Petal bismuth salt semiconductors are promising as visible-light-driven photocatalysts, but their short service times due to strong oxidation limit their application. In this research, the in situ construction of a p–n heterojunction, by growing BiOX on a KBiO3 surface, is used as a strategy to improve the performance and stability. Evaluation of the photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet and phenol shows that the KBiO3/BiOX (X = Cl, Br, I) heterostructures exhibit significant improvement in photocatalytic performance and stability compared to KBiO3. The best one, KBiO3/(5.85%) BiOI, shows 98% degradation of crystal violet within 20 min, and of phenol within 1.5 h. No significant performance decay can be detected after repeated use. The development of KBiO3/BiOX heterostructure improves the applicability of KBiO3 as an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst.

[diOTMG]Cl@Zr-bptc porous liquid (PL) was successfully prepared. • PL enhanced succinic acid yield 8.71-fold compared to organic amine. • 99.98% pure succinic acid was obtained by PL extraction and crystallization. • Carboxylic acids are separated via affinity and molecular size differences. Global environmental deterioration and plastic pollution drive the demand for biodegradable polymers, which rely on ultrapure monomer, such as succinic acid (SA). However, current bio-SA purification suffers from low purity (94–98%) and complex multistep processes due to similar affinity of homologues. Here, we introduce a type III porous liquid (PL) composed of ionic liquid [diOTMG]Cl and metal-organic framework Zr-bptc for SA purification, achieving 99.98 ± 0.01 wt% SA purity with 84.15% yield after crystallization. This represents an 8.71-fold yield increase in yield and 6.55-fold improvement in selectivity over tri-n-octylamine. Laboratory-scale assessment confirms the PL solution as a sustainable process. Mechanistically, carboxylic acids are extracted synergistically through hydrogen bonding/anion exchange, while Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations showed selective adsorption of acetic acid in Zr-bptc pores. Weak interactions and kinetic size sieving ensure high SA purity. This PL provides an efficient solution for producing polymer-grade monomers, addressing the long-standing challenge in fermented homologue separation. Systematic Br/Cl doping in 2D perovskite TMPI establishes a detailed composition-property database. • Optimal Cl doping (I: Cl = 4:1) enhances solar modulation ability ( Δτsol ) to 27.7%. • Br doping effectively reduces the transition temperature of 2D perovskite to near 40 °C for practical use. • First-principles calculations reveal that water adsorption energy governs transition properties. Buildings account for a large portion of global energy consumption, driving the need for smart windows that can dynamically regulate solar heat. Two-dimensional (2D) thermochromic perovskites offer promising stability, but their practical application is limited by high transition temperatures and modest solar modulation ability. Here, we employ halide engineering via systematic Br/Cl doping in the 2D perovskite Tha 2 MAPbI 4 (TMPI) to optimize these key properties. A systematic Br/Cl doping was conducted in TMPI and established a detailed composition-property database. It is found that optimal Cl doping (I: Cl = 4:1) enhances the solar modulation ability ( Δτ sol ) to 27.7%, while Br doping effectively lowers the transition temperature to near 40 °C. Most importantly, a High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) was employed to characterize the crystallization of 2D perovskites with different halogen dopants, providing the first atomic-scale observation of lattice fringes and SAED patterns in thermochromic metal halide perovskites and revealing the doping-dependent crystallinity evolution. Moreover, first-principles calculations reveal that enhanced water adsorption energy on doped perovskite surfaces governs the reduced transition temperature and faster response kinetics. A real-world model house demonstration confirms the superior cooling performance of the optimized smart window. This work provides not only high-performance material candidates but also a fundamental mechanistic framework for developing energy-efficient, responsive smart windows.

Halide solid-state electrolytes (HSSEs), exemplified by low-cost Li 2 ZrCl 6 , exhibit high ionic conductivity and a wide electrochemical stability window, making them promising for all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). Yet, optimizing HSSEs by elemental doping is either inefficient or costly, necessitating alternative approaches. Inspired by the filler-modified LiI-Al 2 O 3 system with fast-conductive interfacial percolation layer (IPL) and with regard to the underlying insufficient interfacial filler/electrolyte contact with Li 2 ZrCl 6 matrix, which hinders the IPL formation, the use of transition metal oxide Fe 2 O 3 is pioneered as a filler to generate oxygen vacancies and foster benign filler/electrolyte interfaces. At the Fe 2 O 3 /electrolyte interface, synchrotron X-ray adsorption spectra and electron energy loss spectra mapping reveal a distinctive O-Cl exchange reaction and improved interfacial contact. Density function theory, bond-valence site energy calculations, and finite-element simulations validate improved Li + migration via mitigated electrostatic confinement, reduced migration energy barriers, and spatially confined electric-field-accelerated IPLs. Benefiting from these merits, the ionic conductivity of the composite electrolyte surges from 0.4 to 2.15 mS cm −1 , with Li + migration activation energy reduced to 0.28 eV. Paired with the NCM811 cathode, the ASSB delivers 90% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 0.5 C. This work offers a novel, cost-effective strategy for high-performance halide-oxide composite electrolytes from the counterintuitive perspective of nanofiller integration.

Dual-excitation N, Cl-CDs are synthesized for ratiometric RIF sensing. • Ratiometric detection of RIF is achieved with a detection limit of 58 nM. • The sensing mechanism involves synergistic IFE and FRET. • A smartphone integrated finger-actuated microfluidic device enables on-site visual RIF detection. • The platform exhibits satisfactory recovery in aquatic product samples. The increasing environmental prevalence of the antibiotic rifampicin (RIF) poses potential hazards to public health and ecological stability. Herein, a novel ratiometric assay is established by utilizing the dual-excitation nitrogen and chlorine co-doped carbon dots (N, Cl-CDs) for the quantification of trace amounts of RIF. Benefiting from the synergistic effects of the inner filter effect and Förster resonance energy transfer, the N, Cl-CDs act as a sensitive nanoprobe for RIF detection over a concentration range of 0.058–35 μM, with a detection limit of 58 nM. Furthermore, a novel finger-actuated microfluidic sensing platform has been developed through the integration of N, Cl-CDs. By combining the dual-excitation property of the probe with a smartphone-based RGB readout, the platform achieves on-site and visual quantification of RIF in real samples, as validated by high recovery rates ranging from 98.8% to 101.0%. Therefore, this work offers an innovative strategy for RIF sensing and establishes a versatile platform boasting prominent prospects for on-site food safety monitoring. Dichloromethane (DCM), a widely used industrial solvent, represents a primary anthropogenic source of chlorine-containing volatile organic compounds (Cl-VOCs). The adsorption of DCM is usually impeded by the irregular pore structure of commercial activated carbon. To address this limitation, this study developed Fe 3+ modified zeolite-templated carbons (ZTC) for DCM removal at ambient temperature. Comprehensive characterization through BET, XRD, Raman, SEM, TG/DTG, XPS, and NH 3 -TPD confirmed the uniform distribution of Fe 3+ within the ZTC pore channels and revealed its significant impact on surface functional groups and acid sites. The optimized 3 % Fe@ZTC adsorbent demonstrated markedly enhanced performance, achieving a DCM adsorption capacity of 227.9 mg·g −1 at 25 °C. Furthermore, it exhibited excellent regenerability, maintaining 70.2 % of its initial capacity after three regeneration cycles at 500 °C. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations provided mechanistic insights, showing that Fe 3+ modification substantially increased the adsorption energy from 0.90 eV on raw ZTC to 3.56 eV on Fe@ZTC. This enhancement was attributed to uniform Fe 3+ doping, which created hard acid sites that strongly interacted with the hard base site (Cl) of DCM molecules, facilitating Fe-Cl bond formation and substantial charge transfer. This work presents a viable strategy for developing efficient adsorbents for DCM removal from industrial waste gases.

Construction of homogeneous polymer ion-exchange membranes (IEMs) with suitable ion transport channels and stable structures is crucial to the separation of mono-/multi-valent anions. Amphoteric ion-exchange membrane (AIEM) is a special type of IEM that possesses unique properties due to the presence of both anion exchange groups and cation exchange groups. In this work, we have grafted 1-bromoheptane and 3-bromopropanesulfonate onto the poly(aryl ether sulfone) chain through nucleophilic substitution reactions. Unlike the IEM attaching different ion-change functional groups onto one side-chain, this kind of AIEM bears two kinds of ion-change functional groups on dual side-chains. The results show that the as-prepared AIEMs could maintain low water absorption (< 20%) and swelling ratios (< 11%). The optimal surface area resistance is 6.31 Ω∙cm 2 . The perm-selectivity (Cl − /SO 4 2− ) of the optimized PAES-TA/BS-0.85 AIEMs in a binary mixed solution system at 2.5 mA∙cm 2 could be achieved as high as 67.46, which is much higher than commercial ACS IEMs under the same conditions. Small Angle X-ray scattering reveals a distinct phase separation pattern within the AIEM matrix, which is due to the introduction of sulfonates to increase the hydrophilicity of the side-chains. The combined effects of pore size screening and electrostatic repulsion render the high selectivity of as-prepared AIEMs.

Metal halide perovskites are promising materials for next-generation X-ray detectors. Among these materials, CsPbBr3 single crystals (SCs) exhibit high environmental stability, low defect density and high X-ray absorption coefficient, demonstrating excellent X-ray detection performance. However, ion migration in CsPbBr3 induces dark current drift, leading to degraded photocurrent and increased detection limit. Doping CsPbBr3 SCs with mixed halide has emerged as an effective strategy to suppress ion migration, increase resistivity and improve detection sensitivity. In this study, we synthesized lightly doped mixed-halide perovskite CsPb(Br1−nXn)3 (X = Cl, I) SCs with high crystallinity and compositional uniformity using the inverse temperature crystallization method and systematically studied hole and electron transport properties. Our findings indicate that the dark current primarily arises from hole current driven by ion migration associated with halide vacancies. Both chlorine and iodine doping suppress ion migration, with iodine doping exhibiting the best inhibiting effect. With low work function contacts, electron dark current is substantially reduced due to the elimination of hole contributions, and the dark current drift is effectively suppressed. Electron transport dynamics were further explored through α-particle spectroscopy. Analysis of α-particle spectra and carrier transit times revealed that chlorine doping enhances the μ-τ product and charge collection efficiency, whereas light iodine doping results in reduced μ-τ product and slower charge transport. Overall, halide doping combined with contact engineering demonstrates that mixed-halide perovskites hold significant promise for developing high-performance X-ray detectors.

Nanofiltration (NF) membranes with efficient selectivity are critical for addressing water source pollution from toxic heavy metals and emerging micropollutants. Herein, we engineered a polyamide (PA) NF membrane with ambidextrous selectivity by leveraging the concentration-driven effect of piperazine (PIP) during interfacial polymerization (IP). This PIP concentration-driven effect was verified by modulating the PIP concentration gradient from low to high, which enhanced IP efficiency via both an intensified alkaline reaction environment and concentration-driven diffusion. The optimized NF membrane features an ultrafine pore size distribution and reduced electronegativity, exhibiting a remarkable shift from sole SO 4 2− /Cl − selectivity to impressive ambidextrous selectivity, encompassing both SO 4 2− /Cl − (α ≈ 48, 98.3 % for Na 2 SO 4 ) and Mg 2+ /Na + (α ≈ 37, 98.2 % for MgCl 2 ). Moreover, it membrane also achieved exceptional removal efficiencies of 94.8–98.9 % for heavy metals and 77.6–99.3 % for antibiotics, while maintaining a water permeability of 19.3 L/m 2 h bar and mitigating the perm-selectivity trade-off. When purifying surface water containing heavy metals and antibiotics, the optimized NF membrane exhibited superior multi-pollutant removal and improved water production quality compared to the NF270 and NF90 membranes, and especially with its water permeance increased by ~27 % to 179 %. Our work uncovers a fundamental correlation between the PIP concentration, IP reaction, PA nanostructures and NF performance, providing valuable insights into customizing high-performance NF membranes to address complex water pollution challenges.

Folic acid (FA) is a crucial B vitamin for cell formation and maintenance, and its deficiency can lead to severe health disorders, highlighting the importance for accurate FA detection. Chemiluminescence (CL) provides a highly sensitive analytical approach, characterized by simple instrumentation, high accuracy, and low background interference. However, traditional CL techniques are often limited by weak signal intensity and poor robustness. This study presents a novel CL system using well-defined fluorescent Cl, S, N co-doped carbon dots (ClSN-CDs) integrated into the H 2 O 2 -KBrO 3 system. Under acidic conditions, the synergistic effect of H 2 O 2 and KBrO 3 induced ClSN-CDs to emit a strong CL signal, with the emitting species identified as excited-state ClSN-CDs. Trace amounts of FA significantly quenched the CL intensity of the ClSN-CDs-H 2 O 2 -KBrO 3 system, enabling rapid, sensitive, and selective FA detection. The system demonstrated a linear response to FA concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 1.0 μM, with a detection limit of 3.1 nM. Selectivity and recovery studies validated the system's robust analytical performance. Mechanistic investigations revealed that the CL reaction involved reactive oxygen species (ROS), and FA-mediated ROS consumption led to luminescence suppression.

Significant attention has been dovoted to the organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites in the realm of scientific research arising from their distinctive optical and dielectric properties along with structural tunability, rendering them highly versatile and adaptable materials. Herein, two novel one-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites of (4-MPD)MnX3 (4-MPD = 4-methylpiperidinium, X = Cl (1), X = Br (2)) were synthesized and demonstrated to, respectively, undergo reversible phase transitions at 376 and 368 K, characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and dielectric measurements. It is instresting to note that the replacement of Br by the Cl halogen atom has maintained the crsytal structures but devoted a slight increase in phase transition temperature. Variable-temperature structural analyses signify that the order–disorder change of 4-MPD cations acts as the driving force for such phase transitions from the Pnma to P1̅ space group. In addition, compounds 1 and 2 both emit strong red photoluminescence under UV excitation. The two compounds with high-temperature dielectric switching and photoluminescent properties will offer fresh insights for the design and investigation of novel multifunctional organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites.

Direct functionalization of saturated C–H bonds by metalloporphyrin catalysts is among the topical and challenging areas within the chemical industry and synthetic chemistry. In this work, supported CoD(p-Cl)PPCl metalloporphyrin catalysts were prepared and characterized. It has been found that the CoD(p-Cl)PPCl/ZnO catalyst shows better catalytic activity than the supported catalyst (ZrO2, MCM-41, kaolin, Zr(OH)2, and boehmite (BM)) in cyclohexane oxidation with dioxygen. The effects of the reaction pressure, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the catalytic activity were considered by the supported CoD(p-Cl)PPCl/ZnO catalyst. The CoD(p-Cl)PPCl/ZnO catalyst can be facilely recovered and was recycled up to seven times without a significant decrease in catalytic performance. The average cyclohexane conversion and selectivity to KA oil are 10.98% and 84.34%, respectively, and the turnover number is 2.10 × 107.
