Addressing water pollution and energy shortage simultaneously remains a key environmental challenge, yet conventional water treatment rarely removes pollutants while recovering energy. Phthalate esters (PAEs), a class of toxic and persistent emerging contaminants, urgently require advanced oxidation technologies. Herein, an efficient photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) system was developed based on S-scheme F-BiOF/TiO 2 nanocones (NCs) photoanode for deep degradation of the representative PAEs, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), with simultaneous hydrogen (H 2 ) evolution. BiOF was first loaded onto TiO₂ NCs to form a compact BiOF/TiO₂ interface, and subsequent electrochemical F activation regulated the interfacial electronic structure and strengthened the internal electric field, thereby promoting S-scheme heterojunction directional charge separation. This design retained the strong oxidation ability of BiOF valence-band holes and the reduction ability of TiO₂ conduction-band electrons. Density functional theory (DFT) and spectroscopic analyses confirmed that F activation significantly strengthened the internal electric field and facilitated directional charge separation, thereby boosting PEC performance. Under simulated sunlight irradiation at 0.8 V, the system achieved 96.5% DBP removal and 967.7 μmol/cm 2 H 2 production within 90 min. Notably, the H 2 yield dropped to 559.3 μmol/cm 2 without DBP, demonstrating that anodic pollutant oxidation can promote cathodic H 2 evolution. Fukui-function revealed that the degradation of DBP initiated with preferential attack on its ester group, while HeLa cell assays confirmed decreasing intermediate toxicity. The system also showed robust performance in real wastewater, highlighting its potential for integrated recalcitrant pollutant removal and clean energy recovery.

Axial coordination of heteroatoms to the metal sites in M-N-C catalysts exerts a direct modulation of the electronic distribution by forming a bond with the metal center, thereby optimizing its intrinsic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the steric hindrance introduced by axially coordinated heteroatoms limits reactant accessibility, potentially suppressing the overall catalytic activity. This study provides an HF wet etching strategy to synthesize a hollow porous ZIF-derived nitrogen-doped carbon-supported F-axially coordinated single-atom iron catalyst (F-Fe 1 @HNC), which simultaneously achieves F-axial coordination and high reactant accessibility. Consequently, the F-Fe 1 @HNC catalyst demonstrates outstanding ORR performance in both alkaline (0.919 V) and acidic (0.797 V) electrolytes. When employed as a cathode material in a zinc-air battery, F-Fe 1 @HNC achieves an open-circuit potential of 1.477 V and a power density of 256 mW cm −2 , significantly outperforming commercial Pt/C catalysts. Density functional theory confirmed that F-coordination altered the electronic distribution at Fe-N-C sites, optimizing the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates. This work highlights the importance of electron-withdrawing groups in creating the electron asymmetry at Fe-N-C sites, providing profound insights into designing highly efficient ORR catalysts. The F-axis coordinated Fe-N-C catalyst breaks the limitation imposed by spatial steric hindrance and significantly improves the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance. Exploring highly active, cost-effective, and long-life non-precious metal-based catalysts for the oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) is extremely important for renewable energy conversion devices. Herein, a facile approach is proposed to fabricate a FeNi nanoparticles decorated 3D N, S, F tri-doped porous carbon nanoflower/nanotubes electrocatalyst (FeNi@NSFC) by a self-assembly pyrolysis process. The ammonium sulfate not only acts as a N and S source but also facilitates the self-assembly of 2D ZnFeNi-ZIF nanosheets into 3D nanoflowers. Meanwhile, the potassium fluoride serves as a F source and regulates the crystal growth as well as pore structure. The 3D nanoflower/nanotube structure benefits the exposure of reactive species and mass/charge transport. The optimized FeNi@NSFC catalyst achieved outstanding bifunctional catalytic performance with an overpotential gap (0.655 V), which was lower than the Pt/C + RuO 2 catalyst (0.670 V). Theoretical findings also revealed that the introduction of N, S and F atoms could tailor the electronic structure of FeNi nanoparticles, thereby enhancing the catalytic activity for ORR. Therefore, the FeNi@NSFC-assembled Zinc-air batteries (ZABs) delivered a peak power density (156.2 mW cm −2 ), and long-term cycle durability (550 h), surpassing Pt/C + RuO 2 -assembled ZABs. This work demonstrates a promising avenue for developing MOF-derived catalysts with well-defined morphology and multi-atom doping.

Biomass-derived fluorine and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (F, N-CDs) were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using Rhododendron simsii flowers as the precursor. The prepared F, N-CDs exhibited favorable optical properties, good water solubility, and a pronounced enhancement effect on the chemiluminescence (CL) of the Luminol-K 2 S 2 O 8 -NaOH system. The optical characteristics were systematically investigated by UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and fluorescence lifetime analysis. The possible CL enhancement mechanism was further investigated through reactive oxygen species scavenging experiments and singlet oxygen probe experiments. On this basis, an enhanced flow-injection chemiluminescence (FI-CL) method was developed for the determination of levetiracetam (LEV). Under the optimized conditions, the relative CL intensity exhibited a satisfactory linear relationship with LEV concentration over the range of 0.10–10.00 mM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.02 × 10 −3 mM and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 6.71 × 10 −3 mM. The proposed method was successfully applied to the commercial LEV pharmaceutical formulations, giving recoveries of 94.8–103.1% and relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 4.68%. These results demonstrate the potential of biomass-derived carbon dots for spectroscopic and characterization and chemiluminescence-based analytical applications.

As a promising high-voltage cathode material candidate for next-generation high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), spinel-type LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) has attracted significant attention due to its high operating voltage (~4.7 V). However, its intrinsic structural instability and severe surfacial side reactions lead to poor cycling stability and rate capability. This study presents an innovative low-temperature calcination strategy to synthesize Ti/F co-doped LNMO (LNMO-TiF3-x) cathode materials, utilizing TiF3 as a dual-functional dopant. Both experimental and theoretical investigations demonstrate that the introduced Ti3+/Ti4+ redox couple activates additional Mn-based capacity within the 4.2 V region, while contributing a minor yet measurable reversible capacity. Simultaneously, Ti/F co-doping strengthens the lattice through covalent bonding, effectively suppressing transition metal dissolution and synergistically enhancing cycling stability. Furthermore, Ti4+ doping expands the (111) lattice spacing, which facilitates Li+ diffusion kinetics and significantly enhances rate capabilities. The optimized LNMO-TiF3-4 exhibits outstanding performance, delivering 131.9 mAh g-1 at 10 C and maintaining 72.4% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 5 C. This work not only demonstrates the high electrochemical performance of LNMO-TiF3-x but also offers new insights into bulk-interface synergistic engineering for advanced high-voltage cathode materials.

Phen strongly coordinates dissociative Fe ions to form active Fe-N X sites. • The strong coupling of Fe-F strengthens the poisoning resistance of the catalyst. • N,F co-doped network enhances ORR by lowering reaction energy barrier at Fe-N X sites. • Porous chain-bead framework prevents agglomeration, providing abundant sites and fast charge transfer. • AEMFCs with FeN X @Fe-F-CNF cathodes achieve a peak power density of 0.7 W cm −2 . Transition-metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) catalysts have garnered significant recognition as highly active non-precious metal catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs), attributable to their low-cost, high atom-utilization and remarkable ORR performance. However, the primary drawback of conventional M-N-C catalysts lies in the suboptimal electronic structure of their metal centers (M-N 4 ), which results in excessively strong adsorption energy toward oxygen intermediates, thereby limiting their intrinsic activity and stability. Herein, the FeF 2 /Fe 3 N nanocrystalline decorated N, F co-doped chain-bead Fe-N-C fiber network (FeN X @Fe-F-CNF) has been fabricated by electrospinning strategy through utilizing 1,10-Phenanthroline monohydrochloride monohydrate (Phen) and NH 4 F as nitrogen/fluoride sources respectively. The six-membered heterocyclic in Phen allows for strong coordination with dissociative Fe ions, thus, promoting the formation of Fe-N X sites. Furthermore, co-doped N, F is able to tune the electronic structure of Fe active sites, whereas flexible chain-bead nanofibers guarantee considerable structural adaptation, thereby contributing to the enhancement of their catalytic activity and stability. The obtained FeN X @Fe-F-CNF exhibits enhanced ORR catalytic activity (with an E 1/2 of 0.863 V) and superior durability (with a current retention of 90.7 % after maintaining the ORR typical potential range for 100,000 seconds and a E 1/2 negative shift of 7 mV after 5000 continuous potential cycles). Furthermore, the assembled AEMFCs based on FeN X @Fe-F-CNF catalysts demonstrate excellent performance, with a peak power density of 0.7 W cm −2 , indicating its potential feasibility for commercial applications. Herein, nitrogen, phosphorus, and fluorine codoped MXene (N,P,F-MXene) was synthesized via thermal treatment using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM][PF6]) as the doping precursor. Comprehensive characterization confirmed the effective incorporation of nitrogen, phosphorus, and fluorine into the MXene lattice. Tribological testing revealed that N,P,F-MXene demonstrated excellent performance as an additive in lubrication, showing significantly reduced friction and wear. Specifically, it achieved an average COF of 0.109 and reduced wear volume by 62.5% versus the base oil. Furthermore, the N,P,F-MXene-based lubricant exhibited good adaptability under extreme operating conditions, sustaining stable tribological behavior over a broad load, frequency, and temperature range. Notably, its load capacity reached 500 N. Mechanistic analysis indicates that its superior performance originates from the synergistic effects of the physical filling and adsorption of N,P,F-MXene, coupled with the formation of a tribo-chemical film with low shear strength enriched with nitrogen/phosphorus/fluorine compounds and metal oxides in the friction process. This study provides an effective strategy for heteroatom doping of MXene and offers a promising pathway toward high-performance oil-based lubricant additives.

P2-type layered transition metal oxides with high theoretical specific capacity and operating voltage are considered as one of the highly promising cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, but the poor cycling stability attributed to the P2-O2 phase transition and Na + /vacancy ordering limits their practical applications. In this paper, a hydrothermal method is used to investigate the improvement of the electrochemical properties of Na 0.75 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 by Zn/F synergistic doping. The synergistic modification of Zn/F not only adjusts the valence distribution of Mn and improves the specific capacity, but also suppresses the phase transition under high voltage and the dissolution of transition metal ions. In particular, Na 0.75 Ni 0.23 Mn 0.67 Zn 0.1 O 1.95 F 0.05 (ZF-5) has excellent cycling performance (82.1% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 1C), compared to just 11.6% for the Na 0.75 Ni 0.33 Mn 0.67 O 2 (ZF-0). Above that, the rate performance is also significantly improved, with the specific capacity reaching 94.7 mAh g −1 even at a high current density of 5 C. Therefore, the Zn/F double doping modification strategy provides a simple and effective method for designing high-performance layered oxide cathode materials.

Carbon dots (CDs) have attracted considerable interest as fluorescent nanomaterials; however, their long-afterglow emission properties remain underexplored. In this study, we synthesized dual-mode afterglow CDs exhibiting room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) via fluorine-sodium (F, Na) co-doping, achieving an extended afterglow lifetime of 574 ms. Under 365 nm UV excitation, the afterglow emission persists for 14 s (naked-eye observation) and 40 s (instrumentally quantified), demonstrating exceptional temporal resolution. Na doping enhances afterglow intensity by 11.3 %, while fluorine doping reduces the singlet–triplet energy gap (ΔE ST ) to 0.036 eV, facilitating efficient Reverse Intersystem Crossing and enabling TADF behavior. These synergistic effects position the developed CDs as promising candidates for anti-counterfeiting systems, multilevel data encryption, and high-security optical tagging.

Cyanate ester resin (CER) is an excellent thermosetting polymer. However, its brittleness and poor mechanical properties limit its application. The innovation of this work lies in the smart collaborative toughening effects of Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ @uCNTs working together with phenolphthalein polyether sulfone (marked as PES-C) on dicyanate ester of bisphenol F. Tb 3+ -complex enhances Eu 3+ @uCNT-effects, and the cooperation of PES-C together with Eu 3+ -Tb 3+ @uCNTs (marked as ET-uC) functions strongly to increase flexural, tensile, and impact strengths by 209%, 120%, and 286%, respectively. When additions of ET-uC ratio at 0.6 wt% and PES-C ratio at 15% to CER. At the same time, we can get more multiple enhancing effects can be observed as below. The introduction of ET-uC reduces the curing temperature of the composite material from 342°C to 271°C. At the same time, the mass loss rate decreased from 87% to 55%. The intensity of luminescent CER/ET-uC/PES-C is much stronger compared to CER/ET-C/PES-C. If the curing temperature is 250°C, the luminescence lifetimes of CER/ET-C/PES-C and CER/ET-uC/PES-C become 411.23 and 731.91 μs, respectively. These strong data confirm that our strategy of ET-uC collaborating with the linear thermal stable polymer of PES-C functions has generated the breakthrough to improve the comprehensive properties of CER. Graphene oxide (GO) is an ideal reinforcement for improving mechanical properties of epoxy (EP) and reducing its coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). However, the poor interfacial interaction between GO and polymer matrix seriously hinders the reinforcing effect of GO. To improve their interface, we first functionalized GO with flexible polyetheramine (PEA) and f-SiO 2 rigid nanoparticles, obtaining PEA-GO and SiO 2 -PEA-GO hybrids, respectively. Then the PEA-GO and SiO 2 -PEA-GO were incorporated into EP to obtain nanocomposites with flexible interphases and rigid-flexible interphases, respectively. The interfaces were tuned by two PEA molecules (D230 and D2000) with different chain lengths. The effects of the different interface structures on the mechanical properties and CTE of the GO/EP nanocomposites with a 0.25 wt% filler loading were investigated. It was found that the effects of SiO 2 -PEA-GO on strengthening and toughening EP matrix and on reducing its CTE were much better than those of PEA-GO, because the rigid-flexible interfaces provided higher bonding strength and better energy dissipation mechanisms than the flexible interfaces. Moreover, the D230-GO/EP nanocomposite containing shorter PEA (D230) molecules exhibited higher strength but lower toughness and CTE than the D2000-GO/EP nanocomposite. However, the SiO 2 -D2000-GO/EP nanocomposite showed greater strength, toughness and CTE than the SiO 2 -D230-GO/EP nanocomposite. This indicated that the longer PEA molecules in rigid-flexible interphases produced higher improvement in strength and toughness but smaller decreases in CTE. This work provides a promising strategy of constructing an adjustable flexible-rigid interfacial structure and opens an avenue for developing GO/EP nanocomposites with high mechanical properties and low CTE.

Large–size spherical sorbents with particle size of 10–50 μm are widely applied in separation fields, however it is still a great challenge to synthesize such large–size spherical covalent organic framework (COF). In this work, a type of large–size porous 3D COF was size–controablly synthesized via a two–step strategy, in which a large–size porous 3D spherical polymer was prepared first through a Pickering emulsion polymerization using nano silica as the stabilizer, and subsequently it was converted into porous spherical 3D COF by a solvothermal method . The as–prepared porous spherical COF (COF–320 as a model) showed size–controllable uniform spherical morphology within 15–45 μm, large specific surface area, fine crystalline structure, and good chemical stability. When used as the sorbent for dispersive solid–phase extraction (d–SPE) of bisphenol F (BPF), the porous spherical COF–320 (15 μm) displayed high adsorption capacity ( Q max = 335.6 mg/g), high enrichment factor (80 folds), and good reusability (at least five cycles). By coupling the d–SPE method to HPLC, a new analytical approach was developed and successfully applied to the determination of trace BPF in two water samples, an orange juice and a standard sample with recoveries of 96.0–102.2 % (RSD = 1.1–1.5 %), 95.7–97.4 % (RSD = 1.4–4.4 %) and 98.7 % (RSD = 2.3 %), respectively. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) and limit of quantification (S/N = 10) were 0.1 and 0.3 ng/mL, respectively. The new synthesis strategy opens a viable way to prepare large–size porous spherical COFs, and the developed analytical method can be potentially applied to sensitively detect the trace BPF in water samples and beverages.
