Piezo-photocatalytic materials are capable of simultaneously harvesting solar energy and mechanical energy, thereby exhibiting broad application potentials in energy harvesting and environmental decontamination. In this work, a dual-piezoelectric heterostructure was constructed by chemically bonding BaTiO 3 nanorods with MoS 2 nanospheres via a facile hydrothermal method. Under light irradiation, the formation of Mo-O covalent bonds at the BaTiO 3 /MoS 2 interface provides efficient charge-transfer channels for photogenerated electrons (e⁻) and holes (h⁺), effectively suppressing their recombination. Upon the introduction of ultrasonic vibration, the piezoelectric potential induces interfacial band bending, generating a built-in electric field that drives the spatial separation of charge carriers and significantly prolongs their lifetime. Benefiting from the coupled effect of ultrasonic vibration and light irradiation, the MoS 2 /BaTiO 3 composite exhibits outstanding degradation performance toward Rhodamine B (20 mg L −1 ), achieving a removal efficiency of 95.2% within 1 h. The corresponding rate constant (k value) is 8.5 and 16.9 times higher than those of pristine MoS 2 and BaTiO 3 , respectively. Moreover, the piezo-photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate reaches 2874.49 μmol g −1 h −1 , which is 2.4 and 2.0 times higher than that of pure MoS 2 and BaTiO 3 , respectively. Based on experimental results and theoretical calculations, it was proposed that the type-II heterojunction structure is favorable for electron transfer. The MoS 2 /BaTiO 3 nanocomposite exhibits markedly enhanced piezo-photocatalytic degradation performance and hydrogen evolution activity. This study provides valuable insights into the rational design of unique heterostructures capable of simultaneously driving pollutant degradation and hydrogen generation, showing great potential for applications in environmental decontamination and sustainable energy conversion.

Textiles, owing to their excellent breathability, softness, and structural elasticity, hold great potential for applications in flexible sensors and intelligent wearable devices. Piezoelectric sensors have become a research hotspot in wearable technology due to their capability for long-term sensing and monitoring. In this work, coaxial electrospinning with dual nozzles (inner and outer) operating simultaneously was employed to fabricate nanofibers, where the synergistic effects of graphene oxide (GO) and barium titanate (BTO) doping were utilized to enhance the piezoelectric performance of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). GO, known for its high electrical conductivity, contributed to improved sensitivity of the composite nanofiber membrane after incorporation. When the mass fraction of GO was 0.1 wt% and that of BTO was 5 wt%, the β -phase content in PVDF reached its maximum value of 84.72%. Under an applied force of 2.2 N, the output voltage of the PVDF/GO/BTO composite nanofiber membrane reached 14.35 V, demonstrating a further enhancement in piezoelectric performance compared with single-component conductive fillers. Moreover, under a test load range of 0–3 N, the piezoelectric film exhibited a high sensitivity of 4.122 V·N⁻ 1 , and durability testing over 500 cycles confirmed its excellent mechanical robustness. Finally, a flexible piezoelectric sensor was fabricated and applied to human motion monitoring, confirming its outstanding potential for wearable sensing applications.

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) have attracted significant attention in soft actuation technologies. However, traditional dielectric elastomers (DEs) commonly suffer from high actuation voltage requirements and limited deformation responses. To address these challenges, a TPU/DBA/BaTiO 3 dielectric elastomer film with enhanced polarity and flexibility was constructed through solution casting, integrating dibutyl adipate (DBA) as a polar plasticizer, barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) as a high-dielectric filler, and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) as the elastic matrix. Comprehensive characterization by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the uniform microstructure and consistent chemical composition of the composite films, with 0.5 wt% BaTiO 3 identified as the optimal loading to achieve homogeneous dispersion and ensure structural integrity. The incorporation of DBA significantly plasticized the TPU matrix, leading to a drastic reduction in Young’s modulus (0.29 MPa) and bending stiffness (0.00025 N·mm), thereby imparting high flexibility and enabling large deformations. Simultaneously, BaTiO 3 nanofillers boosted the dielectric constant to 4782 at 1 Hz, an enhancement attributed to the synergistic effects of DBA-induced dipolar alignment and BaTiO 3 -derived interfacial polarization. The optimized film exhibited a maximum bending displacement of 13.2 mm under 1200 V and retained stable deformation throughout 600 cycles at 1000 V and 1 Hz, evidencing outstanding cyclic durability. Moreover, the addition of 0.5 wt% BaTiO 3 substantially boosted rolling actuation, producing rapid displacement with a velocity of 135 mm·s −1 , which verifies the validity of the synergistic “plasticizer-filler” approach. This work demonstrates that a precise balance between filler loading and plasticizer incorporation is essential for tailoring dielectric and mechanical properties toward high actuation efficiency. Consequently, the TPU/DBA/BaTiO 3 dielectric elastomer provides a versatile material system for flexible actuators with potential applications in soft robotics, wearable electronics, and artificial muscles.

The continuous miniaturization of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) leads to elevated electric fields, reducing the dielectric constant of BaTiO 3 -based ceramics under DC bias. While doping-induced polar nanoregions (PNRs) can enhance DC-bias stability, they often reduce dielectric constant due to the lack of precise control over local polarization structures. Here, a site-selective entropy engineering strategy is employed to systematically compare A-site and B-site substitutions using Ba 1-4x Sr x Ca x La x Na x TiO 3 and BaTi 1-4x Zr x Hf x Ta x Y x O 3 (x = 0.05–0.2). By maintaining comparable configurational entropy (ΔS config ), the distinct roles of A-site and B-site disorder are decoupled. The results reveal that A-site entropy preserves relatively large and correlated PNRs, enabling a higher dielectric constant with improved DC-bias stability. In contrast, B-site entropy introduces stronger local lattice disorder and more randomized PNRs, as evidenced by PFM and TEM observations, leading to suppressed polarization saturation and enhanced thermal and DC-bias stability, but at the expense of a reduced dielectric constant. These findings establish a site-dependent entropy regulation mechanism and provide a rational framework for designing high-performance BT-based dielectrics with optimized high-field reliability.

The present study reports on entropy-engineered perovskite ceramics (Ca1/3Sr1/3Ba1/3)(SnxTi1−x)O3 (CSBTO-xSn) with varying Sn-doping levels (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3), achieved through synergistic compositional design in both the A-sites and B-sites of the perovskite. Increasing the Sn-doping content induces a transition in configuration entropy from medium to high values. Notably, at an optimal composition of x = 0.1, the ceramic exhibits exceptional energy storage characteristics including an ultrahigh recoverable energy density (Wrec) of 5.05 J cm−3 and a high efficiency (η) of 82.56% at an electric field strength (Eb) of 540 kV cm−1 over a wide temperature range spanning from 30 to 100 °C and frequencies ranging from 1 Hz to 200 Hz. Furthermore, this ceramic demonstrates remarkable charge–discharge properties with a discharge energy density (Wdis) of 2.94 J cm−3 and a rapid discharge rate of t0.9 ∼ 67 ns. This study underscores the effectiveness of entropy engineering as a viable approach for developing advanced energy storage capacitors.

Ultrathin and flexible layers containing BaTiO3 (BTO) nanoparticles, graphene oxide (GO) sheets, and carbon nanotube (CNT) films (BTO/GO@CNT) are used to trap solvated polysulfides and alleviate the shuttle effect in lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. In the functional layers, the CNT films build a conductive framework, and the GO sheets form a support membrane for the uniform dispersion of BTO nanoparticles. BTO nanoparticles without ferroelectricity (nfBTO) can trap polysulfides more effectively by chemical interaction compared to BTO nanoparticles with ferroelectricity (fBTO). A Li–S cell with the nfBTO/GO@CNT functional layer exhibits a reversible capacity of 824.5 mA h g−1 over 100 cycles at 0.2 C. At a high sulfur loading of 5.49 mg cm−2, an electrode with the functional layer shows an areal capacity of 5.15 mA h cm−2 at 0.1 C, demonstrating the nfBTO/GO@CNT functional layer's potential in developing high-performance Li–S batteries.

Due to the tendency of base metallization of the inner electrodes in BaTiO 3 based multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), they usually need to be sintered in reducing atmosphere. However, the reducing atmosphere will change the properties of BaTiO 3 based dielectric materials , which will affect their properties and applications. Therefore, in this study, BaTi 1- x Mn x O 3 ( x = 0.003, 0.006, 0.01) ceramics were prepared by solid phase method and sintered in air and reducing atmosphere. The effects of MnO 2 doping and different sintering atmosphere on dielectric properties and reliability of the materials were studied. The results show that the dielectric constant and insulation resistance of the samples decreases with the increase of doping concentration. In addition, the dielectric constant of the samples sintered in air is lower than that in reducing atmosphere, when x = 0.003, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss are 2011, 2205 and 1.5 %, 1.4 %, respectively. This is due to the effect of flippable and non-flippable domain density, which is proportional to the dielectric constant and dependent on the defect dipole. However, the insulation resistivity of samples sintered in air is higher than that in reducing atmosphere, when x = 0.003, it is 3.3 × 10 12 Ω mm and 1.0 × 10 12 Ω mm, respectively. The decrease of insulation resistivity is related to oxygen vacancy and dipole defect. This study provides an important reference for further improving the performance of base metal electrode MLCCs.

In the field of self-powered sensing, the need for wearing comfort and flexibility of the material is increasing. Although piezoelectric ceramics have excellent piezoelectric properties, their poor flexibility limits their application range. In the quest for better wearing comfort, nanocomposite polymers using elastomers as polymer matrices are rapidly emerging. However, there still exists a challenge to achieve uniform dispersion of nanofillers in the polymer matrix due to their significant difference in surface energy. In this work, a novel thermoplastic polyamide elastomer (TPAE) based nanocomposite with strong interfacial strength and uniform dispersion was proposed, which was achieved through incorporating γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550)-functionalized BaTiO3 nanoparticles (KH550@BTO) into in situ polycondensation of TPAE for flexible piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) with sensing capability. The PENGs not only possessed excellent mechanical properties (elongation at break ∼ 400%) but also exhibited good piezoelectric behavior (VOC ∼ 19 V, ISC ∼ 121 nA). Moreover, the PENGs exhibited excellent durability, stability (6000 cycles without degradation), and rapid response time (∼21 ms), which was superior to those of most reported BTO-based nanocomposites. Based on the performance, the PENG could be used to monitor human motions after the assembly of wireless wearable devices, and different badminton serving postures were further recognized by the assistance of machine learning. This work provides an innovative approach for the preparation of soft piezoelectric nanocomposites, which is helpful for self-powered and wireless flexible sensors with better performance and more comfortable use in human motion monitoring and recognition.

High-entropy (1− x )Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 K 0.5 Ba 0.5 Ca 0.5 TiO 3 - x BaTiO 3 (BNKBCT-BT, x = 0.02, 0.06, 0.10, 0.14 and 0.20) ceramics are successfully prepared via the solid-state reaction method. The XRD and Raman analyses reveal that all samples exhibit a pseudo-cubic phase structure. With increasing x , the a is gradually increased, resulting in the expansion of unit cell volume. A strong frequency dispersion appeared around T m , demonstrating that the as-prepared ceramics is a relaxor ferroelectric . Owing to the increase in the degree of lattice disorder, as well as relaxation and thermal evolution of PUs, the as-prepared ceramics exhibit a broad relaxor behavior. The Δ P is effectively increased by doping BT, which is conducive to achieving excellent energy storage properties. Moreover, W rec of all samples is more than 1.31 J/cm 3 and, at x = 0.20, W rec reaches the maximum value of 2.24 J/cm 3 at 140 kV/cm. These results indicate that high-entropy (1− x )BNKBCT- x BT ceramics are promising materials for energy storage applications.

A new piezo-catalytic reactor (PCR) was constructed. It was used to investigate the piezocatalytic degradation of pollutants and simultaneous response of current. It was found that PCR with SnO 2 / t -BaTiO 3 /ITO film anode possessed a more favourable piezocatalytic degradation and piezo-current response than PCR with only ITO or t -BaTiO 3 /ITO film anode, individually. For HCOOH, the degradation rate, short circuit current (I sc ) and open-circuit voltage (V oc ) reached 77.8 mg·L -1 ·h −1 , 5.12 µA, and 0.65 V, respectively, under its optimal condition. Its anodic process predominantly involved the piezocatalytic oxidations of H 2 O to •OH and HCOOH to CO 2 , while the cathodic process was mainly related to the reduction of O 2 to •O 2 – or H 2 O 2 and reduction of H + ion to H 2 . Although these processes were depended on the energy band structure of t -BaTiO 3 and redox potential of cathodic reactions, they were all initiated by the piezoelectric effect of t -BaTiO 3 , which drove the separation of intrinsic free carries to generate oxidative holes and reductive electrons. These investigation results and findings not only deepened the understanding of its piezo-current response, but also possibly extended the application of piezocatalysis to fuel cell.

In the background of air pollution and regular COVID-19 prevention, personal protective masks are necessary for our daily life. However, protective masks with high PM0.3 filtration usually have poor air permeability and are mostly disposable, leading to a heavy burden on the environment. In this work, a reusable membrane based on piezoelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] nanofibers embedded with BaTiO3 nanoparticles (BTO NPs) was developed. The P(VDF-TrFE)/BTO composite nanofibers not only have enhanced piezoelectricity and surface polarity but also have reduced diameters that could be beneficial for electrostatic adhesion, pole–polar interactions, and mechanical sieving to increase the PM0.3 capture capacity. Moreover, the BTO NPs also improved the charge storage capacity of the composite membrane, which could further enhance the PM0.3 filtration efficiency after corona treatment. The piezoelectric mask based on P(VDF-TrFE)/BTO composite nanofibers has high filtration efficiencies of 96% for PM0.3 and 98% for bacteria, while the pressure drop was only 182 Pa, which is lower than the commercial N95 standard of 343.2 Pa. Furthermore, the piezoelectric mask has a long and stable filtration performance after 5 cycles of 75% alcohol disinfection, demonstrating that the P(VDF-TrFE)/BTO composite membrane has a potential application in personal protective masks with comfortable and reusable properties.

In this paper, polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films were prepared from a blend of prepolymer, liquid crystal and BaTiO 3 (BTO) nanoparticle-laden nanofibres films by a polymerisation-induced phase separation (PIPS) method. By contrasting the microstructure and electro-optical curves of various proportions of monomer types, it was demonstrated that the hole size of the polymer network had a significant influence on the electro-optical nature of the PDLC films. nanofibres films loaded with different BTO nanoparticle contents were introduced into the liquid crystal mixture specimens, and the alterations in the polymer network, electro-optical nature of these specimens were analysed using SEM images, EDS and electro-optical curves. The electro-optical nature of the nanofibres films doped with PDLCs were found to be improved and the ageing resistance was greatly enhanced. Therefore, the development of PDLC films with faster response times and better electro-optical nature of reticular nanofibres films doped with PDLCs will significantly improve the promising technological applications of PDLC-based equipment for optical windows, displays, energy storage and flexible devices.
