In this study, a two-step functionalizing strategy by combining co-condensation with grafting procedures was employed to synthesize well-ordered Amino- and Thiol-Bifunctionalized SBA-15 (ATBS) mesoporous silica. Its physicochemical properties , performance, and mechanisms in immobilization of toxic metals Pb and Cd in water and soil were investigated. After bi-functionalization, X-ray diffractometer , transmission electron microscope , and N 2 adsorption-desorption measurements confirmed that the ATBS maintained a highly-ordered mesoporous structure, large surface area and pore volume. The elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) evidenced the successful incorporation of amine and thiol groups into ATBS. These structure and functional characteristics of ATBS benefited Pb and Cd sorption . Sorption isotherms of Pb and Cd were better fit with Sips and Redlich-Peterson models. Sorption kinetics suggested that Pb sorption was mainly regulated by chemical reactions, whereas both diffusion process and chemical reactions were rate-regulating steps in Cd sorption. ATBS showed the maximum sorption capacities for Pb and Cd at 120 and 38 mg g −1 , respectively. The sorption mechanisms revealed by XPS measurements suggested that Cd sorption was mainly attributed to thiol groups while Pb was efficiently bond to both thiol and amino groups. High and stable sorption efficiencies were attained in the pH range of 4–6, with a higher affinity towards Pb than Cd. Furthermore, its ability to immobilize Pb and Cd in soils was examined with an incubation experiment, which showed that ATBS reduced 30–56% of MgCl 2 -extractable Pb and Cd in a contaminated soil. The synthesized sorbent via the two-step functionalizing strategy shows high sorption efficiency towards Pb and Cd, and thus it has potential application in remediating Pb and Cd contaminated water and soils.

New nanocomposites, Fe3O4@Au–FITC, were prepared and explored to develop a fluorescent detection of Pb2+. The Fe3O4@AuNPs–FITC nanocomposites could be etched by Pb2+in the presence of Na2S2O3, leading to fluorescence recovery of FITC quenched by Fe3O4@Au nanocomposites. With the increase of Pb2+concentration, the fluorescence recovery of Fe3O4@AuNPs–FITC increased gradually. Under optimized conditions, a detection limit of 5.2 nmol/L of Pb2+with a linear range of 0.02–2.0 µmol/L were obtained. The assay demonstrated negligible response to common metal ions. Recoveries of 98.2–106.4% were obtained when this fluorescent method was applied in detecting Pb2+spiked in a lake-water sample. The above results demonstrated the high potential of ion-induced nanomaterial etching in developing robust fluorescent assays. Keywords:gold nanoparticles;magnetic nanoparticles;FRET;nanomaterial etching;lead ions

A novel method for the determination of ultratrace Pb in seawater by solution-cathode glow discharge atomic emission spectrometry (SCGD-AES) coupled with hydride generation (HG) has been developed. In the SCGD process, the hollow Ti tube, which can introduce gas instead of a solid tungsten rod is used as a discharge anode and combined with hydride generator. HG technology can not only separate Pb from a seawater matrix and reduce the matrix interference on detection, but can also significantly improve the transfer and atomization efficiencies for SCGD-AES. The optimum working conditions for HG and SCGD-AES for quantitative analysis of Pb were determined as 1% H 2 C 2 O 4 as the masking agent and addition of 3% formic acid to increase Pb volatilization . The limit of detection (LOD) for Pb was decreased by two orders of magnitude in comparison to the SCGD-AES process alone. Under optimal conditions, the LOD for Pb was 0.17 μg L −1 , and the relative standard deviation was 2.1% ( n = 11) for 100 μg L −1 Pb in artificial seawater. The proposed quantification method was verified using a seawater reference material (BWQ7001-2016), and the obtained results agreed well with certified values. Finally, the approach was used to quantitatively analyse Pb in seawater, and the results agreed well with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry . The recoveries of standard addition were between 96.0% and 103.0%.

Polypropylene-based chelating fibers grafted with acrylic acid and acrylamide side chains were simply synthesized, and subsequently employed as adsorbents for Pb(II) removal selectively from aqueous solutions. The assynthesized fibers were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and water contact angle. The adsorption results revealed that kinetics data were fitted by a pseudo-second order model (semi-saturation time 6.2 min), thereby suggesting chelating interaction to be the main mechanism during the adsorption process. The adsorption isotherm data fitted well with a Langmuir model. The thermodynamic study revealed the adsorption of Pb(II) as an exothermic spontaneous chemisorptive process. Coexisting Na(I), Mg(II), and Al(III) in solution showed negligible effects in the adsorption process. As confirmed by carboxyl amination, the carboxylate oxygen preferentially chelates coexisting Ca(II) over Pb(II), thereby leading to lower extents of Pb(II)-O chelate interaction. The spent fibers were effectively and repetitively (five cycles) regenerated while maintaining high performance upon treatment with 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions.

The crystal structure of perovskite has a significant influence on the photovoltaic performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Pb 4+ is introduced into CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 (MAPbI 3 )-based PSCs by participating the octahedral [PbI 6 ] 4- structure, then to induce the formation of stronger Pb-I bond and reduce [PbI 6 ] 4- octahedron distortion, which would improve structural symmetry, decrease the degree of disorder and be beneficial to the crystallization of perovskites . Synchrotron based X-ray absorption fine spectroscope (XAFS) revealed that the existence of higher valence state lead could be realized by doping Pb 4+ directly or induced by electron withdrawing group, in consequence the [PbI 6 ] 4- octahedral structure becomes more stable. Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) especially demonstrates that Pb 4+ with appropriate proportion may well replace part of Pb 2+ to form an uniform phase in the primal perovskite structure to improve the crystallization on the surface and homogeneous out-of-plane (OOP) ordered crystal accumulation in the bulk, which is also important for improving the efficiency and stability of PSCs. As a result, a power conversion efficiency (PCE) exhibits a 42.1% increase with the doping of 0.03% PbF 4 and 0.075% PCBM compared with a pristine device and its stability improves markedly after 30 days of storage in ambient atmosphere.

Lead (Pb(II)) contamination is common in liquid foods and can result from Pb(II) being present in the raw materials or during handling processes. However, due to the complexity of food matrices, there is limited data available concerning Pb(II) ion removal from food sources. This study focused on fabricating a PVA/PAA/DMTD electrospun nanofibrous membrane (ENFM) to efficiently and selectively remove Pb(II) ions from liquid foods. The PVA/PAA/DMTD ENFM had a maximum adsorption capacity of 138.3 mg/g for Pb(II) ions and demonstrated high selectivity toward the removal of Pb(II) ions. Negative values of the Gibbs free energy (Δ G °) showed that the spontaneous nature of the adsorption process was feasible at different temperatures. Moreover, it successfully removed Pb(II) ions from selected samples of commercially available drinks. Therefore, this adsorbent exhibits significant potential for removing Pb(II) ions from liquid food products, thereby reducing daily dietary exposure to Pb(II).

Lead is one of the highly toxic metals reaching the water bodies from industries and discarded domestic wastes. Chitosan and its derivatives can be used to modify magnetic materials to promote the adsorption properties of the magnetic materials for the removal of metal ions. The obtained ECCSB@Fe 3 O 4 was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM and VSM analysis. The effect of solution pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time , initial metal ion concentration and temperature effect was studied. The results of the batch sorption kinetic experiments were substituted into the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion models. The R 2 and SSE results show that pseudo-second order equation describes the sorption process very well. Adsorption process revealed that the initial uptake of Pb(II) was rapid and equilibrium was achieved within 105 min. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models were applied to represent adsorption isotherm data. The equilibrium data were well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model by revealing the maximum sorption capacity value 86.20 mg/g of ECCSB@Fe 3 O 4 . Different thermodynamic parameters, namely, changes in standard Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy, were also evaluated from the temperature dependence, and the results suggest that the adsorption reaction is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash is hazardous due to its high heavy metal content, particularly Pb, which is highly mobile and poses significant health risks. This study synthesized polyethyleneimine-derived dithiocarbamates (PDTCs) with multiple sulfur-containing functional groups for chelation-based Pb(II) stabilization in MSWI fly ash leachate-related systems. The dissolved Pb(II) removal efficiency exceeded 95% under optimized conditions, indicating effective chelation-based stabilization of mobile Pb(II). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were employed to characterize the properties of Pb–PDTC precipitates and elucidate the chelation mechanism. The results demonstrate that coordination between -CSS- groups in PDTCs and Pb(II) was the main mechanism for Pb(II) chelation and stabilization. Among the tested PDTCs, PDTC-600 exhibited the best overall Pb(II) stabilization performance due to better accessibility of active -CSS- groups. Under acidic conditions, a lower pH destabilized the chelates. Despite this, PDTCs maintained high dissolved Pb(II) removal efficiency in aqueous batch systems, indicating their potential for chelation-based Pb(II) stabilization in leachate-related systems. This study provides a mild and potentially cost-effective strategy for chelation-based Pb(II) stabilization in MSWI fly ash leachate-related systems. Future research should further verify the performance of PDTCs in real, highly alkaline fly ash leachate and optimize chelator molecular weight to balance Pb(II) stabilization efficiency, precipitate stability, reagent safety, and environmental compatibility.

Water vapor plays a pivotal role in both the crystallization of CsPbBr-based perovskites and the operational stability of devices incorporating these materials. However, previous studies on this topic have been limited to indirect ex situ observation. Here, we utilize in situ environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) to directly monitor the dynamic growth of CsPbBr-based perovskite at a water vapor pressure of 609 Pa (equivalent to 75% relative humidity at 4 °C) under a controlled gas atmosphere. Our real-time in situ observation captures the concomitant and direct crystallization of CsPb 2 Br 5 and CsPbBr 3 , challenging the conventional phase-transition-mediated formation pathway. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the dual emission in the mixture of CsPbBr 3 and CsPb 2 Br 5 originates from distinct emissive centers, in contrast to the self-absorption and re-emission mechanism in rod-like CsPbBr 3 . These findings offer direct evidence of water-vapor-mediated crystallization and their impact on material performance, thereby paving the way for both the design of environmentally stable perovskite-based devices and future ESEM investigations into complex multiphase processes.

Lead (Pb) contamination in wastewater poses a persistent environmental challenge. Developing effective, sustainable adsorbents from renewable resources is a key goal of cleaner production. Herein, a bio‑based organic–inorganic composite hydrogel (I‑Hydrogel) was constructed using amino‑functionalized montmorillonite nanosheets (AMMT) combined with lignin (a renewable aromatic polymer), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and polyethyleneimine (PEI). In this design, AMMT provided inorganic adsorption-active sites, while the PVA/PEI network served as a three-dimensional scaffold to immobilize lignin and AMMT, generating a hierarchically porous framework enriched with nitrogen- and oxygen-containing functionalities. The optimized hydrogel exhibited a maximum Pb(II) adsorption capacity of 190.22 mg/g. The adsorption process was better described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models and was thermodynamically favorable and endothermic within the investigated temperature range. Spectroscopic analyses indicated that Pb(II) uptake originated from a synergistic mechanism involving cation exchange at clay-associated sites and coordination interactions with amino, imine, hydroxyl, and other oxygen-containing groups in the hybrid network. This work demonstrates an effective strategy for integrating functional clay nanosheets with renewable bio‑based components into recoverable adsorbent platforms, offering a sustainable materials design approach that aligns with cleaner production principles for heavy‑metal removal from aqueous systems.

Highly crystalline ETS-10 zeolite was prepared with a surface area of 250 m 2 /g and an average pore size of 1.67 nm. • Adsorption was highly pH-dependent, reaching peak efficiency at pH 5.0 for Pb(II) and pH 6.0 for both Cu(II) and Cd(II). • The Sips model best described the adsorption without being limited by concentration. • The adsorption kinetic of Pb(II) follows the PSO model, whereas the ID model controls the removal of Cd(II) and Cu(II). • The removal of Pb, Cu, Cd occurred via stoichiometric Na+/K+ ion exchange within 12-membered rings and surface complexation. Understanding adsorption kinetics and mechanisms play an instrumental role to determine the speed, efficiency, and pathways by which adsorbents remove pollutants. In this study, kinetics and mechanisms of the adsorption of Pb(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) onto ETS-10 are investigated based on the combination of experimental, theoretical models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips, Pseudo-First-Order (PFO), Pseudo-Second-Order (PSO), Intraparticle diffusion (ID)), and modern analytical techniques (XRD, SEM-EDX, FT-IR and BET-BJH). Obtained results show that Sips models give the best fit with experimental data for three ions, while kinetic of Pb(II) adsorption follows PSO and kinetics of Cu(II) and Cd(II) uptakes follow ID models. The adsorption rates of Pb(II) > Cd(II) > Cu(II) during the diffusion process on the surface, whereas the ones of Pb(II) > Cu(II) > Cd(II) in the intraparticle diffusion process. The mechanisms of intraparticle diffusion, ion-exchange and complexion play mainly roles in the removal of Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cu(II). A green and sustainable strategy was proposed to efficiently convert polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waste into high-value porous carbon adsorbents for simultaneous waste plastic resourcing and heavy metal pollution control. The synthesis integrates solvothermal pretreatment with dimethylformamide (DMF), followed by KOH activation and heteroatom doping using thiourea as the N/S source. Solvothermal pretreatment increases carbon yield to 40 wt%. NS-PVC has a hierarchical pore structure with a high specific surface area of 1096.53 m2 g−1, moderate pore size distribution, and rich oxygen-containing, sulfur-containing, and nitrogen-containing functional groups, and comparative experiments confirmed that the doped N and S heteroatoms had a synergistic effect and promoted the adsorption performance, demonstrating exceptional removal efficiency (96%) for the high-concentration Pb(II) solution (1500 mg L−1), with a maximum adsorption capacity of 149.2 mg g−1. Through adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies, it was confirmed that the adsorption process of Pb(II) on NS-PVC was endothermic and consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir models. By comparing the physicochemical properties of NS-PVC before and after the adsorption of Pb(II), it was confirmed that the adsorption of Pb(II) on NS-PVC was controlled by a combination of chemisorption and physisorption, including ion exchange, surface complexation, pore filling and electrostatic attraction.
