A hydrogel-based photocatalyst is synthesized by the construction of a hydrogel skeleton using common monomers and subsequent in situ generation of Zn–Cu–S photocatalyst particles. The photocatalytic degradation performance of the hydrogel-based photocatalyst is systematically studied, and the photocatalyst exhibits good removal ability for eosin Y. The composite photocatalyst shows high efficiency at low loading, with a removal rate of up to >98% in 3 hours under sunlight irradiation, without the need for a preliminary dark adsorption process. High removal efficiency was observed, remaining above 95% even after 10 recycling runs, demonstrating the excellent stability of the composite photocatalyst. We thus provide a facile method to construct hydrogel-based photocatalysts that show high application potential in the photocatalytic removal of eosin Y.

The band gap is one of the significant parameters for nonlinear optical (NLO) materials, which is the key factor in their application band in laser technology. This study reports the synthesis of two rare-earth selenite NLO crystals, namely, RE(HSeO3)(SeO3)(H2O)·(H2O) (RE = Y, Gd), utilizing the hydrothermal technique. The two compounds are isostructural, and both belong to the orthorhombic chiral space group of P212121 and possess three-dimensional structures consisting of two-dimensional rare-earth selenite layers connected by hydrogen bonds (O–H··O). These two compounds exhibit a moderate second harmonic generation intensity of 0.5/0.8 × KDP and wide energy band gaps reaching 4.8 eV. Comprehensive density functional theory analyses based on first-principles were carried out to unravel the relationship between the structural and corresponding properties. This work provides an approach for band gap enlargement in rare-earth selenite systems and is beneficial to the design of future NLO materials.

The sluggish bidirectional conversion rate between Li 2 S n (2 ≤ n ≤ 4) and Li 2 S, coupled with the uncontrolled deposition of Li 2 S, significantly impedes the realization of high-performance lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs). In this study, a metal–organic framework was employed as a precursor for the synthesis of a CoO x –CeO 2− y /C (0 < x < 3/2, 0 < y < 1/2) heterojunction via pyrolysis, which was subsequently introduced onto the cathode side of the polypropylene (PP) separator in LSBs. The modification of CoO x –CeO 2− y /C enhances the kinetics of converting of Li 2 S n to Li 2 S during the discharge process. The Tafel slope for the Li 2 S deposition reaction is reduced to 52.1 mV/dec, representing a 56.6% decrease compared to LSBs with bare PP separator. Conversely, during the charging process, the modification lowers the energy barrier for the Li 2 S decomposition reaction, with the activation energy reduced to 6.12 kJ/mol, indicating a 70.3% decrease relative to LSBs with PP separator only. Consequently, more Li 2 S is promoted to undergo decomposition. The CoO x –CeO 2− y /C heterojunction facilitates uniform deposition of Li 2 S, featuring fine particles and a uniform distribution, after brief potentiostatic charging for decomposition, thereby effectively mitigating the deactivation of sulfur species. Thanks to the enhanced bidirectional conversion of lithium polysulfides (LiPS) facilitated by the CoO x –CeO 2− y /C modification layer, the (−)Li|CoO x –CeO 2− y /C@PP|S(+) coin cell maintains a Coulombic efficiency of 90.4% after 500 cycles at a current density of 1 C, exhibiting a low capacity-decay rate of only 0.081% per cycle, thereby demonstrating excellent long-cycle stability.

The synthesis of multielement composite oxide nanomaterials containing Ce, Zr, Y, and Yb was investigated using a micro confined jet mixer reactor operated in continuous mode under supercritical water conditions. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized using ICP-AES, SEM-EDS, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, and TEM. All samples exhibited a uniform particle shape and a narrow particle size distribution. An analysis of the d-spacing results using selected electron area diffraction (SAED) patterns confirmed the production of cubic-phase crystals. A BET test was employed to determine the specific surface area of the prepared nanoparticles. OSC and TPR techniques were utilized to characterize the oxygen storage capacity and reduction performance of the obtained samples, with an analysis conducted to determine how the different proportions of elements affected the performance of multielement mixed oxides. The ionic conductivity of multielement composite oxide was measured using alternating current impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the impact of Y, Ce, and Yb on the electrolyte material’s ionic conductivity was analyzed. Keywords:confined jet mixer;multielement composite oxide;continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis;oxygen storage capacity;ionic conductivity

The inherent diffusion constraints imposed by narrow micropores and elongated channels in Y zeolites severely limit jet fuel selectivity during Fischer-Tropsch wax hydrocracking. Advanced supports were synthesized via seed-directed crystallization (nano-Y-0P zeolite) and PDDA (polydiallydimethyl ammonium chloride)-mediated assembly (hierarchical nano-Y-xP zeolites, x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9). This dual-strategy synergistically addresses diffusion constraints in conventional Y-zeolite by optimizing nano structure of active sites and improving interfacial mass transfer (i.e., nano-crystal size and hierarchical porosity). Intelligent Gravimetric Analysis (IGA) directly validates hierarchical porosity and nanocrystalline advantages. Y-0.6P zeolite with optimal mesoporosity (0.75 cm 3 /g vs. 0.25 cm 3 /g in conventional Y-zeolite) and minimal crystallite size (131 nm vs. 1258 nm in conventional Y-zeolite) achieves intrinsic diffusion enhancement—the 5.36-fold higher diffusion rate than conventional S-Y zeolite. Zeolite crystallite size and hierarchical porosity critically govern metal–acid functionality balance by modulating acid site density (589.7 μmol/g vs. 812.4 μmol/g in conventional Y zeolite) and optimizing metal dispersion (40.5 %, vs. 18.26 % in conventional Y-zeolite). Pt/(Y-0.6P+ASA) catalyst achieves peak performance with 35.04 % C 9 –C 17 yield and 47.35 % selectivity in n-docosane hydrocracking. Notably, Fischer-Tropsch wax hydrocracking yields 26.83 % jet fuel (49.88 % selectivity) with ideal bell-shaped distribution. This work demonstrates Y-0.6P-supported catalyst has industrial potential for aviation fuel production from Fischer-Tropsch wax upgrading.

The study investigated the hydrothermal corrosion behavior of Y 2 O 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 (YAS) and CaO-Y 2 O 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 (CYAS) glass interlayers in SiC/SiC composite joints under simulated pressurized water reactor (PWR) conditions and evaluated their effects on mechanical performance. The corrosion rate of the YAS joint was ∼2.7 mg/(cm 2 ·day), primarily due to the rapid dissolution of SiO 2 , which triggered pitting corrosion and void formation. While the Y 2 Si 2 O 7 exhibited good stability, degradation of the glass network caused the hydrolysis of Al species, forming stable AlO(OH) corrosion products. These processes severely damaged the structural integrity, reducing shear strength to ∼6 ± 2 MPa after 15 days, making it unsuitable for application. In contrast, the CYAS joint showed superior corrosion resistance, with a corrosion rate of ∼0.16 mg/(cm 2 ·day), only 2.2% of the YAS joint. The CYAS joint maintained structural integrity and interface bonding. During corrosion, Y 2 Si 2 O 7 crystals formed, while a layer of corrosion intermediates covered and eventually transformed into AlO(OH) particles. After 25 days, shear strength remained at 26 ± 2 MPa, still satisfying service requirements. The hydrothermal corrosion mechanism of YAS-based glasses basically involved the breakdown of the glass network and formation of stable products, including Y 2 Si 2 O 7 and AlO(OH).

In this work, we synthesized a novel type of Y-shaped nanomicelles via an esterification reaction, with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) as the hydrophilic group and branched long chain carboxylic acids as the hydrophobic groups. These ester compounds can self-assemble into nanomicelles in aqueous solution, simultaneously serving as a chiral selector and pseudostationary phase in capillary electrophoresis (CE) for enantioseparation. The Y-shaped nanomicelles were systematically characterized using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), particle size analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), foaming effect and Tyndall effect. Due to the presence of branched chains, the hydrophobic chains of the Y-shaped nanomicelles exhibited increased hydrophobicity, and the hydrophobic interaction between the long chains in the cores was also enhanced. As a result, the stability of the Y-shaped nanomicelles was higher, reducing their tendency to dissociate. They also demonstrated a superior drug loading capability, thereby more effectively serving as a pseudostationary phase. Compared to the single γ-CD system and conventional nanomicelles system, the separation of nine model drugs in the Y-shaped nanomicelles system was significantly improved. We used racemic promethazine as a model drug and studied the drug loading of native γ-CD, conventional nanomicelles, and Y-shaped nanomicelles through high performance liquid chromatography. Additionally, the encapsulation effect was investigated using several methods such as particle size analysis, TEM, NMR, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. These results confirmed a higher distribution of enantiomers in the Y-shaped nanomicelles. This study demonstrates the superiority of Y-shaped nanomicelles in CE for enantioseparation and represents an important step toward the development of novel chiral recognition materials.

Conventional photosensitive materials such as TiO2 suffer from restricted absorption in the ultraviolet region, fast recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, and a lack of functional groups for biocoupling, which hinder their application in photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensing. Herein, a new coordination polymer (CP) based on Cu(I), chloridion, and 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (MBA) has been designed and synthesized (called CuClx(MBA)y). The prepared p-type CuClx(MBA)y exhibits visible-light absorption due to its narrow optical band gap (2.59 eV), and its proper band edge position enables it to form a p–n junction with TiO2. Through layer-by-layer assembling, the photocurrent intensity of the CuClx(MBA)y/TiO2/FTO composite photoelectrode was 3.7-fold higher than that of a TiO2/FTO electrode and 35-fold higher than a CuClx(MBA)y/FTO electrode. The potential enhancement mechanism was discussed, which lies in the contributions of CuClx(MBA)y in enhancing absorption in the visible-light region and boosting the separation of electron–hole pairs of TiO2 by the p–n junction. Furthermore, CuClx(MBA)y nanosheets can realize bioconjugation directly, thanks to its abundant carboxyl groups. The CuClx(MBA)y/TiO2/FTO composite photoelectrodes were applied to develop a sensitive PEC biosensor for microRNA-21 (model target). By subtly exploiting the energy transfer between CuClx(MBA)y and Au nanoparticles (AuNPs), AuNPs served as effective quenchers. In the presence of the target, AuNP-labeled sDNA1 connected to the electrode surface, and thus, a decreased photocurrent was obtained. The proposed biosensor has a low detection limit of 0.29 fM (S/N = 3), good selectivity, and reproducibility. The proposed system was applied to monitor microRNA in cancer cells with satisfying results.

In recent years, lots of efforts have been applied to improve the initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), among which prelithiation is considered to be one of the most promising schemes. Here we report a modified Li x Si with high lithium reserves and great environmental adaptability as the prelithiation reagent, which can make up for the capacity loss of the negative electrode in the first cycle. Through the chemical reaction between aluminum isopropoxide and Li x Si, a protective layer consisting of Li x Al y SiO z /Li 2 O is formed on the surface of Li x Si particles. This synthesized material provides a new idea for the actual industrial production of prelithiation.

The effects of Y₂O₃–LiF sintering additives on the microstructure, thermal conductivity, flexural strength, and dielectric properties of AlN-based ceramics were systematically investigated. Six different compositions were prepared via ball milling, hot-press sintering, and annealing. XRD and Rietveld refinement confirmed a hexagonal structure for all samples, with changes in the Al–N bond length along the C-axis. SEM analysis revealed that the Y₂O₃–LiF additives modified the morphology of the secondary phase while maintaining a high bulk density. Moreover, annealing resulted in grain boundary purification. As LiF content increased, the second-phase morphology evolved from oval to strip-like, and annealing reduced this phase, improving overall performance. Raman spectroscopy indicated lattice expansion and a blue shift with increasing LiF content. Dielectric analysis of the 2 wt% LiF–Y₂O₃ sample revealed a dielectric constant of 8.56, a dissipation factor of 2.1 × 10⁻⁴, and a high activation energy of 1.38 eV.

Despite tremendous progress in macromolecular self-assembly, the influence of topology and hydrolysis on hierarchical self-assembly has been scarcely revealed. This study aims at the design of toothbrush-like copolymers with linear and cyclic backbones to reveal multi-tunable properties, and the introduction of pH/oxidation-responsive and hydrolyzable Y junctions endows the copolymers with unique hydrolysis-induced topological and morphological transformations. The cyclization of the polymer backbone can lead to distinct bulk and solution properties such as chain relaxation, solution viscosity and self-assembly, revealing the crucial role of cyclic architecture. Upon pH and oxidation stimuli, at least eight kinds of distinct nanostructures involving spheres, vesicles, disks and sea urchins are achieved by self-assembly. Hydrolysis-induced (co)assembly dependent on topology, pH and hydrolysis time offers programmable formation of a diversity of nanostructures. Both toothbrushes can self-assemble into unilamellar vesicles, while the vesicles bearing cyclic toothbrushes are readily converted into double-lamellar vesicles upon heating, sonication and short-time pH stimulus. Our research can provide new insight into topology-related formation and transition processes of polymer nanoparticles. The success of this study paves the way for macromolecular engineering towards promising shape-dependent properties and applications.

Copper-based sorbents for adsorption desulfurization have attracted significant interest owing to their potential for high sulfur adsorption capacities. However, their practical application has been severely impeded by the ambiguous active-site structures and, more critically, a drastic loss of capacity in the presence of competing aromatic compounds. This performance bottleneck stems from the lack of electronic specificity in conventional Cu sites to differentiate thiophene from benzene, which leads to unselective adsorption. Herein, we address these challenges by constructing a well-defined single-atom sorbent through a one-pot seeding strategy that precisely anchors Cu 1 O pairs in the supercages of hollow Y zeolite, forming a stable Cu 1 -O 4 -Al 2 bridging configuration. Desulfurization experiments performed using pure benzene as the solvent show that the hollow Cu@Y zeolite achieved a record-breaking sulfur breakthrough capacity of 0.99 mmol/g with 12-fold improvement over conventional Cu Y zeolite, representing state-of-the-art performance among reported copper-based sorbents even under such strongly competitive conditions. After five regeneration cycles, the sorbent still maintained a high adsorption capacity. This Cu 1 -O 4 -Al 2 structure induces a tailored electronic environment where the Cu center becomes highly electron-deficient due to significant charge transfer (1.71|e|) to framework oxygen atoms. As a result, the Cu 1 -O 4 site strongly adsorbs thiophene (−106.8 kJ/mol) via σ-coordination in an η 1 (C) mode (Cu C distance: 2.17 Å), further stabilized by a secondary interaction between the sulfur atom and a framework oxygen (S O distance: 3.02 Å), resulting in a unique “bidentate anchoring” adsorption configuration. Crucially, the highly electron-deficient nature of the Cu centers prevents effective π-complexation with benzene due to insufficient back-donation capability, thereby suppressing competitive aromatic adsorption through electronic repulsion. In situ Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy directly captured the unique vibrational fingerprint of thiophene undergoing σ-coordination at the Cu 1 -O 4 sites, alongside evidence of the promotion of oligomerization and C 4 species formation. This work not only deciphers the nature of high-performance Cu sites but also establishes an electronic-structure-centered design principle for sorbents targeting deep desulfurization in aromatic-rich environments.
