A sensor based on UiO-66@MWCNTs, AuNPs, and ABSA was constructed for methyl parathion detection. • UiO-66@MWCNTs provides abundant Zr OH sites for MP adsorption and preconcentration. • The sensor exhibits a wide linear range (0.1–15 μg·mL −1 ). • Satisfactory recoveries (97.43%–101.5%) were obtained in traditional Chinese herbs. A non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor for methyl parathion (MP) was developed based on UiO-66@MWCNTs/AuNPs/ABSA composites. These composites were synthesized via a solvothermal route, followed by AuNPs electrodeposition and ABSA electropolymerization. The UiO-66@MWCNTs matrix offers a large surface area and abundant binding sites for organophosphorus groups, enhancing MP adsorption and preconcentration. AuNPs effectively boost conductivity and catalytic activity, while the electropolymerized ABSA further facilitates electron transfer due to its excellent electrocatalytic properties. Thus, the composite displays remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward MP. Using the MP reduction peak current, the sensor achieves a linear range of 0.1–15 μg·mL −1 and a detection limit of 0.0152 μg·mL −1 (S/N = 3). It also exhibits good selectivity, satisfactory reproducibility (RSD 1.93%), excellent repeatability (RSD 1.50%), long-term stability (99.96% retention after 15 days), and successful application in traditional Chinese herbs such as Coptis chinensis French. and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium .

Background Chirality plays a critical role in drug efficacy and environmental safety. The antibacterial activity of ofloxacin resides almost exclusively in its S-enantiomer (levofloxacin, LEV), while the R-enantiomer contributes little to therapeutic effects but may pose unnecessary risks. Rapid and reliable methods for enantioselective determination of ofloxacin enantiomers are therefore essential for pharmaceutical quality control, food safety monitoring, and environmental analysis. However, existing electrochemical sensors often suffer from limited enantioselectivity and insufficient sensitivity. To address this challenge, a novel enantioselective electrochemical platform is developed. Results A β-cyclodextrin/cerium-doped copper metal-organic framework/carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotube composite (β-CD/Ce-doped Cu-MOF/MWCNTs-COOH) was fabricated on a glassy carbon electrode. The sensor achieves discrimination of ofloxacin enantiomers with an I L /I D ratio of 3.39. DFT calculations at pH 4.0 reveal that β-CD binds LEV with higher adsorption energy (−63.8 kJ/mol) than DEX (−58.3 kJ/mol), confirming the superior response for LEV originates from stereospecific inclusion. Quantitative analysis of LEV shows two linear ranges (0.03–1 μM and 1–10 μM) with a low detection limit of 0.01 μM. The sensor also enables accurate determination of LEV percentage in enantiomer mixtures across 0–100%. Excellent selectivity against common interferents, good reproducibility (RSD = 0.98%), repeatability (RSD = 1.26%), and long-term stability (95.2% retention after 21 days) are demonstrated. Practical applicability is validated by detecting LEV in commercial eye drops, honey, and tap water with satisfactory recoveries (96.0–108.0%). Significance and novelty This work presents the first application of Ce-doped Cu-MOF/β-CD/MWCNTs-COOH composites for the enantioselective electrochemical sensing of ofloxacin, a chiral fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The synergistic combination of high conductivity, abundant catalytic sites, and stereospecific host-guest recognition provides a generalizable strategy for high-performance enantioselective sensing, with promising applications in pharmaceutical, food, and environmental analysis.

A sensitive ratiometric electrochemical strategy for MMC detection is developed. • Polythionine serves as an internal reference for improved response stability. • Ce-Ni-MOF/MWCNTs enhance interfacial electron transfer. • Molecular imprinting enables selective MMC recognition. • MMC detection is validated by UPLC-QTOF-MS in water samples. Mitomycin C (MMC) is a widely used antitumor antibiotic, and its rapid and selective detection is crucial for monitoring its occurrence in environmental water samples. In this work, a ratiometric electrochemical sensor was constructed by sequential modification of a bimetallic Ce-Ni-metal-organic framework (Ce-Ni-MOF)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) composite, polythionine (pThi) and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on a glassy carbon electrode. The Ce-Ni-MOF/MWCNTs composite facilitated electron transfer, contributing to the enhanced sensitivity of the sensing platform. The pThi was electropolymerized onto the modified electrode surface to provide an internal reference signal, while the ratiometric response was achieved through two electrochemical channels, with the [Fe(CN)₆] 3−/4 − redox probe serving as the response signal and the pThi signal as the reference, enabling effective correction of measurement variations. Under optimized conditions, the sensor exhibited a linear response to MMC over the concentration range of 0.1–100 nM, with a low detection limit of 0.046 nM and a limit of quantification of 0.075 nM. Owing to the specific molecular recognition of the MIP layer and the internal reference function of pThi, the proposed sensor demonstrated satisfactory selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility and stability. Furthermore, the sensor was successfully applied to the determination of MMC in water samples, achieving recoveries of 87–112%. The analytical performance of the proposed sensor was further validated by comparison with the results obtained using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS). This work presents a reliable and sensitive ratiometric electrochemical sensing strategy and demonstrates its feasibility through a proof-of-concept study for MMC detection in environmental water samples. Wearable hydrogel-based strain sensors that can operate reliably in both air and water are difficult to develop because conventional hydrogels tend to swell, weaken, and lose signal stability in aqueous environments. In this work, a structurally stable, anti-swelling, conductive hydrogel was designed by combining a hydrophobically associated polymer network with nanoscale conductive reinforcement. The material was synthesized from acrylamide (AAm) and stearyl methacrylate (SMA) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide to generate reversible hydrophobic junctions. At the same time, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (COO-MWCNTs) were incorporated to strengthen the network and establish efficient electrical pathways. The hydrogel is soft due to its wide linear viscoelastic region (0.01–68% strain). This cooperative structural design produced a flexible and mechanically resilient hydrogel (0.57 MPa stress, 1254% strain, and toughness of 271.9 kJ m−3) with a conductivity of 82.6 S m−1, and a rapid response/recovery time (110/100 ms in air and 210/250 ms in water). The sensor displayed stable strain sensitivity, with gauge factors of about 17.52 in air and 9.54 in water, with a swelling ratio of only 20%, indicating good anti-swelling behavior and stable sensing performance under both dry and aqueous conditions. It successfully tracked a wide range of large and small human motions in both environments, demonstrating reliable performance under dynamic mechanical conditions. In addition, the device translated mechanical stimuli generated during writing, speech-related vibrations, and Morse-code tapping into distinct electrical signals, indicating its capability for multimodal communication sensing. These results demonstrate an effective materials design approach for producing environmentally stable hydrogel sensors suitable for wearable electronics, underwater monitoring, and interactive human–machine systems.

A major challenge in polymer composite research is accurately predicting thermal degradation behavior under different heating conditions while effectively distinguishing primary polymer decomposition from filler-related mass loss. This study introduces a novel approach by employing a logistic derivative function fitting method, which allows for the clear separation of magnesium hydroxide (MH) dehydration from the main degradation of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Understanding the thermal stability of LLDPE composites is crucial for enhancing fire safety and long-term durability in industrial applications. This study investigates the effect of MH and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the thermal degradation of LLDPE under a nitrogen atmosphere, using non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Pure LLDPE (PE), LLDPE/MH (mPE), and LLDPE/MH/MWCNTs (mcPE) composites were tested at four heating rates (5, 10, 15, and 20 K min –1 ). The degradation kinetics were analyzed using ASTM E698 and Ozawa–Flynn–Wall classical methods, alongside a logistic-based model that enhances the accuracy of degradation predictions. The results revealed that while the main degradation process of LLDPE remains largely unchanged, secondary degradation reactions were effectively suppressed by the fillers. Additionally, the logistic model allowed for accurate estimation of degradation behavior at untested heating rates. This methodology provides a powerful tool for optimizing polymer composite formulations, particularly in cable insulation and fire-retardant coatings, where enhanced thermal stability is essential for safety and material longevity.

Benefitting from high storage density, phase change material (PCM) has been widely utilized in cold chain logistics. However, the phase change process of composites is normally non-isothermal, which will lead to phase change hysteresis (PCH). The exploration of the mechanism and influence factors of PCH remains a huge challenge. In this paper, a nanocomposite PCM (NCPCM) based on paraffin (PA) was prepared to address this issue via the two-step method. Here, the applications of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) were contributed to the enhancement of thermal conductivity and suspension stability. Subsequently, after various characterization techniques, the results showed that thermal conductivity of the NCPCM with 1.0 wt% MWCNTs and a 2:1 mass ratio of MWCNTs and SDBS increased by 1.86 times. Moreover, the NCPCM exhibited high thermal charging-discharging efficiency, thermal stability, and cyclic stability. More importantly, the PCH has been studied via the dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method. The effects of temperature range, temperature changing rate, and sample mass on the hysteresis degree were investigated. Furthermore, the PCH was interpreted in terms of energy storage, temperature delay, internal thermal resistance , crystallinity , and interfacial free energy . It was proved that the NCPCM possesses a smaller hysteresis degree when the temperature range was −40–50 °C, temperature changing rate was 10 K min −1 , and sample mass was within 10 mg.

A molecularly imprinted sensor for highly sensitive and selective determination of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) was fabricated by combining multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) with surface molecularly imprinted polymer (SMIPs). The MWCNTs and AuNPs were designed to modify the electrode surface to accelerate the electron transfer rate and enhance the chemical stability. SMIPs were synthesized using SiO 2 microspheres as carriers. By loading SMIPs capable of identifying DBP on the surface of modified electrodes of MWCNTs and AuNPs, an electrochemical sensor for detecting DBP was successfully constructed. After optimizing the experimental conditions, the modified electrode SiO 2 -COOH@MIP/AuNPs/MWCNTs/GCE can recognize DBP in the range of 10 −7 g L −1 to 10 −2 g L −1 , and the detection limit achieved to 5.09 × 10 −9 g L −1 (S/N = 3). The results demonstrate that the proposed MIP electrochemical sensor may be a promising candidate electrochemical strategy for detecting DBP in complex samples.

A porous 3D cross-linked conductive network pierced by multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was successfully designed from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). Zn@NPC@MWCNTs composites were tailored by the facile regulating the mass ratios and thermal annealing treatment. Due to the combination of less eddy current loss and dielectric loss together with multiple reflection attenuation caused by a unique structure. With a 10 wt% filler loading, the Zn@NPC@MWCNTs composites carbonized at 800 °C show two high reflection loss ( RL ) values with different thicknesses. An RL value is −53.18 dB with 4.09 mm thickness in the C-Band (4–8 GHz), and a minimum RL can reach −74.83 dB (10.8 GHz) with a matching thickness of 2.749 mm. The effective absorption bandwidth is 4 GHz (from 8 to 12 GHz, RL ≤ −10 dB), which just covers the full X-band. Low cost and easy preparation can also provide advantages to develop MOF-based materials as effective EMW absorbents.

The removal of organic pollutants was examined by new zeolitic imidazolate framework-8/carboxyl-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (ZIF-8/MWCNTs-COOH) nanoadsorbents, which were prepared via controlling the reaction sequence of MWCNTs-COOH with the precursors of ZIF-8. Structural morphology and chemical composition characterizations confirmed the successful preparation of ZIF-8/MWCNTs-COOH nanoadsorbents. The obtained samples manifested a preferable adsorption capacity for Congo red with the maximum adsorption capacity of 1185.58 mg g −1 with an adsorption removal rate of 97.93% at equilibrium adsorption. Further analyses indicated that the adsorption process conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The thermodynamic analyses were depicted as endothermic, entropy-increasing, and spontaneous. The effects of pH value, interfering ions, and dosage on the adsorption properties were systematically explored. The nanoadsorbent can be expediently reused for eight cycles without a prominent reduction in adsorption activity. The improved performance and high reusability can be ascribed to the increasing specific surface, the presence of electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and π–π interaction between ZIF-8/MWCNTs-COOH and organic molecules. In addition, the prepared composites also showed a better adsorption performance for tetracycline with the equilibrium adsorption capacity of 471.22 mg g −1 compared to pure ZIF-8 and MWCNTs-COOH.

A label-free electrochemical immunosensor has advantages of real-time and rapid detection, but it is weak in detection of small molecular toxins such as aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ). The greatest obstacle to achieving this is that small molecules bound to a common immunosensing interface cannot interfere with electron transfer effectively and the detection signal is so weak. Therefore, a sensitive electrochemical immunosensing interface for small molecules is urgently needed. Here, we employed functionalized black phosphorene (BP) as electrode modification materials and anti-AFB 1 nanobody (Nb) as a biorecognition element to construct a very sensitive immunosensing interface towards small molecular AFB 1 . The BP functionalized by carboxylic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) via P–C bonding behaved with a satisfactory stability and good catalytic performance for the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide probe, while the small-sized Nb showed good compatibility with the functionalized BP and also had less influence on electron transfer than monoclonal antibody (mAb). Expectedly, the as-prepared immunosensing interface was very sensitive to AFB 1 detection by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in a redox probe system. Under optimized conditions, a linear range from 1.0 pM to 5.0 nM and an ultralow detection limit of 0.27 pM were obtained. Additionally, the fabricated immunosensor exhibited satisfactory stability, specificity, and reproducibility. The strategy proposed here provides a more reliable reference for label-free sensing of small molecules in food samples. Graphical abstract

The preparation of raw materials is an important prerequisite for studying the function of natural active ingredients. Here, the preparation of MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs based on surface molecular imprinting technology for the separation of bilobalide (BB) from real samples was proposed. The successful preparation of MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs was demonstrated using several techniques. Adsorption equilibrium was achieved when the time was 4 h, and the rate of adsorption calculated from the dynamic adsorption results was 14.2 μg mL –1 h –1 . The maximum adsorption amount for MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs of BB was calculated to be 59.2 mg g –1 , which was more than three times that for MWCNTs/ZIF-67@NIPs (23.1 mg g –1 ), and the Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model were more suitable for the explanation of isothermal and kinetic adsorption behaviors, respectively. The results of selective adsorption indicated that MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs show excellent selectivity and specificity for BB compared to structurally similar compounds such as ginkgolides A, B and C, with an excellent imprinting factor (2.83). The results of reuse studies indicated that MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs exhibited great reproducibility with a recovery rate of 70.8% after repeated use for five times. Finally, the developed MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs were used as a solid-phase extraction sorbent to directly separate BB from treated gingko leaf extract and crude extract of BB, and the results suggested that the purity of BB in the two samples was increased by about 30%, and the recoveries reached 68.34% and 71.54%, respectively. Meanwhile, the separation effect of MWCNTs/ZIF-67@MIPs on BB was better than that of BBMIP prepared by bulk polymerization. © 2021 Society of Industrial Chemistry.

Herein, a series of electrically conductive polyurethane composites with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PU/MWCNTs) were in-situ polymerized according to tailoring the segmented PU molecules. The ultralow percolation threshold of MWCNTs (0.057 wt%) in the composites was achieved and the electrically conductive properties were markedly enhanced. The conductivity in PU@MWCNTs1-0.5 % and PU@MWCNTs2-0.5 % was lower than 1.0 × 10 −1 ° S m -1 . While PU@MWCNTs3-0.5 % had the conductivity of over 1.0 × 10 -6 S m -1 , almost 4 orders of significance, which was attributed to the increasing of hard segments on the PU molecule. Furthermore, the high piezoresistive properties of the composites were also observed. Therefore, this work had the important sense in decreasing the low percolation thresholds of conductive polymer composites.
