Aiming at inhibiting the irreversible P2–O2 phase transition of conventional P2-type cathode materials at high voltage and enhancing the cycling stability of sodium-ion batteries, in this article, based on a strategy of adjusting the Na + ion occupancy within the crystal structure, Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67– x Fe x O 2 (NM– x Fe, x = 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) cathode materials were synthesized by high shear mixer (HSM)-assisted co-precipitation method and evaluated the electrochemical performance at high voltage (4.35 V). The optimal sample NM–0.15Fe exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 130.8 mAh/g (0.1 C), with exceptional retention of 95.9% after 100 cycles (1 C). XRD analysis reveals that Fe intercalation promotes the more amount of Nae-similar occupation; the Nae/Naf ratio equals 1.93 for NM–0.15Fe versus 1.62 for NM, which enhances Na + diffusion kinetics, as confirmed by GITT tests. Through characterizations of in situ XRD, XPS, HRTEM, CV, etc., it is illustrated that the Fe 3+ intercalation can effectively disrupt the Na + /vacancy ordering and inhibit the harmful P2–O2 phase transition, and then improve the cycling stability of the cathode. DFT calculations disclose that intercalated Fe can reduce the electron densities of adjacent transition metallic elements, generating more repulsive forces impacted on sodium and consequently appearance of more Nae sites, leading to a lower Na + diffusion energy barrier. Such strategy of modulating Na occupation sites in crystal structure is conducive to the development of low-cost and high-performance layered cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Ethylene glycol (EG) is a vital industrial raw material. However, it has the potential to be hazardous to the environment and human health. High operating temperatures and long response/recovery times limit the wide application of EG sensors. Thus, we need to develop high-performance room-temperature EG-sensing materials. This paper proposes the direct hydrothermal carbonization of magnolia hair to prepare porous microtubular carbon (CMH) for room-temperature EG sensing. SEM, TEM, and XPS characterization showed that the CMH exhibited a porous microtubular structure and contained Na, which enhanced the adsorption capacity of the CMH for ethylene glycol gas. The CMH sensor exhibits a high response (156.4) to 500 ppm ethylene glycol gas at room temperature with moderate response/recovery time (14.2/37.3 s). It exhibits good linearity in measuring EG gases in the 10–100 ppm range, with a 0.292 ppm theoretical detection limit. Additionally, CMH sensors provide excellent repeatability and long-term stability. The synergistic effect of microtubule porous structure and Na doping is the main reason for enhancing the response of the sensor to EG gas. On this basis, the gas-sensitive enhancement mechanism of CMH was analyzed. The results show that biomass carbon materials provide a new method to prepare high-performance EG gas sensors.

Sodium manganese hexacyanoferrate, also called Prussian white (PW), has attracted much attention as a promising cathode material for Na-ion batteries due to its high-voltage platform and inexpensive elemental composition. However, their parasitic vacancies and water molecules often deteriorate the electrochemical performance. Proper regulation of such defects in scale-up preparation is still a challenge. In this work, PW was prepared via aqueous precipitation assisted by manganese oxalate in a 10 L reactor. High-quality Na2.32Mn[Fe(CN)6]0.95□0.05·1.97 H2O was obtained and exhibited a specific capacity of 148 mAh g–1. The phase transition from monoclinic to rhombohedral during long-term cycling for such an ultra-Na-rich cathode has been first reported. In addition, the vacuum drying temperature was further discussed, and 150 °C is more suitable for achieving the balance between dehydration and electrical properties.

Rechargeable sodium-oxygen (Na–O2) battery is deemed as a promising high-energy storage device due to the abundant sodium resources and high theoretical energy density (1,108 Wh kg–1). A series of quasisolid electrolytes are constantly being designed to restrain the dendrites growth, the volatile and leaking risks of liquid electrolytes due to the open system of Na–O2 batteries. However, the ticklish problem about low operating current density for quasisolid electrolytes still hasn’t been conquered. Herein, we report a rechargeable Na–O2 battery with polyvinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene recombination Nafion (PVDF–HFP@Nafion) based quasisolid polymer electrolyte (QPE) and MXene-based Na anode with gradient sodiophilic structure (M-GSS/Na). QPE displays good flame resistance, locking liquid and hydrophobic properties. The introduction of Nafion can lead to a high Na+ migration number (tNa+ = 0.68) by blocking the motion of anion and promote the formation of NaF-rich solid electrolyte interphase, resulting in excellent cycling stability at relatively high current density under quasisolid environment. In the meantime, the M-GSS/Na anode exhibits excellent dendrite inhibition ability and cycling stability. Therefore, with the synergistic effect of QPE and M-GSS/Na, constructed Na–O2 batteries run more stably and exhibit a low potential gap (0.166 V) after an initial 80 cycles at 1,000 mA g–1 and 1,000 mAh g–1. This work provides the reference basis for building quasisolid state Na–O2 batteries with long-term cycling stability.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have been considered to be an appealing alternative as alternatives for Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) on account of abundant resources and low prices. Different cathode materials have been extensively studied, especially layered oxides (P2 or O3). However, it is crucial to design an appropriate cathode material for SIBs with excellent comprehensive performance. Herein, a biphasic cathode material with P2 and O3 structures is successfully synthesized by Sn substitution in Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 , which is clearly proved by the XRD and HRTEM results. And Fullprof program refinement is used to determine the optimal phase ratio of P2 and O3. Besides, the XRD tests at different voltages illustrate that the cathode material has good reversibility and structural stability during charge and discharge. Due to the synergistic effect of P2 and O3 phase, when the phase ratio is about 1:1, the biphasic material P2/O3–Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.57 Sn 0.1 O 2 exhibits the most outstanding electrochemical performance. The P2/O3–Na 0.67 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.57 Sn 0.1 O 2 cathode delivers a high reversible initial capacity of 155.2 mA h g −1 during the voltage range from 2.0V up to 4.3V with an excellent initial Coulombic efficiency of 98.95%, as well as the satisfactory rate performances and cycling performance. GITT testing also demonstrates the D Na+ of biphasic material is more stable and conducive to the diffusion of sodium ions . These results will pave a significant way for designing cathode material for SIBs with different structure by the substitution of transition metal elements.

Although Epirubicin (EPI) is a commonly used anthracycline for the treatment of breast cancer in clinic, the serious side effects limit its long-term administration including myelosuppression and cardiomyopathy. Nanomedicines have been widely utilized as drug delivery vehicles to achieve precise targeting of breast cancer cells. Herein, we prepared a DSPE-PEG nanocarrier conjugated a peptide, which targeted the breast cancer overexpression protein Na+/K+ ATPase α1 (NKA-α1). The nanocarrier encapsulated the EPI and grafted with the NKA-α1 targeting peptide through the click reaction between maleimide and thiol groups. The EPI was slowly released from the nanocarrier after entering the breast cancer cells with the guidance of the targeting NKA-α1 peptide. The precise and controllable delivery and release of the EPI into the breast cancer cells dramatically inhibited the cells proliferation and migration in vitro and suppressed the tumor volume in vivo. These results demonstrate significant prospects for this nanocarrier as a promising platform for numerous chemotherapy drugs.

The large-scale discharge of Na + -rich wastewater has intensified the global freshwater crisis. Flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) offers a promising electrosorption technology for desalination. Lignin is the representative by-product of the papermaking industry, and lignin-derived biochar has been intensively investigated as an active material for flow-electrode material. In this study, we proposed a facile dual-salt (KCl and LiCl) catalysis method during hydrothermal carbonization to prepare lignin-derived biochar (Li-K-LCN). The characterization results showed that the dual-salt catalysts exerted combined effect by physical structure optimization and surface chemical modification based on the cleavage of low bond energy moieties (β-O-4 ether bond and methoxyl group) in the lignin structure. When employed in a flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) system for Na + removal, Li-K-LCN electrode achieved a stable removal efficiency of over 83.3%, an electrosorption capacity of 26.03 mg g −1 , and low energy consumption of 0.015 J mg −1 . Toxicity tests indicated a preliminary favorable improvement in the environmental safety of the treated effluent. This work presented a simple and efficient dual-salt catalysis method to synthesize lignin-derived biochar towards competitive Na + removal via FCDI, achieving the goal of a low-cost, high-value-added by-product lignin utilization.

To date, the fabrication of advanced anode materials that can accommodate both Na+and K+storage is still very challenging. Herein, we developed a facile solvothermal and subsequent annealing process to synthesize SnS2/RGO composite, in which SnS2nanosheets are bonded on RGO, and investigated their potential as anodes for Na+and K+storage. When used as an anode in SIBs, the as-prepared SnS2/RGO displays preeminent performance (581 mAh g−1at 0.5 A g−1after 80 cycles), which is a significant improvement compared with pure SnS2. More encouragingly, SnS2/RGO also exhibits good cycling stability (130 mAh g−1at 0.3 A g−1after 300 cycles) and excellent rate capability (520.8 mAh g−1at 0.05 A g−1and 281.4 mAh g−1at 0.5 A g−1) when used as anode for PIBs. The well-engineered structure not only guarantees the fast electrode reaction kinetics, but also ensures superior pseudocapacitance contribution during repeated cycles, which has been proved by kinetic analysis.

Hard carbon, one of the most commercially promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), faces challenges in balancing rate performance, initial cycle charge efficiency (ICE), and reversible capacity. To enhance specific capacity and achieve high ICE, it is essential to construct hard carbon with abundant sodium-active sites and a controllable graphitization degree. This work presents a comprehensive approach to microstructural regulation of hard carbon through in situ doping and subsequent removal, which introduces active sites and optimizes the microporous structure. It overcomes the limitations of traditional templating methods, such as excessive specific surface area, which leads to low initial coulombic efficiency and poor cycling performance. This method yields high reversible capacity (419.3 mAh g −1 @0.05 A g −1 ), excellent ICE (95.88%), and outstanding cycling stability. This study presents a viable approach to enhancing the performance of porous hard carbon. It offers a rational design strategy for optimizing HC structures, improving sodium storage performance, and facilitating their practical applications.

Topological chemical reaction methods are indispensable for fabricating new materials or optimizing their functional properties, which is particularly important for two-dimensional (2D)-layered compounds with versatile structures. Herein, we demonstrate a low-temperature (∼350 °C) ion exchange approach to prefabricate metastable phosphors ALa1–xTa2O7:xBi3+ (A = K and Na) with RbLa1–xTa2O7:xBi3+ serving as precursors. The as-prepared ALa0.98Ta2O7:0.02 Bi3+ (A = Rb, K, and Na) share the same Dion–Jacobson type 2D-layered perovskite phase, and photoluminescence analyses show that ALa0.98Ta2O7:0.02 Bi3+ (A = Rb, K, and Na) phosphors exhibit broad emission bands peaking at 540, 550, and 510 nm, respectively, which are attributed to the nonradiative transition of Bi3+ from excited state 3P1 or 3P0 to ground state 1S0. The various Bi3+ local environments at the crystallographic sites enable the different distributions of emission and excitation spectra, and the photoluminescence tuning of ALa0.98Ta2O7:0.02 Bi3+ (A = Rb, K, and Na) phosphors are realized through alkali metal ion exchange. Notably, the combination of superior trivalent bismuth emission and low-temperature ion exchange synthesis leads to a novel yellow-emitting K(La0.98Bi0.02)Ta2O7 phosphor which is successfully applied in a white LED device based on a commercially available 365 nm LED chip. Our realizable cases of this low-temperature ion exchange strategy could promote exploration into metastable phosphors with intriguing properties.

In addition to the common sodium salt, potassium salt, magnesium salt, and sulfate, salt lake brine is also rich in trace components in varying degrees, such as lithium, bromine, rubidium, cesium, and so forth, which is of great industrial value. These trace components are further concentrated and enriched in old brine during the process of evaporation and concentration of brine resources. In view of the coexistence characteristics of lithium, potassium, bromine, and other ions in old halide, the phase equilibria of quinary system Li+, Na+, K+/Br–, and SO42––H2O were studied by the isothermal dissolution equilibrium method at 298.15 K. The solubility data of the equilibrium liquid phase were measured, and the compositions of the solid phase as well as the crystal forms of the equilibrium solid phase were identified when the equilibrium was achieved. The corresponding 3D and dry-base phase diagrams (Na2SO4·10H2O, K2SO4, LiBr·2H2O, Li2SO4·H2O, KBr, and NaBr·2H2O saturated) were drawn based on the phase equilibrium experimental data. The research results of phase equilibria and phase diagrams reveal that the phase relations and crystallization–dissolution law of each component in solution lay a certain foundation for further research on multi-temperature phase equilibrium and thermodynamic properties of the high-component brine system and to provide basic thermodynamic data for guiding the rational development and comprehensive utilization of brine resources.

Fundamental understanding of the effect of doping on the optical properties of 3D double perovskites (DPs) especially the dynamics of self-trapped excitons (STEs) is of vital importance for their optoelectronic applications. Herein, a unique strategy via Cu + doping to achieve efficient STE emission in the alloyed lead-free Cs 2 (Ag/Na)InCl 6 DPs is reported. A small amount (1.0 mol%) of Cu + doping results in boosted STE emission in the crystals, with photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield increasing from 19.0% to 62.6% and excitation band shifting from 310 to 365 nm. Temperature-dependent PL and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopies reveal that the remarkable PL enhancement originates from the increased radiative recombination rate and density of STEs, as a result of symmetry breakdown of the STE wavefunction at the octahedral Ag + site. These findings provide deep insights into the STE dynamics in Cu + -doped Cs 2 (Ag/Na)InCl 6 , thereby laying a foundation for the future design of new lead-free DPs with efficient STE emission.
