The development of a simple, rapid, and sensitive technology for the simultaneous detection of mycotoxins is of great significance in ensuring the safety of foods and drugs. Herein, a fluorescence aptasensor with high sensitivity and reproducibility for the simultaneous detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and ochratoxin A (OTA) was developed. In this sensing system, AFB1 and OTA aptamers were co-immobilized on the surface of magnetic beads (MBs) to form a Y-shaped structure through the principle of complementary base pairing, which were used as recognition probes to specifically capture the target. Activators generated by electron transfer for atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP) was used as signal amplification strategy to improve the sensitivity. The initiator modified at the end of the antibody initiates the ARGET ATRP reaction. Different fluorescence signals were designed to achieve simultaneous detection of OTA and AFB1 with the limit of 18.62 and 1.60 fg/mL for AFB1 and OTA, respectively. In addition, experiments were conducted on three types of samples, and the recoveries of the two mycotoxins ranged from 87.30% to 109.50%, with relative standard deviations ranging from 0.50% to 4.92% under reproducible conditions. The results suggest that the developed aptasensor is sufficient to meet the different regulatory requirements of the two mycotoxins in food and drug safety and shows great potential.

The band gap is one of the significant parameters for nonlinear optical (NLO) materials, which is the key factor in their application band in laser technology. This study reports the synthesis of two rare-earth selenite NLO crystals, namely, RE(HSeO3)(SeO3)(H2O)·(H2O) (RE = Y, Gd), utilizing the hydrothermal technique. The two compounds are isostructural, and both belong to the orthorhombic chiral space group of P212121 and possess three-dimensional structures consisting of two-dimensional rare-earth selenite layers connected by hydrogen bonds (O–H··O). These two compounds exhibit a moderate second harmonic generation intensity of 0.5/0.8 × KDP and wide energy band gaps reaching 4.8 eV. Comprehensive density functional theory analyses based on first-principles were carried out to unravel the relationship between the structural and corresponding properties. This work provides an approach for band gap enlargement in rare-earth selenite systems and is beneficial to the design of future NLO materials.

A hydrogel-based photocatalyst is synthesized by the construction of a hydrogel skeleton using common monomers and subsequent in situ generation of Zn–Cu–S photocatalyst particles. The photocatalytic degradation performance of the hydrogel-based photocatalyst is systematically studied, and the photocatalyst exhibits good removal ability for eosin Y. The composite photocatalyst shows high efficiency at low loading, with a removal rate of up to >98% in 3 hours under sunlight irradiation, without the need for a preliminary dark adsorption process. High removal efficiency was observed, remaining above 95% even after 10 recycling runs, demonstrating the excellent stability of the composite photocatalyst. We thus provide a facile method to construct hydrogel-based photocatalysts that show high application potential in the photocatalytic removal of eosin Y.

UV–vis–NIR photodetectors are of great importance to extensive applications, while they are limited by the low photon utilization and narrow light response range inherent in a single material. To overcome these limitations, we propose the construction of heterojunction photosensitive materials featuring a hollow structure. In this study, Y-type titanylphthalocyanine nanoparticles (Y-TiOPc NPs) and hollow ZnS nanotubes (ZnS NTs) are employed to fabricate a bulk heterojunction photosensitive material (Y-TiOPc NPs:ZnS NTs). This composite material exhibits a significant cavity enhancement effect, resulting from multiple light reflections and outstanding light absorption spanning from 365 to 1060 nm. The photodetector based on Y-TiOPc NPs:ZnS NTs (referred to as Y:ZT-PD) demonstrates remarkable photodetection capabilities, including photomultiplication phenomena. Specifically, it achieves a high external quantum efficiency of 24042%, an impressive photoresponsivity (R) of 101967 mA/W, and an excellent specific detectivity (D*) of 1.56 × 1012 Jones at 0.01 mW/cm2. Additionally, the multiperiod time-resolved photocurrent response curves exhibit rapid and stable responses across different wavelengths. Characterization results indicate that these exceptional performances primarily arise from the cavity enhancement effect of ZnS NTs and the hole-injection effect resulting from interfacial trapped electrons. Consequently, the outstanding performance, coupled with the broad spectral range and stability, positions the hollow bulk heterojunction as a promising material for the next generation of broadband photodetectors.

The sluggish bidirectional conversion rate between Li 2 S n (2 ≤ n ≤ 4) and Li 2 S, coupled with the uncontrolled deposition of Li 2 S, significantly impedes the realization of high-performance lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs). In this study, a metal–organic framework was employed as a precursor for the synthesis of a CoO x –CeO 2− y /C (0 < x < 3/2, 0 < y < 1/2) heterojunction via pyrolysis, which was subsequently introduced onto the cathode side of the polypropylene (PP) separator in LSBs. The modification of CoO x –CeO 2− y /C enhances the kinetics of converting of Li 2 S n to Li 2 S during the discharge process. The Tafel slope for the Li 2 S deposition reaction is reduced to 52.1 mV/dec, representing a 56.6% decrease compared to LSBs with bare PP separator. Conversely, during the charging process, the modification lowers the energy barrier for the Li 2 S decomposition reaction, with the activation energy reduced to 6.12 kJ/mol, indicating a 70.3% decrease relative to LSBs with PP separator only. Consequently, more Li 2 S is promoted to undergo decomposition. The CoO x –CeO 2− y /C heterojunction facilitates uniform deposition of Li 2 S, featuring fine particles and a uniform distribution, after brief potentiostatic charging for decomposition, thereby effectively mitigating the deactivation of sulfur species. Thanks to the enhanced bidirectional conversion of lithium polysulfides (LiPS) facilitated by the CoO x –CeO 2− y /C modification layer, the (−)Li|CoO x –CeO 2− y /C@PP|S(+) coin cell maintains a Coulombic efficiency of 90.4% after 500 cycles at a current density of 1 C, exhibiting a low capacity-decay rate of only 0.081% per cycle, thereby demonstrating excellent long-cycle stability.

In recent years, lots of efforts have been applied to improve the initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), among which prelithiation is considered to be one of the most promising schemes. Here we report a modified Li x Si with high lithium reserves and great environmental adaptability as the prelithiation reagent, which can make up for the capacity loss of the negative electrode in the first cycle. Through the chemical reaction between aluminum isopropoxide and Li x Si, a protective layer consisting of Li x Al y SiO z /Li 2 O is formed on the surface of Li x Si particles. This synthesized material provides a new idea for the actual industrial production of prelithiation.

Despite tremendous progress in macromolecular self-assembly, the influence of topology and hydrolysis on hierarchical self-assembly has been scarcely revealed. This study aims at the design of toothbrush-like copolymers with linear and cyclic backbones to reveal multi-tunable properties, and the introduction of pH/oxidation-responsive and hydrolyzable Y junctions endows the copolymers with unique hydrolysis-induced topological and morphological transformations. The cyclization of the polymer backbone can lead to distinct bulk and solution properties such as chain relaxation, solution viscosity and self-assembly, revealing the crucial role of cyclic architecture. Upon pH and oxidation stimuli, at least eight kinds of distinct nanostructures involving spheres, vesicles, disks and sea urchins are achieved by self-assembly. Hydrolysis-induced (co)assembly dependent on topology, pH and hydrolysis time offers programmable formation of a diversity of nanostructures. Both toothbrushes can self-assemble into unilamellar vesicles, while the vesicles bearing cyclic toothbrushes are readily converted into double-lamellar vesicles upon heating, sonication and short-time pH stimulus. Our research can provide new insight into topology-related formation and transition processes of polymer nanoparticles. The success of this study paves the way for macromolecular engineering towards promising shape-dependent properties and applications.

HighlightsWhat are the main findings?Y doping reduces WC/Co interfacial energy and enhances bonding strength. Y-W orbital hybridization forms strong covalent bonds at the atomic interface.Material achieves dual improvement: Hardness (1454 HV) and toughness (9.84 MPa·m1/2).Optimal 0.5 wt.% Y refines grains and uniformly distributes the Co binder phase. Wear resistance is significantly improved, with the lowest wear rate at 0.5 wt.% Y.What are the implications of the main findings?Provides an atomic-scale mechanism for rare earth-enhanced cemented carbides and offers a design strategy for co-optimizing hardness and toughness in composites;Validates the integration of first-principles calculations with experimental validation;Identifies an optimal Y doping threshold for superior comprehensive properties. This study aims to clarify the optimization mechanism of yttrium (Y) doping on the interfacial bonding and macroscopic properties of WC/Co cemented carbides, with the goal of achieving materials that combine high hardness, high toughness, and excellent wear resistance through interfacial regulation. Combining first-principles calculations and experimental verification, the interfacial energy, density of states, and charge density of WC/Co and WC/CoY interfaces were systematically investigated. Three alloys (WC-10Co, WC-10Co-0.5Y, and WC-10Co-1Y) were prepared, and the effects of Y addition were quantitatively evaluated through microstructural characterization, mechanical testing, and tribological experiments. The calculation results indicate that Y doping reduces interfacial energy, enhances interfacial bonding, and increases surface energy, which contributes to improved toughness. At the atomic scale, the orbital hybridization between Y and W promotes the formation of strong covalent bonds at the interface, thereby enhancing interfacial bonding strength. The experimental results show that the introduction of Y significantly improves the overall performance of the material, with the alloy containing 0.5 wt.% Y exhibiting the best performance. Its Vickers hardness reaches (1454 ± 1.3) HV, fracture toughness is (9.84 ± 0.15) MPa·m1/2, and the wear rate is as low as 0.794 × 10−5mm3·N−1·m−1.

In zeolite catalysis, architecture governs functionality. A long-standing objective in this field has been to achieve simultaneous and precise modulation of both acidic properties and macromolecular conversion capabilities through proactive framework engineering. Addressing this, a small-sized mesoporous DCY zeolite (~5 nm) was synthesized via the SiCl 4 vapor modification developed here. Its properties were evaluated against microporous DY (from conventional SiCl 4 treatment) and large-sized mesoporous USY (~22 nm, from hydrothermal synthesis). DCY significantly enhanced acid site accessibility (Py-IR: 359 μmol/g vs. 283 μmol/g for DY) and mitigated acid site confinement. In particular, DCY zeolite exhibited a higher proportion of Si(1Al) building units relative to Si(0Al) units. This structural feature strengthened the strong Brønsted acid sites and modulated the B/L ratio, thereby optimizing the overall acidity and consequently overcoming the Brønsted acid deficiency in USY caused by its excessive Si(0Al) population. In heavy oil advanced catalytic evaluation (ACE) testing, the DCY-based catalyst demonstrated improved performance: compared to DY, it increased heavy oil conversion (+5.66%) and light oil yield (+5.69%) while reducing coke yield; relative to USY, it reduced dry gas (-0.62%) and coke (-1.31%) yields and optimized product distribution by decreasing C2-C4 alkanes selectivity (-3.3%) and increasing high-value C2-C4 olefins selectivity (+1.4%). This work links "pore–acid synergy" to cracking performance. The synergy improves mass transfer, suppresses over‑hydrogen transfer, and enhances selectivity, providing a basis for designing "oil‑to‑chemicals" catalysts.

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to formic acid is a promising route for mitigating CO2 emissions and producing value-added chemical feedstocks. However, achieving industrially relevant activity and stability in acidic media remains challenging due to severe hydrogen evolution, catalyst corrosion, and structural degradation. Herein, we report a rare–earth yttrium-doped SrSnO3 perovskite oxide (SrSn0.7Y0.3O3) synthesized via a solid-state reaction method. The incorporation of YO6 octahedra induces in situ electrochemical reconstruction of SnO6 units into metallic Sn, leading to the formation of strong YO6–Sn interfacial interactions that modulate the electronic structure of Sn active sites and enhance their structural stability. The optimized reconstructed catalyst, denoted as c–SrSn0.7Y0.3O3, delivers a Faradaic efficiency of over 90% for formic acid at an industrially relevant current density of 200 mA cm-2 under acidic conditions, while maintaining outstanding operational durability for over 180 h without observable performance decay. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the strong interaction between in situ generated metallic Sn and YO6 units effectively suppresses Sn dissolution and crystal structural collapse, thereby ensuring long-term stability in acidic media. This work demonstrates a rare-earth doping and electrochemical strategy that achieves a well-integrated balance of activity, selectivity, and stability, offering a promising pathway for advancing acidic CO2 electroreduction toward industrial application.

An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was developed for the detection of the acute myocardial infarction (AMI) biomarker miRNA-499 by synergistically integrating an iridium-metallized covalent organic framework (Ir@TpBpy) with enzyme-assisted Y-shaped DNA amplification. The Ir@TpBpy COF was synthesized via post-metallization of a bipyridine-rich TpBpy framework with Ir(III) complexes. This design significantly enhances the ECL performance not only through material loading but also via a synergistic optimization strategy: (1) the conjugated framework constructs continuous charge transport pathways to accelerate electron transfer; and (2) the porous architecture induces a guest confinement effect that locally enriches the coreactant triethylamine (TEA), facilitating radical kinetics. Concurrently, a Y-shaped DNA amplification strategy, driven by Klenow fragment and Nt. Bbv Cl enzymes, facilitated exponential signal enhancement via cascade strand displacement reactions. The generated output strands triggered the displacement of pre-immobilized WO 3 /CuO quenchers from the electrode surface, thereby restoring the luminescence of Ir@TpBpy and achieving a sensitive “signal-on” readout. Benefiting from this dual-amplification approach, the biosensor achieved an exceptionally low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.81 aM across a linear range from 1 aM to 1 nM in human serum and cellular lysates. Clinical validation using Bland-Altman analysis demonstrated 95% agreement with qRT-PCR results, confirming that this synergy of coordination modulation and guest confinement offers a robust and precise platform for early AMI diagnosis.
