Vat photopolymerization (VPP) has recently been applied to fabricate silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) ceramics. To overcome limitations in Si 3 N 4 slurry curing performance, a multi-functional modification strategy utilizing the metal-organic framework MIL-53(Al) was proposed. The introduction of MIL-53(Al) simultaneously affects slurry photocuring performance and ceramic microstructural regulation. MIL-53(Al) serves as a fluorescent active filler acting as an in situ photon source under ultraviolet irradiation, thereby enhancing the curing depth by an average of 17.5 µm. During the debinding process, the decomposition of MIL-53(Al) leaves a pore structure and aluminum oxide that can assist sintering, facilitating phase transformation and forming a well-interlocked β-Si 3 N 4 microstructure. The sintered Si 3 N 4 ceramic exhibited a flexural strength of 269.2 ± 12.6 MPa, and a fracture toughness of 3.54 ± 0.21 MPa·m 1/2 at a porosity of 23.9%. This study demonstrates the multi-functional role of MOF-based additives for both enhancing slurry printability and tailoring ceramic microstructure in fabrication of porous Si 3 N 4 ceramics via VPP.

Ti–Al matrix alloy reinforced with a high content of boron was fabricated by using a high-temperature alloying method and powder metallurgy technique (P/M). The preparation method of Ti–Al–B alloying powder was put forward. Phases, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the alloys were investigated. Wear and friction performance were studied by using a ball-on-disc tribotester sliding against a Si3N4ceramic ball from 23 °C (room temperature) to 900 °C. The Ti–Al–B alloy had a higher specific strength than that of the Ti–Al alloy. The boron element obviously enhanced the wear resistance and mechanical properties of the alloys because of the formation of borides (TiB2and AlB2) in matrices and the stable oxide film on the wear tracks. Friction coefficients of alloys were independent of the boron element. The wear mechanisms of the alloys transferred from fatigue wear to oxidative wear with the increase in temperature.

Electrodepositing Al coatings on W 90 Cu 10 foils in AlCl 3 + LiAlH 4 Tetrahydrofuran–benzene electrolyte was reported in this work. Effects of variations in molar ratios of AlCl 3 /LiAlH 4 , current density and plating time on surface morphology and crystal orientations were studied, and the optimal values of three parameters were preliminarily gained. Results showed that Al coatings displayed dense and cone-shaped micro-crystallites, and the particle size of coatings increased obviously with increasing current density or decreasing the proportion of AlCl 3 . It was indicated that all of the electrodeposits exhibited a strong preferred (111), (220) crystal orientation, and the (220) crystal orientation became strong along with electroplating time and current density, but weak with the proportion of AlCl 3 in baths. On the contrary, the changes of the (111) orientation exhibited an opposite trend.

Al-based batteries have been particularly attractive for integration with bioelectrolytes such as sweat and tears, enabling portable and biocompatible power sources. However, their practical applications are severely constrained by sluggish mass transfer and reaction kinetics at the catalytic electrode interface. In this study, we present a compact ultrasound-catalyzed Al-based bioelectrolyte battery (ABBB) to overcome this limitation, for which the catalysis mechanisms arise from the synergistic effects of acoustic pressure, acoustic streaming, and ultrasonic stirring for jointly accelerating interfacial mass transport and electrode reaction kinetics. Experimental results show that the ultrasonic liquid-phase catalysis can dramatically improve battery discharge performance, with peak power enhanced by higher than one order of amplitude (10-fold). Notably, when the artificial sweat mimicking human sweat composition is employed as the electrolyte, the peak power can be enhanced by approximately 5-fold under the ultrasonic excitation, highlighting its feasibility for practical biofluid-powered systems. This work establishes a novel physical-field catalytic strategy for boosting ABBB performance and provides a solid foundation for their applications in self-powered biosensors, wearable medical devices, and green electronic technologies.

Applying protective coatings to the surface of stone heritage is one of the most common methods for its preservation. To enhance the weathering resistance of the limestone heritages, MIL-53@FS, a hydrophobic metal-organic framework (MOF) composite, was prepared through fluorosilane modification of MIL-53-OH synthesized via a solvothermal method. Characterization analyses were conducted using SEM, XRD, TGA, and FTIR techniques. The results indicated that MIL-53@FS maintained its well-ordered framework structure and certain porosity, while forming a continuous and uniform hydrophobic coating, leading to a significant increase of water contact angle to 127.14° and enhanced thermal stability. It exhibited excellent corrosion resistance, anti-icing performance, and color compatibility in the application tests, holding a promising outlook for protecting limestone-based heritages.

A three-dimensionally ordered macroporous Fe2O3/Al nanothermite membrane has been prepared with a polystyrene spheres template. The nanothermite, with an enhanced interfacial contact between fuel and oxidizer, outputs 2.83 kJ g–1 of energy. This is significantly more than has been reported before. This approach, fully compatible with MEMS technology, provides an efficient way to produce micrometer thick three-dimensionally ordered nanostructured thermite films with overall spatial uniformity. These exciting achievements will greatly facilitate potential for the future development of applications of nanothermites.

To improve the pressure output ability of nanothermites to meet the needs in many fields, with the more volatile advantage of metal fluoride products (AlF3), this paper proposes the scheme of nanothermites (Al/CuF2). The energy release process of Al/CuF2 with different equivalent ratios under slow and fast heating rates has been studied. Under the slow heating rates, it was found that the equivalent ratio (Φ) has a significant influence on the energy release process. When Φ ≤ 1, the product is dominated by Cu. With the increase of the equivalent ratio, Al2Cu gradually appeared in the product, indicating that the increase of Al powder contributed to the enhancement of the alloy reaction. On the other hand, to further investigate the actual application of the Al/CuF2 mixture, combustion experiments in a closed container and in open air were carried out and compared with those of Al/CuO. In accordance with our design concept, AlCuF2 shows more excellent gas release ability. Al/CuF2 (Φ = 3) has the most excellent pressure output capacity (2.67 MPa), which increases by 107% compared to 1.29 MPa (Al/CuO). In addition, Al/CuF2 displays more excellent ignition performances in terms of shorter delay time and less ignition energy. Therefore, Al/CuF2 composite particles, as a novel nanothermite design, are expected to be widely used in the gas generator, micropropulsion, and other military and civilian fields.

Metastable intermixed composites (MICs) have received increasing attention in the field of energy materials in recent years due to their high energy and good combustion performance. The exploration of ways of improving their potential release of heat is still underway. In this study, Al–CuO/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites were prepared using a combination of the self-assembly and in-suit synthesis methods. The formulation and experimental conditions were also optimized to maximize the exothermic heat. The DSC analysis shows that the addition of the GO made a significant contribution to the exothermic effect of the nanothermite. Compared with the Al–CuO nanothermite, the exothermic heat of the Al–CuO/GO nanocomposites increase by 306.9–1166.3 J/g and the peak temperatures dropped by 7.9–26.4 °C with different GO content. The reaction mechanism of the nanocomposite was investigated using a DSC and thermal reaction kinetics analysis. It was found that, compared with typical thermite reactions, the addition of the GO changed the reaction pathway of the nanothermite. The reaction products included CuAlO2. Moreover, the combustion properties of nanocomposite were investigated. This work reveals the unique mechanism of GO in thermite reactions, which may promote the application of carbon materials in nanothermite. Keywords:graphene oxide;metastable intermixed composites (MICs);nanothermite;thermokinetics;combustion

The preparation and application of inorganic-organic hybrid nanomaterials is a hot research topic at present. Herein, we combined Zn-Al layered double hydroxide (Zn-Al LDH) with mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) to prepare two integrated Zn-Al LDH@MPDA nanocomposites under the modification of linker (1,3,5-benzoyl chloride (TMC) or (3-aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane (APTMS)), namely Composite T (modified by TMC) and Composite A (modified by APTMS), which were then evaluated for dye adsorption, adriamycin hydrochloride (DOX) loading, photothermal conversion experiment, and antibacterial test. The characterization results showed that MPDA can be successfully loaded on Zn-Al LDH with the modification of the two linkers, but the specific surface area, pore-volume, average pore size, and electronegativity of Composite T were all higher than those of composite A, thus being more advantageous in adsorption of cationic dye. Composite T possesses a high loading capacity for DOX, whose loading efficiency and encapsulation efficiency are 478.3% and 95.7%, respectively. In addition, Composite T also shows a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 27.9%. Furthermore, Composite T exhibits excellent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Staphylococus aureus ( S. aureus ). Therefore, the designed Zn-Al LDH@MPDA nanocomposites would be a promising candidate for a myriad of industrial application fields.

A surge of interest has been attracted by Li 1.6 Mn 1.6 O 4 -type adsorbent for collecting lithium resources from salt-lake brines due to its excellent selectivity, high theorical adsorption capacity up to 72. 3 mg g −1 and low cost. However, its large-scale practical application is limited because of its bone element Mn dissolution during the cycled desorption process. Herein, F and Al co-modifying technique, an efficient method for stabilizing its spinel structure or forming protective coating, was employed to improve the application performances of Li 1.6 Mn 1.6 O 4 -type adsorbent prepared by sol–gel method. Based on the various characterization results, the co-modification not only leads to the formation of fluoride-rich coating and the substitution of Mn 3+ by Al 3+ , but also generates the active adsorbents with abundant nano-islands. DFT calculations revealed that the coating layer is indeed AlF 3 rather than LiF. In addition, in-situ high-temperature XRD tests demonstrates that the co-modification can significantly enhance the heat resistance and structural stability of the material. As-prepared adsorbent exhibits greatly improved Li adsorption capacity (increased from 28.5 to 33.7 mg g −1 ), lower Mn loss rate (decreased from 2.1 to 1.8%), enhanced cycling stability and good adsorption selectivity in the Qarhan brine containing Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , which is very significant and important for effectively removing lithium from low-grade brines.

In this study, we investigated the thermodynamics and kinetics of the aluminothermic reduction of ZrO 2 . The results of thermal analysis and isothermal heat treatment showed that the aluminothermic reduction of ZrO 2 was an exothermic reaction that occurred at . 958.8°C. The aluminothermic reduction process does not produce metal Zr, but when the stoichiometric number of Al:ZrO 2 was 13:3, Al 3 Zr and Al 2 O 3 can be obtained by the reaction. The activation energy of the reaction was 1589.89 kJ/mol, and the reaction order was 1.90. The aluminothermic reduction process and mechanism of ZrO 2 in the presence of potassium cryolite as the molten salt medium was also studied. The results showed that ZrO 2 dissolved in potassium cryolite molten salt and participated in the reduction reaction in the form of Zr–O–F complex ions, while the by–product Al 2 O 3 also dissolved in potassium cryolite to further promote the formation of the Al–Zr alloy.

Here, we successfully prepared Tb 3+ -activated borogermanate glass by the traditional melt-quenching method. The optical and scintillating properties were investigated by using photoluminescence , transmission spectra, luminescence decay curves and X-ray excited luminescence. High content of Gd 2 O 3 was added into borogermanate glass to improve the density of glass (about 5.52 g/cm 3 ), and thus to enhance the radiation stopping power. Al powder was introduced into the composition as reducing agent. Due to incorporation of Al powder, the internal quantum efficiency of glass increases from 18.8% to 56.3%. Meanwhile, the integrated intensity of X-ray excited luminescence of glass promotes from 29.8% to 46.6% compared to Bi 4 Ge 3 O 12 scintillating crystal. All above results declare that Al powder as reducing agent can strengthen the optical and scintillating properties of Tb 3+ -activated borogermanate glass.
