Liu Jie,Yu Haomiao,Wang Deqi,Sun Sensen,Li Fengsheng

In order to improve the mechanical and combustion properties of composite solid propellant, the CuO@AP with core–shell structure was prepared by solvent–nonsolvent recrystallization method, and it was applied to AP/HTPB composite solid propellant. The thermal decomposition properties, sensitivity properties and tensile properties of CuO@AP propellant were studied and compared with ultrafine AP propellant, ultrafine spherical AP propellant and the mixture of CuO and AP (CuO/AP) propellant. The results show that the E a of ultrafine spherical AP propellant is 8.16% lower than that of ultrafine AP propellant with the same particle size, and the rate constant increases by 13.64%; the E a of the CuO@AP propellant is 23.63% lower than that of CuO/AP propellant with ultrafine AP of the same particle size, and the rate constant increases by 172.7%. What’s more, the catalytic effect of CuO@AP is obviously better than that of CuO/AP. The impact sensitivity of ultrafine spherical AP propellant is 29.61% lower than that of ultrafine AP propellant with the same particle size, and the ε b is increased by 51.35%. The impact sensitivity of the CuO@AP propellant is 25.38% lower than that of CuO/AP propellant with ultrafine AP of the same particle size, and the ε b is increased by 63.76%. The above shows that the CuO@AP composite particles with core–shell structure have potential application prospects in AP/HTPB propellant.

A new catalyst, copper oxide/graphene oxide–diatomaceous earth (CuO/GO-DE), was prepared by the ultrasonic impregnation method. The optimal conditions for catalyst preparation were explored, and its structure and morphology were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, Raman and XPS. By taking ciprofloxacin as the target pollutant, the performance and reusability of CuO/GO-DE to degrade antibiotic wastewater was evaluated, and the optimal operating conditions were obtained. The main oxidizing substances in the catalytic system under different pH conditions were analyzed, as well as the synergistic catalytic oxidation mechanism. The intermediate products of ciprofloxacin degradation were identified by LC-MS, and the possible degradation process of ciprofloxacin was proposed. Keywords:diatomaceous earth;graphene oxide;copper oxide;ciprofloxacin;catalytic mechanism

The Ultrahigh Adsorption Capacity and Excellent Photocatalytic Degradation Activity of Mesoporous CuO with Novel Architecture

Jing Ni,Jianfei Lei,Zhaowu Wang,Lanlan Huang,Hang Zhu,Hai Liu,Fuqiang Hu,Ting Qu,Huiyu Yang,Haiyang Yang,Chunli Gong

In this paper, mesoporous CuO with a novel architecture was synthesized through a conventional hydrothermal approach followed by a facile sintering procedure. HR-TEM analysis found that mesoporous CuO with an interconnected pore structure has exposed high-energy crystal planes of (002) and (200). Theoretical calculations indicated that the high-energy crystal planes have superior adsorption capacity for H+ions, which is critical for the excellent adsorption and remarkable photocatalytic activity of the anionic dye. The adsorption capacity of CuO to methyl orange (MO) at 0.4 g/L was approximately 30% under adsorption equilibrium conditions. We propose a state-changing mechanism to analyze the synergy and mutual restraint relation among the catalyst CuO, H+ions, dye and H2O2. According to this mechanism, the degradation rate of MO can be elevated 3.5 times only by regulating the MO ratio in three states. Keywords:mesoporous;photocatalyst;adsorption;methyl orange;CuO

Hybrid Composites Based on Al/CuO Nanothermites and Tetraamminecopper Perchlorate for High-Performance Energetic Materials

Yuxiang Li,Iftikhar Hussain,Xi Chen,Lei Zhang,Ruishan Han,Xiaoxia Ma,Kaili Zhang

Nanothermites have high energy densities and fast reaction speeds, but their applications are restrained by their relatively low gas generation capacity owing to the lack of gaseous products. By contrast, nitrogen-rich explosives can release substantial small-molecule gases upon intramolecular decomposition. Recently, the integration of nanothermites with nitrogen-rich explosives has attracted growing interest to attain improved reactive performances. In this work, hybrid energetic composites composed of Al/CuO nanothermites and tetraamminecopper perchlorate (TACP) were prepared. The reaction behaviors of pure TACP and a series of Al/CuO/TACP composites were systematically investigated. During the dynamic heating in thermogravimetry coupled with differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), the total heat release of Al/CuO/TACP composites was basically the linear combination of Al/CuO (2.23 kJ/g) and TACP (1.44 kJ/g) based on their mass contents. However, the addition of n-Al and n-CuO could lower the decomposition temperature of TACP by 20 °C, and the chlorides produced from TACP decomposition were found to promote the oxidation of n-Al. Compared with sole Al/CuO and sole TACP, the hybrid composites with TACP content of 10–25% showed considerably strengthened blast performances and significantly enhanced gas generation capacities. The maximum pressure and pressurization rate of Al/CuO/TACP_25% (1.67 MPa, 199.3 MPa/s) far exceed those of Al/CuO (1.01 MPa, 93.3 MPa/s). Owing to their superior reactivity, Al/CuO/TACP hybrid composites show promising potential as high-performance energetic materials for applications, including green primary explosives and gas generators.

Tang Xiao,Wang Zhenwei,Cai Dandan,Shao Qinsi,Qin Ziwei,Liu Yang,Li Wenxian,Li Ying,Zhang Jiujun

Design and synthesis of high-performance and low-cost electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) are of great significance in energy conversion applications. In this work, g-NiO/CuO composites with high catalytic performance for MOR are successfully synthesized by a template method using g-C 3 N 4 flakes as the sacrificial template. NiO nanoparticles are dispersed uniformly on the surface of the pine needle-liked CuO substrate, resulting in a synergistic effect which can enhance the electrocatalytic MOR activity and stability of g-NiO/CuO catalysts. The catalyst shows a maximum peak current density of 159 mA cm −2 and also long-term stability. The bimetal-oxide-synergistic strategy in this work highlights a promising way for the design of catalysts with high electrochemical performance for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs).

Synthesis of dual-functional CuO nanotubes for high-efficiently photoelectrochemical and colorimetric sensing of H2O2

Zheng Yang,Qian Rong,Ting Bao,Mingzhi Jiao,Lebao Mao,Xiaojie Xue,Wei Wen,Zhen Wu,Xiuhua Zhang,Shengfu Wang

Among one-dimensional nanostructures , copper oxide nanotubes (CuO NTs) have aroused wide attention due to their prominent performance in electronic, optical and energy conversion devices. However, the lack of suitable synthetic methods limits its large-scale production and broad application. Here, a new method for preparing well-dispersed CuO NTs with simple operation, mild conditions and low cost was established by integrating the synergy effect of H + corrosion with the protection of CH 3 COO − and surfactant. Different surfactants were applied to regulate the synthetic process and polyvinylpyrrolidone-protected CuO NTs (PVP-CuO NTs) owned the best uniform morphology and dispersibility. The synthesis mechanism was deeply investigated to provide guidance for the synthesis of other oxide nanotube structures. As an excellent semiconductor material , CuO NTs can be excited to produce multiple electron-hole pairs under light irradiation , thus catalyzing the reduction of H 2 O 2 . CuO NTs modified photocathode realized photoelectrochemical sensing of H 2 O 2 in the range of 1 μM-1 mM. Interestingly, the prepared CuO NTs exhibited wonderful mimic enzyme properties, providing the possibility of colorimetric sensing and point-of-care detection. The colorimetric sensor for H 2 O 2 detection had a linear relationship from 2 μM to 150 μM with a detection limit of 0.62 μM. The successful construction of the two sensing modes not only demonstrated the excellent performance of multifunctional CuO NTs, but also indicated its great promise in practical application.

Facet-dependent CuO/{010}BiVO4 S-scheme photocatalyst enhanced peroxymonosulfate activation for efficient norfloxacin removal

Tongyu Han,Haifeng Shi,Yigang Chen

Rapid recombination of charge carriers and sluggish Cu 2+ /Cu + conversion rate in Cu-based photocatalysts hinder the improvement of the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation efficiency. Herein, a novel S-scheme system was successfully built through hydrothermal and in-situ calcination methods to activate PMS for norfloxacin (NOR) degradation, which combined CuO with BiVO 4 (BVO) containing surface heterojunction. The UV–vis spectra manifested that BVO displayed excellent visible light absorption performance after compounding with CuO, and the light absorption threshold of CuO/BVO was about 600 nm. Thanks to the existence of surface heterojunction in BVO, the photoinduced electrons, and holes would transfer to {010} and {110} facets, respectively. The construction of S-scheme heterojunction further facilitated the accumulation of electrons on CuO, thus realizing the spatial separation of charge carriers. In addition, the electrons gathered on the CuO expedited the Cu 2+ /Cu + cycle, thereby improving the activation efficiency of PMS. On this basis, the NOR removal capacity of 5CuO/BVO composites was obviously enhanced, which was 3.65 and 2.45 times that of CuO and BVO. Moreover, the influence of ambient pH and PMS dosage on the photocatalytic performance of CuO/BVO was investigated. Through the analysis of NOR degradation pathways and degradation products, it was found that the toxicity threat of NOR to the environment was reduced during the degradation process. According to the XPS results, forming the S-scheme heterojunction accelerated the Cu 2+ /Cu + redox cycle during the PMS activating process. Meanwhile, photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) analysis demonstrated that the CuO/BVO composites exhibited eminent ability for charge separation. The possible mechanism of charge transfer was assumed by exploring reactive species and the energy band structure of catalysts. To sum up, this research provides a new perspective on boosting PMS activation to purify antibiotics in water.

General synthesis of flexible CuO nanoparticles-anchored ZrO2 nanofibrous membranes for catalytic oxidation of tetracycline

Haoru Shan,Wenqiang Wang,Zhirong Wang,Jianlong Ge,Qixia Liu,Wei Zhang,Qiuxia Fu

Constructing CuO-based nanofibrous membranes with remarkable mechanical performance, controllable nanostructures, and outstanding catalytic oxidation activity would be conducive to decomposing organic contaminants in wastewater through advanced oxidation processes; however, there remains a huge shortfall of such ceramic membranes that they are usually fragile with poor deformability. Herein, a universal approach was proposed for fabricating flexible CuO nanoparticles-anchored ZrO 2 nanofibrous membranes (CZNMs), that is, through the combination of successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) assembly and the follow-up thermal oxidation processes. Notably, the developed preparation method exhibited strong expansibility, which could be extended to the synthesis of other flexible metal oxides/ceramic nanofibrous composites, such as ZnO/ZrO 2 , CdO/ZrO 2 , and Mn 3 O 4 /ZrO 2 . Profiting from the integrated advantages of superior catalytic reactivity, uniform nanostructures distribution, and excellent mechanical properties, the resultant CZNMs displayed a prominent degradation efficiency of 92.4% within 50 min towards tetracycline hydrochloride under the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Furthermore, the stable hierarchical structures and robust mechanical performance endow the as-synthesized membranes with extraordinary reusability and easy recycling. The successful preparation of such ceramic-based nanofibrous membranes with superior flexibility and high-efficient catalytic performance might provide some reference to develop other synergetic membranous catalysts for wastewater treatment.

Zhijia Liao,Ninghao Chu,Zhenyu Yuan,Renze Zhang,Hongmin Zhu,Yanbai Shen,Fanli Meng

The novel copper hydroxyfluoride-copper oxide (CHFCO)/zinc hydroxyfluoride-zinc oxide (ZHFZO) nanomaterials were prepared by hydrothermal method and exhibited superior sensing performance for methamphetamine analogue-phenethylamine. The sensing characteristics of calcined ZHFZO rods, CHFCO flakes, and four composite nanomaterial ratios were examined. The experimental results demonstrated that the CHFCO/ZHFZO-2 sensor exhibited improved sensing performance for phenethylamine, with the optimum working temperature reduced to 200 ℃. The responses of the ZHFZO and CHFCO sensors to 10 ppm phenylethylamine were 1.9 and 3.5, respectively, while the response of the CHFCO/ZHFZO-2 sensor was enhanced to 5. With a response time (T res ) and recovery time (T rec ) of 30 s for 10 ppm phenylethylamine, the sensor enables rapid detection. It has great selectivity and reproducibility for phenylethylamine and can detect concentrations as low as 125 ppb, demonstrating its potential for quantitative detection at the parts per billion (ppb) level. The prepared composites possessed unique nanostructures and large specific surface areas . The substitution of fluoride ions produces a large electronegativity and the physical adsorption of polar hydroxyl bonds combine to enhance the sensitization of phenylethylamine gas. The findings presented in this study underscore the promising potential of the synthesized nanomaterials for highly sensitive and selective detection of phenylethylamine.

Sheet-Like Morphology CuO/Co3O4 Nanocomposites for Enhanced Catalysis in Hydrogenation of CO2 to Methanol

Zhenteng Sheng,Hui Zhou,Yuhua Zhang,Jinlin Li,Li Wang

The selective hydrogenation of CO2into high-value chemicals is an effective approach to address environmental issues. Cobalt-based catalysts have significant potential in CO2hydrogenation reaction systems; however, there is a need to control their selectivity better. In this study, copper is introduced onto Co3O4nanosheets using the ion exchange reverse loading method. The unique interaction of these materials significantly alters the selectivity of the cobalt-based catalyst. Results from scanning transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy indicate that this catalyst enables a more even dispersion of copper species in the Co3O4nanosheets. Temperature-programmed reduction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal that the catalyst facilitates the metal–metal interaction between Co and Cu. Temperature-programmed desorption experiments for CO2and H2demonstrate that the close interaction between Co and Cu modifies CO2adsorption, leading to differences in catalytic activity. Moreover, the catalyst effectively suppresses CO2methanation and promotes methanol formation by altering the alkalinity of the catalyst surface and weakening the hydrogen dissociation ability.Keywords:CO2hydrogenation;methanol;cobalt;copper

Oxygen vacancy-rich Ag/CuO nanoarray mesh fabricated by laser ablation for efficient bacterial inactivation

Guoli Liu,Zhixin Hu,Xiaoping Chen,Weihao Li,Yan Wu,Zuocheng Liu,Lei Miao,Zhu Luo,Jinlong Wang,Yanbing Guo

The contamination of drinking water by microbes is a critical health concern, underscoring the need for safe, reliable, and efficient methods to treat pathogenic microorganisms . While most sterilization materials are available in powder form, this presents safety risks and challenges in recycling. Herein, this study reports the preparation of an innovative copper oxide supported silver monolithic nanoarray mesh with abundant oxygen vacancies (Ag/CuO-V O ) by laser ablation . The instantaneous high temperature caused by laser ablation preserves the material's original structure while generating oxygen vacancies on the CuO surface. The Ag/CuO-V O mesh demonstrated a remarkable ability to inactivate over 99% of Escherichia coli ( E. Coli ) within 20 min. The oxygen vacancies in the Ag/CuO-V O enhance interactions between oxygen species and the Ag/CuO-V O , leading to the accumulation of large amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The generated ROS effectively disrupt both layers of the bacterial cell wall - the peptidoglycan and the phospholipid - as confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, culminating in cell death. This research presents a monolithic material capable of inactivating pathogenic microorganisms efficiently, offering a significant advancement in water sterilization technology .

Core-shell dual-MOF heterostructures derived magnetic CoFe2O4/CuO (sub)microcages with superior catalytic performance

Yan-Feng Huang,Xiao-Yi Sun,Shu-Hui Huo,Ying Li,Chongli Zhong

The high performance of catalysts relies largely on the meticulous design of hierarchical hollow micro/nanostructures with more active sites and superb structural tenability. Herein, we developed a simple strategy to design and fabricate CoFe 2 O 4 /CuO (sub)microcages using core-shell dual-MOF heterostructures (Fe II -Co PBAs@HKUST-1) as both the precursor and self-sacrificing template. The derivation of metal oxide composites from dual-MOF heterostructures is challenging, and this method could overcome the difficulty caused by the possible lattice mismatch between the different MOFs . Uniform core-shell dual-MOF structures Fe II -Co PBAs@HKUST-1 were first fabricated and then converted to CoFe 2 O 4 /CuO (sub)microcages by thermal annealing in air. The resulting CoFe 2 O 4 /CuO (sub)microcages were extensively characterized and exhibited remarkable catalytic performance with an excellent stability and magnetic recyclability for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol by NaBH 4 . In addition, CoFe 2 O / CuO (sub)microcages were also found to be highly active for catalytic reduction of methylene blue (MB) by NaBH 4 in an aqueous solution. The results show that CoFe 2 O 4 /CuO (sub)microcages have potential application for organic pollutants degradation and environmental rehabilitation.
