Particle-reinforced composite fillers allow precise control of joint microstructure to enhance mechanical performance. However, traditional designs often reduce joint deformability and face issues like particle agglomeration and poor interfacial wettability. To overcome these limitations, a micro-network of Cu-Ti reinforcements within the brazing seam via Ag- x TiH 2 composite filler was developed in this work, which enabled the fabrication of high-strength Si 3 N 4 /Cu joints. Optimal results were achieved with the Ag-4TiH 2 filler, wherein a eutectic liquid formed at the Ag-4TiH 2 /Cu interface during the initial brazing stage. Simultaneously, undissolved Ti reacts with Cu to yield submicron Cu 4 Ti 3 -dominated reinforcements. On the Si 3 N 4 surface, hypostoichiometric TiN/TiN 0 . 61 /TiN 0 . 5 nanocrystals grow sequentially, which is beneficial for enhancing interfacial wettability and bonding reliability. A maximum average shear strength of 186.9 MPa was obtained, a 57.6 % improvement over the conventional AgCuTi filler. The fracture mechanism underwent a notable transformation: brittle failure at mixed regions of Si 3 N 4 and the reaction layer in AgCuTi joints was replaced by ductile failure at the interface between the Cu matrix and the brazing seam in Ag-4TiH 2 joints. The Cu 4 Ti 3 -dominated micro-network offers distinct advantages by enabling controllable in-situ growth that prevents agglomeration while maintaining joint deformability through the synergy effect of the abundant retention of ductile Ag(s, s) and decent elastic modulus and yield strength increment, and regulates the interface reaction to yield a thinner Ti-N layer instead of a TiN/Ti 5 Si 3 dual-layer. These features collectively contribute to the notable mitigation of residual stress within Si 3 N 4 /Cu joints.

Conventional advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) face technological bottlenecks in the stepwise treatment of heavy metal complexes (HMCs), and single-step removal strategies have attracted increasing attention. Herein, we pioneered a waste-derived strategy using NdFeB waste (NFBW) to activate H 2 O 2 for establishing a heterogeneous Fenton-like system, achieving concurrent Cu-EDTA decomplexation and Cu capture. Remarkably, 99.10 % Cu-EDTA decomplexation and 96.84 % total Cu capture were synchronously achieved within 30 min. This one-step technology is effective over a wide pH range (2.0–9.5). Notably, this system demonstrated practical efficacy in treating rare-earth purification wastewater, achieving synchronous removal of heavy metals (Cu, Zn) and rare-earth elements (Yb, Ce) as mixed organic complexes with effluent meeting industrial discharge standards. Mechanistic investigations revealed that Cu-EDTA decomplexation originated from Fe(Ⅲ)-induced ligand substitution coupled with reactive oxygen species (·OH and ·O 2 - ) attack. The ≡Fe(Ⅱ)/≡Fe(Ⅲ)-mediated heterogeneous Fenton reaction synergized with homogeneous Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ) cycling to generate ROSs, where the B-B bonds and Fe 0 in NFBW facilitated electron transfer for enhanced redox cycling. Possible pathways for the decomplexation of Cu-EDTA in this system are proposed. The 90.10 % TOC removal verified EDTA mineralization through stepwise degradation pathways. Liberated Cu(Ⅱ) was captured via multiple routes: surface reduction (Cu 0 ), precipitation (Cu(OH) 2 , Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 ), and Fe(OH) 3 adsorption-flocculation. This work not only opens new avenues for Fenton-like treatment of HMC wastewater through a “waste-treats-waste” strategy but also provides new ideas for synergistic activation of H 2 O 2 by multivalent iron materials.

A composite catalyst was prepared by mechanically mixing Cu-SSZ-13 and MnCeTiO x to improve selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x by ammonia. The optimal mass ratio of Cu-SSZ-13 and MnCeTiO x components in the composite catalysts was 1:1, where the NO x conversion was improved by around 40% in the temperature range of 150–300 °C compared with Cu-SSZ-13 alone. MnCeTiO x presented significantly stronger ability on the activation of NO to nitrates species than Cu-SSZ-13. Infrared (IR) and density functional theory (DFT) results showed that active nitrates intermediate on MnCeTiO x might migrate to Cu-SSZ-13, which assisted the oxidation of single Cu + to Cu 2+ to complete the Cu redox cycle. This avoided the rate-determining step that formation and oxidation of Cu + dimers in low-temperature SCR over Cu-SSZ-13. The research results are beneficial to the rational design of SCR catalysts with high-performance at low temperatures.

In the quest to optimise the catalytic activity and selectivity of the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR), various imperfections-such as defects, grain boundaries, and vacancies-pose significant challenges. In a groundbreaking approach, we present the synthesis of well-structured CuAl nanocrystals featuring a preferential (111) crystal facet, a first in the field. This innovative structure not only enhances selectivity but also establishes a clear structure-activity relationship for CO2 RR. The unique properties of CuAl nanocrystals stem from their ability to finely control bonding interactions with CO2 RR intermediates, driven by the synergistic effects of the (111) facet. Utilising a straightforward chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method, we produce these nanocrystals, revealing the atomic distribution of Cu and Al on this dominant surface, which crucially influences CO2 RR performance. Among them, Cu96Al4 achieves the highest Faraday efficiency (FE) for HCOOH (77.71%) and CO (18.01%), attributed to the synergistic effects of Cu and Al arising from the optimal d-band centre of Cu active sites and the strong electron-donating ability of Al. This interaction facilitates the electron transfer from Cu to *COOH, resulting in a high FE for C1 product. Our findings pave the way for advanced catalytic designs that can significantly elevate CO2 conversion efficiencies.

In this report, one-dimensional Cu-doped NiO nanofibers were synthesized by electrospinning and their electrochromic (EC) performance was investigated. It is demonstrated that the Ni 0.97 Cu 0.03 O nanofibers exhibit particularly fast switching speed (1.6 s for coloring and 0.9 s for bleaching) among NiO-based EC devices reported so far. Furthermore, other outstanding EC properties, including large transmittance modulation (73% at 550 nm), high coloration efficiency (77.9 cm 2 C −1 ) and good cycling durability (80% after 2000 cycles), were also achieved for Ni 0.97 Cu 0.03 O nanofibers. These attractive EC properties are attributed to their one-dimensional nanostructures with small size grains and superior electrical conductivity .

To obtain highly efficient photocatalysts, we successfully prepared the GO/ZnO/CdS/Cu 2 S composite that possesses superior photocatalytic degradation performance via a three-step solvothermal process. A series of characterization techniques were used to verify the composition and performance of prepared samples, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectra, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and so on. SEM reveals that copper ions are supported on the surface of CdS to form active sites for photocatalysis. Under the irradiation of ultraviolet (UV) and visible light, GO/ZnO/CdS/Cu 2 S photocatalyst exhibited relatively excellent photocatalytic degradation efficiency of methylene blue (MB), with 100% (80 min) and 95% (30 min), respectively. Compared with pure ZnO ( k = 7 . 1 4 × 1 0 − 4 ) under the illumination of UV light, the kinetic constant of GO/ZnO/CdS/Cu 2 S catalyst is up to 8 . 1 3 × 1 0 − 2 , and as for visible light illumination, up to 9 . 8 7 × 1 0 − 2 , showing relatively excellent visible-light-induced photocatalytic activity. Besides, under UV and visible light, after three cycles of photodegradation, GO/ZnO/CdS/Cu 2 S still maintains the degradation efficiency of 78.3% and 74.8%, respectively, indicating that it has good stability. This work might inspire a new perspective that introduces the surface reaction sites (Cu 2 S) in the design of other graphene oxide/mental oxide-based heterojunctions for environmental purification.

NbTe 2 is a monoclinic quasi-two-dimensional layered semimetal . This paper reports the change of physical properties of NbTe 2 single crystals under the action of copper substitution. The zero-field ab -plane resistivity ρ xx shows that the samples havegood metallicity . Magnetoresistance changes of up to 23% were observed at a magnetic field of 13 T without any tendency to saturate. We have observed linear magnetoresistance under high magnetic field, which will be attributed to the linear band dispersion of small Fermi pockets. And we use a formula to describe the linear relationship: ρ = N i B π n 2 e c ∝ B . The curve of the Hall resistance changing with the magnetic field at the same temperature has a linear relationship with the magnetic field, and the slope is positive, which indicates that the carrier type is mainly hole-type carriers.

With the advancement of industry and agriculture, substantial nitrate-containing pollutants have been discharged. This leads to severe environmental pollution and imbalance in nitrogen cycle, threatening ecology environment and human health. Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia can convert pollutants into important chemical feedstocks and energy-storage molecules, providing a feasible route for ammonia production using renewable energy. However, this reaction is complicated and involves multiple steps and intermediates, suffering from high overpotential and limited selectivity and activity. To solve this issue, herein we designed a mixed-valence Cu/CuO x catalyst which is primarily composed of Cu and Cu 2 O and shows three-dimensional nanowire structure, achieving efficient nitrate reduction reaction for ammonia synthesis. The current density for ammonia production reaches 1.89 A·cm −2 at −0.22 V vs . RHE (reversible hydrogen electrode), with a Faradaic efficiency of 80.9%. Cu/CuO x also maintains excellent stability during prolonged electrolysis. The apparent and normalized performances of Cu/CuO x are much higher than those of the control systems, such as Cu and Cu 2 O. Experimental and theoretical results prove that the Cu 0 and Cu + species in Cu/CuO x play synergistic roles, promoting the conversion of *NO intermediate to *NOH and accelerating the desorption of NH 3 . The nanowire structure provides abundant active sites, thereby enhancing the performance of nitrate reduction to ammonia. This work not only provides an efficient catalyst for nitrate reduction to ammonia but also serves as a guideline for the rational design of such catalysts. Synergistic effect of Cu 0 and Cu + in Cu/CuO x nanowires enables efficient nitrate reduction to ammonia. Download: Download high-res image (261KB) Download: Download full-size image

The recycling of spent polyesters into oxygen-containing chemicals provides a novel way to access such chemicals, and is also of great significance for solving the problems caused by polyester waste. Herein, we present hydrogenolysis of aliphatic polyesters into diols over MgAlO x supported Cu catalysts (Cu/MgAlO x -m) via a methanolysis-hydrogenation strategy under relatively mild conditions (e.g., 200 °C, 4 MPa). The as-designed Cu/MgAlO x -10 catalyst with Cu content of 10 wt.% shows the best performance, which could convert polycaprolactone into 1,6-hexanediol in a high yield of 98.0%. It is revealed that the Cu species in the catalyst mainly exist in the form of Cu 0 and Cu + , in which Cu 0 is responsible for H 2 activation, and Cu + for ester group activation and stabilization of reactive intermediates. The ratio of Cu 0 to Cu + species determines the selectivity towards diols. This work provides a highly efficient catalyst for hydrogenolysis of aliphatic polyesters into diols, which may have industrial application prospects.

The scale effect of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) plays a pivotal role in governing the mechanical behavior of Al-Cu composites. To investigate this, a series of composites incorporating intermetallic compounds (IMCs) of varying dimensions was fabricated. Experimental results reveal that the mismatch in thermal expansion coefficients between the IMCs and the Al matrix induces interfacial strain gradients. At the nanoscale, these gradients facilitate the nucleation of fault networks that effectively impede dislocation motion by reducing the mean free path, thereby surpassing the limitations predicted by the conventional Hall–Petch relationship. Moreover, nanoscale IMCs serve as dislocation pinning sites, thereby activating the Orowan strengthening mechanism. In contrast, micron-scale IMCs demonstrate limited ability to form dislocation loops, and the stacking faults (SFs) generated during stress relaxation become sources of mobile dislocations. The acceleration of dislocation at phase boundaries leads to stress concentration and premature failure. These insights provide valuable guidance for the structural and compositional design of metal matrix composites .

Subnanocluster (SNC) cocatalysts are considered to be promising cocatalysts for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to their rich surface-active sites and high atom utilization efficiency. Herein, a reductant-mediated in situ growth of the atomic clusters procedure is developed to synthesize SNC-Cu serving as advanced cocatalysts on TiO2 nanoparticles for HER. The optimized SNC-Cu/TiO2 catalyst, with 1.8 wt % metal mass loading, exhibits a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 6832 μmol g–1 h–1, which is ca. 25-fold that of bare TiO2 (273 μmol g–1 h–1 and comparable to that of 1 wt % Pt-modified TiO2 (7754 μmol g–1 h–1). Meanwhile, decent photostability and recyclability are also certified via a 20 h durability test. Comprehensive electron microscopy and spectroscopy characterizations unveil that the outstanding performance of SNC-Cu/TiO2 can be attributed to accelerated charge separation/transfer and suppressed photoinduced electron–hole recombination. Furthermore, in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and first-principle calculations reveal that the electron-localized SNC-Cu, with its abundant surface sites, facilitates *H adsorption and desorption, thus enhancing the HER activity significantly. This work highlights the promising potential of constructing noble-metal-free SNCs in semiconductors for photocatalytic HER.
