Quinolone antibiotics have good antibacterial properties and are commonly used antibiotics in the dairy industry. Currently, the problem of excessive antibiotics in dairy products is very serious. As an ultra-sensitive detection technology, Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) was applied to the detection of quinolone antibiotics in this work. In order to classify and quantify three antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Levofloxacin) with highly similar molecular structures, a combination of magnetic COF-based SERS substrate and machine learning algorithms (PCA-k-NN, PCA-SVM, PCA-Decision Tree) was used. The classification accuracy of the spectral dataset could reach 100% and the results of LOD calculation were: CIP: 5.61 × 10 −9 M, LEV: 1.44 × 10 −8 M, NFX: 1.56 × 10 −8 M. This provides a new method for the detection of antibiotics in dairy products.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) demonstrate a new trend in the field of chemical sensing mainly due to their potential for functional modification, defined pore environment and good chemical stability. Exploring functionalized-COF materials as chemosensors with low detection limits and high selectivity for biologically and environmentally important analytes is a campaign in this field. In this work, the incorporation of polyoxometalate (POM, Eu4W8) into the crystalline architecture a COF (EB-TFP) generates a functional composite material Eu4W8@EB-TFP. This material combines the merits of POM and COF together; it endows COF with outstanding luminescence properties and effectively broadens the sensing application of COF. It points out a new direction to employ POM-functionalized COF materials as efficient chemosensors to monitor trace amounts of Ag+ in environmental and CG (hepatocellular carcinoma biomarker) in biological systems. This work provides new insights into COF-based sensors and inspires the development of more versatile tools for analytical applications.

A novel COF-based material (COF-COOH) containing large amounts of carboxylic groups was prepared for the first time by using a simple and effective one-step synthetic method, in which the cheap and commercially available raw materials, trimesoyl chloride and p -phenylenediamine, were used. The as-synthesized COF-COOH was modified with previously synthesized 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-benzimidazole (HBI) by “grafting to” method, and a new solid-phase extractant (COF-HBI) with highly efficient sorption performance for uranium(VI) was consequently obtained. A series of characterizations demonstrated that COF-COOH and COF-HBI exhibited great thermostabilities and irradiation stabilities. Sorption behavior of the COF-based materials toward U(VI) was compared in simulated nuclear industrial effluent containing UO 2 2+ and 11 undesired ions, and the UO 2 2+ sorption amount of COF-HBI was 81 mg g −1 , accounting for approximately 58% of the total sorption amount, which was much higher than the sorption selectivity of COF-COOH to UO 2 2+ (39%). Batch sorption experiment results indicated that the uranium(VI) sorption on COF-HBI was a pH dependent, rapid (sorption equilibrium was reached in 30 min), endothermic and spontaneous process. In the most favorable conditions, the equilibrium sorption capacity of the adsorbent for uranium could reach 211 mg g −1 .

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) represent two burgeoning categories of advanced porous materials that have garnered substantial interests within the scientific community in recent years. Notably, the synergistic effect of MOFs and COFs facilitates their integration into MOF/COF hybrid structures, thereby enhancing performance and broadening their applicability across diverse fields. Herein, we reported the development of a novel capillary electrochromatographic coated open tubular column, utilizing a MOF/COF hybrid material (ZIF-93/TpBD) as the stationary phase, to achieve high-resolution separation of six groups of analogues. Both ZIF-93/TpBD-coated open tubular (OT) column and the hybrid stationary phase were characterized using a series of analytical techniques. Meanwhile, the outstanding separation performances of the as-prepared OT column were evaluated by the analytes of alkaline amino acids, sulfonamides, acidic antibiotics, vitamin B groups, purine compounds and β blockers under the optimal separation conditions. The six groups of analytes achieved the baseline separation within 9.5 minutes and showed the high resolution (ranging from 1.50 to 9.71). Furthermore, the run to run, day to day, column to column and batch to batch relative standard deviations of retention time and column efficiency were in range of 0.71%~3.91% and 0.49%~4.19%, respectively. The ZIF-93/TpBD-coated OT column exhibited remarkable stability after 200 consecutive runs. Finally, a rapid, highly efficient, accurate, and reliable method was developed for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and nicotinamide in healthcare medicine. This novel hybrid stationary phase, composed of MOF/COF, presented a new avenue for the advancement in the field of chromatographic separation.

An effective strategy for enzyme-enhanced electrochemical detection of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is proposed for breast cancer diagnosis. This strategy utilizes a three-dimensional mesoporous covalent organic framework (COF), immobilized horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and a novel redox mediator, 4-acetamidophenol (APAP). The mesoporous structure, with encapsulation effect, and good biocompatibility of COF, makes the functionalized COF an efficient carrier for HRP immobilization (HRP-Ab-AuNPs@COF). It demonstrates superior catalytic activity, stability, and electrochemical performance compared to free HRP, thus making it an ideal probe for simultaneous target recognition and signal amplification. APAP is screened from four candidate phenolic compounds based on its high formal potential (0.32 V vs. Ag/AgCl), rapid electron transfer activity (k app = 2.80 × 10 5 M − 1 s − 1 ), excellent solubility and stability. These properties prove significantly better than the conventional mediator hydroquinone (HQ), achieving a higher signal-to-background ratio. By integrating decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes as substrate materials, the electrochemical aptasensor achieves a low HER2 detection limit (0.418 pg mL − 1 ) with high specificity. This method’s selectivity surpasses that of the HQ-mediated method by 59–73%. Moreover, the aptasensor can effectively distinguish breast cancer patients and healthy individuals, as well as patients at different stages of the disease with high accuracy (AUC = 0.928). This performance exceeds traditional biomarkers CEA and CA15-3. This work paves novel avenues for innovative applications of COF-immobilized enzymes and the novel mediator APAP in electrochemical biosensing, thus holding significant promise for individualized breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

A novel aptasensor for the detection of kanamycin (KNM) was developed based on dual signal amplification through nanomaterials and DNA rolling machines. Firstly, a composite consisting of the covalent organic framework (COF), ketjen black (KB) and toluidine blue (Tb), was synthesized for signal generation. Tb molecules were loaded into the composite and combined with AuNPs to serve as tracer label. Secondly, the wDNA-loaded Fe 3 O 4 magnetic beads (wDNA@MBs) as the DNA walking legs, with cleavage by Mg 2+ -driven DNAzyme, the DNA walking legs can move along the sDNA-decorated MBs surface, converting the target KNM into numerous output DNA strand, achieving sensitive amplification. With a low detection limit of 0.66 fM and a wide linear dynamic range from 10 fM to 100 nM, this aptasensor showed good results in the detection of KNM in real samples. Therefore, we envision it can provide a useful method for KNM detection in actual samples.

Nanoparticles-based drug delivery systems show great promise for cancer therapy due to the advantages of crossing physiological barrier, high drug availability and good stability. However, deep tumor penetration, long blood circulation, and rapid drug release remain intractable problems for nanocarriers. In this work, we report a tumor microenvironment-sensitive nanodrug delivery system containing both acidic pH and hypoxia response sites to achieve enhanced drug permeability and on-demand release for precise cancer therapy. The covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with introduced azobenzene (azo) groups were used as employed as nanocarrier, and modified by pH-sensitive sulfamide-based zwitterionic polymers (PBA), followed by loading with the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) to obtain COF-PBA@DOX. Copolymer PBA achieved charge conversions in tumor acidic environment, resulting in a positive charge on the nanocarrier surfaces, thus facilitating the augmented tumor accumulation. Meanwhile, azo which was formed the COF carrier, could be reduced to amines by the highly expressed azoreductase under tumor hypoxia conditions, resulting in nanoparticle dissociation and the drug-controlled release at the solid tumor sites. The fabricated dual-responsive nanomedicine, based on the surface charge-reversal of zwitterion in the acidic environment of tumor, can realize the accumulation and targeted drug release at the tumor site, which has great potential as a nanocarrier in tumor therapy.

Herein, we develop a new intelligent moisture-sensitive hybrid aerogel by evenly embedding a proton-conductive covalent organic framework (COF-2SO3H) into a carboxylated cellulose nanofiber network (CNF-C) for water harvesting and spontaneous sustained electricity production from ambient humidity and human respiration. Our strategy first exploits the “suspending agent” role of CNF-C to stably disperse COF materials in water for forming uniform hierarchical hybrid structures. By utilizing the synergy of COF-2SO3H and CNF-C together with their inherent structure merits and surface group effects, the hybrid aerogel displays increased water uptake and ion conductivity. Upon asymmetric moisturization, it can create a self-maintained moisture gradient to engender a concentration difference for mobile Na+ and H+, resulting in efficient charge separation and diffusion. Thus, the hybrid aerogel-based coin-type generator achieves a continuous output voltage of ∼0.55 V for at least 5 h in ambient environments in contrast to that using pure CNF-C and carbon-based generators with transient voltage response. Intriguingly, the wearable generator with an aerogel in a mask is more sensitive to human respiration and achieves repeatable and reliable self-charge for persistent electricity along with an increased output voltage of up to 1.0 V and much faster self-charge (only 3 min), both of which surpass most reported moisture-enabled generators.

A sensitive electrochemical sensor was constructed for tyrosine detection by collaborating a highly conductivity, excellent electrocatalysis and large surface of nitrogen-rich porous covalent organic framework in situ grown on three-dimensional conductive carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes network and catalytic activity of triangular silver nanosheets. The prepared electrochemical sensing platform exhibited satisfactory results for detection of tyrosine with a wide linear range of 0.6–280 μM and a low detection limit of 0.017 μM, which were significantly superior to those of most existing electrochemical methods. At the same time, the developed sensor was successfully applied to the detection of tyrosine in real samples including human serum and urine and displayed high recoveries, good stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability. This study not only provides a novel sensing platform for tyrosine monitoring but also offers an innovative design concept for leveraging multifunctional nanocomposites in biosensing applications. Lead ions (Pb(II)) in industrial wastewater pose a serious threat to the ecological environment and human health due to their toxicity and persistence. Traditional treatment methods often struggle to achieve both efficient capture and sensitive detection of Pb(II). In this study, a novel bifunctional covalent organic framework (BTT-DHBD-COF) with ortho N-S/N-O dual sites was innovatively designed to enable highly selective adsorption and ultrasensitive detection of Pb(II). Adsorption studies revealed that the BTT-DHBD-COF exhibits a high adsorption capacity for Pb(II) (570.7 mg/g at pH 5) and rapid kinetics (equilibrium reached in 10 min). The BTT-DHBD-COF/GCE sensor demonstrated a wide linear detection range (0.0001–0.5 μM) and an ultralow detection limit (0.03 nM). In real water samples (lake water and tap water), it achieved high recovery rates of 96–108 % with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 2.5–3.45 %. Experimental results and theoretical calculations confirmed that the N-S/N-O dual sites significantly enhance Pb(II) capture and detection through strong coordination (with Pb transferring 0.46 and 0.44 electrons to the N-S and N-O sites, respectively) and efficient electron conduction via the π-conjugated framework. Compared to single binding sites (S: 0.42 e, O: 0.40 e, N: 0.37 e), the significant charge transfer of the dual site highlights its key role. This work presents an innovative bifunctional “adsorption-detection” strategy for the remediation of Pb(II) pollution in industrial wastewater.

The quest for solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) that exhibit both elevated ionic conductivity and thermal stability is imperative for the progression of secure and high-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs), a goal that presents considerable difficulties. Herein, we present an innovative approach to fabricate high-performance quasi-solid-state electrolytes (QSSEs) by confining solvate ionic liquids (SILs) within the nanochannels of a methoxy-functionalized covalent organic framework (COF-OMe). This design leverages the synergistic interaction between the COF's ordered nanochannels and the SILs, resulting in QSSEs that exhibit exceptional Li + conductivity (up to 1.65 × 10 −4 S cm −1 , 25 °C) and excellent thermal stability (up to 150 °C). Experimental and theoretical calculations reveal that the confined SILs and methoxy groups synergistically enhance Li + transport by lowering the dissociation energy of lithium salts and creating efficient pathways for ion migration. This results in a significant increase in the Li + transference number (up to 0.80) and effectively suppresses lithium dendrite growth. At the molecular level, these interactions enhance ionic conductivity, transference number, and overall thermal stability. These QSSEs show exceptional cyclability and rate performance across an extensive temperature range (–10 °C to 80 °C) when implemented in Li|QSSE|LiFePO 4 batteries. This work not only provides a new avenue for designing advanced SSEs but also highlights the potential of COF-based materials in next-generation solid-state LMBs.

The monitoring of phthalates (PAEs) is essential for ensuring the quality and safety of Chinese Baijiu. However, the complex matrices and low level pose significant technical challenges. Herein, an online in-tube solid-phase microextraction coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (IT-SPME-HPLC-DAD) was proposed for detecting PAEs in Baijiu. A covalent organic framework was grown onto carbon fibers, then the material was carbonized to get another fibers (CFs@C-COF). The CFs@C-COF as a sorbent of IT-SPME demonstrated enhanced physicochemical properties, including highly a graphitized structure with mild defects, a high surface area, abundant mesopores and excellent durability. The superior extraction efficiency of CFs@C-COF for PAEs can be ascribed to multiple interactions, such as hydrophobic, π-stacking, and pore-filling effects. The developed online IT-SPME-HPLC-DAD method exhibited the linear ranges (1.0–10.0, 1.5–10.0 μg L −1 ), the limits of detection (0.3–0.5 μg L −1 ), acceptable relative recoveries (72.7 %–125.8 %), and satisfactory repeatability. In addition, the total duration of this online extraction procedure was only 23 min and no any pretreatment of the samples was required except for diluting Baijiu samples. This research not only offered a simple and effective strategy for the analysis of Baijiu but also expanded the application of carbonized COFs in food safety.
