), natural organic matter (NOM) content, and pH were evaluated in sedimentation experiments. An orthogonal experimental design was used to sequence the affecting ability of these factors. Furthermore, simulative sedimentation experiments were performed. The n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior was only affected by pH and NOM content at low levels of IS. Moreover, divalent cations can efficiently influence the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior compared with monovalent cations at fixed IS. Seven different environmental water samples were also used to investigate the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior in aquatic environments. Results confirmed that IS, in which divalent cations may play an important role, was the dominating factor influencing the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior in aquatic environments.

Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles interact with organic–inorganic pollutants in the environment, and these interactions affect their environmental behavior. The mechanisms of the interaction between TiO 2 and organic–inorganic pollutants on the surface of clay minerals are still unclear. In this work, isotherm adsorption was studied to explore the interactions between Cd 2+ /tetracycline (TC), TiO 2 nanoparticles, and a zeolite (Zeo). SEM, FT-IR, and XPS were also used to reveal the interaction mechanism between organic–inorganic pollutants and TiO 2 on their stability and mobility in the environment. Compared to the single systems, the adsorption of Cd 2+ and TiO 2 in the Cd + TiO 2 composite system decreased by 3.43% and 9.90%, respectively; the TC and TiO 2 adsorption in the TC + TiO 2 composite system decreased by 14.39% and 45.47%, respectively. The antagonism between Cd 2+ and TiO 2 was due to Cd 2+ and TiO 2 competing for the electrostatic attraction (-OH) and hydrogen bonding sites (Si–O), and TC and TiO 2 competing for the hydrogen bonding sites (-OH and C = O) on Zeo. The presence of TiO 2 will increase the mobility of Cd 2+ and TC on a clay surface, and this effect is more significant for organic pollutants TC. Compared with Cd 2+ , TC has a more significant boosting impact on the TiO 2 mobility.

Degradation of organic pollutants, especially organic dyes and antibiotics, by semiconductor photocatalysts is an efficient strategy for wastewater treatment. TiO2nanomaterials are considered to be promising photocatalysts due to their high chemical stability, high efficiency and availability. Anatase TiO2generally has superior photocatalytic activity to the rutile phase. However, the anatase phase can be irreversibly transformed to rutile phase when calcined at an elevated temperature. Methods to improve the stability of anatase are especially important for the TiO2gas sensors working at high temperatures. The addition of strong acids can effectively suppress this transformation process. However, these strong acids are relatively expensive, corrosive and environmentally unfriendly. Herein, oxalic acid (OA) as a natural acid was used to control the hydrolysis process of tetrabutyl titanate (TBOT), leading to controllable crystalline phase transformation and reduced crystalline size of TiO2on the nanoscale. What is more, the photocatalytic degradation performances were enhanced continuously when the molar ratio of OA to TBOT increased. The degradation reaction rate constants of CT650-R25 were about 10 times that of CT650-R0. The mechanism study shows that the enhanced photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the improved dispersibility, increased specific surface area and reduced recombination rates of photo-induced charge carriers and decreased energy bands as the concentration of OA increased. Thus, this work provides a simple, mild and effective method for controlling the crystalline forms of nano-TiO2with enhanced photocatalytic performance towards waste water treatment.Keywords:TiO2;photocatalyst;inhibitor;phase transformation

In terms of the traditional thermal transformation of TiO2 from protonic titanate, herein, we study the impact of the fabrication method of protonic titanate on photocatalytic hydrogen evolution of the derived TiO2 nanostructure. Present synthesis of TiO2 nanostructures involves the structure engineering of protonic titanate with four different synthesis strategies and a subsequent calcination process for conversion of TiO2 nanoflakes (hollow structure), nanorods, nanowires, and nanoflowers. Indeed, the TiO2 nanoflakes exhibit the highest H2 evolution rate of 3.63 mmol·g–1·h–1 among the four different TiO2 photocatalysts. With involvement of 3 wt % Pt, the corresponding H2 production rate of the TiO2 nanoflakes increases to 22.55 mmol·g–1·h–1, which is 3.18, 5.68, and 2.01 times higher than that of nanorods, nanowires, and nanoflowers, respectively. The band structure and photo/electrochemical analysis results propose that the negative conduction band position, fast photoinduced charge carrier separation, and abundant active sites contribute to excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution upon the TiO2 nanoflakes.
