Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries exhibit a high specific capacity (1675 mAh g −1 ) but poor S conductivity and severe shuttle effects. Selenium (Se) can greatly mitigate these disadvantages, but its theoretical capacity is relatively low (675 mAh g −1 ). A series of S x -Se y compounds supported by chitosan-derived carbon with intertwined carbon nanotube (CC + CNT) carriers exhibit the high capacity of S, the stability of Se, and the excellent conductivity of C, complementing their individual defects. S 2 Se 1 /CC + CNT shows the best electrochemical performance (833.2 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles). Characterization results reveal the structure–activity relationships and complex reaction mechanisms of the prepared electrode materials. The overall reactions are a combination of basic Li-S and Li-Se reactions. The discharge steps are clearly identifiable, while the reaction sequences are slightly adjusted and fully integrated when charging. This work provides a foundation for future research and for the practical application of chalcogenides in lithium-metal batteries.

A LM/CNTs/NRL conductive ink was developed for DIW 3D printing. • SAP-assisted concentration tailors rheology for printable NRL inks. • Printed elastomers show 16.7 S m - ¹ conductivity and 660% stretchability. • Strain sensors achieve a gauge factor up to 28 with wide strain sensing. • Reliable human motion monitoring demonstrated for wearable sensing. The rapid advancement of flexible electronics requires materials that combine high electrical conductivity, good stretchability, and the capability to form complex three-dimensional structures. Direct ink writing (DIW) 3D printing has emerged as a promising manufacturing strategy due to its flexibility and programmability. However, the development of high-performance conductive inks remains a pivotal challenge. In this study, we report a novel ternary composite ink composed of liquid metal (LM), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and prevulcanized natural rubber latex (NRL). This formulation effectively suppresses aggregation while establishing additional conductive pathways. Meanwhile, renewable and highly elastic NRL serves as the matrix, and the incorporation of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) beads enables physical concentration, significantly enhancing solid content and yield stress to overcome the inherent rheological limitations of pristine NRL. Systematic characterization reveals that the composite achieves balanced performance for target applications at 30 wt% filler loading, exhibiting a tensile elongation at break of up to 660% and an electrical conductivity of 16.7 S·m⁻¹ , thereby achieving an effective balance between electrical and mechanical properties. Rheological analysis confirms pronounced shear-thinning behavior and rapid structural recovery, ensuring excellent printability. Flexible strain sensors fabricated via DIW using this ink demonstrate high sensitivity, with a maximum gauge factor of 28 achieved at 440–500% strain, which is comparable to or higher than those of previously reported LM-based sensors, as well as a broad detection range of 0–500% strain. This work provides a sustainable and scalable material-process-application framework for high-performance flexible sensors for wearable motion monitoring, while offering a high-value utilization pathway for natural rubber resources.

Herein, the excellent properties of one dimension (1D) and two dimension (2D) nanoparticles were fully combined to enhance the thermal stability and flame retardancy of waterborne epoxy intumescent fire retardant (IFR) coatings. Specifically, layered hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheet-linked acidified carbon nanotubes (CNTs) hybrids (BP@Si/CNTs) were prepared using polydopamine (PDA) and γ-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propytrimethoxysilane (KH560) as bridging agents. The results of the fire test, furnace test and thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the incorporation of 2 wt% of BP@Si/CNTs hybrids in the IFR coating significantly improved the thermal stability and flame retardancy of the char layer. The backside temperature of the BP@Si/CNTs 2.0% /EP sample decreased by 89.3 °C, the expansion rate increased by 11.53, and the residual char increased by 11.05 wt% compared to the control EP. The potential flame retardant mechanism was investigated by residual char analysis. The mechanism investigations indicated that the improved fire resistance of the composite coatings is attributed to the enhancement of the char layer by the physical barrier effect of the h-BN nanosheets and the "skeletal framework" effect of the CNTs during the combustion process.

An adsorptive membrane filtration based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with chitosan (CS) and carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH) is prepared by method of phase conversion, and the PVDF-CS@CNTs-COOH membranes can effectively separate anionic and cationic dye wastewater. Compared to pure PVDF membranes, PVDF-CS@CNTs-COOH increases pure water flux from 36.39 (L·m −2 ·h −1 ) to 85.25 (L·m −2 ·h −1 ), an increase of nearly 230%. The membrane exhibits excellent rejection performance in the filtration of six types of dye wastewater. The modified membranes also performed well in terms of rejection of mixed anionic and cationic dyes and also have a high performance in recycling, with a flux of over 94% for both anionic and cationic dyes. In addition, the adsorption curve fitting results showed that the adsorption process was more consistent with the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetic model and Langmuir mode.

Antimony sulfides exhibit a tremendous potential owing to the high theoretical specific capacity from multiple redox storage mechanisms for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, these bottlenecks, including low electrical conductivity , poor ionic diffusion kinetics, and severe volume expansion, still restrict the development of antimony sulfide as SIBs anodes. Meanwhile, in view of long-term interests and practical application, the cost-efficient preparation methods become an imminent challenge to the advancement of high-performance SIBs anodes. Here, a novel three-step strategy, composed of co-precipitation, heat reduction processes, and sulfation conversion, was utilized to construct a “reinforced concrete” architecture, in which Sb 2 S 3 nanoparticles embedded in N-doped carbon matrix (NC) modified by carbon nanotubes (CNTs), denoted as Sb 2 S 3 /CNTs/NC. As the “cement block”, the N-doped 3D carbon matrix can promote the electron migration and reduce the aggregation of active materials upon cycling. In terms of “rebars” (i.e., 1D CNTs) for ensuring the anode integrality during incessant sodiation/de-sodiation processes, they function as binders and stabilizers , which intimately cross-link with Sb 2 S 3 nanoparticles and carbon matrix, accommodate the volume change, and maintain the fast transfer of electron transfer inside the whole composite. Benefiting from these merits of the hierarchical structure (i.e., 3D NC and 1D CNTs), as an anode for SIBs, Sb 2 S 3 /CNTs/NC demonstrates an improved sodium storage capability with an initial specific capacity of 770.80 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 and a superior initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) of 79.90%. Moreover, even at a high current density of 1.0 A g −1 , a reversible capacity of 313.54 mAh g −1 can be delivered after 350 long cycles, indicating the stable cyclicity. The Sb 2 S 3 /CNTs/NC with designed construction and enhanced electrochemical performance could provide a new perspective on low-cost, time-saving, and exercisable synthesis approach for high-performance sulfide-based anodes.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) are regarded as promising candidates for next-generation electrochemical energy storage systems due to their low cost and high energy density . However, the insulative sulfur, the volume expansion and high soluble polysulfides are three roots impeding their practical applications, and consequently bring challenges of low sulfur utilization, poor cyclic stability and sluggish redox kinetics. Herein, a special core–shell ZnS-CNTs/S@Ni(OH) 2 (labeled as ZnS-CNTs/S@NH) cathode has been designed to overcome above obstacles and elevate the electrochemical performance . The ZnS-CNTs/S@NH cathode is synthesized via a facile step-by-step strategy, in which ZnS-decorated CNTs was used as a framework to load sulfur and followed with a ultrathin Ni(OH) 2 (NH) layer encapsulation. The ZnS-CNT core combines merits of CNT network and polar ZnS quantum dots (QDs), accommodating the volume change, offering efficient pathways for fast electron/ion transport, and anchoring polysulfides through polar interactions. The outer Ni(OH) 2 shell physically confines the active material and meanwhile provides plenty of catalytic sites for effective polysulfide chemisorption . Benefiting from these merits, the ZnS-CNTs/S@NH cathode exhibits excellent cell performances in comparison with ZnS-CNTs/S and CNTs/S. Its discharge capacity at different C-rates is optimal in the three cathodes, which decreases from 1037.0 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C to 646.1 mAh g −1 at 2.0 C. Its cyclic capacity also manifests the slowest reduction from 861.1 to 760.1 mAh g −1 after 150 cycles at 0.5 C, showing a high retention (88.3%) and a tiny average fading rate (0.078%). The strategy in this work provides a feasible approach to design and construct core–shell cathode materials for realizing practically usable Li–S batteries.

The CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 hybrids were synthesized via a modified co-precipitation method and aligned along the through-thickness of carbon fabrics-reinforced epoxy composites (CFRPCs) by applying a weak magnetic field. The effects of the length, orientation and concentration of CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 on the mechanical and tribological properties of CFRPCs were investigated. The results showed that the modified co-precipitation method decreased the size of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (approximately 10 nm in diameter), promoting the dispersion of CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 in epoxy resin. The alignment of CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 hybrids significantly increased the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and hardness of CFRPCs. The long CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 can more effectively improve the ILSS of CFRPCs compared to short CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 . Besides, the addition of aligned CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 hybrids significant improves the tribological properties of CFRPCs. Compared to long CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 -reinforced CFRPCs, the short CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 -reinforced CFRPCs show the best tribological properties. The properties anisotropy of CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 and high CNTs@Fe 3 O 4 concentration in near surface of CFRPCs are the main reason for the improvement in tribological properties of CFRPCs.

Silicon (Si) with high theoretical capacity has attracted much attention as anode materials of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the tendency of Si particles to easily expand leads to the rapid attenuation of capacity, which greatly limits their practical applications. In this work, the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) doped Si/CNTs carbon nanofibers (Si/CNTs/CNFs) composites has been fabricated and explored as electrode material for LIBs. N, P doped Si/CNTs/CNFs composites possess unique fiber network structure with suitable space, which can effective buffer volume expand during charge-discharge process. By evaluating lithium storage performances of N, P doped Si/CNTs/CNFs composites as Li-ion battery electrodes, excellent rate performance with a capacity of 529 mA h g −1 (at 5.0 A g −1 ) and remarkable cycling performance of 1142 m Ah g −1 after the 100 cycles (at 0.2 A g −1 ) are obtained. Such outstanding performances can be attributed to the unique fiber network structure and the doping of N and P, which provides a new avenue for the studies of high-performance Si based anode materials of LIBs.

In recent years, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which are emerging nanocatalysts, have received much attention in advanced oxidation processes. CNTs were introduced into H 2 O 2 /Fe(III) Fenton-like process to enhance the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) in this study. The results of the study suggests that CNTs could effectively promote electron transfer from H 2 O 2 to Fe(III) and directly reduce Fe(III) to Fe(II) to accelerate Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycles, in which carbonyl groups and structural defects of CNTs were identified as the major active sites via SEM, Raman, XRD, FTIR and XPS analyses. It was revealed that hydroxyl radical (·OH) majorly contributed to the degradation of BPA, and the generation efficiency of ·OH was significantly increased by 3.2 times with the addition of CNTs. Also, nine intermediate products were identified, and the possible degradation pathways of BPA were proposed through the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and HPLC-MS/MS analysis. The ecotoxicity evaluation of BPA demonstrates that the oxidative degradation of BPA in CNTs/H 2 O 2 /Fe(III) system could effectively reduce its environmental risk. The critical experimental parameters including the dosage of Fe(III), H 2 O 2 , CNTs, initial pH and various anions (Cl − , HCO 3 – , SO 4 2− ) were investigated, and the reusability experiments indicate that CNTs maintained high stability and reusability during the reaction.

The exploration of highly-efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst with well-defined structure to understand specific structure-performance relationship is crucial to meet the requirement of water-splitting. Herein, we firstly used atomically dispersed IrCl x to uniformly decorate ultrathin Co(OH) 2 nanosheets to dramatically improve electrocatalytic activity. The synthesized IrCl x -Co(OH) 2 nanosheets/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibits an overpotential of 230 mV to reach 10 mA/cm 2 , which was much enhanced compared to that of pristine Co(OH) 2 /CNTs (308 mV) and commercial benchmark IrO 2 (309 mV). X-ray absorption fine structure and density functional theory simulations demonstrate strong interfacial interaction between IrCl x and Co(OH) 2 nanosheets via the Cl-Ir-O and Ir-Cl-Co bond can efficiently boost its electronic conductivity. The accelerated charge transfer promotes the formation of more positively charged O atoms around cobalt centers, which is beneficial for the deprotonation on IrCl x -Co(OH) 2 and makes the catalyst facilitate OER.

Selective hydrogenation of quinoline and its derivatives is an important means to produce corresponding 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines for a wide spectrum of applications. A facile and efficient “laser irradiation in liquid” technique to liberate the inaccessible highly dispersed Co N x active sites confined inside N-doped carbon nanotubes is demonstrated. The liberated Co N x sites possess generic catalytic activities toward selective hydrogenation of quinoline and its hydroxyl, methyl, and halogen substituted derivatives into corresponding 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines with almost 100% conversion efficiency and selectivity. This laser irradiation treatment approach should be widely applicable to unlock the catalytic powers of inaccessible catalytic active sites confined by other materials.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is highly poisonous and can accumulate in the environment. In this work, we developed a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor to detect Cr(VI) content. Firstly, a bean-like AgBr 0.8 I 0.2 -Ag-CNTs composite was synthesized through light reduction and hydrothermal method. The physicochemical characterization was investigated and the results revealed that AgBr 0.8 I 0.2 -Ag-CNTs possessed a wide visible light absorption range and excellent photoelectrochemical activity. Subsequently, a “signal-off” PEC sensor based on AgBr 0.8 I 0.2 -Ag-CNTs as cathodic sensing platform and K 3 [Fe(CN) 6 ] as photoelectron acceptor was proposed. After photoelectrochemical reduction of Cr(VI) ions, Cr(VI) was reduced to cover AgBr 0.8 I 0.2 -Ag-CNTs in the form of Cr(OH) 3 , which severely blocked the photoelectron transfer from AgBr 0.8 I 0.2 -Ag-CNTs to K 3 [Fe(CN) 6 ] and resulted in a falling photocurrent. Compared with previous PEC sensors based on the direct reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr 3+ , the proposed sensor showed a wider linear range of 0.1 nM ∼ 5.0 µM and a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 50 pM.
