Aramid fiber (AF)-reinforced composites face significant limitations in applications such as deep-sea equipment and aerospace due to their poor interfacial compatibility and low bonding strength. This study presents an innovative and scalable strategy for constructing a nano-hierarchical reinforcement interface on AF to fundamentally address this issue. A multifunctional interlayer was first constructed using polyethyleneimine (PEI) and polydopamine (PDA), on which both carboxylated and aminated carbon nanotubes (COOH-CNTs and NH 2 -CNTs) were co-anchored to produce the final product, denoted as C/N-CNTs-PP-AF. The distinctive dual-CNT configuration produced a stable electrical resistance in the range of 51.57–84.20 MΩ by forming a continuous conductive network. More importantly, C/N-CNTs-PP-AF/unsaturated polyester (UP) composites exhibited significant enhancement in properties, which corresponded to an interfacial strength of 39.60 MPa (an 81.15% increase) and tensile strength of 1404.25 MPa (an 89.45% improvement). The approach leverages multifaceted interfacial interactions to enable stable CNT grafting and enhanced adhesion. This work not only effectively addresses weak bonding at the AF/UP interface but also establishes a new paradigm for the design of high-performance fiber-reinforced composites with integrated functionalities.

A colorimetric assay based on the Fe/Al bimetallic organic framework NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe, Al) was developed for the sensitive detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7), a critical pathogen threatening food safety. The framework’s high specific surface area facilitated efficient antibody immobilization, whereas the incorporation of Al 3+ enhanced electron transfer between Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ , thereby significantly boosting peroxidase activity. The optimized NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe, Al) exhibited 1.4-fold and 4.9-fold higher relative absorbance than NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe) and NH 2 -MIL-53(Al), respectively. And it demonstrated 40-fold and 2-fold greater affinity for TMB and H 2 O 2 , respectively, compared to the natural enzyme. By integrating a dual-recognition system based on antibody and aptamer, the method enabled rapid detection with a limit of detection of 10 1 CFU/mL in colorimetric mode. Its successful application in complex matrices, including lettuce, juice, pool water, and chocolate milk, had yielded satisfactory recovery and precision, confirming its promising potential for food safety monitoring.

A multifunctional polyethyleneimine-graphene oxide/organo-vermiculite composite (PGO/OVt) was successfully fabricated by introducing OVt (modified by dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, 1227) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) onto GO. For PGO/OVt, the proportion of GO was 25%, while OVt accounted for 75%, which can not only effectively reduce the cost of GO-doped adsorbents, but also ensure a high adsorption efficiency. Various analyses, including FT-IR, XPS, AFM, SEM, TEM, TG-DTG, and XRD were used to characterize the structures and surfaces of PGO/OVt. The surface properties of graphene oxide (GO), the hydrophobicity of OVt, and abundant amino functional groups in polyethyleneimine made PGO/OVt an excellent, versatile adsorbent of Congo Red (CR) and Acid Red 1 (AR-1) in single and binary-dyes system. In single-dye systems, due to the existence of hydrogen bonding, π-π, hydrophobic, and electrostatic interactions between adsorbent and dyes, PGO/OVt exhibited excellent adsorption capacities of 570 mg/g and 365 mg/g for CR and AR-1, respectively. The adsorption processes were well described by pseudo-second-order kinetics ( R 2 > 0.99) and the Langmuir isotherm model ( R 2 > 0.98). The thermodynamic parameters demonstrated that the adsorption processes were nonspontaneous and endothermic. In the binary-dyes system, the maximum adsorption amount of CR was 491 mg/g, and that of AR-1 was 384 mg/g. The influence intensity factor ( φ ) revealed that the effect between the two components changed from competition to synergy with the variation of initial concentration. The synergistic effect indicated the possible presence of a π-π stacking effect between the molecules of adsorbed and dissociative dyes. Based on the obtained results, the resulting PGO/OVt was an efficient, and a lower cost adsorbent containing GO (GO-doped adsorbent). This work provided a reference for the development of GO composite adsorbents.

Pt/C is one of the most favorable catalysts with high catalytic activity used in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the synthesis of Pt/C with superior durability is still a significant challenge. Here, we introduced a simple technique to fabricate a Pt/N-C catalyst, having ultrasmall Pt nanocrystals encapsulated inside a nitrogen-doped carbon support, which is derived by the UiO-66-NH2 (MOF) using an impregnation technique, followed by a pyrolysis process. This Pt/N-C displays ORR activity and durability in alkaline solution with a half-wave potential of 0.90 V (vs RHE), limited diffusion current density of 5.5 mA cm–2, and only 5 mV deterioration in half-wave potential after testing 20,000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. In addition, it also shows good performance in acidic solution. In addition, Zn–air batteries (ZABs) assembled using the Pt/N-C air electrode display a high specific capacity of 825 mAh g–1, a high peak power density of 372 mW cm–2, and 208 h long cycle life. This offers an innovative approach for developing noble metal-based catalysts with unusual activity, stability, and a promising future for applications in metal–air batteries and fuel cells.

In this work, an S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst composed of Fe-MOF-NH 2 -modified BiOCl (denoted as BFN) was successfully prepared via a one-step hydrothermal technique for the efficient photocatalytic (PC) decomposition of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl). The morphology, crystal structure, composition, specific surface area, and photoelectric characteristics of BFN were systematically characterized using multiple techniques. XRD patterns confirm the successful fabrication of Fe-MOF-NH 2 /BiOCl (BFN) heterostructures. Introducing Fe-MOF-NH 2 shrinks BiOCl lattices via partial replacement of Bi 3+ with smaller Fe 3+ , which further exposes more active BiOCl (110) facets. SEM images display BiOCl nanosheets evenly grown on spindle hexagonal Fe-MOF-NH 2 to create compact heterointerfaces. This structure optimizes pore configuration and light capture. Owing to its elaborate heterojunction and regulated crystal texture, BET data confirm the optimal BFN possesses a high specific surface area of 116.2 m 2 ‧g −1 . UV–vis DRS further verifies a 420 nm red shift in its light absorption edge. XPS and EPR analyses reveal that the oxygen vacancy concentration in the heterojunction is significantly increased, 3 and 8 times higher compared to those of Fe-MOF-NH 2 and BiOCl, respectively. The compact S-scheme heterojunction constructs a directional charge-carrier transfer pathway. This structure strongly suppresses photocarrier recombination while preserving robust redox potentials. Higher photocurrent density and lower EIS impedance jointly confirm accelerated charge separation. PC experiments demonstrate that the 70% BFN sample achieves markedly higher degradation efficiency for TC-HCl under Light-emitting diode (LED) lamp irradiation compared with the individual components, and the degradation process involves multiple reactive species, including h + , ·O 2 − , and ·OH. LC-MS analysis revealed three possible degradation pathways, and hydroponic toxicity tests using mung bean as the model plant confirmed that the TC-HCl degradation products exhibit substantially reduced biotoxicity and even exert a certain growth-promoting effect. This study unveils the quadruple synergism of extended light absorption, S-scheme carrier migration, abundant oxygen vacancies and enhanced surface adsorption, offering experimental and theoretical support for bismuth/MOF photocatalysts in antibiotic wastewater remediation and agricultural ecological protection.

Synthesis of a B-doped FeMn dual-atom catalyst (DAC), NH 2 –Fe 1 B 2 N 2 –Mn 1 B 1 N 2 . • Regulation of the electronic asymmetry of NH 2 –Fe 1 B 2 N 2 –Mn 1 B 1 N 2 via first-coordination-shell B doping. • B doping induces pronounced local electronic asymmetry and causes d-band shifts. • Improved understanding of the microscopic mechanism of peroxymonosulfate activation over DACs. • Introduction of a general strategy for engineering asymmetric electronic structures in dual-atom catalysts. • Bridging a critical gap between catalyst design and nonradical advanced oxidation processes. Dual-atom catalysts (DACs) are promising for advanced oxidation processes because they inherit the advantages of single-atom catalysts. However, the intrinsic symmetry of their electronic structures limits peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and selective nonradical-pathway generation, constraining their practical application. Heteroatom doping in the first coordination shell effectively breaks the electronic symmetry of DACs; however, the mechanism governing selective singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) generation remains unclear. Herein, a B-doped FeMn DAC is synthesized via pyrolysis using boric acid and ZIF-8 as the B and N sources, respectively, to enhance PMS activation and selective 1 O 2 generation. Characterization results and density functional theory calculations reveal that B doping regulates the formation of an axial NH 2 –Fe 1 B 2 N 2 –Mn 1 B 1 N 2 asymmetric electronic structure. In the NH 2 –Fe 1 B 2 N 2 –Mn 1 B 1 N 2 /PMS system, PMS highly selectively adsorbs on the catalyst and coordinates with Mn in a bidentate configuration and Fe serves as an electron-density-regulation center. Through long-range electronic coupling, the active-site electronic structure is optimized. The asymmetric electronic structure considerably enhances antibiotic degradation efficiency in water (97.8%) and increases the reaction rate ( k = 0.12 min −1 ). Overall, this study precisely regulates the electronic asymmetry of NH 2 –Fe 1 B 2 N 2 –Mn 1 B 1 N 2 through first-coordination-shell B doping, elucidates the synergistic mechanism of dual atoms in targeted 1 O 2 generation, and provides a new perspective for designing asymmetric electronic-structure catalysts for advanced oxidation applications. Bio-based porous adsorbents for multicomponent air purification are often constrained by limited active-site density, insufficient control over hierarchical pore architectures, and inadequate mechanical robustness. Herein, chitosan was functionalized with poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers of different generations and combined with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and UiO-66-NH 2 to construct nitrogen-enriched composite aerogels. The effects of PAMAM generation and UiO-66-NH 2 loading on the pore architecture, surface chemistry, mechanical response, and pollutant-capture performance of the aerogels were systematically evaluated. The optimized CG 2 MUNA-2 aerogel exhibited a well-connected porous network and sustained a compressive stress of 13.62 MPa at 80% strain. It achieved a CO 2 uptake of 0.64 mmol·g −1 at 273.15 K and a formaldehyde adsorption capacity of 1.57 mmol g −1 , while retaining 92.4% of its initial formaldehyde adsorption capacity after five adsorption-desorption cycles. When incorporated into cigarette filter rods, CG 2 MUNA-2 reduced CO, CO 2 , and total particulate matter by 30.87%, 14.01%, and 62.58%, respectively. Its superior overall performance was associated with a favorable balance among accessible amine functionalities, pore connectivity, and UiO-66-NH 2 dispersion. These results indicate that the coordinated regulation of PAMAM generation and MOF loading offers a rational materials-design strategy for developing biopolymer-based aerogels for multicomponent air-pollutant capture and cigarette-smoke purification. A synergistic MgO@UiO-66-NH₂ nanocomposite was prepared for CTL sensing. • The proposed CTL sensor enables rapid, non-invasive detection of isopropanol. • The sensor exhibits a wide linear range (0.04–120 mg/L) and good stability. • This method offers a potential approach for preclinical lung cancer screening via exhaled breath analysis. Isopropanol (IPA) has been identified as a potential biomarker for lung cancer, and the rapid detection of IPA in exhaled breath may offer a promising strategy for lung cancer screening. In this study, rod-like MgO, MnO₂, and ZnO, along with natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), were synthesized and used as carriers to fabricate nanocomposites with a Zr-based metal–organic framework (UiO-66-NH₂). Their catalytic activities toward IPA were evaluated using cataluminescence (CTL) measurements. MgO@UiO-66-NH₂ exhibited the highest catalytic activity, attributed to the synergistic effect between MgO and UiO-66-NH₂ enhancing the redox capacity in the presence of ozone. Based on this composite, a rapid CTL method was developed for IPA detection in exhaled breath. The intra-sensor precision (nine repeated measurements on the same sensor) gave a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.41%; inter-sensor reproducibility (seven different sensors) gave an RSD of 3.81%; and long-term stability over seven weeks showed an RSD of 4.3%. The linear range was 0.04–120 mg/L, with a limit of detection of 0.015 mg/L (S/N = 3). When applied to three healthy human exhaled breath samples, the method achieved spiked recoveries ranging from 90.0% to 105.3%. These results demonstrate that the proposed CTL sensor enables rapid, non-invasive detection of IPA and holds great potential for IPA detection in exhaled breath. Understanding exciton recombination and exciton-phonon coupling in hybrid perovskite single crystals is essential for developing high-performance linear and nonlinear optoelectronic devices. Herein, we systematically investigate the photophysical processes in formamidinium lead bromide (CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3 ) single crystals through steady-state photoluminescence (PL), temperature-dependent spectroscopy, time-resolved PL, and Raman analysis. Under 405 nm excitation, dual emission peaks at 555 and 577 nm are assigned to free exciton (FE) and bound exciton (BE) recombination. Time-resolved PL measurements reveal nanosecond-scale lifetimes for FE and longer sub-microsecond lifetimes for BE. Under 800 nm excitation, a single 567 nm emission with a microsecond lifetime is observed, demonstrating two-photon absorption (2PA) induced localization and reabsorption-mediated relaxation. Temperature-dependent PL reveals an activation energy of 72 meV derived from Arrhenius fitting, while the monotonic linewidth broadening is well described by the Boson model with a longitudinal optical phonon energy of 24 meV. An anomalous evolution of the emission features around ∼160 K suggests a possible phase transition, which modulates exciton-phonon coupling and recombination dynamics. Raman spectroscopy further confirms strong electron-phonon interaction and lattice anharmonicity. These results establish a unified picture of FE-BE competition and 2PA-dominated recombination dynamics in CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3 , providing fundamental insight for perovskite-based lasers, nonlinear photonics, and scintillation devices.

A dual-modulation strategy improved the stability of anthocyanin-based indicator patches. • Phenolic copigmentation enhanced thermal stability of anthocyanins. • UiO-66-NH 2 provided effective UV protection and additional pigment immobilization. • The anthocyanin-based patch maintained color integrity for more than 6 months. • The anthocyanin-based patch was used to monitor the freshness of shrimp. Anthocyanins are natural pH-sensitive pigments with potential for intelligent food packaging, but their poor stability under environmental stress limits practical use. Herein, a highly stable intelligent indicator patch was developed by combined incorporation of UiO-66-NH 2 , a metal-organic framework, and 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid. This dual-modulation strategy significantly enhanced anthocyanins stability through hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions. The optimized indicator patch maintained color integrity for over 30 days at ambient temperature and more than 6 months at 4 °C in darkness. It exhibited excellent pH responsiveness and high selectivity to spoilage amines (e.g., NH 3 , dimethylamine, trimethylamine) over common volatile interferents. When applied to Litopenaeus vannamei , the patch's color change correlated strongly with total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) values ( r > 0.93), accurately identifying freshness stages. The indicator patch showed high batch-to-batch reproducibility ( RSD < 5%) and anti-interference capability. This study provides a feasible approach to commercialize anthocyanin-based freshness indicators for intelligent packaging. Download: Download high-res image (316KB) Download: Download full-size image

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) are promising membrane materials for CO2 separation due to their high permeability; however, their limited CO2/N2 selectivity restricts practical application. Herein, mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) were fabricated by incorporating a CO2-molecularly imprinted UiO-66-NH2 filler (MIP@U) into amidoxime-functionalized PIM-1 (AOPIM-1), followed by thermal treatment at 160 or 250 °C under vacuum to regulate the membrane microstructure. Spectroscopic and porosity analyses (FTIR, XRD, and N2 physisorption) show that thermal treatment at 160 °C promoted oxadiazole-ring formation, leading to enhanced subnanometer microporosity and improved CO2/N2 selectivity. In contrast, treatment at 250 °C partially regenerates nitrile groups and generates larger micropores, resulting in higher CO2 permeability but reduced selectivity. The MIP@U filler introduces CO2-recognition cavities and improves interfacial compatibility, enabling synergistic control of polymer microporosity and interfacial transport pathways. The optimized 3 wt % MIP@U/AOPIM-1-TR160 membrane achieves a CO2 permeability of ∼1600 Barrer and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 50.8. The membrane also demonstrates stable performance under pressures up to 12 bar and during 30 h of continuous operation at 2 bar. This study highlights a dual-approach strategy combining thermally tailored PIM chemistry with molecularly imprinted MOF fillers for designing high-performance MMMs for CO2 capture.

Lead-free copper halides have emerged as promising self-trapped exciton (STE) emitters for broadband white-light generation, yet the direct construction of compositionally regulated single-matrix white emitters remains challenging. This study presents an mPEG-NH 2 -directed phase-engineering strategy for the one-step in situ construction of biphasic Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 /CsCu 2 I 3 copper halides. By introducing methoxy polyethylene glycol amine into the ligand-assisted reprecipitation (LARP) process, the local coordination environment and supersaturation-driven nucleation behavior of Cs + , Cu + , and I − species are regulated, enabling the coexistence of blue-emitting Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 and yellow-emitting CsCu 2 I 3 within one crystallization system. The amino and ether oxygen sites of mPEG-NH 2 further promote interfacial coupling with the copper halide matrix, reducing non-radiative STE deactivation and improving radiative recombination. The optimized CCI:3P sample exhibits broadband white-light emission with Commission Internationale de l’Éclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.3236, 0.3347), a photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield of 42.8%, and a prolonged exciton lifetime. A UV-pumped WLED based on CCI:3P emits white light with a correlated color temperature of 6052 K. In addition, the biphasic material exhibits distinct water- and heat-induced luminescence changes, demonstrating stimulus-dependent optical contrast. This work provides a polymer-directed strategy for designing lead-free copper halide emitters with integrated white-light emission and responsive optical functionality.
