Novel tungsten bronze Ba 4 Gd 0.65-x Er 0.02 Yb x Nb 10 O 30 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1) phosphors were synthesized. Their phase and structure were characterized and analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld structural refinements. Under 980 nm excitation, bright frequency up-conversion (FUC) green and weak red emissions were observed. The concentration of Yb 3+ had an important influence on the FUC luminescence properties and a possible UC mechanism was proposed. Temperature sensing properties of the Ba 4 Gd 0.55 Er 0.02 Yb 0.1 Nb 10 O 30 phosphor in the range from 303 to 573 K were obtained by measuring the temperature dependent fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of the FUC green emissions at 531 and 554 nm originated from two thermally coupled 2 H 11/2 and 4 S 3/2 emitting energy levels. A temperature-sensing sensitivity of 0.013 K −1 at 573 K was obtained experimentally and the obtained energy difference ΔE was 971 cm −1 , indicating that this material can be utilized as a promising candidate for the future optical temperature sensors of high accuracy and resolution.

In this paper, a novel detection method based on luminescence resonance energy transfer (LRET) system for sensitive detection of Mn 2+ ions has been proposed. The positively charged upconversion nanoparticles capped with polyethyleneimin (PEI-UCNPs) and negatively charged Ag NPs capped with tripolyphosphate (P 3 O 10 5− -Ag NPs) were bound through electrostatic interaction . They were used as energy donors and acceptors, respectively. The green upconversion luminescence could be quenched because of a good overlap between the UCNPs emission and the Ag NPs absorption spectra . Nevertheless, the LRET was disrupted and the green upconversion luminescence was restored in the presence of Mn 2+ because of the coagulation of P 3 O 10 5− -Ag NPs. Thus, the relative luminescence intensity increased as the concentrations of Mn 2+ increased. The response is linear to the concentrations of Mn 2+ in the range from 0.2 to 5 μM, and the detection limit is evaluated to be 150 nM (S/N = 3). This probe was easy to operate with satisfactory selectivity and excellent sensitivity, which would be able to satisfy the requirements of Mn 2+ -related detection.

The development and comparison of Latent Fingerprint Patterns (LFPs) constitute critical components of research in fingerprint detection and identification. However, the development of nanomaterials visualization and digital algorithms for LFPs analysis are mostly studied independently, resulting in inaccurate LFPs. This research synthesized a series of efficient red-emitting NaYF 4 :20 %Yb, 2 %Er, x %Mn ( x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40) upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) for image development, which were combined with a digital algorithm for accurate LFP recognition. The eightfold increase in luminescence intensity of NaYF 4 :Yb, Er, 30 %Mn at 653 nm effectively avoids interference from biological tissue fluorescence. This improvement is credited to the efficient reverse energy transfer mechanism between Er 3+ and Mn 2+ ions, specifically the transition sequence 4 S 3/2 (Er 3+ ) → 4 T 1 (Mn 2+ ) → 4 F 9/2 (Er 3+ ). Furthermore, a MATLAB program was employed to process the fluorescent images of LFPs developed using the UCNPs nanophosphors, achieving a high matching score of 90.09 % for the optimized sample, significantly outperforming traditional benchmarks. These results demonstrate the superior effectiveness of the NaYF 4 :Yb, Er, 30 %Mn nanophosphor, combined with digital processing algorithms, for practical LFP recognition applications.

Biomass-based adsorbent materials are characterized by their low cost, environmental friendliness, and ease of design and operation. In this study, biomass-based hydrogel microspheres erbium alginate (SA/Er) with high stability and adsorption properties were prepared by a one-step synthesis method. The prepared materials were characterized and analyzed by SEM-EDS, XRD, TGA, FT-IR, UV–Vis, BET-BJH and XPS, and the adsorption performance of SA/Er was investigated for high concentrations of azo dyes in water. The results showed that the adsorption performance of SA/Er on the azo dyes of direct violet N (DV 1) and direct dark green NB (DG 6) with concentrations of 850 mg/L and 1100 mg/L under the optimal conditions was very high, and the adsorption amount could be up to 692 mg/g and 864 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption process was in accordance with the quasi-secondary kinetic model, which was accomplished by physical and chemical adsorption; the Langmuir isothermal model was able to better respond to the adsorption equilibrium, and the adsorption was dominated by the adsorption of surface monolayers; after seven desorption cycles, the removal of both azo dyes by the adsorbent material could reach >79.7 %. Combined with the results of FT-IR, UV–vis and XPS analysis before and after the adsorption, it was revealed that the adsorption of SA/Er with the dye molecules mainly consisted of hydrogen bonding, electrostatic adsorption and surface complexation, which resulted in the significant adsorption effect on the two azo dyes, and the above results can provide a reference for the treatment of dye wastewater.

The twelve quaternary rare-earth selenides Ba2MLnSe5 (M = Ga, In; Ln = Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er) have been synthesized for the first time. The compounds Ba2GaLnSe5 (Ln = Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er) are isostructural and crystallize in a new structure type in the centrosymmetric space group P1̅ of the triclinic system while the isostructural compounds Ba2InLnSe5 (Ln = Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er) belong to the Ba2BiInS5 structure type and crystallize in the noncentrosymmetric space group Cmc21 of the orthorhombic system. The structures contain infinite one-dimensional anionic chains 1∞[GaLnSe5]4– and 1∞[InLnSe5]4–, and both chains are built from LnSe6 octahedra and MSe4 (M = Ga, In) tetrahedra in the corresponding selenides. As deduced from the diffuse reflectance spectra, the band gaps of most Ba2MLnSe5 (M = Ga, In; Ln = Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er) compounds are around 2.2 eV. The magnetic susceptibility measurements on Ba2GaGdSe5 and Ba2InLnSe5 (Ln = Nd, Gd, Dy, Er) indicate that they are paramagnetic and obey the Curie–Weiss law, while the magnetic susceptibility of Ba2InSmSe5 deviates from the Curie–Weiss law as a result of the crystal field splitting. Furthermore, Ba2InYSe5 exhibits a strong second harmonic generation response close to that of AgGaSe2, when probed with the 2090 nm laser as fundamental wavelength.

We aim to establish the fingerprint profile of Er Miao San (EMS) that aims to accurately evaluate the quality of EMS samples and to identify quality markers for different batches of EMS and explore its related targets and pathways for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. HPLC was employed with an Agilent C18 column. Cluster analysis and principal component analysis were conducted by using SPSS and SIMCA software. Network pharmacology techniques were utilized to explore the potential targets and pathways of EMS in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The HPLC fingerprint profile of EMS was established, featuring a total of 15 common peaks, among which nine were identified. The 10 batches of medicinal materials could be clustered into three categories. With VIP > 1 as the criterion, four index differential components were screened out. These intersections were imported into the STRING database and Cytoscape software, resulting in 228 intersection targets. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were performed on the related targets and pathways. The established method can effectively analyze the quality differences of EMS from different origins. The screened targets and pathways are of great significance for analyzing the differences in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by different batches of EMS.

Photocatalytic CO2 reduction represents a promising strategy for solar-to-fuel conversion; however, challenges remain in optimizing active sites and charge carrier dynamics. In this work, we successfully constructed a rare-earth-based atomic engineering strategy to form erbium (Er) single atoms anchored on oxygen-deficient BiVO4 through hydrothermal synthesis and controlled calcination. The unique 4f electronic configuration and high coordination flexibility of the rare earth atoms optimized the band structure of the catalyst, facilitating the efficient separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. Simultaneously, the atomically dispersed active sites activated the CO2 molecules via strong orbital hybridization, lowering the energy barrier for *COOH intermediate formation and enhancing CO selectivity. Density functional theory calculations and in situ characterization analysis indicated that the Er single atoms modulated local charge distribution, accelerating electron transfer to the adsorbed CO2 while stabilizing key intermediates. The optimized catalyst achieved a CO yield rate of 496.23 μmol·g–1·h–1 with 99% selectivity, representing an 11.2-fold enhancement over pristine BiVO4. This study elucidated the critical role of rare-earth single-atom sites in directing charge kinetics and molecular activation pathways, offering atomic-level insights for designing high-performance photocatalytic systems for carbon neutrality applications.

This study explores the neuroprotective effects of resveratrol (Resv) against tri-o-cresyl phosphate (TOCP)-induced neurotoxicity in the spinal cord of adult hens. It is well documented that TOCP exposure causes significant neurodegeneration via mechanisms that involve endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and impaired autophagy. In this experiment, adult hens were assigned to one of four groups: Control, Resv, TOCP, and TOCP + Resv. The spinal cord tissues were examined through transmission electron microscopy, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, Nissl staining, and Western blotting to evaluate key proteins associated with ER stress and autophagy. Additionally, RT-qPCR and immunofluorescence were employed to measure sirtuin1 (SIRT1) expression. The findings revealed that TOCP induced severe ultrastructural damage, including disrupted myelin sheaths, dilated ER, and extensive neurodegeneration, as confirmed by histological evaluations. The expression levels of GRP78, p-PERK, p-eIF2α, ATF4, CHOP, Beclin-1, P62, and LC3-II were also significantly elevated by TOCP. However, Resv treatment markedly attenuated these pathological changes by reducing ER stress, restoring autophagic flux, and upregulating SIRT1 expression, preserving spinal cord integrity. These results indicate that Resv can effectively counteract TOCP-induced neurotoxicity by modulating ER stress and autophagy, underscoring its potential as a therapeutic agent for neuroprotection.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is known to impair the function of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), disrupting lipid metabolism. Despite the crucial role lipid plays in regulating adipose tissue function, the specific lipidomic alterations in VAT and SAT under ER stress remain unclear. In this study, ER stress was induced in VAT and SAT, and targeted lipidomic and transcriptomic approaches were used to analyze lipid metabolism and gene expression profiles. The results revealed that VAT exhibited a stronger ER stress response, characterized by a significant increase in binding immunoglobulin protein (BiP) expression and notable lipidomic disruptions, especially in glycerides and sterols. These disruptions were marked by a decrease in protective polyunsaturated fatty acyl species and the accumulation of lipotoxic molecules. In contrast, SAT displayed less severe lipidomic alterations. Transcriptomic analysis indicated that VAT was more susceptible to immune activation, inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction, while SAT primarily showed alterations in protein folding processes. These findings underscore the tissue-specific mechanisms of ER stress adaptation in VAT and SAT. In conclusion, VAT appears to be a critical target for addressing metabolic dysfunction in obesity and related disorders, with potential therapeutic implications for managing ER stress-induced metabolic diseases.

Neuro-inflammation contributes to neuropathic pain by sensitizing ionic channels. Kinsenoside, a traditional Chinese medicine, has recognized anti-inflammatory properties. However, it remains unclear whether kinsenoside can be used for pain therapy. Network pharmacology analysis revealed that 57 % of its targets are associated with pain, including inflammation and synaptic transmission. The analgesic effects of kinsenoside were confirmed in SNL and formalin rat models, with ED50 values of 47.99 μg and 36.80 μg, respectively. Transcriptome and WGCNA analyses indicated the involvement of cytokine release, anti-inflammatory activity, and synapse enrichment in the blue module. Furthermore, we confirmed that kinsenoside's efficacy was mainly mediated by IL-10 induction, phosphorylation of STAT3, and SOCS3 expression. Pretreatment with kinsenoside significantly inhibited the release of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. Kinsenoside also attenuated ER stress in both microglia and neural cells. Molecular docking analysis demonstrated significantly high binding energies of IL-10, STAT3, and SOCS3 with MHC. Additionally, whole-cell recordings revealed that bath application of kinsenoside reduced the frequency and amplitude of spinal glutamatergic transmission in a dose-dependent manner. In summary, pharmacological prediction and biological validation collectively indicate that kinsenoside significantly exerts significant analgesic effects by attenuating ER stress and inhibiting inflammatory responses via the IL-10/p-STAT3/SOCS3 axis, precisely regulating spinal glutamatergic transmission for pain relief.

In this work, we developed a simple and selective luminescence sensing system for detecting ascorbic acid (AA) based on NaGdF4:Yb,Er@NaYF4 upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and oxidase-like CoOOH nanoflakes. When p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and oxidase-like CoOOH nanoflakes were added to the UCNPs solutions, PPD, as a typical substrate of oxidase, could be oxidized to PPDox. The luminescence intensity of UCNPs was quenched because PPDox could play a role as an energy acceptor. When AA was added to the above solution mixture, the CoOOH nanoflakes were destroyed, and then, the luminescence intensity was recovered. Under the best experimental conditions, the linear range for detection of AA was 0.8 to 280 μM, and the detection limit was 0.25 μM. Furthermore, the system could be applied to real sample analysis with satisfactory results.

Targeted modulation of metal ion homeostasis in tumor cells has emerged as a promising method for cancer therapy. However, the coordination efficiency and stability of different metal ions posed significant challenges for current multi-metal ions delivery systems. In this study, we presented an innovative strategy that utilized a single-metal ion nanoregulator capable of precisely modulating intracellular dual-metal ions homeostasis. This regulation induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and cuproptosis, which worked synergistically to inhibit tumor growth. Specifically, a calcium-selective chelator, BAPTA, formed a metal coordination complex with copper ions (Cu 2+ ), which remained stable in the extracellular environment but disassembled upon internalized by tumor cells. Once inside, the released BA selectively chelated cytoplasmic calcium ions (Ca 2+ ), depleting ER Ca 2+ stores and triggering ER stress. This stress activated the PERK/p-eIF2α/ATF4/CHOP apoptotic pathway, leading to tumor cell apoptosis. Meanwhile, Cu 2+ induced cuproptosis and was reduced to Cu + in the cytosol, where it consumed hydrogen peroxide and generated cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals. These radicals induced oxidative stress, which, combined with glutathione depletion, further amplified ER stress and promoted tumor cell apoptosis. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments exhibited that the nanoregulator effectively suppressed tumor growth through apoptosis and cuproptosis pathways, with favorable biocompatibility. This study highlighted the synergistic roles of copper and calcium ions in tumor therapy and introduced a novel strategy for modulating intracellular dual-metal ions homeostasis, offering more efficient and low toxicity anti-cancer treatments.
