Microneedle arrays (MA) have been extensively investigated in recent decades for transdermal drug delivery due to their pain-free delivery, minimal skin trauma, and reduced risk of infection. However, porous MA received relatively less attention due to their complex fabrication process and ease of fracturing. Here, we present a titanium porous microneedle array (TPMA) fabricated by modified metal injection molding (MIM) technology. The sintering process is simple and suitable for mass production. TPMA was sintered at a sintering temperature of 1250°C for 2 h. The porosity of TPMA was approximately 30.1% and its average pore diameter was about 1.3 μm. The elements distributed on the surface of TPMA were only Ti and O, which may guarantee the biocompatibility of TPMA. TPMA could easily penetrate the skin of a human forearm without fracture. TPMA could diffuse dry Rhodamine B stored in micropores into rabbit skin. The cumulative permeated flux of calcein across TPMA with punctured skin was 27 times greater than that across intact skin. Thus, TPMA can continually and efficiently deliver a liquid drug through open micropores in skin.

The selective hydrogenation of furfural (FAL) to furfuryl alcohol (FOL), catalyzed by the industrially important Cu/Al 2 O 3 catalysts, represents a significant research focus in biomass valorization. In this work, the significant promoting role of Ti modification on the performance of Cu/Al 2 O 3 for this reaction was systematically investigated using a series of Cu-xTi/Al 2 O 3 (x = 1–15 wt%) catalysts. The results revealed that at low Ti loadings (<9 wt%), Ti species were highly dispersed, formed Ti–O–Al interfacial structures with the Al 2 O 3 support, effectively increasing the number of weak acid sites and oxygen vacancies. Importantly, Ti modification optimized the metal-support interaction, enhanced the electron density of Cu species through electron transfer, significantly improved the reducibility of Cu species, and promoted the formation of metallic Cu 0 . However, excessive Ti loading (>9 wt%) led to the formation of crystalline TiO 2 particles that blocked surface active sites. The Cu-9Ti/Al 2 O 3 catalyst exhibited the best performance, achieving 100 % furfural conversion and 100 % furfuryl alcohol selectivity under reaction conditions of 85 °C, 1.0 MPa H 2 , and 4.5 h in isopropanol solvent. In situ DRIFTS experiments confirmed that the reaction followed the pathway of selective carbonyl adsorption and hydrogenation, and the formed furfuryl alcohol underwent rapid desorption, avoiding over-hydrogenation. This work elucidates the dual role of Ti modification in enhancing catalytic performance by tuning support acidity and optimizing the Cu electronic structure, providing insights for designing high-performance non-noble metal hydrogenation catalysts.

Nano powder plays a key role in preparing high performance tungsten-based materials. It is necessary to synthesize powder with uniform element distribution, low impurity content, and fine particles for preparing higher performance tungsten-based materials with more uniform microstructure, with smaller grain size and higher densification. However, it is difficult to synthesize uniform oxide/carbide reinforced tungsten matrix composite powders with specific structure by traditional powder metallurgy method. In this manuscript, nano W-Y-Ti powders with core-shell structure were synthesized by organic chemical method. The average grain size of W-Y-Ti is 33.33 nm, which indicates the powder refinement is 1 order of magnitude compared with other methods. Moreover, due to the difference of Y 3+ and Ti 4+ , the Y phase tends to form core in W particle and the Ti phase tends to form shell around W particle in these powders synthesized by organic chemical method. This powder structure is conducive to in-situ dispersion of the reinforced phase during sintering and significantly improves the interface properties of the reinforced phase /W matrix phase. The W-Y-Ti composite prepared by SPS shows fine grain size (750 nm) and uniform distribution (Y 2 O 3 is distributed within the W grain, while Ti is distributed at the grain boundaries). It means the microstructure of the powder can be inherited to the bulk materials, which can improve the performance of these composites. This manuscript provides ideas and data basis for the synthesis and preparation of high-strength, tough and high-performance W-based composite materials.

The rapid advancement of highly integrated electronics demands next generation electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials that combine lightweight, ultrathin, flexible, and mechanically robust properties with exceptional shielding effectiveness (SE) to mitigate signal crosstalk and ensure device reliability. In this work, we demonstrate the fabrication of high-performance EMI shields using highly conductive, additive-free aqueous Ti3C2Tx (T = O, OH, Cl, F) MXene dispersions synthesized under both harsh and mild etching conditions. These dispersions were engineered into freestanding thin films and functionalized cotton fabrics via vacuum-assisted filtration, enabling tunable EMI shielding properties through precise control of etchant chemistry, flake size, microstructure, thickness, and MXene loading. The EMI shielding improved with film thickness and the 13 μm thick film demonstrated exceptional EMI shielding of 60 dB. The freestanding heat treated Ti3C2Tx film with minimal thickness of 5 µm achieved a remarkable shielding effectiveness of 71 dB (which is 37% higher than the untreated film) corresponding to 99.99999% EMI attenuation. This film also exhibited an ultrahigh absolute shielding effectiveness (SSET) of 72,300 dB cm2 g−1, surpassing all previously reported MXene-based shields of comparable thickness. The improved stability was attributed to thermal conversion of surface OH groups to O-terminations, reducing interflake spacing and enhancing conductivity. The coated cotton fabric achieved an unprecedented SE of 82 dB due to the excellent wave attenuation associated with its porous structure. Notably, the fabric retained its shielding performance even after six months of ambient exposure, highlighting exceptional environmental stability. This study establishes critical structure-property relationships, revealing that induced porosity, meta-structure effects, large flake size, and optimized surface terminations synergistically enhance EMI shielding. By elucidating the interplay between material parameters and shielding performance, this work provides a foundational framework for designing advanced EMI mitigation technologies, paving the way for scalable, high-performance shielding solutions in next-generation flexible and wearable electronics.

To address ion interference in photocatalytic antibiotic degradation within high-salt seawater, this study innovatively designed and synthesized a titanium-based metal–organic framework (MOF) heterojunction composite. Specifically, a solvothermal technique was used to create MIL-125(HAC)/TiO 2 (TAC) photocatalysts using commercial TiO 2 (P25) and MIL-125(Ti) that had been treated with acetic acid. Remarkably, under 60 min of visible-light irradiation, the optimized TAC-2 sample achieved 95.7 % tetracycline (TC) degradation in seawater (compared to 98.1 % in deionized water) and retained >85 % efficiency after four cycles. Critically, its degradation rate constant (k=0.0355 min −1 ) in seawater was 44.4 times higher than that of P25, demonstrating exceptional resistance to salt-ion interference and photocatalytic activity. Mechanistic studies revealed that the performance enhancement arises from three synergistic mechanisms: (1) A mesoporous structure mitigating ion interference and strengthening TC-selective adsorption; (2) A Type-II heterojunction enabling efficient charge separation; (3) •O 2 − and h + identified as dominant active species (confirmed by EPR and quenching tests). Collectively, this work establishes an effective MOF heterojunction engineering strategy for efficient antibiotic removal in saline environments, ultimately contributing to marine pollution remediation.

To support green transition of vanadium titanomagnetite blast furnace smelting, various low-carbon blast furnace atmospheres, including oxygen-enriched air injection (CO–N 2 ), oxygen-enriched H 2 -rich air injection (CO–H 2 ), and H 2 -rich air injection (CO–H 2 –N 2 ) were investigated to gain insight on the Ti(C,N) formation mechanisms. In this study, thermogravimetric analysis was first employed to investigate the kinetics of the TiO 2 reaction. Arrhenius-based kinetic modeling revealed that these reactions are primarily controlled by solid-state diffusion, and N 2 directly nitrides titanium oxides to TiN, and the activation energy decreases with increasing N 2 content. In contrast, H 2 lowers the activation energy of the reaction and promotes the reduction of TiO 2 to lower-valence oxides. Then, the carbothermic reduction of TiO 2 -bearing slags was investigated. Chemical composition analysis, XRD, and EPMA-WDS mapping demonstrated pronounced atmosphere-dependent variations in the formation of TiC/N phases. In CO–N 2 atmospheres, Ti(C,N) content decreases with increasing CO content and Ti(C,N) tends to agglomerate. With pure CO, only a few, sparsely dispersed TiC particles were detected. Whereas in CO–H 2 atmospheres, increasing the H 2 concentration markedly enhanced TiC formation, yielding uniformly dispersed particles with slight clustering. Therefore, the overall atmosphere effect on the amount of TiC/N formation follows the order: 100 pct CO < 80 pct CO–20 pct H 2 < 80 pct CO–20 pct N 2 < 60 pct CO–40 pct H 2 < 60 pct CO–40 pct N 2 < 30 pct CO–70 pct N 2 atmosphere (conventional blast furnace atmosphere). Layered nanoporous Ti/TiO 2 /Ni–W–B electrode is prepared through electrochemical anodization and electrodeposition for electrocatalytic reduction of coal. Extensive characterizations of the layered nanoporous Ti/TiO 2 /Ni–W–B electrode have been performed using techniques including scanning electronic microscopy, X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller and linear sweep voltammetry. The results indicate that the electrode, which presents layered nanoporous surface network, exhibits high activity for the reduction of coal. In an organic electrolyte system, a liquefaction yield of 51.8% is obtained after electrolysis of coal on the prepared electrode for 24 h at −1.7 V. The electroreduction mechanism of coal is also investigated. IR and 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance results show that active hydrogen (H ∗ ) reacts with functional groups in the coal such as C O, C O and C C, leading to the reduction of unsaturated bonds and the breakage of bridge bonds and part of aromatic rings during the electroreduction of coal.

Fe-Mn based layered transition metal oxides are compelling candidates for sodium-ion cathodes owing to their high specific capacity and cost-effectiveness. However, their practical application is hampered by inherent challenges including the Jahn-Teller effect, lattice oxygen loss, transition metal dissolution. In this study, Al/Ti co-doped Na0.67Fe0.4Mn0.4Al0.1Ti0.1O2 (FM-AT) cathode is proposed and prepared. The introduction of Al/Ti, creating strong Al-O and Ti-O bonds, effectively stabilizes the lattice oxygen and elevates the reversibility of anionic redox reactions. Furthermore, the stability of the transition metal layer is effectively enhanced, suppressing transition metal dissolution and the P2-OP4 phase transition associated with TMO2 layer slippage at deep charge states. The FM-AT demonstrates excellent cycling stability, with a capacity of 137.1 mAh g-1 under 20 mA g-1 and a capacity retention of 85.5% after 50 cycles (55.7% for the pristine FM cathode). Even after 200 cycles under 200 mA g-1, a capacity retention of 72.1% is achieved (versus 20.9% for the FM). This work offers a novel method for enhancing the structural stability of iron-manganese based electrode and designing cost-effective, high-performance sodium ion cathodes.

EuTiO 3 exhibits various interesting physical properties, including magnetocaloric effect, quantum paraelectricity, magnetoelectricity, and multiferroic properties, thus attracting a broad range of attention from the researchers. The delicate balance between ferromagnetic coupling and antiferromagnetic interactions offers the feasibility of modulating the magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect for this perovskite. Herein, a range of Eu(Ti,B)O 3 perovskites were prepared by substituting titanium with different amounts of boron. A comprehensive investigation on their structure, magnetism, magnetocaloric effect, and critical behavior was performed. All the compounds are confirmed to be crystallized in a single cubic perovskite structure with space symmetry of Pm 3 m , with the introduced boron uniformly distributed in the compounds. The transition temperatures are determined to be 6.0, 6.5, 5.0, and 5.0 K for EuTi 0.9375 B 0.0625 O 3 , EuTi 0.875 B 0.125 O 3 , EuTi 0.8125 B 0.1875 O 3 , and EuTi 0.75 B 0.25 O 3 , respectively. The results of both magnetic measurements and critical behavior analysis suggest that appropriate substitution of boron promotes the magnetic transition from AFM to FM in Eu(Ti,B)O 3 . In addition, significantly enhanced low-field magnetocaloric effects were observed in these perovskites. Under field changes of 0–1 and 0–2 T, the values of - Δ S M max are 14.7 and 26.4 J·kg −1 ·K −1 for EuTi 0.8125 B 0.1875 O 3 , 15.2 and 27.4 J·kg −1 ·K −1 for EuTi 0.75 B 0.25 O 3 , respectively.

In this study, porous Ti/Magnéli Ti 4 O 7 nanotube arrays (NTA) was fabricated to pretreat antibiotic wastewater. Characterization of the Ti 4 O 7 -NTA illustrated that highly ordered NTA was successfully generated on the porous Ti substrate, which enlarged the specific surface area by 1.67 times. The Ti 4 O 7 -NTA has a high oxygen evolution potential (2.60 V) as well as low interfacial charge transfer resistance (4.479 Ω cm −2 ). Ceftriaxone sodium (CRO) was completely removed from raw antibiotic wastewater after 3 h of treatment by the Ti 4 O 7 -NTA, under optimal operation conditions. The biodegradability and toxicity of the wastewater were also significantly enhanced and reduced, as the BOD/COD and EC 50,48h values were increased to 0.48 and 57.62 % ± 2.16 %, respectively. The possible degradation pathway of CRO was proposed by LC‒MS. Cathodic polarization was proven to be an effective way to ensure the long-term durability of the Ti 4 O 7 -NTA.

TiB 2 reinforced Ti(C,N)-based cermet was produced by the reaction spark plasma sintering of Co, Ni, Ti, C, BN, Mo 2 C, WC, and TaC mixtures. To understand the mechanism of reaction sintering, systematic investigation on the microstructure evolution and displacement variation rule was carried out. In addition, the influence of C/BN molar ratio on the microstructures and performances of cermet was investigated. Except an initially increased pressure, three densification patterns were found. The first method was the Co Ti, Ti Ni, and Ti-BN diffusion reactions, resulting in a shrinkage of 22.06%. The second pattern was the viscous flow and dissolution-reprecipitation, which corresponded to the synthesis of Ti(C,N) and TiB 2 . In this process, the shrinkage ratio was increased by 35.62%. The final densification mainly originated from the viscous flow of metallic binder. It contributed to the transformation of macrovoids into microvoids, and an increased displacement of 30.10%. With the increasing of C/BN ratio, more C atoms diffused into Ti(C,N). Furthermore, core/rim structure-Ti(C,N) and coreless (W,Mo,Ta,Ti)(C,N) were fabricated. However, the microvoids in cermets enhanced. As a result, the hardness and fracture toughness first increased and then decreased. Results from this work are helpful to understand the reaction spark plasma sintering technique, and can enrich the preparation method of cermet.

Degradation of refractory organics has been limited by their low mass-transport rates in conventional flow-by operated electrochemical reactors. This study explores for the first time the development of porous titanium (Ti)-based metal oxide anodic membrane for efficient flow-through degradation of recalcitrant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). For this purpose, a duplexed Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -Ce anodic membrane was successfully prepared by sol-gel and electrodeposition methods. Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -Ce exhibited improved mechanical and electrochemical stability, larger electrochemical surface area, higher oxygen evolution potential and lower charge transfer resistance, as compared to its mono-layered rival (Ti/SnO 2 -Sb). The switching from flow-by to flow-through operation resulted in an increased mass transfer rate constant and narrowed diffusion layer thickness of Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -Ce. In the flow-through mode, Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -Ce enabled the complete TBBPA removal at a relatively low electric energy (0.11 kWh m −3 ). The TBBPA removal was ascribed to the direct anodic oxidation and indirect anodic oxidation incurred by absorbed HO , free HO and 1 O 2 . The intermediate products, which were arisen from the attack of TBBPA by these reactive species, were identified. We further estimated their acute toxicities and bioaccumulation factors. This research proposed a robust electrochemical filtration approach for detoxification of TBBPA-contaminated water.
