Biodegradable Mg/polymer composite fibers offer a promising therapeutic option for tissue injury because of bioactive Mg 2+ and biomimetic microstructure. However, current studies are limited to the contribution of Mg 2+ and the single microstructure. In this study, we designed Mg/poly (lactic- co -glycolic acid) (Mg/PLGA) composite microfibers that significantly enhanced angiogenesis and tissue regeneration synergistically by Mg 2+ and self-sculptured microstructure, due to spontaneous in situ microphase separation in response to the weakly alkaline microenvironment. Our composite microfiber patch exhibited superior performance in the adhesion, spreading, and angiogenesis functions of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) due to the joint contribution of the hierarchically porous microstructure and Mg 2+ . Genomics and proteomics analyses revealed that the Mg/PLGA composite microfibers activated the cell focal adhesion and angiogenesis-related signaling pathways. Furthermore, the repair of typical soft tissue defects, including refractory urethral wounds and easily healed skin wounds, validated that our Mg/PLGA composite microfiber patch could provide favorable surface topography and ions microenvironment for tissue infiltration and accelerated revascularization. It could cause rapid urethral tissue regeneration and recovery of rabbit urethral function within 6 weeks and accelerate rat skin wound closure within 16 days. This work provides new insight into soft tissue regeneration through the bioactive alkaline substance/block copolymer composites interactions.

Metal fuels are widely used in energetic materials to improve their energy release. Al Si alloy fuel is an aluminum-based alloy fuel, and its slow reaction rate limits its potential application in energy material systems. Herein, Al-Si-Mg AlSi9Mgx alloy fuel had been designed and successfully prepared by gas atomization to achieve excellent reactivity characteristics. The reaction characteristics of the fuel were systematically measured by thermal analysis (TG-DSC), bomb calorimeter, volumetric explosion vessel system and laser ignition measurement. Due to the addition of highly active magnesium, the activation energy of alloy fuel was reduced, and the combustion efficiency was increased to more than 99 %, and the ignition delay time was reduced by 6.7 ms and 33.6 ms respectively. Combustion of potassium perchlorate (KP) mixtures shows that AlSi9Mgx alloy fuels had a faster flame propagation rate, 22.814 mm/s and 42.543 mm/s. The superior reaction properties of AlSi9Mgx alloy fuel are due to the presence of internal solid solution Mg or low melting point alloy compound. This work and design provide a reliable method for optimizing the energy output of alloy fuels.

Due to the poor corrosion resistance of Mg-Li alloys and the limited effectiveness of single surface treatment methods, developing a composite coating is essential to significantly enhance the corrosion protection. In this study, a stable ceramic coating was fabricated on the surface of a Mg-Li alloy by micro-arc oxidation with regulation of the concentration of ZnO nanoparticles added to the electrolyte. Layered double hydroxides (LDH) was subsequently prepared on the coating surface by modulating the hydrothermal temperature, contributing to blocking the micropores and cracks to enhance the compactness of the coating. Additionally, a low-surface-energy hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) was selected to self-assemble on a rough micro/nano structured MAO/LDH coating to obtain a superhydrophobic surface The composite coating exhibited exceptional corrosion resistance, with the R ct value increasing by four orders of magnitude compared to the substrate and the Y 0 (CPE out ) reduced to the 10 -9 range. Furthermore, the coating keeps almost non-corrosion morphology after 7 days of immersion in 3.5% NaCl solution, which is attributed to the combined effects of the superhydrophobicity of HDTMS, the physical barrier effect and chloride ion trapping ability of LDHs, and the reduction in porosity achieved through the incorporation of nano-ZnO in MAO coating.

The mechanism of Mg 2+ introduction on the thermal expansion properties of Al 2 TiO 5 ceramics was elucidated through experimental characterization and theoretical calculation for Mg x Al 2(1-x) Ti 1+x O 5 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75). Results showed that as x increased from 0 to 0.75, the calculated thermal expansion coefficient (single-crystal) exhibited minimal variation, while the apparent thermal expansion coefficient (polycrystalline) increased from 0.09 × 10 -6 K -1 to 3.85 × 10 -6 K -1 (1000 °C). The low apparent thermal expansion of Al 2 TiO 5 (x = 0) was attributed to microcrack healing and pore compensation effects. For x = 0.75, the enhanced apparent thermal expansion was correlated with reduced microcrack formation and improved densification. The incorporation of Mg 2+ reduced octahedral distortion and lattice stiffness, thereby suppressing transverse vibrations of bridging oxygen atoms and contraction along the c-axis. This reduced thermal expansion anisotropy and minimized microcrack formation. Additionally, as Mg 2+ content increased from x = 0 to x = 0.75, the porosity reduced from (11.23 ± 0.13) % to (3.96 ± 0.24) %, thereby weakening the pore compensation effect. These findings provide valuable insights for designing Al 2 TiO 5 -based ceramics with low thermal expansion.

Global demand for lithium necessitates efficient extraction technologies, especially from low-quality brines with high magnesium-to‑lithium (Mg/Li) ratios, where conventional methods falter. This study presents a novel, quantum chemistry-guided methodology for the rational design of solvent extraction systems to address this challenge. By evaluating lithium binding affinities, triisopropylphenyl phosphate (TiPPP) was identified as a superior extractant. When formulated into an TiPPP-FeCl 3 system, it demonstrated exceptional performance under optimized conditions (90 % vol extractant, Fe/Li molar ratio of 1.2, O/A ratio of 1). In a single stage, the system achieved a lithium extraction efficiency of 92.8 %, corresponding to a remarkable Li/Mg separation factor of 1699. After scrubbing and stripping, the Mg/Li mass ratio in the final product was reduced to 0.0199, a 4156-fold decrease from the initial brine (82.7), outperforming the conventional tributyl phosphate (TBP)-FeCl 3 system. A combination of DFT calculations and spectroscopic analyses (Infrared spectroscopy, Ultraviolet spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry) confirmed that the high selectivity is governed by both the electronic environment of the phosphoryl (P=O) group and the steric hindrance effects. This study not only presents a high-performance system for direct lithium extraction but also establishes a rational design paradigm for developing advanced extractants for challenging separation tasks.

Na-ion batteries (NIBs) are promising for grid-scale energy storage applications. However, the lack of Co, Ni-free cathode materials has made them less cost-effective. In this work, Mg 2+ is successfully utilized to activate the oxygen redox reaction in earth-abundant Fe/Mn-based layered cathodes to achieve reversible hybrid anionic and cationic redox capacities. A high first charge capacity of ≈210 mAh g −1 with balanced charge–discharge efficiency is achieved without O-loss, showing a promising energy cost of $2.02 kWh −1 . Full cell against hard carbon anode without pre-sodiation shows energy density exceeding ≈280 Wh kg −1 with a decent capacity retention of 85.6% after 100 cycles. A comprehensive analysis of the charge compensation mechanisms and structural evolution is conducted. Voltage and capacity loss resulting from partially reversible Fe 3+ migration to the Na layer is confirmed, shedding light on further improvements for low-cost NIB cathodes in application scenarios.

Lithium/thionyl chloride (Li/SOCl 2 ) primary batteries are appealing power solutions because of their remarkable electrochemical performances. However, their mass applications are hindered by the challenges in sustainability, cost and safety concerns owing to the employed Li chemistry. Here, magnesium (Mg) chemistry is shown as a promising alternative through synergistic optimization of electrolyte solvation and electrode reaction kinetics. The first Mg/SOCl 2 primary battery yields surprisingly high specific capacities up to ≈14 000 mAh g −1 at a decent discharge voltage of ≈1.67 V, which outperforms the state-of-the-art Mg-based primary batteries. In addition, it retains almost 100% of the original capacity after 20-day reservation. The impressive battery performances are originated from the stabilized MgCl 2 formation on high-surface-area carbon cathode and suppressed Mg anode corrosion via the Mg-induced solvation effect. Mg/SOCl 2 primary batteries are promising candidates for low-cost and recyclable power supplies, and they thus open new avenues for the development of sustainable battery chemistries.

High-nickel layered oxide LiNi 0.9 Co 0.1 O 2 is a promising cathode material for lithium-ion batteries due to its high specific capacity and low cost. However, the internal stress generated during deep delithiation can cause microcracks, giving rise to rapid capacity decay and deteriorated thermal stability. In this work, Mg and Al ions are incorporated into the bulk phase of LiNi 0.9 Co 0.1 O 2 via high-temperature solid-state reaction. We demonstrate that Al 3+ doping enhances charge transfer between transition metal (TM) and oxygen layers, strengthening TM-O bonds and stabilizing the structure, thereby alleviating structural distortions under deep delithiation. More impressively, Mg 2+ doping significantly improves structural stability through a pillaring effect, effectively suppressing irreversible phase transitions during charge-discharge cycling. Consequently, Mg-Al co-doping optimizes the overall structural integrity of the high-nickel cathode, enhances its stability, and inhibits lattice oxygen release during long-term cycling. The Mg-Al co-doped LiNi 0.9 Co 0.1 O 2 delivers a remarkable capacity of 177.3 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles with capacity retention of 93.5 %, demonstrating outstanding cyclability. This Mg-Al co-doping strategy provides a simple and practical approach to enhance the electrochemical performance of high-nickel layered cathode materials.

This study presents a systematic investigation of the crystalline phases, grain characteristics, dynamic hysteresis loops, and magnetodielectric attributes of Mg 0.9 Zn 0.1 Fe 2- x Co x O 4 ferrites ( x = 0.00–0.10, with a increments of 0.02). The samples were fabricated by a solid-state synthesis route, and formed by sintering at 950 °C for 3 h. XRD analysis shows that all samples possess the standard ferrite phase. Due to the influence of sintering additive Bi 2 O 3 , the trace amounts of Bi 24 Fe 2 O 39 phase are present in the samples, which exert a positive influence on the material’s dielectric performance. Analysis of the grain characteristics indicates that the mean crystallite dimension of the samples gradually increases as Co 2 + ion substitution level rises, and the particle size distribution becomes more uniform. Upon applied magnetic field stimulation, all samples present outstanding soft magnetic properties. When the Co 2+ content is 0.06, the saturation magnetization of the material attains a peak value of 48.8 emu/g. Dynamic magnetic measurements reveal that the permeability decreases significantly (from 20 to 7.5) with the incorporation of Co 2+ ions, while the cutoff frequency correspondingly increases from 0.2 GHz to 1 GHz. At x = 0.08, the sample exhibits excellent magneto-dielectric matching characteristics across the 10–300 MHz frequency band. The normalized impedance value is approximately 1, and the permeability and permittivity are nearly equal in magnitude ( μ' = 10, ε' = 10.1 at 100 MHz). Additionally, the magnetic and dielectric losses are remarkably low at 100 MHz, with tanδ μ = 0.054 and tanδ ε = 0.0048. Consequently, the magneto-dielectric material prepared in this work is a potential option for miniaturized VHF antenna substrate material.

Mg-CO 2 battery has emerged as a promising battery technology by harnessing greenhouse gas as an active material. However, its development is greatly hindered by sluggish CO 2 conversion kinetics, resulting in high overpotentials and poor reversibility. Herein, we report a class of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidoxyl (TEMPO) homogeneous catalyst to regulate CO 2 adsorption and optimize reaction pathways through a quantum tunneling effect induced by electron transfer from the TEMPO free radical to CO 2 that classical electron transfer mechanisms cannot overcome. This quantum tunneling effect not only enables CO 2 reduction at lower voltage but also regulates the CO 2 adsorption environment, leading to the alternated reaction pathway for the formation of flower-like MgC 2 O 4 as the discharge product, rather than the dense MgCO 3 typically formed in traditional models. The TEMPO-based Mg-CO 2 batteries achieve an exceptional discharge voltage of 1.1 volts and a charge voltage of 1.3 volts, with stable cycling performance for over 450 hours, representing the best-reported performance among Mg-CO 2 battery systems to date.

Rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) are one of the most promising “post-lithium” battery technologies, but the electrochemical performance is still far from expectation due to the sluggish reaction kinetics of divalent Mg2+ ions. Herein, we report a low-cost, high-performance Mg–organic battery based on the combination of a fluorinated alkoxyaluminate electrolyte and a carbonyl polymer cathode material. First, the one-pot synthesized Mg[Al(HFIP)4]2 (HFIP = hexafluoro-2-propanol) is proved superior to the Mg[B(HFIP)4]2 analogue in both Mg anode compatibility and electrochemical window, as the electrolyte salt in the G2–DME (G2 = diethylene glycol dimethyl ether; DME = 1,2-dimethoxyethane) mixture solvent. Second, a simple wet grinding method is proposed to effectively improve the dispersion uniformity of the poly(benzoquinone-pyrrole) (PBQPy) active material in the cathode. Third, the elaborate Mg–PBQPy battery exhibits superior electrochemical performance within 0.4–3.0 V, including a high reversible capacity of 197 mA h g–1, a high average discharge voltage of 1.6 V, and a high capacity retention of 71% after 500 cycles. Finally, based on various electrochemical analysis and ex situ characterization results, we propose a general microscopic structure evolution model to reveal the electrochemical behaviors of carbonyl polymer cathode in RMBs, including the swelling of polymer active material, trapping of Mg2+ ions, and reversible redox reaction.
