Several reports reveal that high level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in serum enhances venture of diabetes. In this article, we presented a platform which blended Zr(IV)-organic framework with 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate ligand (Zr-tdc) and ionic liquid (IL) to form a steady composite membrane on the carbon paste electrode (CPE). The platform was applied to CRP and glucose biosensors which were connected with diabetes and displayed well performances. Firstly, a sensitive immunosensor for label-free and direct detection of CRP was developed at Zr-tdc/IL modified electrode. Under optimal conditions, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) response showed the low detection limit of CRP was 0.2 ng/mL. Secondly, the glucose biosensor immobilized glucose oxidase (GOX) was constructed and studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and amperometric response. The Michaelis–Menten constant (KM) of immobilized GOX was 0.16 mM, and the detection limit was 2.7 μM for glucose. Two novel biosensors displayed well selectivity, stability and lower detection limit. This work improved the performance of electrochemical sensing and expand the utilization of the material by carrying on the effective immobilization of enzyme and antibody.

Amorphous Li–La–Zr–O (LLZO) solid-state electrolyte thin films are promising alternatives to the well-established lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LiPON) electrolyte for all-solid-state lithium batteries due to their potentially higher Li-ion conductivity and stability. Herein, the enhancement methodology in the ionic conductivity of amorphous LLZO-based thin films is investigated. By doping with Ta, the conductivity of the amorphous LLZO film at 30 °C (3.9 × 10–7 S cm–1) can be enhanced by up to an order of magnitude (2.6 × 10–6 S cm–1), ascribed to tuning Li conduction in local near-order LLZO nanodomains. On that basis, an isomeric Li–La–Zr–Ta–O (LLZTO) amorphous–crystalline composite thin film is prepared via incorporating cubic LLZTO particles into the amorphous LLZTO matrix. The composite film with 10 wt % cubic LLZTO filler can further achieve an ionic conductivity of 0.8 × 10–5 S cm–1 at 30 °C, which is comparable to the best values obtained for the state-of-art LLZO-based thin films. Li transport through the well-connected cubic LLZTO filler network and along the interfaces between the crystallites and the amorphous matrix in the LLZTO composite thin film may offer fast and long-range Li-conduction pathways, which supplement the ionic conduction in the amorphous matrix with short-range-ordered and long-range-disordered structures.

The resource utilization of CO 2 has garnered significant attention. Among various approaches, the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO 2 is considered an effective route to reduce chemical pollution and achieve atomic economy. In this work, Zr/Sn metal oxide catalysts were prepared by combining the precipitation method with a cotton-templating approach. The mechanistic role of the cotton template in modulating the catalyst structure and its performance in DMC synthesis were systematically investigated. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, UV-Vis DRS, and Raman spectroscopy to elucidate their morphology, crystalline structure, and optical properties. Furthermore, the structure-activity relationship was established based on catalytic tests. The results indicated that the template agent has a remarkable impact on the structural properties and catalytic activity of the Zr/Sn-2–5 g catalyst. The strong interaction between ZrO 2 and SnO 2 facilitates the dispersion and stability of active sites, thereby enhancing the catalyst’s activity and selectivity. Notably, the Zr/Sn-4 g catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic activity, yielding 1.74 mmol/g of DMC. This study offers new insights into the design of efficient catalysts for the direct synthesis of DMC from CO 2 . Graphical

Efficient separation of nuclear-grade zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) remains a significant challenge in the nuclear industry. In this study, a novel extractant, di(p-tert-octylphenyl) phosphate (DTOPPA), was designed and synthesized. DTOPPA demonstrated preferential extraction of Hf over Zr in sulfuric acid media, surpassing the performance of conventional extractants such as D2EHPA and PC88A. Under optimized conditions, Hf(IV) extraction achieved 90.7% with a separation factor SF (Hf/Zr) of 13.4. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and acid–base titration indicated enhanced dissociation of DTOPPA, attributed to the electron-withdrawing phenoxy group, which facilitates cation exchange. Slope analysis, saturation capacity measurements, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) identified the extracted species as Zr(Hf)OA 2 ·2DTOPPA, involving cation exchange and P=O coordination. Selective stripping of Zr was accomplished using dilute sulfuric acid, while oxalic acid efficiently stripped Hf. A two-stage countercurrent extraction process yielded nuclear-grade Zr with stable organic phase recycling. This novel extractant provides an environmentally friendly and efficient method for Zr/Hf separation with significant potential for industrial application.

To reduce the oxidation damage during the initial active oxidation stage of ZrB 2 -SiC coating, this paper employed a slurry-brushing method to prepare a self-healing Zr-Si-B-O biomimetic glass film on the surface of the ZrB 2 -SiC coating. Furthermore, the oxidation resistance behavior of biomimetic glass films with varying ZrO 2 contents was investigated. Experimental results indicate that the Zr-Si-B-O biomimetic glass film can significantly reduce the oxidation weight gain of ZrB 2 -SiC coating. The biomimetic glass film sample with 70 wt% ZrO 2 exhibits the best oxidation protection effect. After oxidation treatment in the temperature range of 600-1600 °C, the weight gain is only 0.081 × 10 −2 g cm −2 , which is 95.35% lower than that of the sample without the biomimetic glass film; after oxidation at 1700 °C, the final protection efficiency and average carbon loss rate reach the optimal values of 99.97% and 0.34 × 10 −6 g cm −2 s −1 , respectively, and the average oxygen permeability is only 0.35%. The presence of Zr-Si-B-O biomimetic glass film can significantly reduce the oxidation activity and improve the oxidation resistance of the coating. This is attributed to the pre-introduction of a flowable and self-healing glass on the coating surface, which prevented the intense oxidation of the coating at the initial stage.

Metal tellurides (MTs) as potential electrode materials for sodium-ion battery suffer from detrimental volume expansion, followed by severe capacity degradation. Herein, an inbuilt Zr Te framework is introduced into CoTe 2 to boost the overall electrochemical performance of sodium ion storage. The ex-situ XPS results suggest that the Zr Te framework is unreactive, which can counteract the volume expansion due to the large size of Zr atom. In addition, the suitable introduction of Zr shall decrease the adsorption energy and diffusion barrier of Na + ion, proved by density functional theoretical calculations. As a result, Zr-CoTe 2 with the inbuilt and unreactive Zr Te framework can deliver a maximum capacity of 357 mAh g −1 at 0.05 A g −1 , an outstanding rate capability (121 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 ), and an enhanced cyclability (85% retention after 1000 cycles at 1 A g −1 ).

Mg-Zr composite oxides with tailored Mg-O-Zr interfacial structure weresynthesized. • Synergistic Mg-O-Zr interfacial structure integrates matched acid-basic sites • Isopropanol transfer hydrogenation achieved superior benzyl alcohol yield(89.6%). • Robust stability retained benzyl alcohol yield 82.0% after four reuse cycles. Non-noble metal composite oxide catalysts Mg x Zr 1-x O y featuring an acid–base bifunctional synergistic structure were synthesized via the co-precipitation-calcination method. Under a nitrogen atmosphere, with isopropanol serving as both the hydrogen donor and solvent, selective transfer hydrogenation of benzaldehyde to benzyl alcohol was achieved. The characterization revealed that the optimized Mg 0.7 Zr 0.3 O y catalyst possesses a highly crystalline Mg-Zr mixed-oxide structure with well-matched acidic Zr 4+ sites and surface basic sites of different strengths, including weakly basic hydroxyl species and moderate basic sites associated with interfacial oxygen species. The catalyst exhibits uniform distribution of surface sites and an appropriate pore structure, thereby providing excellent adsorption capacity and mass transfer efficiency. Under optimized conditions, the catalyst delivered nearly full benzaldehyde conversion up to 96.5% and an 89.6% yield of benzyl alcohol, together with a low apparent activation energy of 54.55 kJ·mol⁻¹. Notably, the catalyst retained a BnOH yield of 82.0% after four recycling cycles, indicating remarkable cycling stability. Compared with noble metal catalysts and monometallic oxide catalysts, the developed Mg 0.7 Zr 0.3 O y catalytic system delivers high activity, excellent selectivity, while offering the advantages of low cost and facile synthesis. This provides an efficient and stable non-noble metal catalytic solution for the selective transfer hydrogenation of benzaldehyde to benzyl alcohol and offers mechanistic insights and design principles for acid-base bifunctional composite oxides. Green synthesis of defective Zr‑MOFs employed mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as a modulator. • MAA dosage regulated framework defects, pore structure, and surface properties. • The optimized DPM-2 achieves a high adsorption capacity of 356.4 mg·g⁻¹ with equilibrium reached within 60 min. • Electrostatic, chemical, and hydrogen‑bonding interactions collectively enhanced p-ASA adsorption. Defect modulation is an effective strategy for optimizing the pore architecture and active-site accessibility of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, a series of defective Zr-MOFs was synthesized in an aqueous medium using mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as an acid modulator and is denoted as DPM-X (DUT-67(PZDC)-MAA-X, where X denotes the volume of MAA added). Structural characterization revealed that the MAA dosage played a key role in regulating framework defect formation, thereby altering the pore characteristics and surface chemical properties of the synthesized MOFs. Benefiting from abundant adsorption sites and a special pore structure, DPM-2 exhibited a high uptake of 356.4 mg·g −1 for p-ASA and reached equilibrium within only 60 min. Moreover, the material showed remarkable resistance to interference from coexisting ions and retained excellent regeneration performance during repeated use. The adsorption mechanism involves the synergistic action of electrostatic attraction, chemical bonding, and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The proposed green defect-engineering strategy provides an effective route to regulate the structural properties of Zr-MOFs, offering a practical approach to tailoring pore structure, surface chemistry, and adsorption performance. Micro moulds are widely used in the fabrication of micro/nano structures, where wear resistance is critical. This study presents a mixed phosphonic acid self-assembled monolayers (SAMs)-modified Zr-Cu-Al-Ni bulk metallic glass (BMG), which not only retains hydrophobic properties but also demonstrates exceptional high-temperature tribological performance. The wear behavior and mechanisms were systematically studied in the range from room temperature (RT) to 250 °C. Tribological tests were conducted using a multifunctional friction and wear tester in a ball-on-disk configuration, with polyetheretherketone (PEEK) balls as the counterface material against both bare and SAMs-modified Zr-based BMG specimens. The evolution of wear mechanisms in the PEEK-SAMs-modified BMG tribosystem at different temperatures was analyzed, particularly focusing on the coupled effects of the PEEK glass transition temperature and the melting and decomposition temperatures of SAMs on the tribosystem. Results demonstrate that the wear rate of Zr-Cu-Al-Ni BMG exhibits a progressive decrease within the RT to 140 °C range, declining from 53.26 × 10 −6 mm 3 N −1 m −1 to 0.156 × 10 −6 mm 3 N −1 m −1 .At RT, abrasive and minor oxidative wear dominate. Between 90 °C and 140 °C, molten SAMs films provide stable lubrication, with the friction coefficient dropping to 0.004 at 110 °C, indicating full lubrication, while maintaining hydrophobicity. At 150 °C, exceeding the glass transition temperature of the ball material (PEEK), the ball softens and increases the wear rate to 0.324 × 10 −6 mm 3 N −1 m −1 . The wear mechanism in this stage is still dominated by oxidative wear due to high temperature. Interestingly, at 200-250 °C, the friction coefficient follows a different trend, initially increasing, then decreasing, and stabilising after 800-1000 s. At stabilization, the friction coefficient matches that of unmodified BMG, while the wear rate rises to 17.205 × 10 −6 mm 3 N −1 m −1 , attributed to the thermal decomposition of SAMs and lubrication film failure. sam softening promotes adhesive wear and becomes the dominant mechanism. Meanwhile, interfacial property analysis systematically reveals the temperature-dependent effects on the chemical bonding, molecular ordering, and adsorption density of SAMs, elucidating their collective impact on wear evolution. This study demonstrates the exceptional wear resistance of SAMs-modified Zr-Cu-Al-Ni BMG, particularly at 110 °C, and further reveals that molecular interface engineering provides a novel design strategy for high-temperature wear-resistant metallic systems beyond conventional bulk strengthening approaches.

The design of Passive NO x Adsorbers (PNA) is essential for controlling cold-start emissions, yet Pd-ceria systems often encounter limitations in storage capacity and hydrothermal durability. In this work, we stabilize Pd by incorporating atomically dispersed Zr as neighboring atoms in ceria, establishing a framework for efficient and stable NO x capture. Zr doping in CeO 2 modifies the electronic environment by intensifying Pd-O hybridization and broadening electronic states near the Fermi level. These modifications, alongside emergent Pd-O-Zr interfacial sites, facilitate the dynamic reconfiguration of oxygen vacancies. This process promotes the oxidation of NO to NO 2 , enabling the optimized catalyst to yield a NO x storage capacity of 166.6 µmol/g cat —a value that surpasses the theoretical limit derived from Pd content. Structural stabilization further underpins these performance gains. Zr doping reinforces the CeO 2 lattice, enhancing the thermal resilience of the support. Simultaneously, the atomically dispersed Zr adjacent to Pd sites modulates metal-support interactions to an optimal state, effectively inhibiting Ostwald ripening, particle migration, and coalescence. These combined effects significantly improve hydrothermal stability under rigorous conditions. Our findings provide a mechanistic basis for the rational design of high-performance PNA and offer a viable pathway to mitigate cold-start NO x emissions in advanced after treatment systems.

Silicates are a highly attractive system for exploring ultraviolet (UV) optical crystals. However, silicates typically exhibit relatively small birefringence due to the weak polarizability anisotropy of tetrahedral units. 4d0 transition-metal Zr4+ not only helps to enhance structural anisotropy due to its second-order Jahn–Teller effect but also has relatively low electronegativity, and the binding of Zr to O with high electronegativity enhances the ionicity of Zr–O bonds, which helps reduce the UV cutoff edge. Herein, by introducing Zr4+ into the silicate system, K2ZrSi2O7 with enhanced birefringence and a short cutoff edge was successfully synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state method. It exhibits an enhanced birefringence of 0.047 @ 550 nm, which is at least twice that of most known UV optical silicates. Combined with its wide transmission range, short UV cutoff edge, and high thermal stability, K2ZrSi2O7 has become a promising candidate for a UV birefringent material. This work is anticipated to provide useful guidance for exploring short-UV birefringent crystals with enhanced optical properties.

For the sustainable development of nuclear energy, the fabrication of durable nuclear wasteforms, especially for high-level radioactive waste, is essential. This study introduces entropy engineering into zirconolite ceramics for the first time. A series of entropy-stabilized zirconolite ceramics with the general formula Ca( Zr , Hf , Sn ) x Ti 3-x O 7 (x = 0.8–2.2) were synthesized via cold-press sintering at 1450 °C for 10 h. The influence of multi-principal cation substitution on phase assemblage, microstructure, and chemical durability was systematically investigated. The incorporation of Zr, Hf, and Sn led to refined grain sizes, attributed to entropy-induced grain boundary pinning and lattice distortion. At x = 0.8, significant secondary phases including rutile and perovskite were observed. As the substitution level increased, these impurity phases were progressively suppressed, and phase-pure zirconolite was obtained at x = 1.8 and 2.0, as confirmed by XRD, although SEM still revealed trace perovskite. At x = 2.2, the reappearance of perovskite and formation of Hf-enriched zirconolite domains indicated the limit of solid solution stability. Raman and high-resolution TEM confirmed the 2 M zirconolite structure, accompanied by pronounced lattice distortion and stacking faults. Static leaching tests conducted in 1 M HCl revealed that samples with intermediate substitution levels (x = 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0) exhibited significantly improved chemical durability, with calcium release rates of 4.54 × 10 −4 , 2.79 × 10 −4 , and 1.14 × 10 −4 g·m −2 ·d −1 , respectively—an order of magnitude lower than that of conventional zirconolite (1.4 × 10 −3 g·m −2 ·d −1 ). The leaching rates of Zr, Hf, Sn, and Ti remained within the range of 10 −6 –10 −4 g·m −2 ·d −1 across all samples. These results demonstrate that entropy stabilization enhances phase purity, structural stability, and acid resistance, making entropy-stabilized zirconolite a promising matrix material for the immobilization of high-level radioactive waste.
