The Garnet-type solid electrolyte Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) showing high ionic conductivity and a wide electrochemical potential window is considered as one of the most promising candidates for solid-state batteries. Among various doping derivatives, the Al- and Ga-doped LLZO electrolytes are intensively studied because of their ability to enhance the stability of the cubic structure and to promote good sinter ability as well. Despite showing great similarities in site preference and sintering behavior, the Al and Ga doping derivatives differ by 1 order of magnitude in total ionic conductivity. Therefore, a comparative study on the doping characteristics of Al and Ga with respect to ionic conductivity and sintering behavior is necessary. Herein, we simultaneously introduced Al and Ga into Li sites (AlxGa0.25–x-LLZO) to study their influences on the microstructure and electrochemical properties of LLZO. The results show that Ga doping enables a higher conductivity than Al doping and largely promotes sinter ability at the same time. Compared to Al single doping (Al0.25), Ga-contained compositions (x < 0.25) show significant grain growth. Moreover, a slight inclusion of Ga (Al0.20Ga0.05) not only modifies the sintering behavior that results in a microstructure transition from fine grains of Al0.25 (5–20 μm) to abnormally large grains (several hundred micrometers) but also greatly enhances the conductivity, yielding a value that is 3 times higher. However, further increases in Ga ratio in AlxGa0.25–x results in marginal increases in conductivity. The total conductivity reaches a maximum of 1.19 × 10–3 S cm–1 for Ga single doping (Ga0.25) at room temperature. In addition, Al0.25 also shows fast ion conducting behavior along the grain boundaries with a conductivity of 8.30 × 10–4 S cm–1. Consequently, this study sheds lights on the different doping characteristics between Al and Ga, providing guidance for fine composition engineering of these two promising dopants.

To address the issues of insufficient structural stability, poor durability and performance degradation in conventional photothermal anti-icing coatings, a laser etching–electrodeposition synergistic strategy was proposed to fabricate an Al-Myristate@CNTs superhydrophobic photothermal anti-icing coating. First, microporous array structures were constructed on the aluminum substrate surface via laser etching to enhance interfacial mechanical interlocking and provide stable structural support. Subsequently, carbon nanotubes were uniformly incorporated into the micro/nano hierarchical structures through electrochemical deposition, enabling synergistic enhancement of surface wettability, photothermal performance and structural stability. The effects of hydrochloric acid etching conditions, laser scanning speed and carbon nanotubes content on the surface morphology, wettability and multifunctional performance of the coating were systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that the optimized coating exhibited excellent comprehensive performance, with a water contact angle of 157.6° and an abrasion resistance distance of up to 1000 cm, indicating outstanding superhydrophobic stability and mechanical durability. Under 1 sun irradiation, the surface temperature of the coating rapidly increased to 51.6 °C, demonstrating its efficient photothermal conversion capability. Moreover, in a −15 °C environment, the coating achieved an icing delay time of 438 s and reduced the deicing time to 352 s, indicating remarkable anti-icing and photothermal deicing performance. Mechanistic analysis revealed that the incorporation of an appropriate amount of carbon nanotubes facilitated the formation of a uniform and stable hierarchical micro/nanostructure, which enhanced air-pocket stability, solar absorption, and structural integrity, thereby synergistically improving the superhydrophobicity, photothermal performance and long-term durability of the coating. This work provides a novel strategy for the design and fabrication of highly stable multifunctional photothermal anti-icing coatings and offers important guidance for their potential applications in aerospace, energy infrastructure, and transportation systems. Background Chiral metal-organic cages (CMOCs) represent a novel class of porous materials featuring tunable chiral cavities and distinctive chiral microenvironments, endowing them with remarkable advantages in enantiomeric separation. However, the reported CMOCs are mostly constructed with noble or transition metal ions, limiting their prospects in energy sustainability and green development. Furthermore, although existing CMOCs exhibit outstanding separation performance, their enantioseparation ability and application scope are still restricted. Therefore, developing novel CMOC materials that combine low cost and outstanding chiral recognition performance for chromatographic applications is of great significance. Results Herein, a chiral Al-based CMOC (Al-CMOC) was fabricated and utilized as a novel stationary phase for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of diverse organic compounds, including n-alkanes, alkylbenzenes, n-alcohols, isomers, as well as chiral analytes involving alcohols, esters, ethers, and arenes. The Al-CMOC column exhibits high column efficiency (3100 plates·m −1 for n-dodecane) and achieves a maximum resolution of 9.71 for ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate. The enantioseparation performance of the Al-CMOC column was compared with that of commercially available β -DEX 120 column and the previously reported Fe 4 II L 4 column, and the results demonstrated that the three columns exhibit favorable complementarity. In addition, the reproducibility studies revealed that the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of peak area and retention time were below 1.0% for ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate and nitrotoluene, demonstrating the exceptional stability of the Al-CMOC column. Significance Al-based CMOCs constructed from aluminum featuring high crustal abundance, low biotoxicity, and low cost, overcome the limitations of conventional CMOC materials, which largely rely on precious and transition metal centers. Moreover, the as-prepared Al-CMOC serves as a promising chiral separation medium, which not only broadens the application scope of CMOCs in chromatographic analysis, but also provides a feasible strategy for developing advanced gas chromatographic chiral stationary phases.

Al₂O₃ nanofiber aerogels are widely used in high-temperature thermal insulation owing to their excellent thermal stability. However, the traditional sol-gel method for preparing such aerogels suffers from high brittleness. Consequently, the development of lightweight and flexible Al₂O₃ nanofiber aerogels via electrospinning technology has become a current research focus. Traditional single-needle electrospinning is limited by low nanofiber membrane productivity, which restricts the preparation efficiency and practical application of aerogels. In this study, a novel linear narrow-slit needleless spinneret was developed using needleless electrospinning technology, combined with COMSOL Multiphysics finite element simulation software. Using this spinneret, wide-width Al₂O₃/polyvinyl butyral (PVB) precursor composite nanofibers were efficiently fabricated, thereby enabling the preparation of Al₂O₃ nanofiber aerogels with outstanding thermal insulation performance. The microstructure, crystal phase, functional groups, and thermal insulation properties of Al₂O₃ nanofiber membranes prepared at different calcination temperatures were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), as well as thermal conductivity and insulation performance tests. The Al₂O₃ fibers prepared using this nozzle exhibit the lowest thermal conductivity after calcination at 700 °C, demonstrating excellent thermal insulation performance. The aerogel fabricated from these Al₂O₃ nanofibers possesses lightweight, flexible, and high-temperature-resistant characteristics: with a bulk density of only 27 mg/cm 3 and a thermal conductivity of 0.0386 W/(m·K), the aerogel maintained a surface temperature between 130 °C and 150 °C when heated on a 350 °C hot stage for 180 s. This study provides a novel approach for the efficient preparation of functional nanofiber materials, while also offering experimental references for the research and development of high-temperature thermal insulation Al₂O₃ nanofiber aerogels.

Polonium was a highly toxic and radioactive nuclide commonly detected in wastewater from spent fuel reprocessing and lead‑bismuth-cooled reactor systems, making its removal essential for nuclear safety. In this work, lanthanum-modified magnesium‑aluminum layered double oxide (La-MgAl-LDO) was prepared by doping La(III) in Mg-Al layered double oxide (Mg-Al-LDO). Additionally, tellurium, which has similar chemical properties, was used as a substitute for polonium to investigate the adsorption performance. Under the optimized conditions (pH = 6, m/V = 0.2 g/L, and C 0 = 20 mg/L), La-MgAl-LDO achieved a maximum removal efficiency of 99% for tellurite. The adsorption of Te(IV) onto La-MgAl-LDO followed the pseudo-second-order and Freundlich models, indicating that the adsorption process was characterized by multilayer chemical adsorption. The Te(IV) adsorption mechanisms mainly include co-precipitation and surface complexation. In addition, the study confirmed that La 3+ reacted with Te(IV) to form a stable solid precipitate (La 2 Te 6 O 15 ), which played a crucial role in the removal of Te(IV) from aqueous solution.

The development of advanced high-energy-density film hosts for next-generationdevices or chips requires integrating multifunctional, eco-friendly layers to overcome challengessuch as thermal energy conversion loss from stored chemical energy and ensuring informationsecurity. Herein, we introduce a novel approach combining electrophoretic assembly, surfacemodification, and in-situ heat-gas treatment to fabricate a smart Al-based metastable intermolecularcomposite (MIC). This composite features a carbon-based eco-friendly coating, endowing it withmultifunctional, heat-responsive, and wettability-switchable properties. The functionalized layerenhances waterproofing and provides robust information protection through secure entry andencryption mechanisms. The resulting MIC demonstrates remarkable stability in both crystalstructure and microstructure, exhibiting superior anti-wettability with a water contact angle of~165°, and shows excellent performance in immersion, aging, and self-cleaning tests. It alsodemonstrates outstanding energy conversion efficiency, effectively transforming stored chemicalenergy into thermal energy. Furthermore, key information was successfully encoded onto the nano-Al MIC substrate using a thermosolvent writing technique. Encryption is achieved via stimulationwith either hot solvent or hot gas. Perovskite oxide photoanodes are attractive for alkaline water oxidation but are commonly limited by interfacial recombination and sluggish charge transfer. Here we enhance anisotropic SrTiO3(STO) photoelectrodes via Al doping by simple yet effective one-step hydrothermal method and identify an optimal composition at 4% Al. In 0.1 M NaOH (pH 13) under simulated AM 1.5G illumination, 4% Al:STO exhibits 2 times enhancement in photocurrent density and 80% increase in electrochemically active surface area compared with the pristine SrTiO3, as evidenced by the reduced charge-transfer resistance and enlarged light–dark photocurrent gap. together with a markedly reduced interfacial impedance, indicating accelerated charge extraction and transfer. Band-structure analysis shows a positive shift in flat-band potential and slight band-gap narrowing after Al doping, providing more favorable carrier energetics. Steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence further demonstrate strong PL quenching and a prolonged carrier lifetime for 4% Al:STO. ECSA analysis suggests increased electrochemically accessible surface sites at the optimal doping level. Overall, moderate Al doping synergistically tunes defects, band energetics, and interfacial kinetics to improve STO photoanodes for solar water splitting.

The electrochemical Al metal extraction in the room-temperature electrolyte is considered a green and sustainable approach, where temperature serves as a critical parameter that significantly influences the process. This study systematically investigates effects of the temperature on the thermal behavior of AlCl 3 - N -methylformamide (NMF) system and corresponding electrochemical process. Firstly, the thermogravimetric analysis and the in-situ temperature-rising Raman spectroscopy are combined to reveal the thermal behavior of AlCl 3 -NMF system. The results show that AlCl 2 NMF 2 + fractures to produce NMF and AlCl 3 at 360 K, while NMF decomposes at 360 K and AlCl 3 volatilizes at 440 K. Secondly, cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry illustrate that increasing temperature enhances the limiting diffusion current density of Al(III) and reduces the electro-crystallization nucleation induction time. Thirdly, XRD, SEM and non-contact optical microscope analyses indicate that the crystal orientation, the grain size, the micro-morphology, the surface roughness and the thickness of Al coatings electrodeposited in AlCl 3 -NMF system change with the rising temperature. The changes are related to the competition for the nucleation-growth of Al grains and the thermal stability of AlCl 3 -NMF system. Al coatings electrodeposited at 333 K possess the grain size of 24.8 nm, the thickness of 12.6 ± 0.5 μm and the absolute value of average roughness of 6.1 μm.

In this study, the polysulfide-intercalated Mg/Al hydrotalcite (Mg/Al-S 2 -LDH) with nanometer scale was prepared by a facile intercalation reaction to remove uranyl (VI) from aqueous solution. The as-synthesized adsorbents were characterized by a variety of techniques such as XRD, SEM, EDS, FTIR, laser particle size analyzer and XPS. Results indicated that the alkali content (governed by the HMT/Al molar ratio parameter f) significantly influenced the particle size, rather than the morphology, of the Mg/Al hydrotalcite. The particle size decreased from 9.37 μm to 0.91 μm with increasing f value. Batch experiment results indicated that Mg/Al-S 2 -LDH adsorbent prepared at f = 3 exhibited the excellent removal performance for uranyl (VI) with the removal rate approaching 100% and a maximum adsorption capacity of 343.64 mg·g −1 . The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption thermodynamics conformed to Langmuir isotherm adsorption model, indicating that the adsorption process was primarily chemical adsorption and monolayer adsorption. The adsorption mechanism revealed that uranyl (VI) ions were removed by the UO 2 2+ forms inner-sphere complexes with interlayer S 2 2− groups and the formation of an amorphous UO 2 S 2 -like phase on the surface. In addition, results from competitive adsorption suggested that Mg/Al-S 2 -LDH adsorbent processed excellent affinity to uranyl (VI) in the co-exist ions of Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , which revealed a potential application prospect in the treatment of U(VI)-contaminated wastewater.

Due to the low hydration activity of steel slag, its mechanical properties are insufficient, which limits its strategic application in steel slag based cementitious composite. In this study, the promoting effect of calcined layered double hydroxide (CLDH) on the hydration process, mechanical properties, and microstructure of high-volume steel slag cementitious materials was systematically investigated. The results showed that the addition of CLDH significantly optimized the material’s performance. When the mass fraction of steel slag was 70 wt% and the CLDH dosage was 2.0 wt%, the 7-day compressive strength reached 42.5 MPa, indicating an increase of 23.9% compared with the control group. Microscopic characterization suggested that CLDH slightly enhanced the hydration reaction of steel slag and increased the generation of hydration products through the nucleation effect. The addition of CLDH demonstrated a change in the composition of C-(A)-S-H to a higher Al/Ca ratio. Meanwhile, the lamellar structure of CLDH effectively filled the pores and promoted the densification of the matrix. This research provides valuable insights for the high-value utilization of steel slag and the design of high-performance cementitious materials.

Vat photopolymerization (VPP) has recently been applied to fabricate silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) ceramics. To overcome limitations in Si 3 N 4 slurry curing performance, a multi-functional modification strategy utilizing the metal-organic framework MIL-53(Al) was proposed. The introduction of MIL-53(Al) simultaneously affects slurry photocuring performance and ceramic microstructural regulation. MIL-53(Al) serves as a fluorescent active filler acting as an in situ photon source under ultraviolet irradiation, thereby enhancing the curing depth by an average of 17.5 µm. During the debinding process, the decomposition of MIL-53(Al) leaves a pore structure and aluminum oxide that can assist sintering, facilitating phase transformation and forming a well-interlocked β-Si 3 N 4 microstructure. The sintered Si 3 N 4 ceramic exhibited a flexural strength of 269.2 ± 12.6 MPa, and a fracture toughness of 3.54 ± 0.21 MPa·m 1/2 at a porosity of 23.9%. This study demonstrates the multi-functional role of MOF-based additives for both enhancing slurry printability and tailoring ceramic microstructure in fabrication of porous Si 3 N 4 ceramics via VPP.

As a vital industrial feedstock, carbon monoxide (CO) is widely employed in pharmaceutical, electronic and fine chemical synthesis, yet its efficient production in high purity remains challenging. Here we report a solar-driven route to high-purity CO from formic acid using a nonmetallic plasmonic photocatalyst based on aluminum-doped tungsten oxide (Al-W 18 O 49 ). Plasmon-derived hot electrons drive the cleavage of C-H in adsorbed formic acid, while a concomitant photothermal effect markedly accelerates the overall kinetics. This synergistic mechanism lowers the apparent activation energy of HCOOH dehydration to 10.5 kJ mol −1 , substantially below its thermocatalytic barrier of 80.6 kJ mol −1 , and enables a CO production rate of 1.88 mol g −1 h −1 under 1 W cm −2 irradiation. A continuous-flow reactor operated stably for 350 hours, delivering CO at a maximum rate of 2000 L m −2 h −1 under concentrated sunlight. This work develops a practical photocatalytic system for the sustainable production of high-purity CO.
