A D-A 1 -A 2 type covalent triazine framework (CTF) was prepared for the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (HER). In the resulting CTF-CZ-Bpy 2+ , 9-ethyl-9 H -carbazole (CZ) group is used as the donor, triazine ring as the first acceptor, and cyclic diquat (Bpy 2+ ) moiety as the second acceptor. Both experimental and theoretical results show that the D-A 1 -A 2 structure significantly enhances the efficiency of photogenerated charge separation and transfer. As a result, CTF-CZ-Bpy 2+ demonstrated outstanding photocatalytic HER activity with a yield rate of 31.1 mmol g −1 h −1 , which is 7.8 times higher than that of nonfunctionalized CTF-CZ-Bpy.

No reports disclosed that whether the plastic centrifuge tube with intrinsic photoenzyme activity can be used for the specific sensing of pharmaceuticals and biomarkers in biofluids so far. We herein report the plastic eppendorf (EP) tube as both reaction vessel and sunlight-activated plastic mimic enzyme for colorimetric/smartphone dual-mode detection of D-penicillamine (D-PA) and iron (Ⅲ) ions in goat and rabbit serums accordingly. The photooxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) combined with simulated sunlight-activated EP tube was selectively inhibited by adding D-PA, and the absorbance at 652 nm of oxidized TMB decreased. Good linearity between the absorbance variation (or R/(R + G + B)) and D-PA level ranging from 10 to 300 µM was obtained, and the limits of detection (LOD) were determined as 8.50 μM (colorimetric) and 6.92 μM (smartphone). Furthermore, the polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel encapsulated TMB in EP tube as a smartphone biosensor had been triumphantly used to monitor D-PA level in goat serum. Interestingly, the adsorption band of photo-oxidized EP tube-TMB system inhibited by D-PA gradually increased as the enhancement of iron (Ⅲ) ions concentration. Based on the “on–off-on” effect, a sensitive and selective method was further used for selectively sensing iron (Ⅲ) in rabbit serum. Notably, the dual-mode sensing platforms exhibited outstanding detection performance, with LOD values as low as 0.50 µM and 0.65 µM respectively. In short, this work not only excavated a photoactivated-plastic mimics, but also developed a robust, low-cost, simple and sensitive biosensor for simultaneous detection of D-PA and Fe (Ⅲ) ions in biofluids. The current photoactivated sensor does not requires the introduction of exogenous catalyst except for simulated sunlight, plastic tube and chromogenic substrate.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder. Transgenic and pharmacological AD models are extensively studied to understand AD mechanisms and drug discovery. However, they are time-consuming and relatively costly, which hinders the discovery of potential anti-AD therapeutics. Here, we established a new model of AD in larval zebrafish by co-treatment with aluminum chloride (AlCl 3 ) and D-galactose (D-gal) for 72 h. In particular, exposure to 150 μM AlCl 3 + 40 mg/mL D-gal, 200 μM AlCl 3 + 30 mg/mL D-gal, or 200 μM AlCl 3 + 40 mg/mL D-gal successfully induced AD-like symptoms and aging features. Co-treatment with AlCl 3 and D-gal caused significant learning and memory deficits, as well as impaired response ability and locomotor capacity in the plus-maze and light/dark test. Moreover, increased acetylcholinesterase and β-galactosidase activities, β-amyloid 1–42 deposition, reduced telomerase activity, elevated interleukin 1 beta mRNA expression, and enhanced reactive oxygen species production were also observed. In conclusion, our zebrafish model is simple, rapid, effective and affordable, incorporating key features of AD and aging, thus may become a unique and powerful tool for high-throughput screening of anti-AD compounds in vivo.

d -Galactose (D-Gal), an essential monosaccharide, plays multiple physiological roles in living organisms. Abnormal fluctuations in its concentration are closely associated with various genetic metabolic disorders, such as galactosemia and galactose deficiency. Therefore, the development of an efficient, sensitive, and accurate method for D-Gal detection is critical for disease diagnosis and treatment. In this study, a ratiometric fluorescence-based sensing platform was constructed for the quantitative detection of D-Gal. Galactose oxidase can catalyze the oxidation of D-Gal, resulting in the generation of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). When combined with WSe 2 nanosheets prepared via liquid-phase exfoliation and functioning as nanozymes, in the presence of H 2 O 2 , the substrate o -phenylenediamine (OPD) undergoes oxidation to generate 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP), which exhibits a fluorescence peak at 570 nm. Simultaneously, DAP quenches the fluorescence of carbon dots (CDs) at 430 nm via an inner filter effect, thereby enabling ratiometric detection with enhanced accuracy and sensitivity. The method exhibits a Limit of detection of 0.004 mM, Linear ranges spanning from 0.01 to 1 mM and from 1 to 300 mM, with recoveries ranging between 91.0 and 100.4%. Furthermore, the proposed method was effectively utilized for the detection of D-Gal in human serum specimens, demonstrating excellent selectivity and reliability. This research presents a novel method for D-Gal detection based on WSe 2 nanosheets and CDs, offering potential applications in the biomedical and biosensing fields. Graphical abstract

Electrochemical sensors have been considered as one of the most important methods to determine amino acid (AA) enantiomers. An interesting and highly-efficient electrochemical sensor, gold nanoparticles/D-sorbitol modified glass carbon electrode (Au NPs/D-sorbitol/GCE), was developed for the chiral recognition of Tyrosine (Tyr) enantiomers. Au NPs/D-sorbitol/GCE sensor exhibited excellent chiral recognition efficiency for Tyr enantiomers (I L /I D = 1.99, ∆Ep = 36 mV) by square wave voltammetry (SWV). The possible recognition mechanism was also proposed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) at different scanning rates, wettability measurements, and density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. The smaller steric hindrance and more suitable molecular distance are beneficial to the selective formation of hydrogen bonds between L-Tyr and the chiral interface of the sensor. The energy difference caused by the formation of hydrogen bonds between the chiral interface and Tyr enantiomers can be expressed as different peak currents to achieve chiral recognition. The redox peak current of Tyr enantiomers at Au NPs/D-sorbitol/GCE showed good linear relationship with their concentration, and the limits of detection (LOD) were calculated to be 4.12 μM and 8.07 μM for L-Tyr and D-Tyr, respectively. Importantly, Au NPs/D-sorbitol/GCE can also predict the mass ratios of L-Tyr in the enantiomeric mixtures. In addition, the sensor has shown good anti-interference ability, high stability, and excellent reproducibility.

Humic acids (HA) released during algal bloom poses a key challenge for efficient photocatalytic degradation of Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) due to their scavenging function on active species. Herein, MIL-101(Fe)/TiO 2 -P25 (M/P) was constructed to diminish the inhibitory effect of HA on the photocatalytic degradation of MC-LR. Results showed that MC-LR could be efficiently removed assigning to the photogenerated holes (h + ) and superoxide radical (O 2 •− ) oxidation under visible light irradiation, where the carboxy groups of D -glutamic acid (Glu) and methyl- D -aspartic acid (MeAsp), and Adda side chain related to MC-LR biotoxicity were selectively destroyed to achieve MC-LR detoxication. More importantly, HA exerted non-inhibitory effect on MC-LR removal by M/P. The counteracting mechanisms were studied. Firstly, the location of TiO 2 in the pore structure of MIL-101(Fe) could occupy the adsorption sites of HA, and decrease the HA adsorption on M/P. Furthermore, XPS analyses suggested the coordination of unsaturated Fe metal sites on the surface of M/P hybrids complexed with –OH and –COOH of HA, which could accelerate the electron transfer and reduce hole consumption. Thus, the inhibitory effect of HA was alleviated during photocatalytic MC-LR treatment. This work offers a possible way to remove MC-LR in an abundant HA matrix water system efficiently.

The development of nanomedicine has provided advanced treatment opportunities for many diseases. Simvastatin, a widely used anti-lipidaemic drug, has potential for the treatment of orthopaedic diseases. However, the clinical application of simvastatin is limited because of its hydrophobicity and lack of distribution in osseous tissue. In this study, an amphiphilic nanoparticle, poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide)–poly(ethyleneglycol)–poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide), was synthesised to improve the biocompatibility of simvastatin. The haemocompatibility of the poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide)–poly(ethyleneglycol)–poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) copolymer was investigated through its aggregation, morphology and lysis of human red blood cells, along with its impact on the clotting function according to the activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time and thromboelastographic assays. The results demonstrated that the poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide)–poly(ethyleneglycol)–poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) copolymer with a concentration lower than 10 mg/mL had little impact on the aggregation, morphology or lysis of red blood cells, or on blood coagulation. Therefore, the copolymer may be a strong alternative candidate as an effective and safe drug carrier.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted extensive interest in the field of optoelectronic functional materials due to their high design freedom, flexibility in structural modulation, and ease of introducing functional groups. Pyrene, the smallest densely-packed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, possesses excellent thermal stability and high carrier mobility properties. As a building block of COFs, its integration has attracted wide attention. Here, 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)pyrene (Py(NH2)4) and 1,3,6,8-tetrakis((4-(4′-amino-1-ethynylphenyl)pyrene (TAEPy) were selected as amine construction units. Also, 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)pyrene (Py(CHO)4) and 1,3,6,8-tetrakis((4-(4′-formyl-1-ethynylphenyl)pyrene (TFEPy) were used as aldehyde building units. We synthesized two imine-based COF electrochromic materials (Py-Py COF and TATFEPy COF) via a solvothermal method. The acetylene group, with its high electron mobility and electron density, acts as a π bridge. Together with the pyrene group as the donor (D), it forms a D-π-D-π structure. This structure enhances π–π stacking between COF molecules and boosts material stability. Tests show that TATFEPy COF outperforms Py-Py COF in electrochromism. Their contrasts are 0.45 and 0.30, and the coloring/bleaching times are 8.5/12.0 s and 12.0/20.0 s, respectively. After 2000 s cycling, contrast retention is 73.3% for TATFEPy COF and 54.0% for Py-Py COF. Therefore, constructing D-π-D-π molecular structures is an effective method for designing and synthesizing high-performance electrochromic polymers, enhancing their optoelectronic properties.

A series of novel polyazomethines containing EDOT and thiophene units coded as PEDOTs (PEDOT-TPA, PEDOT-TDD, PEDOT-THIO, PEDOT-APM) and PTHIOs (PTHIO-TPA, PTHIO-TDD, PTHIO-THIO, PTHIO-APM) were synthesized successfully. They were gained in short time, low cost and mild reaction conditions by a straightforward synthetic path. It can be easily found from the electrochemical properties of these polymers that the polymers containing 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) unit (PEDOTs) have lower initial oxidation potentials as compared to the polymers containing thiophene unit (PTHIOs). Spectroelectrochemical properties reveal that all of the polymer films exhibit outstanding multielectrochromic behaviors, distinct color contrast and excellent electrochemical stabilities. Kinetic studies show that the PEDOT-TPA film has the shortest response time (a color switching time of 4.54 s and a bleaching time of 3.88 s at 428 nm) and the PEDOT-THIO film exhibits the highest CE of 343.56 cm 2 C −1 . Typical I-V characteristics of the ITO/plymer/Al memory devices exhibit that all the memory devices based on PEDOTs and PTHIOs exhibited nonvolatile flash memory characteristics, with an ON/OFF current density ratio of 10 3 -10 4 and low threshold voltages (around 1 V). Thus, these characteristics illustrate that these novel polymers have great potential in optoelectronics applications as electrochromic materials and memory devices.

In this article, two novel benzobisthiazole-containing hyperbranched polyamides with different end groups were synthesized, by adjusting the feed molar ratio of the reaction monomers, using 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid and 2,6-diaminobenzo[1,2-d:4,5-d']bisthiazole as monomers, polyphosphoric acid as solvent, and catalyst. The molecular structure of the synthesized hyperbranched polymers were speculated by 1 H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, 13 C-NMR analysis, and Fourier transform infrared analysis. The M n , M w , and DB of the carboxyl terminated polymer HB-COOH are 3264 g/mol, 3350 g/mol, and 44.1%, respectively, with a polydispersity of 1.03. The M n , M w , and DB of amino terminated polymer HB-NH 2 are 3340 g/mol, 3420 g/mol, and 41.7%, respectively, with a polydispersity of 1.02. The thermal stability of HB-NH 2 was higher than HB-COOH in the range of 30 °C–800 °C.These two benzobisthiazole-containing hyperbranched polyamides were completely amorphous and soluble in DMSO. Their DMSO solutions exhibited strong blue fluorescence. The fluorescent intensity of HB-NH 2 was higher than HB-COOH. Photocatalytic CO 2 reduction using atomically dispersed catalysts holds significant potential for addressing global energy and environmental challenges. However, the influence of d–d orbital interactions between metal centers and coordinated atoms remains underexplored. Herein, nickel phthalocyanine is anchored to the metal-exposed crystal face of TiO 2 , forming Ti–Ni–N 4 coordination. This configuration reveals that the axially coordinated Ti atoms serve as a novel electron channel with electron-donating ability, transferring electrons to the Ni center through d–d coupling. It is found that the dynamic adjustment of bond lengths and d-band centers in Ti–Ni bonding during CO 2 photoreduction process can effectively modulate the adsorption strengths of the Ni center for different intermediates. This leads to a significant enhancement in the photocatalytic performance for CO 2 reduction to CO without a sacrificial reagent, achieving an exceptional CO evolution rate of 378.5 μmol g −1 . Furthermore, the d–d coupling mediated by Ti–Ni–N 4 coordination increases the vacancy formation energy of active sites, preventing the leaching of Ni active centers. This study provides a strategy for the precise design of d–d orbital regulation and resistance to demetallization in photocatalysts for efficient CO 2 conversion. Graphic abstract

Secondary metabolites from marine-associated actinomycetes are important source for the discovery of novel bioactive compounds. In this study, an actinomycete Streptomyces sp. ZZ446 was isolated from coastal soils and different media were used to culture this isolated marine actinomycete. It has been found that this actinomycete in the liquid medium of 2216 E with sea salt produced five new compounds of streptopyrazinones A−D ( 1 – 4 ) and N -acetyl- l -isoleucine- l -leucinamide ( 5 ) as well as six known diketopiperazines ( 6 – 11 ) and one alkaloid ( 12 ). Structures of the new compounds were determined by extensive NMR analyses, HRESIMS data, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation, chemical degradation , Marfey's method, and X-ray diffraction analysis. This type of streptopyrazinones A−D ( 1 – 4 ) is rarely found in the natural resources. New compounds 1 – 5 showed activity in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus .
