Pt/C is one of the most favorable catalysts with high catalytic activity used in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the synthesis of Pt/C with superior durability is still a significant challenge. Here, we introduced a simple technique to fabricate a Pt/N-C catalyst, having ultrasmall Pt nanocrystals encapsulated inside a nitrogen-doped carbon support, which is derived by the UiO-66-NH2 (MOF) using an impregnation technique, followed by a pyrolysis process. This Pt/N-C displays ORR activity and durability in alkaline solution with a half-wave potential of 0.90 V (vs RHE), limited diffusion current density of 5.5 mA cm–2, and only 5 mV deterioration in half-wave potential after testing 20,000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. In addition, it also shows good performance in acidic solution. In addition, Zn–air batteries (ZABs) assembled using the Pt/N-C air electrode display a high specific capacity of 825 mAh g–1, a high peak power density of 372 mW cm–2, and 208 h long cycle life. This offers an innovative approach for developing noble metal-based catalysts with unusual activity, stability, and a promising future for applications in metal–air batteries and fuel cells.

The development of stable, efficient catalysts for fructose conversion to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) remains a challenge. While sulfonation enhances Brønsted acidity in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), it often compromises their structural integrity. This work addresses the critical challenge by demonstrating that amino (–NH 2 ) functionalization in MIL-53(Al) acts as a stabilizer, enabling the framework to withstand direct modification with chlorosulfonic acid and facilitating the introduction of sulfonic acid groups. The resulting sulfonated catalyst, MIL-53-N/S(1), achieves an outstanding 5-HMF yield of 84.3% in a biphasic system (170°C, 6 h). This work underscores the dual role of amino functionalization in stabilizing MOFs and enabling efficient acid catalysis for biomass conversion. Graphical A strategy using amino-functionalized MIL-53(Al) was proposed, where pre-grafted –NH 2 groups facilitate effective sulfonation to create abundant –SO 3 H sites without compromising framework stability. This approach addresses the challenge between acidity and structural degradation of MOFs. Under optimized conditions, MIL-53-N/S(1) achieves an HMF yield of 84.3%, demonstrating its potential for practical biomass valorization.

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) are promising membrane materials for CO2 separation due to their high permeability; however, their limited CO2/N2 selectivity restricts practical application. Herein, mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) were fabricated by incorporating a CO2-molecularly imprinted UiO-66-NH2 filler (MIP@U) into amidoxime-functionalized PIM-1 (AOPIM-1), followed by thermal treatment at 160 or 250 °C under vacuum to regulate the membrane microstructure. Spectroscopic and porosity analyses (FTIR, XRD, and N2 physisorption) show that thermal treatment at 160 °C promoted oxadiazole-ring formation, leading to enhanced subnanometer microporosity and improved CO2/N2 selectivity. In contrast, treatment at 250 °C partially regenerates nitrile groups and generates larger micropores, resulting in higher CO2 permeability but reduced selectivity. The MIP@U filler introduces CO2-recognition cavities and improves interfacial compatibility, enabling synergistic control of polymer microporosity and interfacial transport pathways. The optimized 3 wt % MIP@U/AOPIM-1-TR160 membrane achieves a CO2 permeability of ∼1600 Barrer and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 50.8. The membrane also demonstrates stable performance under pressures up to 12 bar and during 30 h of continuous operation at 2 bar. This study highlights a dual-approach strategy combining thermally tailored PIM chemistry with molecularly imprinted MOF fillers for designing high-performance MMMs for CO2 capture.

A synergistic MgO@UiO-66-NH₂ nanocomposite was prepared for CTL sensing. • The proposed CTL sensor enables rapid, non-invasive detection of isopropanol. • The sensor exhibits a wide linear range (0.04–120 mg/L) and good stability. • This method offers a potential approach for preclinical lung cancer screening via exhaled breath analysis. Isopropanol (IPA) has been identified as a potential biomarker for lung cancer, and the rapid detection of IPA in exhaled breath may offer a promising strategy for lung cancer screening. In this study, rod-like MgO, MnO₂, and ZnO, along with natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), were synthesized and used as carriers to fabricate nanocomposites with a Zr-based metal–organic framework (UiO-66-NH₂). Their catalytic activities toward IPA were evaluated using cataluminescence (CTL) measurements. MgO@UiO-66-NH₂ exhibited the highest catalytic activity, attributed to the synergistic effect between MgO and UiO-66-NH₂ enhancing the redox capacity in the presence of ozone. Based on this composite, a rapid CTL method was developed for IPA detection in exhaled breath. The intra-sensor precision (nine repeated measurements on the same sensor) gave a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.41%; inter-sensor reproducibility (seven different sensors) gave an RSD of 3.81%; and long-term stability over seven weeks showed an RSD of 4.3%. The linear range was 0.04–120 mg/L, with a limit of detection of 0.015 mg/L (S/N = 3). When applied to three healthy human exhaled breath samples, the method achieved spiked recoveries ranging from 90.0% to 105.3%. These results demonstrate that the proposed CTL sensor enables rapid, non-invasive detection of IPA and holds great potential for IPA detection in exhaled breath. Understanding exciton recombination and exciton-phonon coupling in hybrid perovskite single crystals is essential for developing high-performance linear and nonlinear optoelectronic devices. Herein, we systematically investigate the photophysical processes in formamidinium lead bromide (CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3 ) single crystals through steady-state photoluminescence (PL), temperature-dependent spectroscopy, time-resolved PL, and Raman analysis. Under 405 nm excitation, dual emission peaks at 555 and 577 nm are assigned to free exciton (FE) and bound exciton (BE) recombination. Time-resolved PL measurements reveal nanosecond-scale lifetimes for FE and longer sub-microsecond lifetimes for BE. Under 800 nm excitation, a single 567 nm emission with a microsecond lifetime is observed, demonstrating two-photon absorption (2PA) induced localization and reabsorption-mediated relaxation. Temperature-dependent PL reveals an activation energy of 72 meV derived from Arrhenius fitting, while the monotonic linewidth broadening is well described by the Boson model with a longitudinal optical phonon energy of 24 meV. An anomalous evolution of the emission features around ∼160 K suggests a possible phase transition, which modulates exciton-phonon coupling and recombination dynamics. Raman spectroscopy further confirms strong electron-phonon interaction and lattice anharmonicity. These results establish a unified picture of FE-BE competition and 2PA-dominated recombination dynamics in CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3 , providing fundamental insight for perovskite-based lasers, nonlinear photonics, and scintillation devices.

To address the severe Cr(VI) contamination in industrial wastewater, an NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe)/g-C 3 N 4 type-II heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized via a solvothermal one-pot method. Structural characterization using XRD, SEM, XPS, and BET confirmed successful composite formation with high specific surface area and favorable interfacial contact. Photocatalytic experiments revealed that under conditions of pH = 2, a catalyst dosage of 20 mg, and an initial concentration of 10 mg/L, NM-101(Fe)/0.2CN achieved a 99.5 % reduction efficiency within 80 min. Its reaction rate constant was 3.6 times higher than that of NM-101(Fe) used alone. This study provides new insights for developing highly efficient MOF/polymer composite photocatalysts.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a promising technology to harvest energy from the environment due to their self-powered characteristics, simple structure, low cost and high flexibility. To improve their performance, this work proposes a hierarchical optimization strategy, which integrates the employment of polyimide (PI) matrix, the doping of metal-organic framework and the surface patterning of TENG triboelectric layers to achieve high output performance and durability. In the work, the PI/UIO-66-NH₂ mixed matrix membrane (MMM) is first synthesized and characterized, where the influence of UIO-66-NH₂ loading amount on the triboelectric properties of MMM is analyzed. The measurement results show that this MMM exhibits excellent dielectric properties and thermal stability. Subsequently, the TENG device operated in the vertical contact-separation mode is fabricated, where MMM is used as the negative triboelectric layer and pure PI membrane as the positive layer. Moreover, the surface patterning method based on soft imprint lithography is applied to both triboelectric layers to augment their effective contact areas. Then, the output performance of TENG is characterized. It is found that, for the weight ratio of UIO-66-NH₂ of 5 wt%, the patterned UIO-66-NH₂ MMM-based TENG (P-TENG-5) achieves a maximum output power density of 78.27 ± 3.42 μW/cm², which is 5.76 times higher than that of unpatterned TENG-5 and 361.35 times greater than that of pure PI-based TENG-0. Remarkably, P-TENG-5 maintained stable performance over 20,000 cycles at 2 Hz without the considerable performance degradation.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) incorporating metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) hold significant promise for gas separation applications. However, the inherent disparity between the organic polymer matrix and the inorganic fillers frequently leads to interfacial incompatibility issues. In this study, we adopted an in-situ interfacial crosslinking strategy to fabricate MMMs incorporating NH 2 -Zn 2 (Bim) 4 nanosheets that simultaneously act as nanofillers and reactive crosslinkers. Specifically, during the thermal imidization reaction process, the amino groups of NH 2 -Zn 2 (Bim) 4 not only establish hydrogen bonding interactions with the carbonyl groups of polyamic acid (PAA) (the precursor of polyimide), but undergo dehydration reactions with carboxyl groups, leading to the formation of stable amide linkages. Meanwhile, the aromatic structure of the BI units, a key monomer of polyimide, closely resembles that of the ligands of NH 2 -Zn 2 (Bim) 4 , which can establish π-π stacking interactions, further improving the interfacial compatibility between the polymer matrix and MOF fillers. Among the prepared samples, MMMs incorporating 33.3 wt% NH 2 -Zn 2 (Bim) 4 nanosheets exhibit the maximum H 2 permeability of 680.5 Barrer, and its H 2 /N 2 and H 2 /CO 2 selectivities were 18.7 and 13.3, respectively, which were close to or even exceeded the Robeson upper bound. The proposed in-situ interfacial engineering based on chemical crosslinking provides a novel and effective route for fabricating high-performance MMMs with enhanced interfacial compatibility, demonstrating great potential for hydrogen separation applications.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted significant research interest as promising innovative platforms for designing heterojunction photocatalysts. Herein, we report the rational design and preparation of an AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 heterojunction composite via a simple and facile in-situ route to degrade organic dyes (RhB). The AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 structural, surface, and optical characteristics were thoroughly examined by means of XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, UV-Vis DRS, VB-XPS, N 2 physisorption, TG, XPS, PL, transient photocurrent, and EIS techniques. The experimental results confirmed that AgI particles were dispersed on the surface of flower-like Sn-BDC-NH 2 , and the introduction of AgI significantly boosts the photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposites. Under the operating parameters (catalyst dosage of 0.5 g/L, RhB concentration of 30 mg/L, volume of 40 mL, and illumination time of 60 min), the 30-AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 with the AgI loading of 30% exhibited the highest degradation efficiency in RhB, reaching 94.7%, with a photocatalytic rate constant of 0.039 min − 1 , which was 3.22 times and 26.0 times that of pure AgI and Sn-BDC-NH 2 , respectively. The enhanced activity can be originated from the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction between AgI and Sn-BDC-NH 2 with intimate interfacial contact and the synergistic effects among the components, thereby providing a mesoporous structure and larger relative surface area (27.9 m 2 /g), improving utilization of visible light, more charge transfer channels, and lower electron-hole pair recombination rates. More crucially, it retained 78.1% degradation efficiency after five cycles, confirming excellent stability. Furthermore, trapping analyses suggest that e − , •O 2 − , and h + radicals dominate the degradation reaction pathway, and then a possible mechanism of 30-AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 Z-scheme heterojunction was proposed. Overall, this research work highlights the potential of using Sn-MOF-based heterojunction composites as practical photocatalysts for sustainable dye-contaminated wastewater treatment. Bacterial infection threatens human health, so the design of efficient and stable photocatalytic antibacterial materials has attracted widespread attention. In this regard, a novel photocatalyst GQDs/NH 2 -MIL-125 (GQDs: graphene quantum dots) was prepared by the solvothermal method for photocatalytic disinfection. Since the addition of GQDs enhanced the absorption of visible light and also accelerated the transfer of photogenerated electrons, the photocatalytic performance of GQDs/NH 2 -MIL-125 was significantly improved. 5 wt% GQDs loading sample (2-GQDs/NH 2 -MIL-125) exhibited the best antibacterial properties. The killing efficiency by 2-GQDs/NH 2 -MIL-125 against E. coli and S. aureus (10 7 CFU·mL −1 ) increased from 40 % and 75 % by NH 2 -MIL-125 to 92 % and 93 % within 60 min, respectively. Moreover, through the single-wavelength antibacterial experiments, it was found that the introduction of GQDs led to a wide-range-responsive antibacterial effect. Through photocatalytic trapping experiments and ESR analysis, the dominant roles of superoxide radicals (•O 2 – ) were confirmed in the antibacterial process. Finally, by studying the state of bacteria via TEM, confocal fluorescent images, and gel electrophoresis, it was found that the active substances not only destroyed the cell membranes but also further destroyed DNA to achieve the purpose of completely killing bacteria. This work provides a new method for the rapid disinfection of pathogenic microorganisms using GQDs-related photocatalysts.

Membrane distillation (MD) is considered an emerging desalination technology. However, the presence of surfactants allows liquid to penetrate the membrane, resulting in membrane wetting, which hinders the commercialization of MD. In this study, we use very few modified materials to prepare novel Janus thin membranes that immobilize modified materials (graphene oxide (GO) and UiO-66-NH 2 ) on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hydrophobic base membranes via crosslinkers. The composite thin membrane properties with eight different ratios and contents of GO and UiO-66-NH 2 were fabricated and tested by a feed solution of sodium chloride containing a high concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate. An optimal ratio of Janus membrane with high flux without affecting the effluent water quality was obtained. The Janus membrane exhibited excellent anti-wetting properties compared to the original PTFE membrane. A desalination rate of up to 99.9% was still available even under 48 h of long-term operating conditions by maintaining a flux of approximately 21.2 L/(m 2 ·h). The anti-wetting mechanism of this membrane was further confirmed by the modified XDLVO model. It suggested that the novel Janus membrane could be a highly promising substitute to the MD process for the resource-based treatment of surfactant-containing wastewater, which played an important role in promoting its application.

Formic acid (FA) is regarded as a promising hydrogen storage material, and designing efficient catalysts for the dehydrogenation of high-concentration FA (HCF) is attractive but challenging. Herein, a catalyst comprising PdAu nanoparticles (NPs) anchored on amine-functionalized commercial active carbon (PdAu/AC-NH2) was synthesized and evaluated for the dehydrogenation of HCF without additives under ambient conditions. The Pd3Au2/AC-NH2 catalyst exhibits durable performance and 100% H2 selectivity when the FA concentration is ≤5 M and affords an excellent turnover frequency (TOF) of 3300 h−1 for 5 M FA and 603 h−1 for neat FA at 303 K. Subsequent characterizations reveal that the Au content affects the surface energy and electron property of Pd on PdAu alloy nanocatalysts, which play an indispensable role in the rate committed step of HCOO* adsorption and C–H cleavage. Besides, ultrafine PdAu NPs (2.20 nm) and amine groups synergistically accelerate catalyst activity. This work may pave the way for HCF-based high hydrogen density storage under ambient conditions.
