High-Performance CsPbBr3 Photodetector Enabled by BN Nanosheets via Defect Passivation and Optical Modulation

Shaoru Shuang,Jing Lin,Shuqiao Zhang,Chao Yu,Chengchun Tang,Yang Huang

All-inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite materials exhibit outstanding optoelectronic properties, demonstrating great potential in the field of photodetectors. However, the limitations in achieving both high performance and long-term stability remain a key challenge hindering their practical application. In this work, a perovskite/BN heterojunction photodetector is fabricated via a spin-coating method. The device is based on a type-I band alignment structure, leveraging the synergistic effect of defect passivation and optical modulation enabled by BN nanosheets, which effectively suppresses nonradiative recombination while optimizing light absorption and utilization efficiency. The as-fabricated CsPbBr3/BN photodetector shows significant performance improvements: its responsivity and specific detectivity reach 10.56 mA/W and 1.96 × 109 Jones respectively, representing an approximately one-order-of-magnitude enhancement compared to the pure CsPbBr3 device (1.17 mA/W, 1.94 × 108 Jones). Furthermore, after exposure to ambient conditions for 20 days, the photocurrent retains over 80% of its initial value. The device also achieves a switch ratio of 5.87 × 103, outperforming both the pure CsPbBr3 device and other reported heterojunction devices of similar type. These results demonstrate the potential of BN nanosheets in enhancing the performance and stability of CsPbBr3 photodetectors, paving the way for the future development of perovskite/BN hybrid photodetectors and other optoelectronic devices.

22.8%-EQE and ns-Level Response CsPbBr3 Perovskite Quantum Dot-Based Light-Emitting Diodes

Hongdan Ren,Shalong Wang,Yingyi Nong,Ying Sun,Jindi Wang,Mingyang Li,Leimeng Xu,Jisong Yao,Jizhong Song

Fast-responsive and efficient perovskite QD-based light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) demonstrate significant potential in high refresh rate display applications. However, the response time and external quantum efficiency (EQE) remain limited by imperfect device architectures, including low carrier mobility in transport layers and severe interface losses. Here, we utilized a molecule (3-(6-(3-(4,6-di([1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)phenyl)pyridin-2-yl)phenyl) diphenylphosphine oxide (ETL-PO) as an electron transport layer (ETL) due to its high electron mobility, which could also reduce defects at the interface between the QDs and ETL in the perovskite QLED. The P═O group of ETL-PO coordinates with undercoordinated Pb 2+ to suppress nonradiative interfacial recombination, while the conjugated backbone supports efficient electron transport and reduces the device's resistance and capacitance. Resultantly, the QLEDs based on ETL-PO exhibit a total response time of 564 ns at an active area of 0.01 mm 2 , which is more than 50 times faster than that of 29 µs for control devices. Furthermore, a peak EQE of 22.8% with a maximum luminance of 105518 cd m −2 is reached. This work shows a perovskite QLED device successfully achieved both high EQE and nanosecond-level response time, providing a new perspective for the field of optical communication and data transmission.

Etching-Assisted Double-End Anchoring of Ligands for High-Performance CsPbBr3 Light-Emitting Diodes

Guiyuan Liu,Wannan Dai,ShengWei Fang,Xiaotian Lu,PeiPei Du,Ying Ma

Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as highly promising emitters for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) owing to their outstanding luminescence properties, broadly tunable band structures, and intrinsically high color purity. Surface ligand engineering plays a crucial role in regulating the electroluminescent performance and device stability of perovskite NCs. Here, we develop a cooperative 2-(4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl)ethylamine (MSPE)-hydrogen halide (HX, X = Br, I) ligand-exchange strategy that enables surface reconfiguration and robust passivation of perovskite NCs. In this approach, HX assists in removing insulating long-chain ligands (oleic acid and oleylamine), thereby exposing additional undercoordinated surface sites and promoting firm double-end anchoring of in situ protonated MSPE through bidentate interactions. Spectroscopic and electrical analyses reveal that the strengthened ligand-nanocrystal interface effectively suppresses trap-assisted nonradiative recombination, increases the exciton binding energy from 97.7 to 168.9 meV, prolongs the lifetime from 9.5 to 12.3 ns, and reduces trap densities in CsPbBr3 NC films. As a result, the photoluminescence quantum yield of CsPbBr3 NCs after MSPE-HBr treatment is enhanced to 96.1%, and LEDs fabricated with MSPE-HBr-treated NCs deliver a peak external quantum efficiency of 25.2% and display excellent device-to-device reproducibility. This cooperative ligand-exchange strategy provides an effective pathway for achieving high surface coverage of robust multidentate ligands, offering a promising route toward highly efficient and stable perovskite LEDs.

Red-green bicolor emitting CsPbBr3/LiGa5O8: Eu3+ quantum dots phosphors for anti-counterfeiting strategy

Yunan Lin,Peiyuan Zhuang,Xiaoting Gao,Wudeng Wang,Guorui Li,Zheng Wei,Yanjie Zhang,Jingjie Yu

With the rapid advancement of information technology, anti-counterfeiting requirements across diverse scenarios have become increasingly stringent, thereby spurring significant interest in multifunctional luminescent materials integrating photochromic and luminescence-tunable properties. However, traditional anti-counterfeiting technologies mainly depend on single color emitting phosphors, hardly meeting the requirements of high-level encryption and anti-counterfeiting. Herein, CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) phosphors with red-green bicolor emission have been successfully developed via the solution impregnation method. The CsPbBr 3 PQDs uniformly supported on the surface of LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ phosphors can effectively endure high-temperature calcination and maintain the average particle size of ∼5.0 nm even after calcination at 400°C, avoiding the serious problem of aggregation and luminescence quenching of PQDs at high temperatures. CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ PQDs phosphors exhibit a red emission peak at 620 nm under excitation at 254 nm and a green emission peak at 530 nm under excitation at 365 nm, attributed to the transitions of Eu 3+ ions and CsPbBr 3 PQDs, respectively. Notably, the green emission intensity of CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ PQDs phosphors calcined at 400°C increases by 36 times compared to the uncalcined sample, attributed to the fact that the bromine vacancies in CsPbBr 3 quantum dots are passivated by the oxygen of LiGa 5 O 8 lattice. The fluorescence lifetime rises by ∼900 %, from 19.05 ns of uncalcined sample to 171.43 ns of CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ PQDs phosphors calcined at 400℃, owing to suppressed electron-hole recombination via PQDs loading. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results further verify that 400°C calcination plays a significant role in boosting the green emission of samples. Based on the unique red-green dual-color emission characteristics of the CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ PQDs phosphors, an anti-counterfeiting strategy encompassing invisible labels and information encryption via binary and Morse codes is proposed. Therefore, CsPbBr 3 /LiGa 5 O 8 : Eu 3+ PQDs phosphors hold potential applications in invisible pattern display, tunable photochromism, information encryption and other related fields.

Anomalous variable-temperature photoluminescence of CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots embedded into an organic solid

Fei Tang,Zhicheng Su,Honggang Ye,Ye Zhu,Jiyan Dai,Shijie Xu

All-inorganic lead halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) of CsPbBr3 were synthesized at room temperature via a facile solution-based procedure. The cubic phase structure of the synthesized PQDs was judiciously identified through examining high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images, selected area electronic diffraction (SAED) patterns and scanning TEM images of the PQDs. Variable-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the CsPbBr3 PQDs randomly embedded into a frozen solid of methylbenzene were measured in the temperature range of 5–180 K. It is found that both the linewidth and peak position of the measured PL spectra are abnormally almost temperature independent in the temperature range of interest. Some competing mechanisms, such as a competition between the bandgap blue shift induced by thermal lattice expansion and red shift induced by thermal escaping of localized excitons, and a competition between lineshape broadening by phonon scattering and narrowing by thermal escaping of localized excitons, are proposed to interpret the phenomena. Good agreement between the theoretical fitting and the experimental data leads to a state-of-the-art understanding of the temperature-dependent luminescence of the CsPbBr3 PQDs in a solid matrix.

High performance metal-semiconductor-metal ultraviolet photodetector based on mixed-dimensional TiO2/CsPbBr3 heterostructures

Tao Zhang,Siyu Cai,Nina Liang,Yalei Gao,Yuanpeng Li,Fuchi Liu,Lizhen long,Jun Liu

Zero-dimensional (0D) and one-dimensional (1D) mixed heterostructure semiconductors can bring superior electrical and optoelectronic performances due to the synergistic advantages of different dimensionalities. Here, a metal-semiconductor–metal (MSM) ultraviolet (UV) photodetector based on 1D-0D TiO2/CsPbBr3 heterostructure semiconductor is constructed, which exhibits excellent photodetection performance. A back-to-back Schottky contact is formed in the MSM (Au/TiO2/Au) structure due to the large band-energy bending resulted from the abundant surface-states at 1D-TiO2 surface. Under an applied voltage, a small saturation current flows through the device. Benefiting from the decoration of CsPbBr3 QDs, the dark current of MSM photodetectors can be further suppressed, and producing the improved on/off ratio (Ilight/Idark), photoresponsivity (Rλ), and detectivity (D*). PL properties study suggested that an energy transfer is occurred between the 0D-CsPbBr3 and 1D-TiO2. The TiO2/CsPbBr3 heterojunctions are beneficial for photo-induced charge transfer in hetero-interface because of the type-II energy-band alignment, but not non-radiative energy transfer from 0D-CsPbBr3 to 1D-TiO2. On the whole, this study depicts a fascinating coupling architecture of mixed-dimensional materials toward implementing low-cost and high-performance optoelectronic devices.

Enhancing the efficiency of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystal light‑emitting diodes through dodecyl ligand capping

Tingting Zhao,Anchi Yu

Post-synthetic ligand exchange with dodecyl-based molecules, such as dodecanethiol (DDT) and didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB), has proven effective for enhancing the photophysical properties of CsPbX 3 nanocrystals (NCs). However, systematic evaluations of their performance in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) remain limited. In this study, we synthesized DDT- and DDAB-capped CsPbBr 3 NCs via ligand exchange from oleic acid/oleylamine (OA/OAm)-capped CsPbBr 3 NCs. LED device evaluation revealed that the DDT-capped CsPbBr 3 NC-based device achieved superior performance, with a peak external quantum efficiency of 18.02% and a maximum luminance of 4868 cd m −2 , outperforming devices based on DDAB- and OA/OAm-capped CsPbBr 3 NCs. Comprehensive Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis confirmed the complete replacement of OA/OAm by DDT ligands which induced substantial modifications in its surface characteristics and film formation. Notably, the preferential orientation of the DDT-capped CsPbBr 3 NC film along the (100) crystal plane was identified as a key factor for the enhanced LED performance. These findings underscore the crucial role of ligand-directed surface anisotropy in governing charge transport and electroluminescence in perovskite NCs, providing important theoretical guidance for developing high-efficiency perovskite LEDs.

Photoluminescence and Lasing of Cs4PbBr6 Micro-Flakes and Micro-Flowers with Embedded CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals

Yu Qiao,Yanan Li,Yanwei Huang,Hongliang Dong,Qiangqiang Wang,Wei Xie,Heping Zeng

Herein, a controlled synthesis route with precise growth tunability of perovskite Cs 4 PbBr 6 micro-flakes and micro-flowers with embedded CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals (Cs 4 PbBr 6 @CsPbBr 3 ) is elaborated. This room-temperature synthesis scheme initiates the nucleation and growth process of the majority crystalline phase of Cs 4 PbBr 6 with a few CsPbBr 3 impurities as confirmed by the X-ray diffraction studies. The microstructures and shape control are further investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The results depict hexagonal Cs 4 PbBr 6 micro-flakes with embedded CsPbBr 3 that can spontaneously self-assemble into micro-flowers with varying external conditions. This approach gives access to perovskite semiconductors with both structural and excellent optical properties by correlating the dimensionality with quantum confinement effects. The photoluminescence, absorption, and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy confirm that such as-synthesized materials exhibit bright green emission with an optical bandgap of 2.3 eV. Lasing action is obtained under an excitation wavelength of 400 nm at 10 K where the light intensity and lifetime are examined at different pump fluences. There exist two linear regions corresponding to spontaneous emission and lasing, respectively. The lower lasing threshold of 27 μJ cm −2 per pulse is obtained and the corresponding Q factor is estimated to be 1090.

Improved Low-Temperature Solution-Growth of CsPbBr3-nCln Single Crystals for X-Ray Detection

Yunqiu Hua,Fucai Cui,Peng Zhang,Guodong Zhang,Qichun Zhang,Xutang Tao

The dark current drift caused by severe ion migration in all-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr 3 degrades the stability of X-ray detection performance under a high electric field. The halogen doping is an effective method to improve the properties of the perovskites. In this work, the all-inorganic Cl-doped perovskites CsPbBr 3-n Cl n (n=0, 0.1 and 0.5) single crystals were grown by a modified low-temperature inverse temperature crystallization (ITC) method with the growth temperature lower than the phase transition point. The trap density decreased to 3.05×10 10 cm −3 and the carrier mobility increased to 124.75 cm 2 V −1 s −1 for the optimum component of CsPbBr 2.9 Cl 0.1 . Furthermore, by designing the detector with an asymmetric electrode configuration, CsPbBr 2.9 Cl 0.1 detector showed super low dark current and an outstanding hard X-ray induced photo-response under a high voltage of 200 V. Consequently, the CsPbBr 2.9 Cl 0.1 perovskite detector delivers a high sensitivity (5593.24 μC Gy air −1 cm −2 ) and a low detection limit (0.68 μGy air s −1 ). Our low temperature solution grown Cl-doped all-inorganic perovskite single crystals efficiently improve the photoelectric properties and enhance the X-ray detection performance.

Amino Acid-Assisted Preparation of Homogeneous PbS/CsPbBr3 Nanocomposites for Enhanced Photoelectrocatalytic CO2 Reduction

Xudong Wu,Ruijie Xu,Xianli Li,Ruosheng Zeng,Binbin Luo

As a potential candidate for photocatalytic CO2 reduction, CsPbX3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have attracted enormous attention due to their suitable energy band structure and large molar extinction coefficient for visible light. However, the catalytic performance on CO2 reduction is greatly limited due to the intrinsically fast radiative recombination and poor stability of PNCs. In this work, PbS nanoparticles are uniformly anchored on CsPbBr3 PNCs with the assistance of a bridged amino acid due to the directed interaction between −COO– (−NH3+) and Pb2+ (Br–). Because of the small lattice mismatch between PbS and CsPbBr3, the introduction of PbS significantly quenches the emission of CsPbBr3 and boosts the interfacial charge transfer, thereby resulting in an enhanced photoelectrocatalytic CO2 reduction rate of ∼2.94 and 0.36 μmol cm–2 h–1 for CO and CH4 products, which are ∼2.4 times higher than that of pristine CsPbBr3 PNCs, respectively. This work provides a universal strategy of constructing homogeneous nanocomposites for catalytic applications.

In situ fabrication of plasmonic Bi/CsPbBr3 composite photocatalyst toward enhanced photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Yanzhao Wu,Xiaoyang Yue,Jiajie Fan,Xiaoming Hao,Quanjun Xiang

In recent years, the semimetal bismuth with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect has attracted great attention due to its application in enhancing photocatalytic activity. Herein, we developed a novel plasma-enhanced Bi/CsPbBr 3 composite photocatalyst by in situ growth method (BCPB-IS) using the fabricated CsPbBr 3 nanosheets (CPB) as the substrate for subsequent growth of Bi nanoparticles. Without the addition of any sacrificial agent, the CO yield of BCPB-IS reaches 76.4 µmol g −1 with an over 97% selectivity of CO under 4 h visible light irradiation. Such remarkable CO 2 reduction activity far exceeds that of pure CPB. The enhanced activity can be attributed to these factors: (1) The SPR effect from the loading of Bi NPs enhances the light response performance of BCPB; (2) The simultaneously generated hot electrons leads to rising ambient temperature, which promotes the electron transfer efficiency and photoreduction reaction efficiency; (3) The energy band bending effect at the interface of BCPB further improves the carrier separation and transfer performance. The enhanced separation and transfer performance of photogenerated carriers were investigated in detail by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Infrared thermograms and Time-resolved photoluminescence spectra (TRPL).

Ultra-stable CsPbBr3@PbBrOH nanorods for fluorescence labeling application based on methylimidazole-assisted synthesis

Jie Guan,Dandan Yang,Junyi Ma,Yingzhuo Shen,Qin Xu,Xiaoya Hu

The extension application of perovskites in aqueous media such as bioassays requires the development of a water-stable perovskite with a simple preparation process and low cost. However, the degradation of perovskites in aqueous solution is still a thorny problem. Here, we develop a methylimidazole-assisted two-step synthesis protocol to prepare CsPbBr3@PbBrOH nanorods with superior water stability and remarkable optical properties at room temperature. The synergy of 2-methylimidazole (2-MIM), an N-donor ligand, with water can not only facilitate CsPbBr3 formation and suppress CsPb2Br5 or Cs4PbBr6 formation, but also promote the formation of a PbBrOH shell capping CsPbBr3. 2-MIM is ionized into 2-MIM− in DMF and 2-MIM+ in water. They passivated the surface defects and changed the crystallization environment, leading to water-stable CsPbBr3@PbBrOH. The obtained CsPbBr3@PbBrOH nanorods can still maintain 91% PL intensity after being stored in water for more than 2 months. Furthermore, the CsPbBr3@PbBrOH nanorods show excellent stability in polar solvents, water, and phosphate buffer solution in a wide pH range, as well as better thermal and irradiation stability. In addition, the CsPbBr3@PbBrOH nanorods are further functionalized with polydopamine (PDA) for biomolecular immobilization and immunoassay studies. The resulting assay shows a detection limit of 0.003 ng mL−1 for IgG detection, illustrating important progress towards expanding fluorescence labeling application of perovskite nanomaterials for immunoassays.
