Zearalenone (ZEN), a secondary metabolite mycotoxin primarily synthesized by Fusarium species and prevalent in cereal grains, exerts estrogenic effects that could induce reproductive toxicity and teratogenic outcomes. To enhance the precision of ZEN detection, we have developed an innovative photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptamer-based sensor employing in situ growth silver sulfide (Ag 2 S) quantum dots-sensitized graphitic carbon nitride/bismuth oxybromide (g-C 3 N 4 /BiOBr) heterojunction. The g-C 3 N 4 /BiOBr composite exhibits robust structural stability and straightforward synthesis. In situ growth Ag 2 S quantum dots could significantly amplify the signal, thereby elevating the sensor’s sensitivity. The sensor utilizes ZEN-specific aptamers for target-specific binding, ensuring high selectivity. Within the concentration range of 0.001 to 100 ng·mL −1 , the photocurrent response demonstrated a significant linear correlation with the logarithmic scale of ZEN concentration, with a detection limit reaching 0.122 pg·mL −1 . This PEC aptamer sensor exhibits excellent stability, reproducibility, and selectivity, which is expected to be used as an effective analytical tool for ZEN detection in practical applications.

Coupling O 2 reduction and selective organic oxidation for photocatalytic coproduction of H 2 O 2 and value-added organic compounds (e.g., benzaldehyde) represents a dual-functional strategy to maximize solar energy utilization and economic benefits in chemical manufacturing. Employing water/organic biphasic systems for such reactions offers a sustainable solution to address the challenges inherent in conventional single-phase systems, such as energy-intensive product separation and uncontrolled secondary reactions. Herein, we rationally designed and synthesized an amphiphilic BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst (labeled as BOB/PCN-A) composed of hierarchically structured BiOBr and porous g-C 3 N 4 , which can stably localize at the water/toluene biphasic interface. This unique feature enables the formation of a quasi-Pickering emulsion under continuous stirring during the photocatalytic process, facilitating the simultaneous production and in situ separation of H 2 O 2 in the aqueous phase and benzaldehyde in the organic phase. The S-scheme heterojunction enhances visible-light absorption, promotes efficient electron-hole separation, and preserves the strong redox potential of photogenerated charge carriers. Under simulated sunlight, the optimized BOB/PCN-A photocatalyst achieves remarkable production rates of 2.29 mmol g −1 h −1 for benzaldehyde and 1.77 mmol g −1 h −1 for H 2 O 2 , with a 100 % selectivity toward benzaldehyde. This study showcases a green photocatalytic system that integrates synthesis and separation processes, offering promising implications for sustainable solar-driven chemical manufacturing.

The establishment of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect and an internal electric field (IEF) has been recognized as an effective technique for optimizing pollutant treatment in aquatic environments. Herein, we synthesized a novel 2D/2D Pt@BiOBr/Bi 2 WO 6 S-scheme heterojunction that establishes robust interfacial connections to enhance electron transport through minimized pathways, while simultaneously increasing active site availability. Subsequently, noble metal Pt was employed to modify the BiOBr/Bi 2 WO 6 composite material, thereby inducing SPR and broadening the light absorption range. Impressively, the optimized Pt@BiOBr/Bi 2 WO 6 demonstrates a significantly enhanced degradation efficiency for organic pollutants, primarily due to the synergistic effects of SPR and IEF. The degradation rate of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCL) through the ternary heterojunction 2-PBB can achieve 100 % within 30 min under 500 W of visible light irradiation, showcasing impressive cyclic stability. Furthermore, the developed photocatalyst also demonstrated remarkable degradation efficiency for organic dyes such as Rhodamine B (RhB) and methyl orange (MO). This work demonstrates an original approach to the fabrication of Pt-modified S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts with high effectiveness.

Photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) provides a new method to degrade organic pollutants and recover their energy simultaneously. In this work, a novel flower-like hierarchical photoanode (PANI/Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 /BiOBr/Ti) was synthesized by solvothermal method and assembled with Cu cathode to form a PFC for rhodamine B (RhB) degradation and simultaneous power generation. The crystal structure, chemical composition, and morphology of the photoanode was characterized by a variety of analysis techniques. The photocatalytic activity of the ternary hierarchical composite photoanode was superior to that of single and binary composite photoanodes. Its maximum photocurrent density, maximum power density, degradation rate and FF were 0.241 mA·cm −2 , 21.52μW·cm −2 , 92.97 % (90 min) and 0.18, respectively. In addition, it still maintains high photocatalytic activity after five consecutive uses. Based on the analysis results of transient photocurrent (i-t), EIS, DRS spectrum, M-S curve and free radical capture experiments, the improvement of photocatalytic performance of PANI/Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 /BiOBr/Ti photoanode is attributed to the formation of dual Z-scheme heterojunction between PANI and BiOBr and between Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 and BiOBr, which realizes the rapid separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs, and retains the strong oxidation of holes in VB of BiOBr and the strong reduction of electrons in LUMO of PANI and CB of Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 . This study provides a new research idea for the design and construction of high efficiency photoanode in PFC system.

A Bi-rich BiOBr/BC@AuNP nanocomposite was developed as an efficient electrochemical sensing platform. • ML − assisted central composite design enabled precise optimization of MIP conditions. • MIP electrochemical sensor for trace detection of sulfachlorpyrazine sodium in food. A highly sensitive and selective molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor was developed for the detection of sulfachloropyrazine sodium (SPZ), assisted by machine learening (ML) optimization. The sensing platform was fabricated using novel Bi-rich BiOBr/BC@AuNPs nanocomposite, where the synergistic combination of Bi-rich BiOBr, conductive biochar, and gold nanoparticles markedly enhanced electron transfer and provided abundant electroactive sites. Critical imprinting parameters, including the functional monomer-to-template ratio, electropolymerization cycles, elution time, and incubation time, were optimized using a central composite design coupled with ML algorithms like support vector regression. Under optimal conditions, the sensor displayed a wide linear range of 0.031–61.34 ng/mL, with a low detection limit of 0.0025 ng/mL and a quantification limit of 0.0077 ng/mL. The sensor exhibited excellent selectivity, effectively distinguishing SPZ from structurally analogous sulfonamide. Successful application to spiked chicken, milk, and honey samples yielded satisfactory recoveries and reproducibility, confirming its strong potential for practical food safety.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has increased the necessity of medical masks, and to date, many waste masks have been discarded without being reprocessed, causing environmental harm. PET, a commonly used plastic product, presents certain hurdles to its natural degradation. In this work, waste medical masks were converted into carbon quantum dots (MCQDs) with blue fluorescence emissions using a simple solvothermal process and then doped into BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 composite material to construct S-scheme heterojunctions for PET degradation. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that an interfacial electric field (IEF) was formed between g-C 3 N 4 and BiOBr. The findings demonstrate that the MCQDs, as a cocatalyst for electron transmission and storage, encourage S-scheme heterojunctions to further separate photogenerated electrons and holes. Levofloxacin (LEV) was used as a molecular probe to visually compare the catalytic activities of various catalysts. These catalysts with different photocatalytic activity were then used to degrade PET. The findings demonstrate that the degradation efficiency of PET over the BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 /3MCQDs in seawater is 39.88 ± 1.04% (weight loss), which is 1.37 times higher than that of BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 , and also better than those reported in most of the literature. Free radical capture tests, electrostatic field orbital trap high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HRGC-MS), and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) experiments uncovered and briefly revealed the key products in the photocatalytic degradation of PET, as well as the relevant mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of PET. The degradation products are expected to become precursors for the further production of polymers and medicines, etc . This study offers fresh perspectives for the creation of innovative photocatalysts for the ecologically benign breakdown of PET, which helps to further lessen environmental damage caused by microplastics (MPs) and enhance resource sustainability.

In this research, MIL-53(Fe)@BiOBr/TCN/Ti photoanode was created using the secondary silica sol drop coating method, and assembled with Cu cathode to form photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) to degrade rhodamine B and generate electricity. The resulting PFC has high visible light response and photocatalytic activity . It has a rhodamine B degradation efficiency of 92.19%, a maximum power density of 6.2 μW cm −2 , and a maximum photocurrent density of 0.11 mA cm −2 . Its strong photocatalysis capabilities benefits from the wider light absorption range and lower charge carrier recombination rate of the photoanode. The double Z-scheme heterojunction formed among BiOBr, MIL-53(Fe) and TCN in the composite catalyst of the photoanode provide more transfer channels for photogenerated e − and encourage the separation of e − -h + pairs. ∙OH and ∙O - 2 are the main active substances for rhodamine B degradation. This study offers a novel approach to the development of high-efficiency photoanodes for PFC.

In this study, a bipolar visible light responsive photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) was constructed by loading a Z-scheme g-C 3 N 4 /carbon black/BiOBr and a Ti 3 C 2 /MoS 2 Schottky heterojunction on the carbon brush to prepare the photoanode and photocathode, respectively. It greatly improved the electron transfer and achieved efficient degradation of organic pollutants such as antibiotics and dyes simultaneously in two chambers of the PFC system. The Z-scheme g-C 3 N 4 /carbon black/BiOBr formed by adding highly conductive carbon black to g-C 3 N 4 /BiOBr not only effectively separates the photogenerated carriers, but also simultaneously retains the high reduction of the conduction band of g-C 3 N 4 and the high oxidation of the valence band of BiOBr, improving the photocatalytic performance. The exceptional performance of Ti 3 C 2 /MoS 2 Schottky heterojunction originated from the superior electrical conductivity of Ti 3 C 2 MXene, which facilitated the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Meanwhile, the synergistic effect of the two photoelectrodes further improved the photocatalytic performance of the PFC system, with degradation rates of 90.9% and 99.9% for 50 mg L −1 tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) and 50 mg L −1 rhodamine-B (RhB), respectively, within 180 min. In addition, it was found that the PFC also exhibited excellent pollutant degradation rates under dark conditions (79.7%, TCH and 97.9%, RhB). This novel pollutant degradation system is expected to provide a new idea for efficient degradation of multiple pollutant simultaneously even in the dark.

High-efficiency interfacial charge transfer is the key to achieve better spatial carrier separation, and thus to develop advanced heterogeneous photocatalysts for environmental remediation. However, It still remains a great challenge to design and exploit the effective charge transfer scheme. Herein, a novel Z-scheme In 2 S 3 /BiOBr with S−O covalent bonding was prepared by hydrothermal and subsequent thermal annealing methods. The obtained photocatalysts were systematically characterized and used for tetracycline hydrochloride degradation and Cr(VI) reduction in aqueous solution. As a result, the optimized In 2 S 3 /BiOBr heterostructure (IS/BOB-39) exhibited superior photocatalytic activities for tetracycline hydrochloride degradation and Cr(VI) reduction under simulated solar light irradiation compared with individual materials. The Z-scheme transfer mechanism was corroborated by trapping experiments, ESR and XPS analysis , which provided an effective transfer pathway for spatial separation of carriers. Moreover, the formation of chemical S−O bond between In 2 S 3 and BiOBr, which acted as a specific bridge to expediently transmit interfacial electrons, showed a synergistic effect with Z-scheme transfer model on the significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance. In addition, the In 2 S 3 /BiOBr heterojunction presented excellent cycle stability, resulting from the tight heterointerface. This work provides a promising approach to design and fabricate high effect Z-scheme heterojunction in wastewater treatment.

Rational heterojunction interface construction and defect engineering have been regarded as significant strategies to enhance the photocatalytic performance of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) production. Herein, a novel 2D/1D BiOBr/WO 3 Z-scheme heterostructure with compact interface and rich oxygen vacancies (OVs) was successfully fabricated by an in situ -growth procedure. The rational design architecture and electronic structure allow the photocatalytic system to fully optimize light absorption, charge separation, and surface redox reaction . Benefited from synergistic effect of the formation of compact Z-scheme heterostructur and oxygen vacancies , the as-prepared BiOBr/WO 3 photocatalysts exhibit a greatly improved photocatalytic performance in the production of H 2 O 2 with a yield of 82.4 mM/h/g. We believe that this work provides a novel sight to develop high-efficiency photocatalyst via microstructure nanointerface control and defect engineering.

In this work, we present a highly sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing platform for malathion (Mal) detection based on the biocatalysis-induced formation of BiOBr/Bi 2 S 3 semiconductor heterostructures (BIFBSH). Initially, a double-stranded DNA consisting of an initiator strand and the anti-Mal aptamer was immobilized on magnetic beads surface. The target Mal could competitively bind with its aptamer and liberate the initiator strand from the double-stranded DNA. Subsequently, the initiator strand triggered a hybridization chain reaction (HCR) to produce a long DNA concatemer containing the sequence of G-quadruplex structure. The DNA concatemer was then endowed with HRP-like activity via the formation of hemin/G-quadruplex complexes and binding with MnTMPyP. The HCR-synthesized HRP-mimicking DNA concatemer (HSHMDC) was employed to catalyze Na 2 S 2 O 3 conversion to H 2 S with the aid of H 2 O 2 . The generated H 2 S could react with BiOBr nanoflowers (BiOBrNFs) modified on an indium tin oxide electrode, resulting in the in situ formation of BiOBr/Bi 2 S 3 heterostructures with enhanced photoelectric conversion efficiency. The BiOBr/Bi 2 S 3 heterostructures could generate a strong photocurrent signal to indicate Mal recognition. Under the optimal conditions, a wide linear range between the Mal concentration and photocurrent intensity (0.001–1000 ng mL −1 ) and a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.12 pg mL −1 were achieved.

A new magnetic dual Z-scheme heterostructure photocatalyst, consisting of mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (mpg-C 3 N 4 ), BiOBr, polythiophene (PTh), and magnetic iron oxide, was developed, and its structural, optical, and electrochemical properties were analyzed. The photocatalyst was employed for the degradation of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) in water under visible light to evaluate its photocatalytic activity. The results revealed that the photocatalytic activity of the new heterostructure photocatalyst was superior to that of its single-component counterparts. The reaction kinetics of photocatalytic DMP degradation followed pseudo first-order kinetics and the reaction rate constant was 3.7- and 4.5-fold higher than those of pristine g-C 3 N 4 and BiOBr, respectively. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was chiefly attributed to the dual Z-scheme heterostructure generated between mpg-C 3 N 4 , PTh, and BiOBr, which effectively hindered the recombination of photogenerated electron and hole pairs in mpg-C 3 N 4 and BiOBr, improving the photogenerated carrier transfer efficiency. Radical trapping test results indicated that the active species, h + , ·O 2 – , and ·OH, coexisted during the photocatalytic reaction process, and that h + played a major role in the destruction of DMP molecules. DMP was degraded into intermediate small-molecule products, such as acids and alcohols, which were ultimately mineralized to CO 2 and H 2 O. The magnetic property of the new heterostructure photocatalyst enabled its straightforward separation from water using magnetic separation technology for further reuse. This study provides a new material and method for the effective removal of DMP from aqueous solution.
