Electrochemical immunoassays are commonly used to detect biomarkers and Ti 3 C 2 MXene anchored CuAu-LDH two-dimensional hydroxide heterojunctions for dual-mode electrochemical immunosensors were fabricated in this work. Layered double hydroxides have a large surface area, high chemical stability, tunable metal composition and interchangeable anions, however, the insulating nature of LDH further limits its catalytic performance. For this reason, Ti 3 C 2 Mxenes were introduced to improve this problem. 2D layers of Ti 3 C 2 Mxenes with large specific surface area and excellent conductivity have been well proven and widely used. And the surface of Ti 3 C 2 Mxenes (due to the presence of abundant surface functional groups), will facilitate the anchoring of metal ions and the nucleation of LDH. In addition, its excellent electrical conductivity will facilitate the electron transfer between Cu 2+ and Cu + . The immunosensor not only showed a heavy square wave voltammetry (SWV) signal. It also exhibited high electrocatalytic activity for H 2 O 2 redox reactions and improves the sensitivity of the Ampere Current (i-t) detection. The CEA immunosensor developed in this study showed a wide linear response (0.0001–80 ng/mL) and the lowest detection limits (SWV: 33.6 fg/mL and i-t: 45.4 fg/mL S/N = 3). The results confirmed the excellent analytical capability of the immunosensor.

Ternary Ti 3 C 2 –OH/ln 2 S 3 /CdS composites with an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance have been prepared via a facile hydrothermal synthesis method. The photo-degradation experiments verified that Ti 3 C 2 –OH/ln 2 S 3 /CdS composite with a large surface area of 68.2 m 2 /g exhibited an enhanced photocatalytic activity and adsorption capacity towards Rhodamine B under visible light irradiation , which was higher than that of the naked CdS and ln 2 S 3 , respectively. Furthermore, Ti 3 C 2 –OH/ln 2 S 3 /CdS composite showed robust degradation efficiency for mixture dyes of RhB and Methyl Orange (MO), and its catalytic ability was superior to that of ternary GO/ln 2 S 3 /CdS composite. The trapping experiments for active species revealed that hole (h + ) and • O 2 − species played a critical role in the removal of organic pollutants. In summary, the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Ti 3 C 2 –OH/ln 2 S 3 /CdS photocatalyst was derived from an excellent charge carrier separation and transfer of Ti 3 C 2 –OH MXene and the synergistic effect between CdS and ln 2 S 3 which resulting in strong visible light response.

Due to the low abundance of miRNAs and the coordinated regulation of multiple miRNAs toward some biological processes, a method that can sensitively and simultaneously detect multiple miRNAs is needed. Here, a strand displacement dual amplification (SDDA) strategy was developed for multiple miRNAs analyses using a unique single strand-double strand-single strand DNA (sdsDNA), which generated by the target recognition probe hybridizing with the site region probe. During the process of SDDA, miRNA hybridized to the target recognition domain of sdsDNA, thereby releasing the site, which triggered the first strand displacement reaction. This strand displacement event resulted in the release of the other site, triggering the second strand displacement reaction. Both two strand displacement reactions in each assembly circle were integrated for amplified signals, which were tested by a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) assay. NaYF 4 :Yb,Tm/Er UCNPs and Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets were used as the energy donor-acceptor pair. By employing 1:2 ratio of donor-acceptor, the energy transfer efficiency between NaYF 4 :Yb,Tm/Er UCNPs and Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets could reach 90%, which enhanced signal-to-background ratio. Combining the benefits of dual amplification and efficient energy transfer on miRNAs detection, this assay exhibited a linear range from 5 fM to 100 pM for miRNA-21 and miRNA-10b. Moreover, this assay was applied to estimate the expression of miRNA-21 and miRNA-10b in human hepatoma and hepatocyte cell lines. Therefore, this FRET-based SDDA strategy has been used for highly sensitive detection of multiple miRNAs in cell lysate and facilitates the development of efficient biosensor platform.

Ti 3 C 2 -MXene, which exhibits excellent electronic conductivity and optical properties , has been identified as a promising noble-metal-free co-catalyst for the development of efficient photocatalysts for environmental remediation. Herein, CeO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 -MXene hybrids were prepared by the in-situ growth of cube-like CeO 2 using ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 -MXene nanosheets as a two-dimensional platform via a simple hydrothermal route. Upon exposure to solar light, the CeO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 -MXene hybrid with the optimal ratio of Ti 3 C 2 -MXene exhibited enhanced performance in photocatalytic tetracycline degradation and CO 2 reduction, with activities 6.3 and 1.5 times greater than those of pristine CeO 2 , respectively. The improved activity of CeO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 -MXene was attributed to the Schottky junction induced by the built-in electric field between CeO 2 and Ti 3 C 2 -MXene, which drives the photogenerated electrons from CeO 2 to Ti 3 C 2 -MXene and expedites the segregation of the electrons and holes. This work may shed light on the careful design of novel Schottky junctions utilizing noble-metal free Ti 3 C 2 -MXene as co-catalysts for building efficient photocatalytic systems enacted in pollutant degradation and energy conversion.

Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) via water splitting is a prospective technology for achieving the sustainable production of hydrogen. So, ruthenium-based electrocatalysts have been extensively studied. However, metallic ruthenium tends to agglomerate due to the high cohesive energy, resulting in decreased HER performance in practical usage. Introducing sufficient support for dispersing and immobilizing ruthenium-based species is a viable way to enhance the utilization efficiency. MXene-based materials with unique surface termination groups, superior chemical stability, high specific surface area and favorable electrical conductivity have received significant attention as low-cost carriers for the development of active catalysts in HER. Herein, nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) atom-doped titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 ) quantum dots (QDs) were successfully synthesized as efficient carriers for anchoring ultra-small ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) toward electrocatalytic HER. Electrochemical tests reveal that the resultant N,S-Ti 3 C 2 QDs/Ru displays superior HER performance with low overpotentials of 28, 25 and 56 mV at 10 mA cm −2 current density in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , 1 M KOH and 1 M PBS solutions, respectively. Such a low overpotential is comparable to most previously reported non-metallic catalysts, Ru-based electrocatalysts and commercial Pt/C. In addition, N,S-Ti 3 C 2 QDs/Ru displays extraordinarily long-term stability over a relatively wide pH range and is indeed a kind of pH-universal catalyst for hydrogen evolution. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the interactions between metal Ru and N,S-Ti 3 C 2 MXene QDs effectively regulate the electronic structure of the active site Ru, lowering the energy barrier of the electrocatalytic HER intermediate, thus dramatically enhancing the activity for N,S-Ti 3 C 2 QDs/Ru. This work proposes a novel approach to functionalize MXene quantum dots for use as low-cost electrocatalysts with promising practical applications in renewable energy conversion.

Self-healing polyurethane (SPU) has important applications in areas such as protective coatings, medical devices and solid lubrication . However, improving the lubricating properties of self-healing polyurethanes to reduce their friction and wear is still an important challenge. Herein, an amphoteric SPU is prepared and used as the solid lubrication matrix. NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8 is grown on NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 in situ to obtain NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8 as lubrication additive. The lubrication performance of NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8/SPU composites is the best when the NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8 content is 1.00 wt%. The coefficient of friction (COF) is only 0.10, and the wear rate is only 1.315×10 −4 mm 3 /(N·m), which are reduced by 80.4 % and 99.4 % respectively compared with single SPU. By exploring the lubrication mechanism, it is found that NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8 participated in producing transfer film during friction, and the excellent lubricity and anti-wear effect of NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 and the unique adsorption and rolling effect of ZIF-8 jointly improved the friction performance of the samples. In addition, the composite material can realize rapid healing within 5 min at 75 %RH, 20℃, the self-healing efficiency can reach 84.7 %. Therefore, the SPU containing NH 2 -Ti 3 C 2 -ZIF-8 has potential applications in the field of solid lubricated materials.

A surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) biosensor is presented which facilitates rapid and sensitive detection of the ovarian cancer biomarker carbohydrate antigens 125 (CA125). The CA125 protein was specifically captured and directly recognized by polyadenylic (polyA)-modified DNA aptamer on the surface of a Au chip. The biosensor demonstrated a linear range of direct detection of CA125 based on SPRi from 20 nM to 0.5 nM, with a detection limit of 0.47 nM. Furthermore, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were synthesized in situ on the carboxyl-functionalized two-dimensional (2D) material Ti 3 C 2 to obtain MXC/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposites. The large surface area of Ti 3 C 2 provides ample binding sites for the in situ generation of Fe 3 O 4 and this facilitates subsequent immobilization of DNA aptamers. The amino-modified DNA aptamer interacted with carboxylate sites activated on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 , and the aptamer was immobilized on the MXC/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite surface. Due to the magnetic properties of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles within the composite material, CA125 protein in serum can be effectively captured and separated under an external magnetic field. The captured protein forms a sandwich amplification structure with the DNA adapter on the surface of the Au chip, thereby enhancing the detection signal of CA125. The biosensor demonstrates a linear detection range from 0.5 pM to 1000 pM, with a detection limit as low as 81 fM. The unique separation capability of the composite nanomaterials enables the biosensor to detect CA125 protein as low as 1 pM in complex liquid matrices such as serum, achieving exceptional selectivity, accuracy, and sensitivity in detecting the ovarian cancer marker. This capability significantly supports the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Graphical abstract

Intrinsic self-healing waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is an environmentally friendly, economically viable, and practical novel intelligent material. However, the key to achieving practical applications lies in the remote activation of repair in self-healing materials and the excellent mechanical properties of the matrix. In this study, we introduce quadruple hydrogen bonding in the polyurethane backbone. We have incorporated a novel two-dimensional sheet-like material, MXene, to achieve visible light remote-driven self-healing of material hydrogen bonds while enhancing the material’s mechanical properties. By utilizing the MXene supernatant, this approach not only resolves the issues of poor stability and easy sedimentation of MXene nanosheets in water-based polymers but also helps to prevent resource wastage. Our research results demonstrate that the composite film exhibits a tensile strength of 6.55 MPa and a fracture elongation of 604%. Additionally, quadruple hydrogen bonds in the WPU chains enable rapid self-healing of microcracks under visible light irradiation at 300 mW/cm2, with complete disappearance within 80 min.

Silicon anodes hold promise for future lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their high capacity, but they face challenges such as severe volume expansion and low electrical conductivity. In this study, we present a straightforward and scalable electrostatic self-assembly method to fabricate WSi@SiO x /Ti 3 C 2 composites for LIBs. Silicon nanosheets and the ultra-thin oxide layer SiO x serve as sufficient buffers against volume changes, while the layered MXene enhances the electrical conductivity of the composite and promoted Li + /e − transport. Additionally, cationic surfactant-treated Ti 3 C 2 provides more active sites for WSi@SiO x attachment and acts as an intercalating agent, enabling WSi@SiO x to enter the interlayer spaces of Ti 3 C 2 . The WSi@SiO x /Ti 3 C 2 electrodes significantly improved electrochemical performance, achieving a capacity of 1,130 mAh g −1 after 800 charge/discharge cycles at 500 mA g −1 . This study not only presents a straightforward pathway for high-value utilization of silicon waste but also offers a feasible route for preparing high-performance and cost-effective silicon-based LIBs.

A novel chitosan-based composite hydrogel (CS/PEI-MXene) made of polyethyleneimine and Ti 3 C 2 MXene as modifiers and acrolein as crosslinker has been synthesized simply and conveniently, which could be applied in the removal of residual antibiotic pharmaceuticals (chlortetracycline (CTC), ibuprofen (IBU), etc.) from aqueous environments. The CS/PEI-MXene was used as an adsorbent for chlortetracycline and ibuprofen. The removal rates of CTC and IBU could be achieved to 91.1 % and 99.25 %, respectively. In addition, the reusability of CS/PEI-MXene for CTC and IBU appeared good capacity, and the removal rate was maintained at approximately 70 % after five cycles. FT-IR, XPS, and zeta potential were used to show that the hydrogel was successfully synthesized, and its physicochemical characteristics were studied. Systematically examined were conducted on the effects of pH (3−10), contact time (0–120 min), and temperature (30–40 °C) on the adsorption efficiency of CS/PEI-MXene. The adsorption mechanism of CS/PEI-MXene on CTC and IBU mainly included electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding. Overall, the development of MXene based hydrogel adsorbent will provide a practical approach to the treatment of wastewater containing antibiotic pharmaceuticals and have great potential for practical applications.

The inherently weak Raman signals from molecules with small scattering cross-sections pose a significant challenge for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), a technique that is further limited by its reliance on costly precious metal substrates and exogenous labeling strategies. To address these limitations, this study constructs a Ti3C2–CoFe2O4 heterostructure by anchoring oxidase (OXD)-like CoFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) on two-dimensional (2D) conductive Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets. The resulting interface forms a Mott–Schottky junction, which facilitates rapid charge transfer and synergistically enhances both catalytic and SERS performance. Structurally, the 2D Ti3C2 framework provides abundant anchoring sites for the uniform dispersion of CoFe2O4 NPs. This effectively prevents particle aggregation and maximizes the exposure of catalytic active sites, thereby enhancing both stability and catalytic activity. Additionally, the Ti3C2–CoFe2O4 heterojunction effectively suppresses the recombination of charge carriers and promotes the separation of photogenerated charges, generating abundant superoxide anion radicals that oxidize 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) for catalytic signal amplification. Therefore, the ingenious combination of nanozymes and SERS technology enables the generation of SERS-active reporters via nanozyme-catalyzed reactions, thus avoiding the need for external labeling modifications. The strategy simultaneously enhances Raman signals through the synergistic effect of photoinduced charge transfer and localized surface plasmon resonance. This Ti3C2–CoFe2O4 heterojunction exhibits integrated OXD-like activity and SERS enhancement, enabling sensitive glutathione (GSH) detection in human serum samples. Through catalytic oxidation of TMB to oxidized TMB, a distinct Raman peak emerges at 1615 cm−1, with its intensity reduction quantitatively correlating with GSH concentration via competitive reactive oxygen species scavenging. Quantitative analysis demonstrates a linear response range of 0.50–200 μmol L−1 and a detection limit of 0.073 μmol L−1, with serum sample recoveries ranging from 94.7%–115%. This study provides a paradigm for designing non-precious metal nanozyme materials with integrated catalytic and SERS capabilities, demonstrating significant potential for practical applications in clinical diagnostics and biosensing.

In this work, we report the remarkable catalytic effects of a novel Ti3C2 MXene-based catalyst (Ni@Ti-MX), which was prepared via self-assembling of Ni nanoparticles onto the surface of exfoliated Ti3C2 nanosheets. The resultant Ni@Ti-MX catalyst, characterized by ultradispersed Ni nanoparticles being anchored on the monolayer Ti3C2 flakes, was introduced into MgH2 through ball milling. In situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed that a synergetic catalytic effect of multiphase components (Mg2Ni, TiO2, metallic Ti, etc.) derived in the MgH2 + Ni@Ti-MX composite exhibits remarkable improvements in the hydrogen sorption kinetics of MgH2. In particular, the MgH2 + Ni@Ti-MX composite can absorb 5.4 wt % H2 in 25 s at 125 °C and release 5.2 wt % H2 in 15 min at 250 °C. Interestingly, it can uptake 4 wt % H2 in 5 h even at room temperature. Furthermore, the dehydrogenation peak temperature of the MgH2 + Ni@Ti-MX composite is about 221 °C, which is 50 and 122 °C lower than that of MgH2 + Ti-MX and MgH2, respectively. The excellent hydrogen sorption properties of the MgH2 + Ni@Ti-MX composite are primarily attributed to the peculiar core–shell nanostructured MgH2@Mg2NiH4 hybrid materials and the interfacial coupling effects from different catalyst–matrix interfaces. The results obtained in this study demonstrate that using self-assembling of transition-metal elements on two-dimensional (2D) materials as a catalyst is a promising approach to enhance the hydrogen storage properties of MgH2.
