In order to decrease chemical consumption and improve surface quality in copper chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were innovatively employed in this study as lubricants and worked in synergy with 1,2,4-triazole (TAZ). The optimal TAZ concentration of 0.004 wt% was determined by dynamic polishing experiments, at which the surface roughness (Sq) could reach 2.15 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirmed that TAZ can form a dense passivation film on copper surfaces, significantly inhibiting excessive corrosion. However, atomic force microscope measurements revealed that scratches appeared on the surface after polishing. To address this, three functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNTs-COOH, MWCNTs-OH, MWCNTs-NH 2 ) were further introduced from a mechanical perspective. Experimental results indicate that they can effectively improve surface quality through a synergistic mechanism of “rolling lubrication-pressure buffering,” with MWCNTs-OH exhibiting the best performance, further reducing surface roughness to 1.21 nm. The findings uncover the underlying mechanisms of nanomaterials' novel functions in CMP.

Solar energy, as a crucial green energy source, attracted significant attention. Phase change materials (PCMs) addressed the intermittency issue by storing and releasing latent heat. This study innovatively combined carbon fibers (CFs), phenolic resin, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to create high-loading (>86 %) and high-enthalpy composite CF-based phase change materials (CFPCMs), with melting and freezing enthalpies of 156.6 J/g and 148.6 J/g. CFPCMs demonstrated excellent photothermal and electrothermal properties. The lightweight, porous CFs structure stabilized the PCMs matrix, enhancing its performance while facilitating the reuse of waste CFs products, thus contributing to environmental protection.

Industrial development has led to the generation of large amounts of oily wastewater, which poses significant threats to both environment and human health. These wastewater streams often contain various pollutants, such as organic dyes and heavy metal ions, creating an urgent need for multifunctional materials capable of efficiently separating these contaminants. In this study, we deposited sodium lignosulfonate (SLS)-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer membranes by vacuum filtration. Subsequently, a hydrophilic bio-inspired coating, consisting of pyrogallic acid (PG) and silane-coupling agent (KH550), was deposited on the membrane surface. The resulting composite membrane exhibited exceptional superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity. This membrane demonstrated high efficiency in separating various oil–water emulsions, with a separation efficiency reaching 99% and a stable separation flux maintained above 350 L m⁻ 2 h⁻ 1 . The SLS-modified MWCNTs provided the membrane with abundant adsorption active sites, enabling excellent removal of cationic dyes and heavy metal ions. The removal rates of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) exceeded 92% and 95%, respectively, while the adsorption capacities for Cu(II) and Pb(II) were 38.7 mg g −1 and 46.8 mg g −1 , respectively. Furthermore, the composite membrane demonstrated outstanding chemical stability and durability under highly acidic, alkaline, and 5% NaCl salt solution conditions. Consequently, the SLS-MWCNTs@P/K-MF composite membrane holds great promise for the treatment of complex oily wastewater in extreme environments and has significant potential for remediation of wastewater contamination.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanocomposites reinforced with hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized via in situ polymerization of polycarbonate diol (PCDL), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and chain extender. The MWCNTs were covalently integrated into the TPU matrix through reactions between surface hydroxyl groups and isocyanate. Systematic characterization revealed uniform MWCNT dispersion (SEM/XRD) without agglomeration up to 4 wt% loading. The nanocomposites exhibited enhanced hardness (80 to 89 Shore A), elevated thermal stability (5% weight loss temperature increased by 6 °C), and restricted soft-segment chain mobility (glass transition temperature rose from −37.34 to −26.26 °C). Critically, surface resistivity decreased dramatically from 10 14 (pure TPU) to 3 × 10⁶ Ω (4 wt% MWCNTs), achieving antistatic performance (5 × 10 11 Ω) at only 1 wt% loading. This work demonstrates a robust strategy for developing high-performance antistatic TPU nanocomposites.

The hydrophilic and antifouling polymeric membranes attract more and more attention. Herein, functionalized MWCNTs/SP composite films were facilely fabricated by blending sodium styrene maleic anhydride (SMANa), polyethersulfone (PES), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP K30), and functionalized MWCNTs. In addition, a gas-phase polymerization method was employed to deposit a PPy layer on the SP composite film, yielding conductive functionalized MWCNTs/PSP composite films, to prepared the conductive the functional-MWCNTs/PSP composite films with anti-pollution ability, high permeability and high selectivity. Among them, the addition of functional-MWCNTs increased the permeation flux and anti-pollution ability of the films. The MWCNT-NH/PSP composite film demonstrated remarkable performance with pure water flux of 453.9 L/(m 2· h) and methylene blue retention rate of 79.05%. Finally, MWCNTs-NH was co-blended with GO to construct an excellent conductive network, so that MWCNT-NH, GO and PPy had a synergistic effect to enhance the conductivity of the films, thereby improving the membrane’s retention performance of dyes and ions through enhanced electrostatic effect. Furthermore, the optimized MWCNT-NH/GO/PSP-2 composite film achieved maximum Congo red permeability of 252.44 L/(m 2· h) while maintaining high salt retention rates of 47.2% for NaCl and 61.0% for MgSO 4 .

The first trial for electrochemical determination of Pb(II) with a bimetal organic framework derived composite, denoted as Co-N x -C@MWCNTs, is demonstrated in this work. The Co-N x -C@MWCNTs with three dimensionally braided structure was fabricated on the basis of zinc/cobalt co-centered bimetal zeolite imidazole framework (BMZIF-67) and interlaced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Contributable to the presence of zinc/cobalt co-centers and the nitrogen-containing ligands, the homogenous dispersion of metallic cobalt and the formation of Co-N x moieties which were widely known as active sites in electrocatalysts were fulfilled. The integration of MWCNTs resulted in enhanced conductivity and extra porosity, which were also crucial for electrochemical sensing. Therefore, Co-N x -C@MWCNTs based electrochemical sensor exhibits good reliability for Pb(II) detection, with a low detection limit of 0.7 μg L −1 over a wide linear range of 2–60 μg L −1 . This design may shed lights on the fabrication of bimetal organic frameworks based electrochemical sensors in general.

Bismuth oxide (Bi 2 O 3 ) is widely used in photocatalytic oxidation degradation of organic pollutants due to its simple composition, green environmental protection and stable structure. However, the limited specific surface area (SSA) and the slow charge kinetics significantly limit its photocatalytic ability. Here, Bi 2 O 3 /MWCNTs heterojunctions were synthesized using hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-OH) as the substrate, explore the crystal growth mechanism and apply it to photocatalytic oxidation reactions. The one-dimensional (1D) structure and excellent electrical conductivity of MWCNTs-OH provide a special transport path for the spatial separation of photogenerated electrons and holes. The stable chemical properties and unique hollow cavity structure of MWCNTs-OH significantly increase the specific surface area of Bi 2 O 3 /CNTs. The optimized Bi 2 O 3 /CNT-3 demonstrated outstanding performance in the photocatalytic oxidation degradation of organic substances such as lignin and RhB. The photocatalytic activity of lignin degradation under visible light has increased by 5.8 times, and the performance of RhB removal has increased by 6.7 times.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), a cornerstone therapeutic agent for autoimmune diseases, requires precise serum concentration monitoring due to its narrow therapeutic window. Current HCQ monitoring methods such as HPLC and LC-MS/MS are sensitive but costly and complex. While electrochemical sensors offer rapid, cost-effective detection, their large chambers and high sample consumption hinder point-of-care use. To address these challenges, we developed a microfluidic electrochemical sensing platform based on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with a hierarchical nanocomposite of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), copper-based metal–organic frameworks (Cu-MOFs), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The Cu-MOF provided high porosity and analyte enrichment, MWCNTs established a 3D conductive network to enhance electron transfer, and AuNPs further optimized catalytic activity through localized plasmonic effects. Structural characterization (SEM, XRD, FT-IR) confirmed the successful integration of these components via π-π stacking and metal–carboxylate coordination. Electrochemical analyses (CV, EIS, DPV) revealed exceptional performance, with a wide linear range (0.05–50 μM), a low detection limit (19 nM, S/N = 3), and a rapid response time (<5 min). The sensor exhibited outstanding selectivity against common interferents, high reproducibility (RSD = 3.15%), and long-term stability (98% signal retention after 15 days). By integrating the nanocomposite-modified SPCE into a microfluidic chip, we achieved accurate HCQ detection in 50 μL of serum, with recovery rates of 95.0–103.0%, meeting FDA validation criteria. This portable platform combines the synergistic advantages of nanomaterials with microfluidic miniaturization, offering a robust and practical tool for real-time therapeutic drug monitoring in clinical settings.

On-site high-throughput photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection of sweeteners in foods and drinks by cost-effective portable devices is highly desirable for food safety and health management. However, current high-throughput PEC sensors usually suffer from high costs, complex fabrication processes, or poor mechanical properties. Here, a highly flexible and robust light-addressable PEC sensor for the enzyme-free high-throughput detection of sweeteners using single-channel electrochemical analyzers is reported. This solar cell-type sensor consists of a bismuth vanadate-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (BiVO 4 -MWCNTs) photoanode and a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) cathode. Amongst these electrode materials, BiVO 4 exhibits strong photochemical oxidation capacity towards various sugar and sugar substitute sweeteners, MWCNTs enhance the film-formation ability and the photo-induced electron transfer process of BiVO 4 , while Ag/AgCl greatly simplifies the structure of the sensor and promotes its PEC response by efficient cathodic compensation reaction. The resulting PEC sensor has good mechanical and PEC properties, and allows the rapid high-throughput detection of typical sweeteners such as glucose (GLU) and erythritol (ERY) with a calibration range of 10–240 mg/L. Moreover, the detection throughput of the sensor can be easily extended by connecting a series of sensors in parallel. The present work thus establishes a portable and flexible PEC platform for the rapid high-throughput detection of sweeteners in foods and drinks.

A facile, efficient, precise and reliable method based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was established to separate and determine two typical quinolone antibiotics (ofloxacin and lomefloxacin) and two typical sulfonamide antibiotics (sulfadimeisoxazole and sulfadimidine). The photocatalytic degradation effects, identification of intermediate products and decomposition pathways of these four antibiotics degraded by Bi 2 MoO 6 /Bi 2 WO 6 /MWCNTs composite catalyst were analyzed using the developed HPLC-MS/MS method. It was found that all four antibiotics can be synchronously decomposed with the ultrahigh removal rates of above 95 %. Three main degradation reactions of quinolones were detected: the decarboxylation of quinolones, the ring opening reaction of piperazine and the defluorination of C–F. The main decomposition reactions of sulfonamides included the sulfonamide bond (S N) breaking at the active sites, the oxidation of the amino acids on the benzene rings , and the substitution and oxidation ring opening reaction of pyrimidine. This study not only developed a detailed isolation and identification method for the degradation pathways and mechanisms of mixed pharmaceutical pollutants, but also provides a superb photocatalyst for the removal of multiplex pharmaceutical pollutants.

Due to a small amount of Cu (Ⅱ) ions being beneficial and too much being harmful, it is necessary to establish a rapid and direct detection method. Herein, we reported a platform based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIMPF6), and Nafion solution-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the direct electrochemical detection of Cu (II) ions. We used differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry, including the electrodeposition of Cu (Ⅱ) ions on the modified GCE and subsequent anodic stripping. Under the optimum conditions, the linear range was 20 μg·L −1 ∼ 950 μg·L −1 , the limit of detection (LOD) was 16 μg·L −1 , and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 54 μg·L −1 for Cu (II). We realized the quantitative detection of Cu (Ⅱ) ions in juice and tea beverage without tedious pretreatment. The result showed that the sensor had good anti-interference and practicability for actual food samples.

Compared to previously reported methods, we developed a facile dip-coating method to endow cotton fabric (CF) with satisfactory conductivity, superhydrophobicity and microwave absorption performance based on the combination of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hydrophobic octadecanoyl chain bonding. Silk nanofibers (SNFs) derived from silk were adopted as dispersant to prepare individually dispersed MWCNTs via ultrasonication and homogenization processes. The non-covalent functionalization of MWCNTs enabled by SNFs wrapping was superior to organic functionalization, which could keep the carbon backbone of MWCNTs intact and thus preserved their complete electron tube structure and electronic properties. The adhesion of MWCNTs coated to CF (MWCNT-CF) was enhanced via dipping coating and thermal treatment induced chemical immobilization cycles. Octadecanoyl chain-tethered MWCNT-CF (C18-MWCNT-CF) was manufactured by further treatment with stearoyl chloride to achieve superhydrophobicity. Compared with pristine CF (1.04 \(\times\) 10 10 Ω/sq), the C18-MWCNT-CF exhibited excellent conductive property with surface resistivity reaching 55 Ω/sq with the MWCNT loading content of 247.5 mg/g and possessed a relatively greater microwave absorption performance of − 36.08 dB at 9.28 GHz with merely 2.7 mm thickness. Compared with other similar materials, the as-prepared C18-MWCNT-CF showed outstanding comprehensive performance, which was the highest value reported in the literature. Meanwhile, C18-MWCNT-CF exhibited robust superhydrophobicity even after 20 scratching cycles due to the combination of octadecanoyl group tethering and the increased surface roughness. The biodegradable and recyclable C18-MWCNT-CF exhibited reasonable electrical conductivity, superhydrophobicity and microwave absorption that promises an ideal application prospect in the field of smart textile and wearable electronic devices.
