The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction to ammonia (NRA) offers a promising alternative to traditional ammonia synthesis methods. In nature, enzymes containing molybdenum and iron sites catalyze the reduction of nitrate and nitrite ions. Drawing inspiration from these enzymes, we synthesized a carbon-coated nano-octahedra of FeMo-based nitride (FeMoN@C NO) by pyrolyzing phosphomolybdic acid hydrate (POM) doped Fe-NH 2 -MIL-101 to catalyze NRA. Experimental results demonstrate that in an alkaline environment, FeMoN@C NO exhibits a suitable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) capacity, and the protons or hydroxyls produced effectively facilitate the hydrogenation reaction in the ammonia synthesis process. Additionally, the introduction of Mo increases the number of active sites and effectively reduces the thermodynamic barrier in NRA, thereby enhancing the rate of ammonia synthesis. As a result, FeMoN@C NO displays outstanding NH 3 Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.2 % and an NH 3 yield of 434.16 µmol/h cm −2 . Building upon the excellent electrocatalytic properties of FeMoN@C NO, a new Zn-nitrate battery system is assembled in this work, which exhibits an outstanding peak power density of 3.23 mW cm −2 and an FE of 91.58 % for NH 3 production. This work provides a new perspective for designing enzyme-mimicking nitrate reduction catalysts and broadens the application of Zn-based batteries.

The aim of this research is to enhance the tribological performance of Stellite 12 coatings at room temperature-1000 °C. To this end, Mo modified Stellite 12 coatings were prepared on the Inconel 718 alloy by laser cladding , and the Mo content was optimized. The effects of Mo on the phases, microstructure and tribological behavior of coatings were investigated. The hardness and tribological performance of coatings were enhanced by adding Mo. There was a threshold content of Mo concerning with tribological performance of Stellite 12 matrix coatings. The 12.0 wt% Mo modified Stellite 12 coating kept more outstanding tribological performance, which was due to the high hardness, in-situ synthesized solid lubricants , friction film and the net structure of complex carbides .

Biomass hydropyrolysis vapor upgrading (HPVU) is a promising approach for biofuel production, where metallic catalysts play a key role in oxygen removal and aromatic hydrocarbon formation. In this study, Pd/HZSM-5 and Mo/γAl 2 O 3 catalysts were prepared and utilized individually or in combination to investigate their effects on poplar HPVU in a continuous-flow reactor. Meanwhile, the influence of upgrading temperature on hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reactions was studied. At an upgrading temperature of 400 ℃, combination of Pd/HZSM-5 and Mo/γAl₂O₃ resulted in an organic phase yield of 9.19 wt%. The mass yield and selectivity of aromatic hydrocarbons reached 8.13 wt% and 93.4 %, respectively, with selectivity of C8 + monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons accounting for 56.7 %. The overall mass balance was 96.2 %. The presence of Pd promotes hydrogenation and hydroalkylation reactions, while Mo/γAl₂O₃ enhances deoxygenation. Additionally, its mesoporous structure facilitates reactant diffusion. The density functional theory calculations confirmed that Pd could efficiently activate H 2 and thus provide hydrogen radicals for HDO on Mo/γAl₂O₃ surface, which revealed the synergistic effect of these two catalysts. This study highlights that noble-metal catalyst aided by oxophilic metal catalyst can make a significant contribution to biomass HPVU.

The development of efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in neutral media remains a challenge due to their slow kinetics and low conductivity. Metal selenides are widely used as HER catalysts, but their structural stabilities are not good and the HER performances in neutral media need to be improved. Herein, we report the direct growth of Mo-doped CuSe (Mo 0.33 Cu 0.67 Se) nanosheets with edge-amorphization on Ni foam (NF) through a facile one-pot solvothermal method for the first time, which are inexpensive and possess high-HER performances in neutral media. It was found that Mo 0.33 Cu 0.67 Se only requires an overvoltage of 55 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm −2 (with a Tafel slope of 75 mV dec -1 ), which is superior to commercial 20 % Pt/C (73 mV). Doping CuSe with Mo could lead to amorphization of the edges of nanosheets, and both experimental and theoretical results verify that this structure is beneficial for reducing the oxidative dissolution of Se ion and improving stability. Meanwhile, it also optimizes the free energy of H 2 O dissociation, hydrogen adsorption and desorption, thereby effectively enhancing the performance of electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution in neutral media.

Integrated CO2 capture and conversion (ICCC), which simultaneously achieves CO2 enrichment and in situ conversion, represents a promising strategy for reducing CO2 emissions. Dual-function materials (DFMs) that exhibit stable and highly efficient adsorption and catalytic conversion properties are essential to the success of this strategy. In this study, we developed novel Mo/Fe-doped CaO-based DFMs for the integrated CO2 capture and reverse water–gas shift (ICCC–RWGS) process. The synthesized DFMs was evaluated through adsorption–conversion cyclic experiments in a fixed-bed reactor, complemented by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) mapping, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterizations. The results indicate that the generated composites with a specialized structure not only provide stable support for CaO but also regulate the RWGS process. Specifically, the formation of Ca2Fe2O5 facilitates the hydrogenation of CaCO3 via redox reactions, while the generation of CaMoO4 and Ca2FeMoO6 alleviates both the volume-change effects of CaO caused by CO2 adsorption–hydrogenation cycles and the carbon deposition side reactions caused by Fe. DFMs with a Mo/Fe mass ratio of 1:9 exhibited a CO2 capture capacity of 14.8 mmol/g DFM, a CO yield of 11.4 mmol/g DFM, and good cyclic properties at 650 °C, making it a promising DFM for ICCC–RWGS. In conclusion, the utilization of superstructures with superior redox reactivity and structural stability, such as perovskite and spinel, offers valuable insights into the design of DFMs for ICCC.

Exploration of noble-metal-free, highly-efficient and durable catalysts for Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remains a challenge. In this work, the development of carbon-coated cobalt-molybdenum-phosphide nanosheets supported on carbon cloth (Co-Mo-P@C) is successfully demonstrated. To obtain a better electrocatalystic performance, the different amount of glucose was added into the reaction system during hydrothermal process. Benefiting from the 2D structure, high electrical conductivity and sufficient active sites, the Co-Mo-P@C contained 0.5 mmol glucose exhibits relatively good catalytic activity for HER with low over poentials at −96 mV and −162 mV @ 10 mA cm −2 in acidic and alkaline medias respectively and the Tafel slope of 52.9 mV dec −1 and 34.3 mV dec −1 . Additionally, the catalyst also shows good durability in the both electrolytes.

Developing low-cost, highly efficient and stable non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is crucial for promoting large-scale alkaline water electrolysis. Here, we report a novel self-supporting Ni(OH) x /Mo-Ni 3 S 2 nanosheet heterostructure grown on nickel foam, demonstrating outstanding catalytic performance for alkaline HER. This heterostructure electrocatalyst exhibits an exceptionally low overpotential of just 33 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH solution, surpassing commercial Pt/C catalyst. Moreover, it can operate continuously for 300 h at a high current density of around 130 mA cm −2 . Both experimental and theoretical calculations show that strong electronic coupling at the heterojunction interface optimizes the adsorption energy of molecular water and hydrogen on active sites, thereby enhancing the intrinsic activity. This work offers novel insights for designing high-performance alkaline HER electrocatalysts through coupling doping and heterostructure engineering.

The development of fast and high yield route for large scale synthesis porous TiO 2 based catalyst has attracted widespread concern in the field of optoelectronic and catalysis. Up to now, the facile synthesis of mesoporous TiO 2 based composite is still limited to wet chemical synthesis approach (hydrothermal, phase transformation, or sol-gel method etc.). Here, we develop a polyethyleneimine-assisted solvent-free strategy to synthesize of ionic liquid-derived Mo-based mesoporous TiO 2 composite, with molybdenum sites uniformly distributed on TiO 2 matrix. As-synthesized ionic liquid-derived mesoporous MoO x /TiO 2 composite is composed of uniform nano-sized anatase particles and connected by worm-like mesoporous channel. Moreover, the calcination conditions and loading amount of molybdenum-containing ionic liquid have been further optimized. These distinct characteristics endow the prospective MoO x /TiO 2 composite with excellent performance in catalytic oxidation reaction, which can remove refractory organic sulfur compound in the model fuel effectively. Our work opens a new solvent-free avenue to synthesis porous metal based ionic liquids/TiO 2 composite.

Electrochemical water splitting is a crucial pathway for clean hydrogen production, but hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrodes often suffer from poor performance in alkaline conditions due to sluggish kinetics and weak durability. In this work, ammonium tetrathiomolybdate ((NH4)2MoS4) is used as a dual-functional precursor to transform Ni(OH)2 nanosheets into 3D Mo–Ni3S2 nanostructures. The fabricated electrode, Mo–Ni3S2/Nickel Foam, with an enlarged electrochemical active surface area, exhibits a low overpotential of 166 mV at 100 mA cm–2 in 1 M KOH and outstanding durability (>300 h). When integrated into anion-exchange membrane electrolyzers (AEMWE), it maintains stability for over 360 h at 500 mA cm–2. The enhanced performance could potentially be attributed to the hierarchical nanostructure that provides abundant active sites, and the in situ fabrication method ensures the durability of the electrode.

Na 3.5 MnCr 0.5 Ti 0.5 (PO 4 ) 3 (NMCrTP) demonstrates significant development potential as a cathode material for sodium-ion batteries owing to its low cost and high discharge plateau. However, the severe potential hysteresis phenomenon caused by Mn·Na anti-site defects (Mn·Na-ASD) of Mn 2+ residing in Na vacancies is hindering its performance release. Here, a strategy is proposed to alleviate the anti-site defects in NMCrTP through doping Mo at the Ti sites using the sol–gel method. Rietveld refinement results confirm that the content of Mn·Na-ASD decreases from 6.30% in NMCrTP/C to 0.98% in NMCrTP/C-0.05Mo. Meanwhile, Hall effect measurements verify that the Mo donor induces the carrier-type transformation from p-type to n-type, enhancing electronic conductivity from 3.07 × 10 −3 to 3.61 × 10 −3 S cm −1 . Moreover, the ion diffusion coefficient measured by GITT increases from 3.96 × 10 −12 to 1.34 × 10 −11 cm 2 /s. In result, the mean discharge potential of the NMCrTP/C-0.05Mo cathode increases from 2.62 V (vs. Na + /Na) to 3.47 V, and the electrochemical polarization decreases from ΔV = 0.20 to 0.09 V. As expected, the NMCrTP/C-0.05Mo cathode delivers an excellent rate performance of 88.4 mAh g −1 at a high rate of 10 C. This work presents an effective strategy to alleviate the potential hysteresis of the NMCrTP cathode for high-rate SIBs.

Metallic glasses (MGs), despite exhibiting superior electrochemical catalytic and sensing activity to crystalline solids, remain difficult to rationally design because the structural units that directly correlate to active sites are poorly resolved. Here, we address this challenge by showing that a small change in Ni content (±4 at%) in Ni-Mo-P-B MGs gives precise control of short‑range-ordered (SRO) polyhedral motifs and their medium‑range connections. Synchrotron X-ray analysis reveals that the Ni 64 Mo 16 P 16 B 4 (Ni 64 ) stabilizes ten-coordinated (Z10) bi-capped square archimedean antiprisms (BSAPs) as the dominant SRO polyhedral, whereas Ni 60 Mo 20 P 16 B 4 (Ni 60 ) and Ni 68 Mo 12 P 16 B 4 (Ni 68 ) are dominated by nine-coordinate (Z9) tricapped trigonal prisms (TTPs). Crucially, this engineered SRO dramatically enhances the electrochemical glucose sensing: Ni 64 delivers ultrahigh sensitivity, a wide linear range, and stable operation over seven days, whose performance is far superior to conventional crystalline probes. First-principles calculations reveal that only at a Ni/Mo ratio of 4 does short-range chemical ordering favor the highly symmetric Z10 BSAPs with two Mo atoms occupying the two polyhedral caps. These Mo‑capped Z10 clusters optimally modulate Mo-Ni electronic interactions, lowering the *OH adsorption barrier and boosting catalytic reactivity. A miniaturized glucose sensor was fabricated by integrated the MG with a screen-printed electrode, demonstrating the practical applicability. Notably, we found that the dominant polyhedra show homology to local building blocks of nearby crystalline phases, suggesting that amorphous structures inherit crystal-like motifs that govern both stability and properties. Our work establishes an atomic-scale structural engineering paradigm for MG design, bridging crystalline-amorphous structural homology with functional optimization, and deepening the understanding of structure–property correlations in MG systems.

The lower thermodynamic potential of the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) makes it an ideal alternative to the conventional oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, most Ni-based UOR catalysts face intrinsic limitations due to the high oxidation potential of Ni3+, coupled with insufficient selectivity. Herein, F/Mo codoped Ni-based catalyst F-MoNiP is obtained with an amorphous nanotube structure. The F/Mo codoped strategy enhances UOR activity by facilitating the formation of catalytically active NiOOH species at low overpotential and simultaneously promotes urea decomposition through the environmentally preferred carbonate pathway. Moreover, the presence of F effectively suppresses the OH– adsorption, thereby minimizing the competition with OER. This synergistic optimization enables F-MoNiP to achieve exceptional catalytic performance, operating at a cell voltage of 1.395 V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm–2 in urea-assisted electrolysis of water. These findings offer a sustainable and energy-efficient route for hydrogen production through urea electrolysis.
