Interfacial solar evaporators designed with sophisticated 3D structure hold the potentiality for ameliorating the evaporation rate through expanding the surface area for evaporation, facilitating water movement and bolstering air convection. However, the most current 3D evaporators are stalemated of constrained light absorption, circumscribed evaporative surface or thermal dissipation which collectively result in the curtailment of evaporation rate escalation. In this work, an omnibearing convergence of new cup-like 3D solar steam generator (C-3D SSG) based on MoS 2 /C and PVA materials with integrated coordination of light-space-heat is constructed. The innovative cup-like structural design of C-3D SSG successfully embodies the convergence of light, space and heat management through the strategic integration of photothermal materials (PTM), substrate materials and evaporative elements across multiple scales, demonstrating a compelling advancement in light absorption, copious heat diffusion space and prodigious energy-harvesting zone and water evaporation rate enhancement. The omnibearing regulation attains a premium evaporation rate of 3.89 kg m -2 h −1 under 1 Sun illumination with recycle energy of 1.71 W. By incorporating the C-3D SSG for practical application, it can function as an evaporator within a cup, thereby enhancing its practical utility. And C-3D SSG with panoramic convergence provides a broad range of research avenues and methodologies for addressing the water crisis and the development of ISSG technology.

The contamination of water resources in recent years has resulted in the dissemination of harmful bacteria via water sources, posing a significant threat to the safety and well-being of humans, animals, and plants. Consequently, there is a growing concern over the health and sanitation of water resources. Photocatalysis, a novel and very effective antibacterial method, has gained significant attention in the area of antibacterial research. Bismuth nitrate pentahydrate and sodium tungstate dihydrate were used in a straightforward hydrothermal process to create nanoflower spheres Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO photocatalytic composites in molar ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4. The first-ever demonstration of the photocatalytic broad-spectrum antibacterial activity of porous nanoflower spheres Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO composites was shown. The samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis). The antibacterial activity was evaluated using the dilution coated plate technique, with LED light irradiation. The findings indicate that the Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO composite has a much superior antibacterial activity against both bacteria and fungus compared to individual Bi 2 WO 6 and ZnO. When exposed to LED lighting with an intensity of 35 W, the Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO nanoparticles in a 1:2 ratio at a concentration of 1000 mg/L demonstrated complete antibacterial effectiveness against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus subtilis within 30 min. Similarly, the nanoparticles achieved 100 % antibacterial efficiency against Candida albicans within 90 min. The antibacterial efficacy of 1000 mg/L 1:2 Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO nanoparticles against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was found to be 100 % within 5 min under natural lighting conditions. The findings indicate that Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnO nanoparticles have excellent photocatalytic broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) could be of use in the development of active-matrix displays. However, due to ion migration in crystal structure, PeLEDs have electroluminescence rise times over milliseconds, which is problematic for the development of high-refresh-rate displays. Here, we show that the electroluminescence rise time of PeLEDs can be reduced to microseconds using an individual-particle passivation strategy. The approach is based on BF 4 − ions that can passivate every nanocrystal in a perovskite emissive layer during film deposition. It leads to a defect-free film with discrete nanostructure and excellent crystallinity, which inhibits ion migration. Our strategy can be applied in perovskite nanocrystal films with different colours: red (635 nm), green (520 nm) and blue (475 nm). These PeLEDs all demonstrate response times within microseconds and high external quantum efficiencies of 22.7%, 26.2% and 18.1%, respectively. This allows us to create microsecond-response active-matrix PeLEDs that exhibit external quantum efficiencies above 20% at a display brightness of 500–3,000 cd m −2 for green devices with a resolution of 30 pixels per inch. We also develop microsecond-response red, green and blue active-matrix displays with 90 pixels per inch.

Sulfonate oxime ester photoinitiators (PIs) based on a thioether-substituted 1,8-naphthalenedicarboximide backbone exhibit good absorption at the emission wavelengths of commonly used LED lamps (385, 395, and 405 nm). The presence of weak C–S and N–O bonds in the molecular structure enables them to be cleaved under light, which leads to the generation of free radicals and cations with efficient initiation properties. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy supports the mechanism of C–S bond cleavage to produce free radicals, and UV–visible real-time spectroscopy in the presence of Rhodamine B base supports the mechanism of N–O bond cleavage to produce acids. These compounds are high-performance photoinitiators without any other additives for the polymerization of double-bonded compounds and epoxides. They can be initiated at low concentrations when exposed to UV-LEDs. These photoinitiators provide important ideas for the design and synthesis of photoinitiators, which have great potential for application in the field of photopolymerization, especially in hybrid light-curing systems.

Shape memory polymers (SMPs) show attractive prospects in emerging fields such as soft robots and biomedical devices. Although their typical trigger-responsive character offers the essential shape-changing controllability, having to access external stimulation is a major bottleneck toward many applications. Recently emerged autonomous SMPs exhibit unique stimuli-free shape-shifting behavior with its controllability achieved via a delayed and programmable recovery onset. Achieving multi-shape morphing in an arbitrary fashion, however, is infeasible. In this work, a molecular design that allows to spatio-temporally define the recovery onset of an autonomous shape memory hydrogel (SMH) is reported. By introducing nitrocinnamate groups onto an SMH, its crosslinking density can be adjusted by light. This affects greatly the phase separation kinetics, which is the basis for the autonomous shape memory behavior. Consequently, the recovery onset can be regulated between 0 to 85 min. With masked light, multiple recovery onsets in an arbitrarily defined pattern which correspondingly enable multi-shape morphing can be realized. This ability to achieve highly sophisticated morphing without relying on any external stimulation greatly extends the versatility of SMPs.

Perovskite multiple quantum wells (MQWs) have shown great potential in the field of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the random formation of QWs with varying well widths (n numbers) often leads to suboptimal interface defects and charge transport issues. Here, we reveal that the crystallization sequence of bromide-based perovskite MQWs is large-n QWs preceding small-n QWs. With this insight, we prevent the crystallization of subsequent small-n QWs by reducing the crystallization rate, ultimately resulting in the crystallization of only n = 5 QWs. This reduction in the crystallization rate is achieved through the chemical interaction of dual additives with perovskite constituents. Additionally, the chemical interaction effectively passivates the uncoordinated lead ions defects. Consequently, pure-phase perovskite QWs with a high photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 75% are achieved. The resulting green LEDs achieve a peak external quantum efficiency of 17.1% and a maximum luminance of 29,480 cd m–2, which is attractive for full-color display applications of perovskites.

Considering the instability and toxicity of 3D Pb-based perovskite nanocrystals, lead-free low-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides have attracted widespread attention as potential substitutes. Herein, two new tin-based 0D halides [H4BAPP]SnBr5·Br and [H4BAPP]SnCl5·Cl·H2O (BAPP = 1,4-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine) were synthesized successfully based on [SnX5]3− as an emission center. Typically, [H4BAPP]SnBr5·Br and [H4BAPP]SnCl5·Cl·H2O display broadband yellow and yellow-green light emissions originating from the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons (STEs). The photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of the two compounds were calculated to be 19.27% and 2.36%, respectively. Furthermore, the excellent chemical and thermal stability and broadband light emissions reveal their potential application in solid-state white lighting diodes.

Tantalum nitride (Ta3N5) with suitable band structure and high theoretical solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency (15.9%) is regarded as one of the most promising semiconductor-based photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution via water splitting. However, it is practically constrained by the slow carrier mobility, fast electron–hole recombination and unabundant catalytic active sites. Herein, honeycomb-structured Ta3N5 foam nanoplates were successfully synthesized using a simple template-free strategy. It can not only capture broader visible light to generate the high concentration of photo-generated carriers, but also accelerate the rapid transport/separation of carriers and provide abundant active sites to accelerate the kinetics of water splitting reaction. Therefore, honeycomb-structured Ta3N5 exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance with a remarkably enhanced H2 production rate of 59.16 μmol h−1 g−1, which is 22.7 times higher than that of the conventional bulk Ta3N5. Moreover, the unique Ta3N5 with honeycomb structure has outstanding stability and recycling ability. This work provides a simple and effective strategy for the preparation of Ta3N5-based photocatalysts for efficient and stable H2 production.

Near-infrared (NIR) phosphors are fascinating photoluminescence materials with applications in phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) for night vision lighting, which are still restricted by low efficiency and thermal stability in the current research stage. In this work, AScSi2O6 (A = Na/Li) are chosen as hosts due to a larger band gap and a single octahedral site for Cr3+ doping. The NIR-emitting Cr3+-activated AScSi2O6:Cr3+ phosphors were successfully prepared by a common high-temperature solid-state method. X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement confirm that the Cr3+ prefers to enter the Sc3+-octahedral lattice site in the AScSi2O6 structure. Under blue light excitation, AScSi2O6:Cr3+ phosphors exhibit broadband NIR emission from 700 to 1100 nm with a full width at half-maximum of ∼150 nm owing to the 4T2 → 4A2 electron transition of Cr3+. The photoluminescence properties were enhanced by adjusting the fluxes and sintering conditions, and highly efficient LiScSi2O6:Cr3+ NIR phosphors with external quantum efficiencies of 33.4% were obtained. Moreover, the optimized LiScSi2O6:Cr3+ exhibits excellent thermal stability (75% at 150 °C) with an activation energy of 0.33 eV. Importantly, the fabricated NIR pc-LED with the highly efficient LiScSi2O6:Cr3+ phosphor demonstrates brighter NIR light and a higher luminous efficacy than the NaScSi2O6:Cr3+ phosphor in night vision.

A series of blue-light-emitting conjugated polymers based on electron-donating trifluoren-2-ylamine and electron-deficient dibenzothiophene- S,S -dioxide were synthesized via typical Suzuki coupling reactions. Their thermal, photophysical and electrochemical properties were fully studied. Owing to the excellent thermal stability, film-forming ability as well as the favorable energy levels of the polymers, highly efficient non-doped single-layer blue devices by using these polymers as an emitting layer (EML) were achieved. Among them, the device based on PSFOFN1 showed the highest maximum current efficiency (CE max ) of 1.99 cd/A. Moreover, the device presented small efficiency roll-off with current efficiency (CE) of 1.97 cd/A at high brightness up to 100 cd/m 2 . In addition, the Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of all the devices are very close to the deep blue region. Our findings suggest the potential applications of the polymers in full-color flat-panel displays and organic lighting.

Using inexhaustible solar energy to drive efficient light-driven thermocatalytic CO 2 reduction by CH 4 (DRM) is an attractive approach that can synchronously reduce the greenhouse effect and convert solar energy into fuels. However, it is often limited by the intense light intensity required to produce high fuel production rates, and the catalyst deactivation due to severe carbon deposition generated from side reactions. Herein, a nanostructure of alumina-cluster-modified Ni nanoparticles supported on Al 2 O 3 nanorods (ACM-Ni/Al 2 O 3 ) was synthesized, displaying good catalytic performance under focused UV–vis-IR illumination. By light-driven thermocatalytic DRM on ACM-Ni/Al 2 O 3 at a reduced light intensity of 76.9 kW m −2 , the high fuel production rates of H 2 ( r H2, 65.7 mmol g −1 min −1 ) and CO ( r CO, 78.8 mmol g −1 min −1 ), as well as an efficient light-to-fuel efficiency ( η , 26.3 %) are achieved without additional heating. The r H2 and r CO of light-driven thermocatalysis are 2.9 and 1.9 times higher, respectively, compared to conventional thermocatalysis at the same temperature. We have discovered that high light-driven thermocatalytic activity originates from the photoactivation effect, significantly reducing the apparent activation energy and facilitating C* oxidation as a decisive step in DRM. ACM-Ni/Al 2 O 3 possesses excellent durability and exhibits an extremely low coking rate of 4.40 × 10 −3 g c g catalyst −1 h −1 , which is 26.8 times lower than that of the reference sample without Al 2 O 3 cluster modification (R-Ni/Al 2 O 3 ). This is owing to a decrease in activation energies (E a ) of C* oxidation and an increase in E a of C* polymerization by the surface modification of Ni nanoparticles with Al 2 O 3 clusters, effectively inhibiting carbon deposition.

A novel Z-scheme CaF 2 :Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ @ZnTiO 3 /Au/CdS photocatalyst has been prepared. In this system, an excellent up-conversion luminescent agent, CaF 2 :Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ , is introduced to broaden the light response range. The Au surface plasmon resonance effect endows the system with highly efficient charge transfer. The photocatalytic activity of the Z-scheme CaF 2 :Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ @ZnTiO 3 /Au/CdS photocatalyst has been evaluated in the degradation of norfloxacin (NOR) with simultaneous hydrogen production . Some influencing factors, such as solar light irradiation time, sacrificial agent concentration, and number of reuse cycles, are discussed. The emission spectrum and energy conversion mechanism of CaF 2 :Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ have also been studied. The prepared photocatalyst facilitated a significant degree of degradation (92.05%) of NOR and considerable hydrogen production (513.39 μmol/g) under solar light irradiation for 5.0 h. Moreover, it showed high stability in photocatalytic NOR degradation with simultaneous hydrogen production over five cycles. A possible mechanism for photocatalytic degradation of NOR with simultaneous hydrogen production promoted by the Z-scheme CaF 2 :Yb 3+ ,Er 3+ @ZnTiO 3 /Au/CdS photocatalyst is proposed.
