Rapid development of highly integrated electronic and telecommunication devices has led to urgent demands for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials that incorporate flame retardancy, and more desirably the early fire detection ability, due to the potential fire hazards caused by heat propagation and thermal failure of the devices during operation. Here, multifunctional flexible films having the main dual functions of high EMI shielding performance and repeatable fire detection ability are fabricated by vacuum filtration of the mixture of MXene and aramid nanofiber (ANF) suspensions. ANFs serve to reinforce MXene films via the formation of hydrogen bonding between the carbonyl groups of ANFs and the hydroxyl groups of MXene. When the ANF content is 20 wt %, the tensile strength of the film is increased from 24.6 MPa for a pure MXene film to 79.5 MPa, and such a composite film (9 μm thickness) exhibits a high EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) value of ∼40 dB and a specific SE (SSE) value of 4361.1 dB/mm. Upon fire exposure, the composite films can trigger the fire detection system within 10 s owing to the thermoelectric property of MXene. The self-extinguishing feature of ANFs ensures the structural integrity of the films during burning, thus allowing for continuous alarm signals. Moreover, the films also exhibit excellent Joule heating and photothermal conversion performances with rapid response and sufficient heating reliability.

The efficient utilization of solar energy is a prominent problem in the field of energy in today’s society. The judicious combination of nanofluid and direct absorption solar collector (DASC) is one of the effective ways to solve this problem. Two-dimensional nanomaterials have attracted significant research attentions because of their unique optical and thermophysical properties. In this paper, two-dimensional MXene nanosheets were prepared by in-situ etching. Then different concentrations (5, 10, 20, 40, 60 ppm, respectively) of MXene and graphene nanofluids were obtained by two-step method. The optical and thermal conductivity of the two nanofluids were further tested. The MXene nanofluids exhibited advanced optical properties due to the LSPR effect of MXene nanosheets , but the graphene nanofluids had higher thermal conductivity . When the concentration was 20 ppm, the photothermal conversion efficiency of MXene nanofluids reached a maximum of 63.35%, which was 4.34% higher than that of graphene nanofluids. Finally, through the analysis of local conversion efficiency, the working conditions of DASC were further optimized.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are candidates for use in advanced molecular separation and water treatment. Among them, MXenes are cutting-edge two-dimensional (2D) materials with favorable properties such as high hydrophilicity, adjustable interlayer spacing, high mechanical strength, and structural stability. Therefore, they can be used to construct advanced lamellar membranes to ensure enhanced separation performance of modified membranes. Here, we prepared novel stable lamellar membranes through electrostatic attraction between polycation polyethyleneimine (PEI) and a negatively charged MXene, with hydrogen bond formation between their functional groups. By changing the pH of the suspension, the interlayer d-spacing of the prepared membrane could be altered to achieve precise molecular separation and ultrahigh organic solvent penetration. Furthermore, inserting PEI into the interlayer d-spacing of the membrane did not hinder the passage of water molecules. The prepared pH = 2-MXene-PEI membrane for dyes larger than 1.5 nm exhibited a rejection rate of greater than 96%, and the pH = 10-MXene-PEI membrane had a rejection rate of greater than 96% for dyes larger than 1.6 nm. In addition, the optimized MXene-PEI membranes showed channel stability. In this work, high-performance, stable, 2D MXene-PEI membranes with tunable nanochannels were developed. These membranes have great potential for use in precise molecular separation applications.

The chlorine evolution reaction (CER) is a crucial step in the production of chlorine gas and active chlorine by chlor-alkali electrolysis. Currently, the endeavor to fabricate electrodes capable of yielding high current density at minimal overpotential remains a central challenge in advancing the realm of chlorine evolution reactions. Here, we grow TiO 2 and RuO 2 on MXene@carbon cloth (CC) through the favorable affinity and induced deposition effect between the surface functional groups of MXene and the metal. A self-supported electrode (RuTiO 2 /MXene@CC) with strong binding at the electrocatalyst–support interface and weak adhesion at electrocatalyst–bubble interface is constructed. The RuTiO 2 /MXene@CC can reduce the electron density of RuO 2 by regulating the electron redistribution at the heterogeneous interface, thus enhancing the adsorption of Cl − . RuTiO 2 /MXene@CC could achieve a high current density of 1000 mA·cm − 2 at a small overpotential of 220 mV, superior to commercial dimensionally stable anodes (DSA). This study provides a new strategy for constructing efficient CER catalysts at high current density.

Designing lightweight microwave absorbers that simultaneously achieve strong attenuation and broad bandwidth remains a major challenge. Here, we report a multidimensional CoS 2 /C/MXene heterostructure constructed through electrospinning and in-situ sulfidation, which integrates 0D CoS 2 nanoparticles, 2D MXene nanosheets, and a 1D conductive carbon-fiber network. This architecture generates abundant heterogeneous interfaces and continuous electron pathways, enabling synergistic magnetic-dielectric coupling and optimized impedance matching. The resulting composite achieves a minimum reflection loss of ‒70.86 dB at 10.6 GHz and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.64 GHz at a low filler loading of 3 wt%. DFT calculations reveal significant interfacial charge transfer and built-in electric field formation, corroborating the enhanced polarization and conduction losses. Moreover, the composite exhibits excellent thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and mechanical flexibility. This work demonstrates an efficient strategy for constructing high-performance, low-density microwave absorbers through multidimensional heterostructure engineering.

The creation of high-efficient MXene-based flame retardants to cope with the fire hazards of polymer composites remained an intractable challenge. Hence, this work explored a facile strategy to synthesize MXene-based nanohybrids (MXene@LDH) by in situ growth of layered double hydroxides (CoAl-LDH) on the surface of MXene in anticipation of constructing an efficient flame retardant system. The results indicated that the integration of LDH prevented the stacking of MXene nanosheets and enhanced the dispersion of MXene in EP matrix, endowing EP composites with excellent thermal properties and flame retardancy. With the addition of 2 wt% MXene@LDH, EP composites exhibited reduced the maximum mass loss rate (R max ) of 28.5%, increased residual char and led to 25.3% reduction in PHRR and a drop of 24.4% in THR, compared to those of neat EP. Furthermore, EP/2 wt% MXene@LDH composites also demonstrated superior smoke suppression performance, mainly reflected by the 38.5%, 37.8%, 33.8% and 31.2% reduction in PSPR, TSP, PCO and PCO 2 , respectively, together with a 52.0% decline in smoke factor (SF), compared to those of pure EP. The improved fire safety of EP composites was attributed to the catalytic charring and attenuation effect of the transition metal oxides , coupled with the barrier effect of the nanosheets and the cooling effect, gas-phase dilution effect of LDH.

Efficient, green and stable catalysis has always been the core concept of enzyme catalysis in industrial processes for manufacturing. Therefore, we construct a new strategy with photothermal interfacial molecular transfer for green and efficient biodiesel catalysis. We encapsulate Candida albicans lipase B (CalB) in a γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic framework (γ-CD-MOF) loading with Ti 3 C 2 T X by in situ growth and electrostatic assembly. The γ-CD-MOF not only protects the fragile enzyme, but also enhances the catalytic performance through the synergistic effects of porous adsorption (MOF pore structure) and interfacial enrichment (cyclodextrins host-guest assembly structure) for accelerating substrate transfer (642.6 %). The CalB@γ-CD-MOF/MXene-i activity can be regulated up to 274.6 % by exposure to near-infrared (NIR). Importantly, CalB@γ-CD-MOF/MXene-i achieves 93.3 % biodiesel conversion under NIR and maintained 86.9 % activity after 6 cycles. Meanwhile, the MXene after the CalB@γ-CD-MOF/MXene catalytic cycle can be almost completely recovered. We verify the mechanism of high catalytic activity of γ-CD-MOF and rationalize the mechanism of CD molecular channel by DFT. Therefore, this highly selective enzyme catalytic platform offers new possibilities for green and efficient preparation of bioenergy .

Traditional power technologies are constrained by size and endurance, whereas nanogenerators offer lightweight, environmentally friendly, and sustainable energy solutions. In this study, an MXene/BaTiO3/PAN composite nanofiber membrane was developed using electrospinning technology. The incorporation of BaTiO3 nanoparticles and two-dimensional MXene flakes significantly enhanced the piezoelectric properties of the PAN matrix, resulting in an output voltage of 6.45 V and a current of 308 nA-approximately four times higher than that of pure PAN. Notably, piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) were integrated into one single device, addressing the low output and stability issues of traditional PENGs. The integrated device achieved a higher stable output voltage of 12–14 V and retained stable performance over 5000 cycles. Moreover, the MXene component endowed the nanofiber membrane with excellent photothermal properties, achieving a temperature rise of 42 °C under 1 W cm−2 solar irradiation. This demonstrates its potential for human joint photothermal therapy and underscores its value for developing high-performance self-powered sensors and wearable electronic devices.

The electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is widely recognized as a promising pathway for sustainable energy conversion and storage. Recently, plasmonic enhancement has attracted increasing attention as an effective strategy to improve HER performance by harvesting incident light. However, most metal nanoparticles (NPs) with excellent HER catalytic activity, such as Pt, exhibit a negligible localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, thereby limiting their overall efficiency. In this study, we constructed a Pt NPs–Ti3C2 MXene hybrid electrocatalyst via an in situ reduction approach, in which Ti3C2 MXene simultaneously acted as the reductant, structural support, and plasmonic mediator. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, Ti3C2 MXene generated a strong LSPR effect, and the resulting hot electrons were efficiently injected into the Pt NPs/Ti3C2 MXene interface, where they actively contributed to the HER process. Consequently, the hybrid catalyst achieved an overpotential as low as 51 mV at 10 mA cm–2 and a favorable Tafel slope of 61.29 mV dec–1 while maintaining excellent stability. Finite element simulations further confirmed that the LSPR-induced local field enhancement concentrated hot electrons at the Pt NPs/Ti3C2 MXene interface, thereby lowering the activation barrier and accelerating the charge transfer. Overall, this work demonstrates a simple yet effective plasmon–catalyst coupling strategy that provides valuable insights for the design of next-generation plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysts for efficient hydrogen production.

The interaction between the electrode and electrolyte is a critical determinant of the charge storage rate in photorechargeable supercapacitors. Enhancing the electrode’s affinity for the electrolyte is commonly achieved by modifying the electrode surface with polar functional groups and increasing its porosity. However, finely tailored methods specific to particular electrodes remain underdeveloped. In this study, based on DFT calculations, we propose the hybridization of MXene with 4-aminoazobenzene-4′-sulfonic acid sodium to enhance the interfacial affinity between the electrode and electrolyte. Our findings reveal that the −SO3 group facilitates electron transfer from MXene to azo molecules, reducing the desolvation energy of Li+ in electrolytes and thereby increasing wettability. Consequently, the hybrid electrode exhibits an impressive area-specific capacity of 2837.5 mF/cm2. Furthermore, the prepared flexible supercapacitor demonstrates high energy density, retains nearly 100% of its capacitance after 20,000 charge–discharge cycles, and maintains 90% capacitance retention after 5000 bending cycles. When integrated with tandem perovskite solar cells, the photorechargeable supercapacitor effectively stores photogenerated charges, achieving an overall conversion efficiency of 19.4%. These findings underscore the exceptional electrochemical performance of the developed hybrid electrode and its potential for a wide range of energy storage applications.

In electrochemical immunoassays, great breakthroughs have been made in ultrasensitive detection of tumor markers by amplifying signals with coreaction accelerators. Herein, carbon nitrides with nitrogen vacancies (CNNVs) are proposed as emitter, due to the introduction of nitrogen vacancies this emitter has better ECL efficiency, the phenomena of interface electron transfer and electrode passivation are improved. At the same time, it can also promote the electrochemical reduction of coreactant, making it an attractive and potential emitter. The electrode was modified with Ag-Ti 3 C 2 MXene. It not only accelerates electron transfer and increases the effective working area of the electrode, but also acts as a coreaction accelerator to promote the electrochemical reduction of the coreactant K 2 S 2 O 8 , resulting in a strong ECL signal. The immunosensor showed a good linear relationship in the range of 10 −5 -100 ng/mL with a detection limit of 0.36 fg/mL. In addition, the excellent properties of good specificity and ultra-high stability provide an effective method for ultra-sensitive immunoassays.

Mechanically strong and electrically conducting fibers, particularly those with high specific capacitances, are promising fiber-shaped electrodes for fiber- and textile-based energy storage devices like fiber-shaped supercapacitors (FSCs). However, a high loading of fillers or bridging agents is commonly required to fabricate fiber electrodes with good mechanical strength , which compromises electrical conductivity and energy storage performance. Herein, an easily scalable wet-spinning strategy is reported to fabricate multifunctional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/carbon nanotubes (MXene/CNT) hybrid fibers from a harmonious mixture of MXene and CNT in water and using acetic acid as a coagulation bath . The hybrid fiber achieved high strength (61 ± 7 MPa), good conductivity (1142.08 ± 40.04 S cm −1 ) and excellent energy storage performance (∼295 F g −1 at 5 mV s −1 ) at a very low CNT content of ∼1 wt%. When CNT loading increased to ∼9 wt%, the maximum strain at broken reached 161 ± 19 MPa and conductivity further increased to 1715 ± 22 S cm −1 . The excellent mechanical performance allows hybrid fibers to be knitted into textiles for energy storage textiles. The assembled FSCs exhibit energy and power densities of ∼6.08 mW h cm −3 and ∼6440 mW cm −3 , respectively. The excellent performance of MXene/CNT fiber and good feasibility for scalable production will open up new opportunities for the development of wearable and textile-based devices in the near future.
