Dual-emissive fluorescence probes were designed by integrating porphyrin into the frameworks of UiO-66 for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of amoxicillin (AMX). Porphyrin integrated UiO-66 showed dual emission in the blue and red region. AMX resulted in the quenching of blue fluorescence component, attributable to the charge neutralization and hydrogen bonds induced energy transfer. AMX was detected using (F 438 /F 654 ) as output signals. Two linear relationships were observed (from 10 to 1000 nM and 1 to 100 µM), with a limit of detection of 27 nM. The porphyrin integrated UiO-66 probe was used to detect AMX in practical samples. This work widens the road for the development of dual/multiple emissive fluorescence sensors for analytical applications, providing materials and theoretical supporting for food, environmental, and human safety. The development of efficient catalysts with longevity to remove chlorobenzene is challenging due to Cl poisoning. Herein, a series of Mn-Cr/ZrOxcatalysts supported by Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66)-derived ZrOxwas prepared and investigated for chlorobenzene (CB) catalytic oxidation. MnCr/ZrOx-M prepared via a wet impregnation method presented an amorphous structure, indicating the homogeneous dispersion of Cr and Mn, which improved acid and redox properties. 40Mn7Cr3/ZrOx-M exhibited the best catalytic activity for chlorobenzene oxidation with T90of 293 °C, which is mainly due to the strong interaction between manganese and chromium promoted by the large specific surface area of the ZrOxsupport. Furthermore, 40Mn7Cr3/ZrOx-M presented excellent stability for chlorobenzene oxidation.

To develop porous solid-state materials for effective capture of radioactive iodine in both vapor and solution phases is of great importance. In this work, a Zr/Ti-based bimetallic metal-organic framework (AO-UiO-66-ZrTi11) was synthesized via a simple solvothermal method using 2, 5-bis (allyloxy)terephthalic acid, ZrCl4 and Cp2TiCl2. This MOF solid was fully characterized and extensively evaluated for its I2 capturing performance. AO-UiO-66-ZrTi11 demonstrated significantly enhanced I2 uptake capacity, achieving as high as 2.46 g·g-1 for iodine vapor and 1084.4 mg·g-1 for iodine/cyclohexane solution. Kinetic studies of iodine adsorption from solution revealed rapid kinetics, with the process fitting well to the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The superior adsorption performance of AO-UiO-66-ZrTi11 for iodine can be attributed to its unique bimetallic structural features and functional groups. This work provides valuable insights for the further development of efficient adsorbents towards capturing radioactive iodine.

In this study, UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal method, using acetic acid and hydrochloric acid as modulators to optimize the specific surface area and pore width. Oxytetracycline (OTC) was chosen as the test compound to evaluate the adsorption efficiency of UiO-66-NH2.The material was thoroughly characterized under varying conditions, and the adsorption mechanism was systematically explored through adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamic analyses. The results demonstrated that UiO-66-NH2 exhibited a high OTC adsorption capacity, achieving a maximum of 312.5 mg g−1 under optimal conditions. XRD, TGA, and BET analyses revealed that acetic acid and hydrochloric acid significantly improved the crystallinity and thermal stability of UiO-66-NH2, increasing the specific surface area from 8.023 m2 g−1 to 998.663 m2 g−1 and reducing the pore width from 18.783 nm to 2.129 nm. FTIR, XPS, adsorption kinetics, and isotherm studies indicated that the main forces driving OTC adsorption by CMC-Fe were hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, weak electrostatic interactions, and pore filling. Cyclic adsorption experiments further demonstrated the excellent reusability of UiO-66-NH2. In summary, the use of acetic acid and hydrochloric acid significantly increased the specific surface area of UiO-66-NH2, exposing more adsorption sites and playing a critical role in pollutant removal.

Dye wastewater poses a significant environmental threat, making the development of efficient and reusable adsorbents essential. In this study, we prepared a magnetic UiO-66 composite modified by β-CD (UiO-66@β-CD@Fe3O4) and evaluated the adsorption properties of this material on crystal violet and Congo red in aqueous solutions. β-CD was added to improve the host–guest interaction with dyes, and the Fe3O4 core made magnetic separation simple. Kinetic analysis supports the pseudo-second-order model, indicating that chemisorption is the main factor controlling the adsorption rate. Based on the Langmuir isotherm, the data suggest that adsorption occurs as a monolayer on a homogeneous surface. Maximum adsorption capacities were 542.75 mg/g for Congo red and 377.25 mg/g for crystal violet. Calculated thermodynamic values reflected an endothermic and energetically favorable adsorption mechanism. Additionally, the magnetic properties of UiO-66@β-CD@Fe3O4 enabled easy separation by using an external magnet. Strong adsorption performance was maintained by the material even after several adsorption–desorption cycles, indicating its reusability. UiO-66@β-CD@Fe3O4 exhibits promising performance in addressing dye-contaminated wastewater, confirming its application potential.

Difluoromethane (R32) is a good additive to improve the coefficient of performance (COP) of hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) which are the next generation of refrigerants. Therefore, it is important to efficiently recover Difluoromethane (R32) from R410A(a blend of 50 % R32 and 50 % pentafluoroethane (R125)) which will be eliminated due to high global warming potential (GWP). In this work, fluorinated UiO-66 was synthesized by replacing the terephthalic acid ligand in UiO-66 with an organic ligand containing fluorocarboxylic acids to enchance the separation performance of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) as filler, and the effect of the fluorine content of the fluorinated UiO-66 was investigated. In this study, Fluorinated UiO-66/Pebax MMMs were successfully prepared, with the fluorine content tailored by using different ligands. The separation performance increased with the amount of fluorine in the MOFs, namely UiO-66-(CF 3 ) 2 /Pebax > UiO-66-F 4 /Pebax > UiO-66-F 2 /Pebax > UiO-66-F/Pebax > UiO-66/Pebax MMMs. The 20 wt% UiO-66-(CF 3 ) 2 /Pebax achieved an ultra-high P R32 of 979.53 Barrer (397 % of pure Pebax membrane) while maintaining a high ɑ R32/R125 (16.64, 251 % of pure Pebax membrane). The tested results showed that the fluorinated UiO-66/Pebax MMMs sigificantly improved permeability and selectivity for R410A due to the higher R32 solubility caused by C-F…H hydrogen bonding network formed between the fluorine groups and R32 as well as the better sieving ability caused by the decrease in the pore size of UiO-66. The fluorinated MOFs/Pebax MMMs prepared in this work simultaneously achieved better R32/R125 selectivity and R32 permeability, than the exsited membranes, enabling effective separation and recycle R32 from R410A.

Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in water represents a highly promising strategy for environmental remediation. However, conventional photocatalysts are hampered by their inefficient employment of visible light energy and the propensity of photoinduced charge carriers to undergo recombination. To overcome these limitations, Z-scheme photocatalyst UiO-66-NO 2 @ Ag/AgCl (UiO@Ag-X, where X denotes the Ag/AgCl content) composites were designed and prepared. The crystal structure, morphology, photocatalytic performance, light absorption capacity, and carrier separation efficiency were systematically tested. Optical and electrochemical measurements revealed that the incorporation of Ag/AgCl enhanced the segregation and transfer efficiency of charge, which is crucial for boosting photocatalytic activity. These improvements directly contributed to the enhanced degradation efficiency observed in subsequent experiments. In experiments using methyl violet (MV) as the model pollutant, the photocatalytic degradation performance of UiO@Ag-X samples was evaluated. Among these samples, UiO@Ag-50 achieved a remarkable degradation efficiency under light irradiation. Moreover, the corresponding kinetic rate constant was about 0.04724 min -1 , which was higher than that of UiO-66-NO 2 . Quenching experiments were employed to investigate the mechanisms related to photocatalysis. The results show that hydroxyl radicals play an important role in the degradation of MV.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used as high-performance proton-conducting materials of proton exchange membranes (PEMs) for efficient proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) due to their precisely tunable structures and versatile chemical functionalization. However, the poor distribution of MOFs within polymer matrices and their limited proton transport pathways remain substantial challenges. In this work, a silane-networking strategy is proposed to construct silane-networked UiO-66-NH₂ (Si-UiO-66-NH₂), which serves not only as a spatial barrier through Si–O–Si crosslinking to inhibit self-aggregation but also as a proton-conductive mediator via superficial polar groups that enhance proton transport. The resulting silane-networked MOFs exhibit enhanced interfacial compatibility with the Nafion matrix, thereby promoting uniform dispersion of MOF particles throughout the polymer network. More impressively, the abundant polar functional groups of silane-networked MOFs reorganize the hydrophilic/hydrophobic microphase-separated structure of the membrane, facilitating the formation of continuous, low-energy-barrier proton transport channels. Benefitting from these structural enhancements, the composite membranes exhibit excellent performance, including a low swelling ratio of 15.7 % at 80 °C and high proton conductivity (236.4 mS·cm −1 ). When applied in a water electrolyzer, the optimized Si-UiO-66-NH₂@Nafion membrane results in a significantly reduced cell voltage of 1.887 V at a current density of 3.0 A·cm −2 at 80 °C, representing a 15.3 % decrease compared to the system using recast Nafion. This work introduces an effective ionomer/filler interfacial modulation strategy to improve the water electrolysis performance of PEMs.

Efficient and selective removal of fluoride from water remains a critical challenge in environmental remediation. In this work, we report a thermally modulated strategy to enhance the electrosorption performance of cerium-based metal–organic frameworks (UiO-66(Ce)) for fluoride removal. Rather than complete carbonization, controlled partial carbonization at 400 °C was found to be optimal, inducing the in situ formation of well-dispersed CeO2 nanoparticles and the development of interconnected mesoporous channels. The evolution of the pore structure with different thermal treatment temperatures was comprehensively characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption analysis and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). This approach effectively balances electrical conductivity and active site availability, leveraging a nanoconfinement effect that restricts CeO2 aggregation, preserves active sites, and facilitates efficient ion transport. The optimized UiO-66(Ce)-400 °C material exhibits a high electrosorption capacity of 73.7 mg·g–1, rapid kinetics, and strong fluoride selectivity in the presence of competing anions. Finite element simulations and electrochemical analyses confirm that the synergy between enhanced mesoporosity, conductivity, and active site accessibility drives superior performance. Furthermore, the electrode demonstrates excellent regeneration and stability over five cycles. This study presents a versatile and scalable approach for engineering MOF-derived materials, offering valuable insights into the design of next-generation electrosorption systems for water treatment.

Arginine has been widely applied in the food industry as coloring agents, flavoring agents, and nutritional fortifiers. It is also one of the major components of feed additives. Currently, methods for the highly selective detection of arginine remain absent. For accurate and sensitive detection of L−arginine, a novel ratiometric fluorescence assay based on Ru@UiO-66-NH2was developed and demonstrated in this study. Under optimized detection conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) of this assay for L-arginine was 2.32 μM, which is superior to most assays reported to date. Meanwhile, Ru@UiO-66-NH2showed good stability within 30 days, demonstrating the wide applicability of the proposed assay. The spike-and-recovery rates of the proposed assay for L-arginine in real samples (e.g., tea, grape juice, and serum) were 84.27–113.09%. Overall, the proposed assay showed high sensitivity, good reproducibility, and excellent stability in the detection of L-arginine in both buffer and real samples.

The creation of defects in crystalline structures can tune metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) properties, such as improving their adsorptive and catalytic performance with producing more porosity and active sites. In this work, the bimetallic UiO-66 containing Zn and Zr was prepared. And then UiO-66 with missing cluster defects (UiO-66-1/3) were obtained by acid washing to remove the Zn nodes. UiO-66-1/3 was used as sorbent of dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE) to extract and enrich (BUs). Combination with high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) was developed to detect trace BUs in soil samples. Adsorption equilibrium can be reached in 3 min. The method possesses high enrichment factor (202-325), low detection limit (0.005-0.04 ng·mL -1 ), and wide linear range (0.02-200 ng·mL -1 ). In addition, the recovery rate of UiO-66-1/3 as an adsorbent was still higher than 95% after reused for 16 times. This work provides a new material for the enrichment and detection of benzoylurea insecticides in the environment.

The hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to biofuel 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) serves as a vital reaction in biomass refineries. Herein, Pd-UiO-66 catalysts with controlled contents of ligand-vacancies were developed for the HMF-to-DMF conversion. Strikingly, a volcano-like relationship between defect level and HDO activity was obtained. The DMF yield was promoted ∼3 times, reaching 92.2 % at 160 °C and 15 bar H 2 , which refers to a high-level turnover frequency value of 42.66 h −1 among the reported candidates. The Pd-UiO-66 catalysts also afforded >80 % yield for the HDO of 5-methyl furfural, furfural, and vanillin. Besides, high HDO activity could be retained in five recycles. Manipulating the contents of ligand-vacancies was confirmed to create more Pd 0 species and Bronsted acid sites, leading to remarkable performance. This work provides significant inspiration for tuning structural defects in MOFs to realize the efficient HDO of platform molecules in biomass valorization.
