Vanadium (V)-bearing tailings can act as long-term sources of mobile V, yet the roles of tailings-associated minerals and residual beneficiation reagents in regulating V (im)mobilization remain unclear. Here, binary reactions between dissolved V(V) and representative minerals of V–Ti magnetite tailings, alongside tailings suspensions amended with oxalic acid or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), were used to isolate mineral- and reagent-specific controls on V transformation. Poorly crystalline Fe oxides, particularly ferrihydrite and lepidocrocite, showed the strongest V immobilization, decreasing dissolved total V from 25.5 mg/L to 6.16–10.5 and 6.21–8.41 mg/L, respectively. FTIR evidence for Fe–O–V surface complexation on ferrihydrite, together with limited structural changes in crystalline Fe and Fe–Ti phases, indicated that reactive surface sites rather than bulk mineral transformation dominated V immobilization. Birnessite retained V under oxidizing conditions while maintaining the aqueous V pool as V(V), whereas FeS induced reducing conditions and promoted the formation of dissolved non-V(V) species. In whole-tailings systems, oxalic acid mobilized V from the tailings, yielding 26.4 mg/L dissolved total V, and facilitated Fe(III)-to-Fe(II) transformation, with Fe(II) accounting for 95.0% of dissolved Fe by day 30 of incubation. However, XRD and FTIR showed no detectable transformation of the bulk tailings assemblage, indicating selective dissolution and redox transformation of reactive minor or poorly crystalline phases. In contrast, CMC had limited effects on V release. These findings show that reactive minor phases and residual oxalate can strongly influence V (im)mobilization, highlighting the need to incorporate reagent residues and Fe/S redox processes into risk assessments of V–Ti magnetite tailings.

O3-type layered transition metal oxides (Na x TMO 2 ) have attracted extensive attention as a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries because of their high capacity. However, the irreversible phase transition especially cycled under high voltage remains a concerning challenge for Na x TMO 2 . Herein, a Ti-substituted NaNi 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 O 2 cathode with strongly suppressed phase transition and enhanced storage stability is investigated. The Ti substitution effectively inhibits the irreversible phase transition and alleviates the structural change even charged to 4.3 V during the repeated Na + deintercalation process. After storing in air or water, the original O3 phase structure of the material is integrally maintained without the generation of impurity phase. As a result, the as-prepared material shows excellent long-term cycle stability and rate performance when charged to a high voltage of 4.3 V.

Magnetoelectric (ME) ceramic composites of CoFe 2 O 4 (CFO) and Pb(Zr,Ti)O 3 (PZT) with varied composition ratios were sintered using a spark plasma sintering (SPS) method. The characterization of the ceramic compositions and morphologies revealed an even distribution of the CFO and PZT phases. Physical property measurements showed that when the CFO mass percent increased from 8% to 15%, the piezoelectric constant and dielectric constant decreased monotonously, while the saturation magnetization and dielectric loss were enhanced. It was determined that a CFO mass percent of 10% or less resulted in a significant change of the polarization behaviour and a clear enhancement of the ME conversion voltage coefficient ( α E ) with an applied magnetic field . In contrast, CFO mass percentages greater than 10% had a reduced α E , and their polarization behaviour was not influenced by an applied magnetic field. With an increasing proportion of CFO in the composite, the α E first increased and then decreased. The maximum value of the α E indicated an optimal proportion of CFO (10%), which is attributed to a competition between the improved magnetostriction and deteriorating electric behaviour in the composite with the addition of CFO.

To improve the cyclic stability of LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 cycled between 2.8 and 4.5 V vs. Li/Li + , titanium was incorporated into LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 at various molar concentrations of 1, 2, 3 and 5% during the synthesis. The XRD , EDS and XPS analyses indicated that the titanium ions were effectively incorporated into the lattice of ternary oxides by occupying the transitional metal positions. Among the investigated molar concentrations, 2% Ti-substituted LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 exhibited the best multifaceted performances with a relatively high capacity (205.7 mA h g −1 at 0.1 C), good rate capability (178.2 mA h g −1 at 1 C, 155.3 mA h g −1 at 5 C) and acceptable cyclic stability (86.9% at the 200th). The post-mortem analysis indicated that Ti substitution alleviates cracking from secondary particles to primary ones. This behavior is most likely due to the decreased ratio of volumetric deformation ( i.e. , 4.82% for the 2% Ti-substituted sample, which is 19.8% lower than that of the pristine one). Our results demonstrate that mechanical properties may play a crucial role in its long cyclability for use as a high-capacity ternary cathode.

In this work, V-Pt-Ti catalysts were synthesized employing impregnation (IP), precipitation (PC), sol-gel (SG), thermal decomposition (TD), and hydrothermal (HD) methods. A systematic study has been carried out to investigate impacts of various preparation methods on the performance of NH3selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) at temperatures from 150 °C to 450 °C. N2adsorption/desorption, XPS, XRD, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD, O2-TPD, SEM, TEM, and in situ DRIFTS were adopted to characterize the physico-chemical property of V-Pt-Ti catalysts. The results suggested that V-Pt-Ti catalysts synthesized by precipitation methods (denoted as VPT-PC) exhibited notably better SCO performance across the 150–450 °C temperature range compared with those produced by impregnation (IP), sol-gel (SG), thermal decomposition (TD), and hydrothermal (HD) methods. The outstanding performance of the VPT-PC catalyst could be ascribed to its larger surface area, higher relative contents of Pt0, V5+, and Oα, more abundant surface acid sites, and better redox property. In situ DRIFTS results suggested that NO2species could participate in NH3oxidation reaction on the surface of the VPT-PC catalyst, which was beneficial for improving the SCO activity.

The dissimilar metals joining of Ti/Cu was conducted using a rapid thermal explosion (TE) reaction. The Ni-Al powder mixture was used as TE reaction system, and the effect of temperature (600, 700, 800 and 900 °C) on interfacial diffusions, microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti/Cu joint were investigated. The maximum combustion temperature of Ni-Al interlayer during heating process was 720 °C and a significant exothermic phenomenon was observed for 5 s. The infiltration of melted Al into the Ti/Cu substrate and formed a continuous transition region at the interface of the joints were the dominant joining mechanisms. Microhardness of the interlayer after heated at 900 °C for 30 min possessed prominent improvement from 32.6 to 101.7 HV due to the completely phase transformation of Ni-Al interlayer, which composed of main phase NiAl and minor phase Ni 3 Al. The bond strength of the joint was checked to assess the joint quality. For the joint processed by 900 °C for 30 min, the maximum shear strength of Ti/NiAl and Cu/NiAl were 33.4 MPa and 39 MPa, respectively.

Hydrolyzed species critically govern the coagulation behavior of Ti-based coagulants in chemically enhanced primary sedimentation (CEPS), thereby influencing the subsequent anaerobic fermentation of CEPS sludge. However, whether and how preparation-induced Al-Ti speciation modulates solid-liquid interfacial interactions and substrate accessibility during acidogenic fermentation remains unclear, limiting the simultaneous optimization of pollutant removal and resource recovery. Here, polyaluminum-titanium chloride (PATC) composite coagulants with distinct hydrolyzed species distributions were synthesized by slow alkaline titration (S-PATC) and electrodialysis (E-PATC). Compared with S-PATC, E-PATC achieved 99.52%, 68.60%, and 71.38% higher removal efficiencies for PO 4 3− -P, UV 254 , and COD, respectively. The superior CEPS performance was attributed to the synergistic effects of highly charged small species and highly polymerized macromolecular species. Crucially, the hydrolyzed Al-Ti species introduced during CEPS acted as a front-end regulator of sludge fermentability by reconstructing solid-liquid interfacial interactions and modulating substrate accessibility. Compared with S-PATC-loaded sludge, E-PATC-loaded sludge exhibited weaker hydrophilic repulsion and higher volatile fatty acids (VFAs) production, which was associated with enhanced interfacial mass transfer. Under alkaline conditions, enhanced hydrophilic repulsion coexisted with electrostatic repulsion in the E-PATC system, with the latter predominating and promoting greater sludge disintegration. Consequently, the maximum concentration of soluble organic matter increased from 764 mg/L to 2222 mg/L on Day 4, providing abundant substrates for acidogenic microorganisms. As a result, the VFAs yield reached 1250.83 mg-COD/L, which was 6.67% higher than that obtained with S-PATC-loaded sludge. This work provides evidence that hydrolyzed Al-Ti species play a pivotal role in coagulation behavior and subsequent sludge fermentation.

The PbO 2 nanospheres supported on SnO 2 nanowires at Ti substrate (PbO 2 nanospheres@SnO 2 NWs/Ti) electrode was successfully synthesized through hydrothermal method. The structure and morphology of the electrode were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical property was carried out by cyclic voltammogrametry (CV) and UV spectroscopy was used to monitor the changes during the electrochemical degradation process. The results showed that the as-prepared electrode exhibited a three-dimensional (3D) reticulated structure with a large surface area. The average diameter of a single PbO 2 nanosphere is about 300 nm. XRD distinctively identified that the PbO 2 nanospheres was mainly composed of tetragonal-shaped β-PbO 2 crystal. The CV results show that methyl orange (MO) can be oxidized on the electrode surface at the potential of +1.3 V vs. Ag/AgCl. As much as 92.7% of chemical oxygen demand (COD) was removed in 60 min at 25 °C and pH 5.0 with an applied current density of 15 mA/cm 2 . Proper degradation mechanism was also proposed.

Two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXenes) have a unique structure, excellent electronic conductivity and a low Li+ diffusion barrier, and show potential for application in energy storage. Especially, MXenes can act as a conductive matrix to achieve excellent lithium storage performance. Herein, a Ti3C2Tx MXene/carbon nanotubes@red phosphorus (Ti3C2Tx/CNTs@P) nanohybrid with stable Ti–O–P bonds is fabricated. The CNTs are introduced into Ti3C2Tx to construct a conductive network, and then the Ti3C2Tx/CNTs are combined with P by a ball-milling method. In this process, the surface oxygen-containing functional groups of Ti3C2Tx interact with P, forming Ti–O–P bonds. Owing to the large capacity contribution of P, the conductive network and buffering role of Ti3C2Tx/CNTs, and the effect of the Ti–O–P bond, the Ti3C2Tx/CNTs@P nanohybrid exhibits a superior reversible capacity of 2598 mA h g−1 at 0.05C (1C = 2600 mA g−1, based on the active material P), excellent cycling stability (2078 mA h g−1 after 500 cycles) and superior rate capability (454 mA h g−1 at 30C). These results demonstrate that the Ti3C2Tx/CNTs@P nanohybrid offers fascinating potential for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have received increasing attention for conducting miscellaneous photocatalytic reactions. Amorphous TiO 2 , despite the lack of visible light activity, can be a platform for integrating with a Ti-based MOF NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) during hydrothermal process. Herein, amorphous TiO 2 microspheres are synthesized to enhance the activity of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) by integration. The morphology, porosity, and activity of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/amorphous TiO 2 microspheres are systematically investigated by various methods. The photocatalyst NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/amorphous TiO 2 exhibits enhanced conversions, more than five times that of pristine NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti), for the selective oxidation of benzylamine. A series of optical and electrochemical characterizations are performed to clarify the mechanism for the photocatalytic selective oxidation of benzyl amines. Specifically, for NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti)/amorphous TiO 2 , visible light absorption is from NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti); and faster electron transfer to molecular oxygen is due to amorphous TiO 2 . This work shows that integrating MOFs with metal oxides can be crucial in enhancing visible light photocatalysis .

The oxygen species in oxygen carriers directly influence the reaction performance in chemical looping processes. This paper describes the relationship between oxygen species and performance in chemical looping partial oxidation of methane (CLPOM) over LaNi x Ti 1- x O 3- δ ( x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1) perovskites . Due to the increase of Ti substitution, the predominate reaction during CLPOM gradually changes from complete oxidation to partial oxidation. Quasi in situ XPS characterization suggests that the relative concentration of nucleophilic lattice oxygen species for partial oxidation increases with Ti substitution, while the relative concentration of electrophilic adsorbed oxygen species for complete oxidation decreases. The moderate Ti substitution for LaNi 0.5 Ti 0.5 O 3- δ provides the suitable lattice oxygen activity for the methane partial oxidation. Moreover, LaNi 0.5 Ti 0.5 O 3- δ exhibits high cyclic stability in redox cycles. This work demonstrates that the regulation of oxygen species distribution and activity is feasible to tailor the reaction performance of oxygen carriers in chemical looping processes.

The development of polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis of water is mainly limited by the high cost of noble metals and inadequate stability owing to the slow reaction kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction and the restrictions of strongly acidic operating environments. To improve the utilization of noble metals, we use Ti-doped SnO2 as a carrier to support active species IrO2. The results show that the introduction of Ti element can inhibit the grain growth and help to improve the electrical conductivity of SnO2. Electrochemical tests for the catalysts show that 40 wt % IrO2/TSO has the best mass-normalized charge (231.24 C g–1 IrO2) and current density (714.85 A g–1 IrO2) at 1.6 V with the overpotential of only 271 mV at 10 mA cm–2, which is attributed to the outstanding dispersion effect of Ti-doped SnO2 and the synergy between the active species and the introduction of Ti element. The comprehensive advantages exhibited by the Ti-doped SnO2 support provide an alternative solution to reduce the cost of noble metal catalysts by improving the catalytic activity and stability.
