The development of a simple-yet-practical and accurate sensing strategy for rapid detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related miRNA in biofluids holds great promise for early diagnosis and monitoring of AD. Herein, a colorimetric/portable Raman dual-mode nanoprobe was proposed for quantification of AD-related miRNA-574-5p in biological fluids. The MOF-818@Au NPs@ssDNA nanoprobe was prepared by step-by-step loading of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and ssDNA onto the surface of MOF-818. Strikingly, the adsorbed ssDNA was capable of greatly improving the intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of MOF-818@Au NPs. In the presence of miRNA-574-5p, the ssDNA onto MOF-818@Au NPs will specifically hybridized with miRNA-574-5p, resulting in the desorption of ssDNA from MOF-818@Au NPs and the decrease of nanoenzyme activity for H 2 O 2 -mediated TMB oxidation. Based on this feature, visualization and quantitative analysis of miRNA-574-5p can be successfully realized by observing and measuring changes in output colorimetric/Raman signal from blue TMB oxide (oxTMB) with portable Raman spectrometer. Experimental results demonstrated that the colorimetric/portable Raman dual-mode nanoprobe can be utilized for fast, sensitive and accurate detection of AD-related miRNA-574-5p in complex human serum samples, providing a universal, valuable and practical tool for AD biomarkers detection and AD early diagnosis.

Phenolic compounds have been serving as primary antioxidants in retarding lipid oxidation, however, the conventional method for screening phenolic candidates is time-consuming and costly. In this study, phenolics were selected in accordance with the bond dissociation energy (BDE) of O−H and the Gibbs free energy change (ΔG) of the scavenging reaction via quantum chemistry calculation, the efficiency of selected phenolics was subsequently assessed by free energy barrier (ΔG‡), eventually, the suppression efficiency of the candidates was verified by using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) determination. Among six catechinic compounds, (−)-gallocatechin gallate (GCG) and (−)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) were identified as the most promising candidates, both of which showed potential efficiency for scavenging alkyl peroxyl (•OOR), alkoxyl (•OR), oleic acid (•OA-C11) and linoleic acid (•LA-C11) radicals. In the thermally-induced camellia oil model (180 °C, 20 min), the inhibition rates of EGCG against alkyl (•R), alkoxyl (•OR) and DMPO oxidative free radicals (•X) were 60.06 ± 0.38 %, 59.74 ± 2.57 % and 92.05 ± 1.70 %, respectively, analogously, the efficiencies of GCG scavenging these radicals ranged from 68.40 ± 0.82 % to 94.27 ± 0.33 %. This indicates that the proposed methodology can effectively screen lipid antioxidants, furthermore, both GCG and EGCG are capable of retarding oxidation in camellia oil.

A dual-mode sensor integrating colorimetric and fluorescent functionalities was constructed to enable sensitive, on-site visual detection of nitrite in food matrices, with CoFeMn hydroxide nanoflowers (CoFeMn HNFs) serving as a novel oxidase-mimicking nanozyme. First, the successful synthesis of CoFeMn HNFs was confirmed through a series of characterization techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Then, the synthesized CoFeMn HNFs, which exhibit remarkable oxidase-like activity, effectively catalyzed the oxidation of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its blue oxidized form (ox-TMB) via the generation of superoxide anion radicals (O 2 • ⁻). Its K m and V max values reached 0.399 mM and 2.8 × 10 −7 M·s −1 , respectively, demonstrating not only significantly higher catalytic activity than horseradish peroxidase (HRP) but also efficient catalysis without the requirement of H 2 O 2 . In the presence of nitrite, ox-TMB undergoes a diazotization reaction to form yellow diazo products, accompanied by a distinct fluorescence quenching effect. In the colorimetric mode, the sensor exhibited an excellent linear response to nitrite over the concentration range 0.2 to 40 µg/mL, accompanied by a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.063 µg/mL. For the fluorescence mode, a superior linear range of 0.3 to 40 µg/mL was achieved, with a LOD of 0.223 µg/mL nitrite. The results generated by this dual-mode sensor for real food samples were highly consistent with the reference values from the national standard method, thereby confirming its accuracy and practical utility. This work presents a versatile, reliable, and cost-effective nanozyme-based platform that addresses a critical need for sensitive, rapid, and on-site nitrite monitoring in food products, with broad implications for improving food safety surveillance and protecting public health.

Hydrogen evolution coupled with selective oxidation of organic molecules (such as methanol) via electrocatalytic or (photo)electrochemical route, offers an energy-efficient strategy for producing clean energy and value-added chemicals, yet remains hindered by sluggish interfacial charge-transfer kinetics and poor product selectivity. To unravel these interfacial processes, photocatalytic systems, wherein photogenerated charges drive redox half-reactions, not only mirror the essential charge-transfer steps in (photo)electrocatalysis, but also provide a self-contained micro-reaction environment, enabling direct probing of the intrinsic “catalyst/reactant/solvent” interface through in-situ and time-resolved spectroscopies to capture charge-transfer dynamics and key reaction intermediates. Herein, metal-anchored TiO 2 serves as a model catalyst and hydrogen evolution coupled with methanol oxidation is chosen as a probe reaction to elucidate the intrinsic link between interfacial charge transfer and catalytic performance. An apparent quantum yield of 94% and activity of 53.7 mmol g -1 h -1 for H 2 production are both achieved via Pt/TiO 2 , with a near-unity selectivity (~ 99%) for both H 2 and formaldehyde. A series of transition metal cocatalysts (Pd, Rh, Ru, Ni, Co, Au, Ag) demonstrate similar enhancement, showing a broad applicability of this interface-engineering approach. Comprehensive photoelectrochemical and photophysical characterizations reveal that anchored metals, acting as effective interfacial-charge regulators, significantly enhance charge separation, prolonging carrier lifetimes and lowering charge-transfer resistance. Mechanistic studies identify the ∙CH 2 OH radical as a key intermediate, steering the reaction toward selective oxidation of methanol. This study provides fundamental insights into interfacial charge-transfer kinetics and establishes a universal design principle for high-performance (photo)electrocatalytic interfaces for hydrogen production. The selective oxidation of inert C-H bonds in cycloalkanes to high-value KA oil (the mixture of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol) is a major industrial challenge, primarily due to the inherent trade-off between conversion and selectivity. To address this, we developed a novel photoelectrocatalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexane under ambient conditions. The catalyst was constructed by first synthesizing blue, oxygen-vacancy-rich MoO 3-x nanowires via a hydrothermal method, followed by the in-situ deposition of AuAg alloy nanoparticles with tunable compositions. Comprehensive characterization confirmed the uniform distribution of the alloy nanoparticles and the formation of a Schottky heterojunction with the MoO 3-x support. This design promotes efficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers and enhances visible-light absorption through the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. During photoelectrocatalytic oxidation, the optimized catalyst (MoO 3-x -Au 20 Ag 20 ) exhibited exceptional performance, achieving a cyclohexane conversion of 30.24% with 93.7% selectivity to KA oil under 2.6 V applied bias and 2 h of irradiation. This represents a 1.9-fold increase in conversion compared to pristine MoO 3-x nanowires. This work provides an efficient and selective pathway for alkane oxidation and advances the strategy for designing synergistic photoelectrocatalytic systems.

Vanadium-based catalysts are widely used in the oxidation of carbohydrates to produce formic acid (FA), a promising liquid organic hydrogen carrier, but still suffers from low yield due to the formation of CO 2 . This study found that the spatially isolated VO x on active carbon (AC) can significantly increase FA yield from 43.5 to 72.9% in glucose oxidation compared with free VO x . Two specific roles of AC were revealed. Firstly, the oxygenated functional groups, high surface area and abundant microporous of AC, play a crucial role in the atomic dispersion of VO x , resulting in a heterogeneous, single-site VO x -AC catalyst. The isolated VO x site favors the oxidative C C bond cleavage in glucose via a stepwise α-cleavage pathway, thus improving FA selectivity. Secondly, the conductive AC acts as an electron buffer, which accelerates the catalytic redox cycle between V 5+ and V 4+ of the isolated VO x sites, thus increasing the reaction activity. The prepared single-site VO x -AC catalyst is reusable and can generate a concentrated FA solution (4.7 wt%) by simple filtration of the solid catalyst. This work presents a simple method for the production of H 2 energy carrier from biomass and provides a fundamental basis for designing efficient catalytic systems for aqueous-phase oxidation reactions.

Traditional Fenton reaction is limited by strict pH and iron sludge. integrating photo-Fenton enables operation under mild conditions. We report a one-step hydrothermal synthesis of Fe-modified Bi 2 WO 6 (Fe-BWO) to create an efficient photo-Fenton synergistic system for ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal under visible light. The Fe-BWO system achieved 83.7 % CIP degradation in 1 h, surpassing standalone photocatalysis and homogeneous Fenton. The degradation rate was 6 times that of photocatalysis and 1.5 times that of homogeneous Fenton. Crucially, the system exhibited excellent stability, wide pH applicability, and low H 2 O 2 consumption OH, and ·O 2 − were confirmed as major reactive species. Mechanistic studies indicate that the narrowed band gap promotes electron migration, while H 2 O 2 -induced surface microenvironment variation (attributed to Bi (3−x)+ electron redistribution) is vital for molecular oxygen activation. This work offers novel insights into H2O2 activation and the impact of surface microenvironments in photo-Fenton processes.

Nanovaccines based on immunogenic cell death (ICD) present a promising strategy in tumor immunotherapy, serving as a bridge connecting tumor cell death to the induction of anti-tumor immunity. However, their efficacy is severely limited by the immunologically silent nature of apoptosis-dependent ICD and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). In this work, we designed a metal‒polyphenol network nanovaccine (SRF@FeShik-cGAMP/HA). Upon reaching the tumor tissue through specific targeting, the nanovaccines disassemble within the tumor cells, releasing the Fenton reaction catalyst ferrous iron (Fe 2+ ), the system Xc- inhibitor sorafenib (SRF), and necroptosis inducer shikonin. Fe 2+ , SRF, and shikonin collectively promote the accumulation of lipid peroxide and amplify ferroptosis by providing an exogenous iron source, inhibiting glutathione biosynthesis, and boosting reactive oxygen species production, respectively. Meanwhile, shikonin induces necroptosis. The combination of ferroptosis and necroptosis overcomes the limitation of tumor immune silencing and triggers a strong ICD. Simultaneously, the immune adjuvant 2'3'-cyclic-GMP-AMP (cGAMP) activates the STING pathway, reversing the immunosuppressive TME and enhancing the anti-tumor immune response mediated by ICD. The synergistic action of ferroptosis, necroptosis, and the STING pathway produces a cascade of antitumor immune responses and establishes long-term immune memory. This nanovaccine demonstrates promising therapeutic effects in primary, orthotopic, and recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) models. Collectively, our findings present a cancer immunotherapy strategy that exploits dual ferroptosis and necroptosis induction to trigger ICD, bypassing the limitations of apoptosis-dependent pathways. This strategy coordinates with the STING pathway to achieve potent antitumor immunity, providing a promising paradigm for HCC treatment, and offering a promising and translatable path for clinical development.

Conventional electrocatalytic degradation of pollutants involves either cathodic reduction or anodic oxidation process, which caused the low energy utilization efficiency. In this study, we successfully couple the anodic activation of sulfates with the cathodic H 2 O 2 production/activation to boost the generation of sulfate radical (SO 4 ·− ) and hydroxyl radical (·OH) for the efficient degradation of emerging contaminants. The electrocatalysis reactor is composed of a modified-graphite-felt (GF) cathode, in-situ prepared by the carbonization of polyaniline (PANI) electrodeposited on a GF substrate, and a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode. In the presence of sulfates, the electrocatalysis system shows superior activities towards the degradation of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), with the optimal performance of completely degrading the representative pollutant carbamazepine (CBZ, 0.2 mg L −1 ) within 150 s. Radicals quenching experiments indicated that ·OH and SO 4 ·− act as the main reactive oxygen species for CBZ decomposition. Results from the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and chronoamperometry studies verified that the sulfate ions were oxidized to SO 4 ·− radicals at the anode, while the dissolve oxygen molecules were reduced to H 2 O 2 molecules which were further activated to produce ·OH radicals at the cathode. It was also found that during the catalytic reactions SO 4 ·− radicals could spontaneously convert into peroxydisulfate (PDS) which were subsequently reduced back to SO 4 ·− at the cathodes. The quasi-steady-state concentrations of ·OH and SO 4 ·− were estimated to be 0.51×10 −12 M and 0.56×10 −12 M, respectively. This study provides insight into the synergistic generation of ·OH/SO 4 ·− from the integrated electrochemical anode oxidation of sulfate and cathode reduction of dissolved oxygen, which indicates a potential practical approach to efficiently degrade the emerging organic water contaminants.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has become an emerging cancer treatment method. Choosing the photosensitizer (PS) compounds is one of the essential factors that can influence the PDT effect and action. Carbon dots (CDs) have shown great potential as photosensitizers in PDT of cancers due to their excellent biocompatibility and high generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Here, we used tea polyphenol as raw material for synthesized tea polyphenol carbon dots (T−CDs) that show dual emission bands of red and blue fluorescence and can efficiently generate hydroxyl radicals (OH) under mildly visible irradiation with a LED light (400–500 nm, 15 mW cm−2). The extremely low cytotoxicity and excellent biocompatibility of T−CDs without light irradiation were tested using MTT and hemolytic assay. Further, T−CDs have been shown by in vivo experiments, using a mouse breast cancer cell line (4T1) subcutaneously injected in the back of the mouse buttock as a model, to effectively inhibit the tumor cell proliferation in solid tumors and show an excellent PDT effect. In addition, pathological sections of the mice tissues after further treatment showed that the T−CDs had no apparent impact on the major organs of the mice and did not produce any side effect lesions. This work demonstrates that the as−synthesized T−CDs has the potential to be used as a PS in cancer treatment. Keywords:carbon dots;tea polyphenols;photosensitizer;photodynamic;biocompatibility

Fe and Co single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been widely explored in many fields, while Zn SACs are still in their infancy stage. Herein, we unexpectedly found that atomically dispersed Zn2+ on N-doped carbon material (Zn-N-C) exhibited high catalytic activity on luminol-H2O2 chemiluminescence (CL) reaction. The Zn-N-C SACs were readily prepared through simple pyrolyzation of the cheap precursors (dopamine and ZnCl2). The mechanism of Zn SAC-catalyzed CL reaction of luminol-H2O2 was investigated in detail. The activity of Zn SACs originated from the Zn-N sites in the Zn-N-C structure. The monoatomic dispersion makes Zn2+ catalytic performance change from no activity to high activity in luminol-H2O2 CL reaction. This study demonstrated the particularity of the monatomic metal catalyst over the conventional metal ion. This work provides the unprecedented perspective for design of new metal SACs in CL reaction.

Singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 )-dominated advanced oxidation processes has drawn widespread attention for selective oxidation of organic pollutants in complex water environments. However, the high efficiency and selectivity of 1 O 2 generation remains challenging. Herein, we develop single-atom copper anchored on Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets (Cu-SA/MXene) by molten salt etching for the generation of 1 O 2 via peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Particularly, it exhibits a high selectivity of 99.71% toward 1 O 2 generation by activating PMS, which shows outstanding catalytic activity for multiple pollutants, and strong resistance to inorganic anions. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that the Cu single atoms with three oxygen coordination environments (Cu-O 3 ) are more favorable for PMS absorption and selectively adsorb the terminal oxygen of PMS to promote the generation of SO 5 .- , resulting in the generation of 1 O 2 . A continuous-flow wastewater system by dispersing catalysts on poly (vinylidene fluoride) membrane exhibit stable catalytic activity for polycarbonate plant wastewater treatment over 8 h.
