Ginkgolide B is in great demand worldwide on account of its extensive and excellent pharmacological effects, however, it is difficult to separate and purify ginkgolide B. In this study, ginkgolide B molecularly imprinted polymers were prepared by combining software simulation and molecular imprinting technique, and its characterization and adsorption performed evaluation were performed to understand the adsorption behavior of the polymers. The adsorption equilibrium concentration of molecularly imprinted polymers was 0.70 mg/mL, and the adsorption equilibrium time was 4 h. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm of the polymers for ginkgolide B fitted well with the Langmuir model, and the adsorption kinetics was in line with the pseudo-second-order kinetics. In contrast, the adsorption capacity of molecularly imprinted polymers on ginkgolide B was higher than that of non-molecular imprinted polymers, with better selectivity and better adsorption after repeated use for six times. The application experiments showed that molecular imprinted polymers have a good adsorption effect in low purity samples. Therefore, the polymers reported herein can be expected to apply in the adsorption and separation of ginkgolide B samples.

Aluminum (Al) is one of the most widely used metal fuels in the fields of automotive airbags, solid propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics. Unfortunately, it is hard to meet further demand of practical applications owing to the comparatively low calorific value. Herein, graphite fluoride (CF) and boron (B) are employed to construct Al/B/CF microspheres through self-assembly in emulsion to obtain high energy density and significantly improved combustion performance resulted from synergistic reaction between Al and B reacted with fluorine. The Al/B/CF microspheres with pore structure have uniformly distribution of components and the average size range from 60 to 600 μm. Based on the experimental results, CF content and Al/B mass ratio have significant important effects on the combustion behavior and pressure output. The highest burning rate (301.74 m/s) and pressurization rate (77.78 MPa/s) are obtained for the Al/B/CF microspheres with CF content of 50 wt% and Al/B mass ratio of 3 to 1, respectively. Furthermore, the combustion reaction process of single Al/B/CF microsphere are studied for the first time to understand the synergistic reaction between high reactivity of Al and high energy of B reacted with fluorine. This work demonstrates that introducing CF and B to construct Al/B/CF microspheres is an efficient strategy to achieve high energy density and reactivity for the practical applications.

Two dimensional (2D) CuTCPP/B–TiO 2 composites were successfully synthesized by addition of B–TiO 2 NPs into the system for preparation of 2D CuTCPP nanosheets under hydrothermal condition. 2D CuTCPP nanosheets with large specific surface area can not only act as supportor to decrease the aggregation of B–TiO 2 and improve the adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB) but also provide more transfer pathway to effectively facilitate interfacial charge transfer and separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, thus leading to a superior efficiency for photodegradation of MB. The photocatalytic degradation rate constant of 2D CuTCPP/B–TiO 2 composites is 0.0486 min −1 , which is about 15.2, 5.92 and 4.23 times that of P25 (k = 0.0032 min −1 ), 2D CuTCPP nanosheets ((k = 0.0082 min −1 ) and B–TiO 2 NPs (k = 0.0115 min −1 ). This study demonstrates that the combination of B–TiO 2 NPs and 2D CuTCPP is a viable strategy to improve the photocatalytic efficiency for degradation of MB.

A novel “off-on” terminated polyurethane based on the rhodamine B modified dye RhEA was constructed with the polyethylene glycol (PEG) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as soft segment, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as hard segment. The RhEA terminated polyurethane turned to red from colorless after 254 nm UV induction accompanying transformation of RhEA from a twisted spirolactam to a planarized ring-opened amide. The intensity of absorbance enhanced as UV induction time increased. And the color of the RhEA terminated polyurethane changed from red turned to light red (45 °C) and colorless (65 °C), reversibly. The RhEA terminated polyurethane showed good thermal stability. The thermochromic cotton fabric was obtained with RhEA terminated polyurethane via flat screen printing and it turned to red from white after 254 nm UV induction. The K/S values decreased nearly 65.8% at 45 °C compared to 40 °C suggesting the thermochromic cotton became light red and it turned to white completely at 65 °C. The lactam ring was still retained during the printing process and the thermochromic cotton fabric possessed thermochromic behavior after UV induction. They can be a promising candidate for developing a flexible sensor to monitor environmental changes.

Schwertmannite is a ferric oxyhydroxy-sulfate mineral, which is commonly found in acid sulfate systems. In this study, the liberation of chromium from Cr(VI)-substituted schwertmannite in the presence of the siderophore desferrioxamine B was studied. In addition, mineral transformation was examined using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Based on solid phase analyses, the transformation of schwertmannite incubated at pH 6.5 in the presence of 100 mg/L desferrioxamine B proceeded through a ligand-reductive induced pathway that released dissolved sulfate, Fe(III), and Cr(III), and generated goethite . Results of XAFS showed that CrO 4 2− substituted for SO 4 2− in the schwertmannite framework. Kinetic analysis using the Kabai and shrinking core models showed that Cr suppressed the transformation of schwertmannite into goethite and the liberation of Cr was controlled by diffusion through the secondary mineral's layer of dissolution. The information provided in this study will be useful in predicting the effects of the interaction between dissolved organic matter and minerals on the mobilization of Cr in acid mine drainage systems.

Colored waterborne polyurethanes have been widely used in paintings, leathers, textiles, and coatings. Here, a series of black waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) with different ratios of black dye, Sudan Black B (SDB), were prepared by step-growth polymerization. WPU emulsions as obtained exhibit low particle sizes and remarkable storage stability at the same time. At different dye loadings, essential structural, statistical and thermal properties are characterized. FTIR (fourier transform infrared) spectra indicate that SDB is covalently linked into waterborne polyurethane chains. All of the WPUs with covalently linked SDB show better color fastness and resistance of thermal migration than those with SDB mixed physically. Besides, WPUs incorporated SDB covalently with different polymeric diols, polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG), polypropylene glycol (PPG), poly-1, 4-butylene adipate glycol (PBA) and polycaprolactone glycol (PCL), were prepared to obtain different properties to cater to a variety of practical demands. By a spraying method, the black WPUs can be directly used as metal coatings without complex dyeing process by simply mixing coating additive and other waterborne resins, which exhibit excellent coating performance. Keywords:Sudan black B;waterborne polyurethane;polymeric dye;metal coatings

B and Y doped titanium dioxides (TiO 2 ) photocatalysts were synthesized by a sol-gel method followed by calcination . It is observed that the photodegradation efficiency of B and Y co-doped TiO 2 is twice that of undoped sample. To explore the underlining mechanism, x-ray diffraction, Raman, scanning electron microscope, x-ray photoemission, and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy measurements have been carried out to investigate the effect of B and Y doping on the structural, electronic, and optical properties of titania. Experimental observations revealed that in TiO 2 lattice Y 3+ ions tend to replace Ti 4+ ions while B 3+ ions occupy the interstitial sites. The incorporation of interstitial boron dopants will create oxygen vacancies ( Ov ·· ) and reduce Ti 4+ to Ti 3+ to form [ Ov ·· -Ti 3+ ] + complex, which traps the carriers and prolongs carrier lifetime. Moreover, Y 3+ ions can trap the photo-excited electrons to form Y 2+ ions, which will then react with the absorbed O 2 on TiO 2 surface to generate reactive species. In addition, all the doped samples have smaller crystallite sizes . The formation of B interstitials and Y substitutes, and increased surface-to-volume ratio are all beneficial to improve photocatalytic activity.

The rhodamine B-attapulgite/polypyrrole (RhB-ATP/PPy) composites have been prepared by the in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method based on the self-assembly of pyrrole on the surface of the rhodamine B modified ATP (RhB-ATP). The morphologies of the RhB-ATP/PPy composites prepared with different feeding ratio of pyrrole and the RhB-ATP were compared with transmission electron microscope (TEM) technique. The electrochemical behaviors of the RhB-ATP/PPy composites were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic charge–discharge. The results indicated that RhB did effectively improve the electrochemical performance and cycling stability of the RhB-ATP/PPy composite electrode, although RhB showed no obvious effect on the morphology of the nanocomposites . It was attributed to the fact that RhB and ATP provided a more convenient pathway to the charge carrier and RhB made the combination of the ATP and PPy much stronger. The maximum discharge capacity of the composites electrode achieved 587 F g −1 and kept 76% of its original specific capacitance after 500 cycles.

An aptamer-based microcantilever array sensor for detection of fumonisin B-1 (FB1) was developed. The sensing cantilevers in the array were functionalized with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of thiolated FB1-specific aptamer, while the reference cantilevers were modified with 6-mercapto-1-hexanol SAMs to eliminate interference from the environment by detecting the deflection induced by nonspecific interactions. This differential deflection amplitude between sensing and reference cantilevers shows a linearity relation with the concentration of FB1 in the range from 0.1 to 40 μg mL−1, with a limit of detection of 33 ng mL−1 (S/N = 3). The sensor exhibits good specificity over ochratoxin A (OTA) and deoxynivalenol (DON). This biosensor provides a promising approach to detect FB1 in food and agricultural products.

A series of four-arm star block copolymers poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly( d,l -lactide) (PEG-PDLLA) with different hydrophobic length were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of lactide and characterized using 1 H NMR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). These copolymers could self-assemble in aqueous solution to form the vesicle structure with controlled size and morphologies. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and DLS show the polymersomes are spherical with diameter of 70∼500 nm. The polymersomes made by direct hydration of copolymer thin films in water exhibit the controllable ability of encapsulating hemoglobin under mild condition. The hemoglobin content in the polymersomes could reach to 35 wt %. More importantly, the encapsulated hemoglobin keeps its own bioactivity and is capable of binding oxygen. This hemoglobin-encapsulated four-arm PEG-PLA polymersomes could have the potential to be applied as an artificial oxygen carrier for transfusion. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The demand for water pollution control accelerated the development of environment-friendly technologies, e.g., photocatalysis, for resolving the pollution issue efficiently. Wide bandgap rare earth oxide semiconductors are potential photocatalysts with low toxicity for the environment, but the luminescence of rare earth ions and narrow light absorption band restrict their photocatalytic degradation efficiency. In this study, we synthesized a composite structure consisting of Eu 2 O 3 nanoparticles (NPs) and carbon-nanospheres (CNSs) by annealing both monomers in argon atmosphere together. The photocatalytic degradation performance of the composites with different mass ratios were investigated by utilizing rhodamine B (RhB) dye as the target organic pollutant. The results show that the combination with CNSs significantly improved the photocatalytic performance of Eu 2 O 3 , and the composite's highest removal efficiency reached up to 55 % within 60 min, which is competitive to those for other rare earth oxides. The improved photocatalytic degradation capacity for the composite structure was attributed to the luminescence suppression of Eu 3+ and the increased visible-light absorption by CNSs. Our research sheds light on the possible routes for enhancing the photocatalytic degradation capability of rare earth oxides in the environment pollution abatement.

Palladium (Pd)-based catalysts are widely used for CO 2 hydrogenation reactions due to the capability to activate H 2 , which enhances the overall CO 2 conversion. However, most of the current Pd catalysts reported show high CO 2 conversion only at higher temperature, and the exploration of efficient catalyst enabling low temperature conversion (180–300 °C) is of importance. In this study, a series of Pd-B/ZnAl 2 O 4 catalysts were synthesized via in-situ doping, resulting in the Pd crystal transformation induced from crystal to amorphous. The catalytic hydrogenation activity of the amorphous Pd-B catalyst reaches its zenith at a Pd-B mole ratio of 1:2, accompanied by the superior catalysis stability in CO 2 hydrogenation. Various characterization techniques, including XRD, CO-DRIFTS, H 2 -TPR, XPS and TEM, were used to investigate the properties of the Pd-B/ZnAl 2 O 4 catalyst. The results showed that the Pd-B/ZnAl 2 O 4 catalyst exhibited higher dispersion and better CO 2 conversion efficiency compared to unmodified Pd catalyst. Additionally, the methanol space–time yields are nearly doubled when the B decoration is employed. At 280 °C, CO 2 conversion was improved and methanol selectivity remained at ~ 65%. This study provides valuable insights into the design and optimization of Pd-B based catalysts for CO 2 hydrogenation at low temperatures. Graphical Abstract
