Although cadmium (Cd)-based nanocrystals have enabled high-performance quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), their mass production is likely to be affected by environmental protection policies. Among all the potential Cd-free candidates, Cu-In-Zn-S (CIZS) nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted particular interests. Still, the performance of the corresponding LED is currently limited by imbalanced charge injection and luminescence quenching, which are both related to the ZnO-based electron transporting layer (ETL). This work demonstrates that ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) doped with Sn, Mg (Zn 1− x − y Sn x Mg y O), and passivated with Cl are promising to resolve the above issues. All-solution-processed QLEDs based on Cd-free CIZS NCs are fabricated by using Zn 0.9 Sn 0.1 O NPs as the ETL, and the peak external quantum efficiency (EQE max ) was nearly twice that of ZnO (EQE max = 1.74%). The main reason is that the incorporation of Sn can reduce the conductivity of ZnO by an order of magnitude. Combining the advantages of Zn 0.9 Sn 0.1 O, Zn 0.8 Sn 0.1 Mg 0.1 O@Cl NPs are designed by the co-doping of Mg and Cl passivation. The EQE max and current efficiency based on Zn 0.8 Sn 0.1 Mg 0.1 O and Zn 0.8 Sn 0.1 Mg 0.1 O@Cl as ETLs are further increased to 4.84%, 14.00 cd A −1 and 5.53%, 15.99 cd A −1 , respectively. The positive effects of Mg ions can remarkably optimize energy level structure to balance charge injection, while Cl can further passivate defects. The findings offer a new guideline for developing Cd-free light-emitting diodes.

Due to the hydrophilicity and black-phase instability of FA perovskites, ambient humidity is an unavoidable issue in the processing of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). MACl is among the most popular additives for improving perovskite films, but our experiments confirm that the direct addition of MACl into the precursor solution deteriorates the stability of the final α-FAPbI3 films in humid air, which is attributed to the unwanted pinholes induced by MACl volatilization. To solve this problem, a novel confined-space annealing strategy (CSA) is intentionally developed to control the amount of MACl at a low level. Through retarding the volatilization of MACl and blocking moisture ingress, dense and δ-phase-free FAPbI3 films with excellent crystallinity and stability are achieved at 100 °C under high humidity (RH: 60 ± 10%). We further compare the same amounts of MAI and FACl additives with MACl, discovering that only when MA and Cl work together can pure α-FAPbI3 films be obtained; therefore, a mechanism of MA-assisted nucleation and Cl-induced diffusion recrystallization is inferred. As a result, the PSCs employing optimal films yield a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.27% and retain over 90% of the initial PCE after exposure to high humidity for 480 h. Our results offer deep insights into the thermodynamic and kinetic behaviors of MA and Cl in film growth and are beneficial for air-processed FA-based PSCs for commercial application.

In the present study, new N,Cl co-doped carbon dots (N,Cl-CDs) based on deep eutectic solvent (DES) were fabricated by a facile hydrothermal process. This fluorescent probe exhibited a good quantum yield of 14% and was applied for the sensitive and selective quantification of morphine in foods. In addition, the influence of solution pH, interaction time, system temperature, interfering substances and analogues on the determination was also investigated. Under the optimized conditions, the luminescence intensity of carbon dots increased linearly with the addition of morphine in the concentration range of (0.15–280.25) μg mL−1 (R2 > 0.9969) and the limit of detection (LOD) of 46.5 ng mL−1. Based on these results, it is suggested that N,Cl-CDs is a promising fluorescent probe for sensitive and selective quantification of morphine in foods.

In this work, we report a family of co-halogenated two-dimensional hybrid perovskites (2DHPs) based on phenethylammonium lead halogen ((PEA) 2 Pb(Cl/Br) 4 ) in which the organic cation-site (PEA) is substituted with halogen at the para-site, namely the formation of 4-halophenethylamine (X-p-PEA) (X = Cl, Br; p: para-site). The organic cations are regulated by introducing halogen ions at the para-site of the benzene ring to promote the structural distortion of the lead halide octahedral inorganic layer. Furthermore, (X-p-PEA) causes a shift in the energy band distribution of 2DHPs. In this case, the photoluminescence competition of free excitons (FEs) and self-trapped excitons (STEs) changes the microscopic relaxation process of excitons. In addition, we found that (Br-p-PEA) can increase the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). At the same time, we regulate the halogen-site of perovskites from lead-chloride perovskites (LCPs) to lead bromine perovskites (LBPs), achieving emission from white light to blue light. Therefore, the co-halogenation regulation strategy of organic cation-site and halogen-site can effectively regulate the photoluminescence wavelength and improve the PLQY. This is of great significance for the development of perovskite materials with specific optoelectronic applications.

Two-dimensional (2D) organic–inorganic perovskite hybrid materials with enhanced stability have attracted wide attention in optoelectronic field in recent years. Efforts of exploring new 2D perovskites with various organic or inorganic components have been devoted to further improve their solar cell efficiencies. In this work, three structurally similar spacer cations of phenylethylammonium (PEA), 4-bromophenylethylammonium (BPEA) and 4-chlorophenylethylammonium (CPEA) are selected to prepare multilayered 2D perovskites. It is found that the introduction of halogen atoms in the organic cations positively influences the film quality, light absorption, charge transport, device performance and moisture stability of the resulting perovskites. The (BPEA) 2 (MA) 4 Pb 5 I 16 and (CPEA) 2 (MA) 4 Pb 5 I 16 perovskites exhibit efficiencies of 7.38% and 10.88%, respectively, which are much higher than that of (PEA) 2 (MA) 4 Pb 5 I 16 (3.98%). Owning to the larger size and bigger electronegativity of halogen atom in spacer cations, the PCE of unsealed BPEA- and CPEA-based 2D perovskite devices maintains 73% and 63% of their original efficiency after 720 h exposure to 60% humid air, while the PEA-based 2D device decreases to 52% of its initial PCE. Our work demonstrates new insight to modify the quality and stability of 2D perovskite hybrids, highlighting the validity of molecule design of organic cations in improving the efficiency and stability of 2D perovskite solar cells.

It has been a long pursuit to discriminate the ionic roles of mono- and di-valent salt solutions in modulating the hydrogen bonding network and solution properties. We attended this issue by examining the effect of concentrated YX 2 (Y Mg, Ca, Sr; X Cl, Br) solvation on O:H O bonds transition from the mode of ordinary water to hydration in terms of the number fraction f YX2 ( C ) and the segmental O:H O bond phonon stiffness shift Δω(C) with C being the solute concentration. The invariant df Y ( C ) / dC at C ≤ <0.05 suggests that the small Y 2+ forms a constantly-sized hydration droplet with weak responding to interference of other ions because its hydrating H 2 O dipoles screen mostly its electric field. However, the number inadequacy of the highly-ordered hydrating H 2 O dipoles partially screens the large X − . The X − ↔ X − electrostatic repulsion weakens its electric field. The concentration-trend consistency of the f YX2 ( C ), the solution conductivity σ YX2 ( C ), and surface stress (contact angle) θ YX2 ( C ) for YX 2 solutions clarifies their common origin of ionic polarization. However, the Jones–Dale notion disobedience of the viscosity η YX2 ( C ) suggests the dominance of the inter-ion repulsion.

In this work, a series of Ag/AgX (X = Cl, Br, I)/g-C 3 N 4 (Ag/AgX/CN) composites were successfully fabricated by an in-situ solid phase method. The morphology and structure, photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical properties of composites were investigated in detail. The as-prepared Ag/AgX/CN composites were used as H 2 evolution photocatalysts under visible-light irradiation with a sacrificial agent . The experimental results revealed that Ag/AgI/CN-4 composite possesses highest-H 2 evolution rate (up to 59.22 μmol g −1 h −1 ) which are approximately 31 times higher than that of pure g-C 3 N 4 (1.94 μmol g −1 h −1 ). In addition, Ag/AgCl/CN-4 and Ag/AgBr/CN-4 composites also present high photocatalytic activities yielding, 26.39 and 18.05 μmol H2 g −1 h −1 , respectively. The enhanced photocatalytic activities of Ag/AgI/CN-4 composite might be attributed to the synergistic effect between Ag/AgI nanoparticles and g-C 3 N 4 and the localized surface plasmon resonance effect of metallic Ag. Moreover, Ag/AgI/CN-4 composite showed excellent recyclability and stability after five cycling photocatalytic tests (about 25 h). Furthermore, the possible photocatalytic mechanism of Ag/AgI/CN composites is proposed.

Penetrating into the inner surface of porous metal-oxide nanostructures to encapsulate the conductive layer is an efficient but challenging route to exploit high-performance lithium-ion battery electrodes. Furthermore, if the bonding force on the interface between the core and shell was enhanced, the structure and cyclic performance of the electrodes will be greatly improved. Here, vertically aligned interpenetrating encapsulation composite nanoframeworks were assembled from Cl–/SO32–-codoped poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) that interpenetrated and coated on porous Fe2O3 nanoframeworks (PEDOT-IE-Fe2O3) via a one-step Fe3+-induced in situ growth strategy. Compared with conventional wrapped structures and methods, the special PEDOT-IE-Fe2O3 encapsulation structure has many advantages. First, the codoped PEDOT shell ensures a high conductive network in the composites (100.6 S cm–1) and provides interpenetrating fast ion/electron transport pathways on the inner and outer surface of a single composite unit. Additionally, the pores inside offer void space to buffer the volume expansion of the nanoscale frameworks in cycling processes. In particular, the formation of Fe–S bonds on the organic–inorganic interface (between PEDOT shell and Fe2O3 core) enhances the structural stability and further extends the cell cycle life. The PEDOT-IE-Fe2O3 was applied as lithium-ion battery anodes, which exhibit excellent lithium storage capability and cycling stability. The capacity was as high as 1096 mA h g–1 at 0.05 A g–1, excellent rate capability, and a long and stable cycle process with a capacity retention of 89% (791 mA h g–1) after 1000 cycles (2 A g–1). We demonstrate a novel interpenetrating encapsulation structure to highly enhance the electrochemical performance of metal-oxide nanostructures, especially the cycling stability, and provide new insights for designing electrochemical energy storage materials.

We developed a simple X − -assisted (X = Cl, Br, I) one-pot hydrothermal reaction to successfully synthesize a series of BiOX/Bi 2 WO 6 heterojunction. The effect of different halogens and their addition amount on the photocatalytic performance of BiOX/Bi 2 WO 6 composites was investigated using benzyl alcohol selective oxidation under visible-light irradiation. All BiOX could enhance the photocatalytic activity of Bi 2 WO 6 , but the BiOBr was the optimum for the maximum improvement of Bi 2 WO 6 . The match of energy band structure between BiOX and Bi 2 WO 6 resulted in the highly efficient separation of photogenerated charges, which was mainly attributed to their fundamental distinction of the photocatalytic activity. This work clarified the essential distinction in photocatalytic performance of the different halogen of BiOX/Bi 2 WO 6 heterojunction, and also provided guidance for the construction of efficient heterojunction photocatalysts.

Full-color visible emissions are particularly crucial for applications in displays and lightings. In this work, we developed a facile room-temperature ligand-assisted supersaturated recrystallization synthesis of monodisperse, cubic structure Cs1–mFAmPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I or their mixtures Cl/Br and Br/I, 0 ≤ m ≤ 1) hybrid perovskite quantum dots (QDs). Impressively, cation substitution of Cs+ by FA+ was beneficial in finely tuning the band gap and in exciton recombination kinetics, improving the structural stability, and raising the absolute quantum yields up to 85%. With further assistance of anion replacement, full-spectral visible emissions in the wavelength range of 450–750 nm; narrow full width at half-maxima, and a wide color gamut, encompassing 130% of National Television System Committee television color standard, were achieved. Finally, Cs1–mFAmPbX3-polymer films retaining multicolor luminescence are prepared and a prototype white light-emitting diode device was constructed using green Cs0.1FA0.9PbBr3 and red Cs0.1FA0.9Br1.5I1.5 QDs as color converters, certainly suggesting their potential applications in the optoelectronics field.

A smart means to achieve the harmless treatment of corrosive Cl – have been proposed for protecting brass. In this method, intelligent self-healing nanofilms based on the interlayer anion exchange properties of LDHs in situ grow on brass surfaces. The Cl – ions replace the BTA – loaded between LDHs interlayers to induce self-healing, as the binding energy of Cl – is lower than that of BTA – , obtained from theoretical calculations. The simultaneous application of electrochemistry and digital holography technologies confirmed that the constructed film has high instantaneous corrosion inhibition efficiency (99.9 %), long-lasting corrosion resistance, and self-healing ability (50 days).

Producing hydrogen through water electrolysis represents a clean and sustainable solution that is crucial in addressing the energy crisis. Nonetheless, the slow process of water electrolysis leads to large different kinetics for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under different pH solutions. Here, we designed surface modified metallic X-Cu catalysts (X = F, Cl, Br) with different non-metallic elements on nickel foam (NF) using an electrochemical deposition method, which realizes high performance for all-pH range. In 1.0 M KOH, 1.0 M phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), and 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 media, F-Cu catalyst reaches 10 mA cm −2 with overpotentials of 56 mV, 110 mV, and 197 mV, respectively. Theoretical calculations disclose that the surface modification of F atom leads to redistribution of electrons, causing an upward shift of Cu’s d-band center and enhanced adsorption ability for H 2 O and H intermediates (H*). This work offers novel perspectives for designing Cu-based catalysts with high HER performance, making them applicable across all-pH conditions.
