The efficient removal of recalcitrant organics in high-salinity systems, specifically brine, poses a significant challenge for electrochemically advanced oxidation processes in terms of both activity and stability. Herein, a composite electrode comprising of CNT/Nafion functionalized Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/β-PbO 2 -CNT/Nafion was developed for efficient and stable removal of octadecylamine (ODA) and 4-dodecylmorpholine (DMP) in a real high-salinity environment. The degradation efficiencies of ODA and DMP on the composite electrode can reach 100 % within 60 min, respectively. The total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency of ODA and DMP was significantly improved to 78 % and 66 % with remarkably low energy consumption (0.414 and 1.402 kWh/g TOC), respectively. The electrochemical characterizations demonstrate that the composite electrode exhibits improved electrochemical activity (oxygen evolution potentials = 1.791 V) and electrode surface area (ECSA = 20 cm 2 ), while maintaining reduced charge transfer resistance ( R ct = 18.21 Ω/cm 2 ) and enhanced corrosion-resistant capacity (corrosion potential = 1.115 V). Based on recycling and accelerated lifespan testing, the composite electrode demonstrates exceptional stability and recyclability. Additionally revealed was the linked stability mechanism. The electrocatalytic degradation of ODA and DMP begins with the removal of amino and morpholine rings, and then the decomposition of the carbon chains. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and theoretical calculations were used to identify intermediate products generated during the degradation of ODA and DMP, and possible degradation pathways were provided in high-salinity systems, respectively. This work offered a fresh perspective on electrocatalytic oxidation for a real high-salinity system that is more efficient and stable.

A novel and efficient Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -GO-Ce electrode was successfully fabricated based on the co-deposition of Ce ions and graphene oxide (GO) into β-PbO 2 crystals and used as an anode for electrocatalytic oxidation of phenol . The electrodeposition mechanism, parameter optimization, mechanism analysis, and potential degradation pathways were discussed in depth. The co-doping of GO and Ce resulted in the high directional specificity of β(301), orderly and dense grain arrangement of PbO 2 crystals. At the same time, the oxygen evolution potential, •OH generation capacity and lifetime were also improved. The effects of experimental parameters on phenol removal efficiency were evaluated, including the applied current density, electrode gap, supporting electrolyte, initial NaCl concentration, initial pH, and initial phenol concentration. Under the optimal conditions, the removal efficiency of phenol can reach 375.6 g m -2 h -1 for 20 min electrolysis, which is about 1.2 times that of the pure PbO 2 electrode. The active oxygen species (•OH, ClO - and HClO) were important attributes to the degradation of phenol. Additionally, a potential degradation pathway for phenol was proposed. After 10 successive recycles, there was no significant difference of the electro-generated •OH, cell voltage and phenol removal rate, which confirms the stability and admirable reusability of Ti/SnO 2 -Sb/PbO 2 -GO-Ce electrode.

The n-type Mg3(Sb,Bi)2-based thermoelectric materials are promising candidates for medium-temperature power generation due to their low cost, nontoxicity, and high performance. However, their large-scale application in thermoelectric devices is significantly hindered by poor long-term stability, resulting from electrode interface degradation. Effective contact interfaces in thermoelectric devices require high bonding strength, low interfacial resistivity, and exceptional stability. Therefore, the development of efficient and reliable thermoelectric interface materials is crucial for the practical application of these devices. Conventional approaches to forming interfacial barrier layers mainly rely on thermodynamic equilibrium, which often overlook the critical roles of interfacial reactions and diffusion kinetics. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were employed to uncover the underlying mechanisms responsible for the high stability of the Mg2Ni barrier layer and its interface with thermoelectric materials. The Mg2Ni/Mg3.21Sb1.5Bi0.5Y0.04 thermoelectric device exhibited excellent performance, with a low contact resistance of 11 μΩ·cm2, a high output power density of 1.2 W·cm–2, and an energy conversion efficiency of 5% at a temperature difference of ΔT = 373 K. This strategy is applicable to other thermoelectric materials, offering valuable insights for designing barrier layers in diverse thermoelectric systems.

Electrochemical oxidation (EO) has emerged as a promising technology for eliminating recalcitrant organic pollutants from wastewater, yet its industrial implementation is constrained by the intrinsic limitations of conventional anodes, including sluggish charge transfer kinetics, rapid passivation, and excessive energy consumption. The simultaneous resolution of these drawbacks at low cost remains challenging. Herein, we engineered high-efficiency and stable CoNi-Sb-SnO 2 /enhanced TiO 2 nanotube arrays (ETNA) anode through a novel dual-strategy cobalt doping. Cobalt-triggered electron shuttling and ETNA interlayer optimization synergistically enhances the electrode’s electrocatalytic activity, conductivity, and stability. Experimental results reveal that Co dopants create electron-deficient centers to enrich charge density on adjacent Sn/Sb sites, synergizing with Ni-mediated O 3 production to enable ultrafast hydroxyl radical (·OH) yield (93.9 % tetracycline removal in 30 min) across a broad pH range. Crucially, the cobalt-bridged ETNA interlayer, with enriched oxygen vacancy and reconstructed anode surface, significantly reduces charge transfer resistance by 62.2 % and suppresses substrate corrosion, extending the anode lifespan to 15.7-fold while saving 54.8 % energy consumption. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further corroborate that Co doping declines the d-band center, weakening oxygen intermediate adsorption and facilitating ·OH desorption. This work establishes a paradigm for achieving comprehensive electrode performance enhancement through targeted electronic structure engineering, enabling the development of cost-effective and durable anodes with direct applicability to low-concentration organic wastewater treatment.

For Bi x Sb 2− x Te 3 (BST) in thermoelectric field, the element ratio is easily influenced by the chemical environment, deviating from the stoichiometric ratio and giving rise to various intrinsic defects. In P-type polycrystalline BST, Sb Te and Bi Te are the primary forms of defects. Defect engineering is a crucial strategy for optimizing the electrical transport performance of Bi 2 Te 3 -based materials, but achieving synchronous improvement of thermal performance is challenging. In this study, mesoporous SiO 2 is utilized to successfully mitigate the adverse impacts of vacancy defects, resulting in an enhancement of the electrical transport performance and a pronounced reduction in thermal conductivity. Crystal and the microstructure of the continuous modulation contribute to the effective phonon–electronic decoupling. Ultimately, the peak zT of Bi 0.4 Sb 1.6 Te 3 /0.8 wt% SiO 2 (with a pore size of 4 nm) nanocomposites reaches as high as 1.5 at 348 K, and a thermoelectric conversion efficiency of 6.6% is achieved at Δ T = 222.7 K. These results present exciting possibilities for the realization of defect regulation in porous materials and hold reference significance for other material systems.

Antimony (Sb)-resistant bacteria have potential applications in the remediation of Sb-contaminated sites. However, the effect of Sb(III) exposure on whole-cell metabolic change has not been studied. Herein, we combined untargeted metabolomics with a previous proteomics dataset and confirmatory gene transcription analysis to identify metabolic responses to Sb(III) exposure in Agrobacterium tumefaciens GW4. Dynamic changes in metabolism between control and Sb(III)-exposed groups were clearly shown. KEGG pathway analysis suggested that with Sb(III) exposure: (1) the branching pathway of gluconeogenesis is down-regulated, resulting in the up-regulation of pentose phosphate pathway to provide precursors of anabolism and NADPH; (2) glycerophospholipid and arachidonic acid metabolisms are down-regulated, resulting in more acetyl-CoA entry into the TCA cycle and increased capacity to produce energy and macromolecular synthesis; (3) nucleotide and fatty acid synthesis pathways are all increased perhaps to protect cells from DNA and lipid peroxidation; (4) nicotinate metabolism increases which likely leads to increased production of co-enzymes (e.g., NAD+ and NADP+) for the maintenance of cellular redox and Sb(III) oxidation. Expectedly, the total NADP+/NADPH content, total glutathione, and reduced glutathione contents were all increased after Sb(III) exposure in strain GW4, which contribute to maintaining the reduced state of the cytoplasm. Our results provide novel information regarding global bacterial responses to Sb(III) exposure from a single gene level to the entire metabolome and provide specific hypotheses regarding the metabolic change to be addressed in future research.
