Structural color-generating materials are expected to replace pigments and dyes as a new type of color-developing materials with good light stability and bright colors. Due to the relatively high refractive index of Cu2O microspheres, they have strong Mie scattering in the visible region. Herein, various sizes of Cu2O microspheres were synthesized by a two-step reduction method, and the Cu2O spheres were firmly bonded to the fabrics by using the PVA binder. Four different fabrics (cotton, silk, polyester, and nylon fabrics) were evaluated to investigate the physical properties and color fastness. It turns out that the tensile and tearing properties of the Cu2O structured fabrics decreased to a certain extent, and the bursting properties of fabrics increased, except for the cotton structured fabrics. Meanwhile, all the structural colored fabrics showed excellent color fastness to shearing, rubbing, and washing. This study provides experimental data for developing the application of structural colors on different fabrics.

Photocatalytic degradation is a promising method for alleviating water pollution by utilizing solar energy and molecular oxygen as an oxidant. In this study, we synthesized an n-p type Cu 2 O/SnS 2 composite with an S-scheme heterojunction structure and investigated its photocatalytic degradation performance on methyl orange dye. Nano-cubic Cu 2 O particles are uniformly distributed on SnS 2 nanoflowers, forming a tight S-scheme heterojunction that facilitates rapid separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers. Superoxide radicals and holes play crucial roles in the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange. Oxygen adsorption experiments reveal the adsorption behavior on the S-scheme heterojunction surface and its impact on photocatalytic performance. At a copper-to-tin ratio of 3:1, the Cu 2 O/SnS 2 composite achieved the highest catalytic activity under xenon lamp irradiation, with a methyl orange degradation rate of 97 % within 75 min and over 93 % after four cycles. The first-order reaction rate constant was significantly higher than those of Cu 2 O and SnS 2 . This study provides valuable insights into the design of efficient photocatalytic materials for environmental applications.

In this study, an efficient strategy was proposed to provide a new insight for solving the problem of decreased catalytic effect and increased usage of transition metal oxides (TMOs) catalysts used for the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP), caused by the serious agglomeration. That is to realize the uniform dispersion of one typical TMO Cu 2 O on the surface of the covalent triazine framework (CTF) which has the features of nitrogen-rich, large specific surface area and special framework structure, based on the strong coordination interaction. Therefore, first of all, new CTF/Cu 2 O composites were successfully prepared, and the results on the morphology and structure characterization could show that the Cu 2 O was uniformly dispersed on the surface of CTF. Then, the CTF/Cu 2 O composites were found to obviously decrease the high temperature decomposition (HTD) peak of AP by 50 °C, showing the good catalytic effect of CTF/Cu 2 O composites and the feasibility of proposed strategy. Finally, the thermal decomposition process of AP was facilitated by the homogeneous dispersion of Cu 2 O on the surface of CTF and the large specific surface area of CTF that favored the adsorption of gas products during the decomposition process.

Co3O4, with a high theoretical capacitance, is a promising electrode material for energy storage devices. However, the poor conductivity, low reaction activity and sluggish reaction kinetics of Co3O4 constrain its performance. Herein, light irradiation is employed to improve the electrochemical performance of Co3O4 as a cathode material in zinc ion hybrid capacitors (ZIHCs). To strengthen the favorable effect of light irradiation, Cu2O is coupled with Co3O4 to construct a heterojunction, which enhances the separation and transfer of photo-induced charge carriers, thereby improving the conductivity, reactivity and reaction kinetics of materials. Two different heterojunction structures are constructed, and their photoelectric properties and photo-assisted charging performance are investigated. The optimal Co3O4/Cu2O electrode (OC2) shows a specific capacitance of 793.0 F g−1 at a current density of 4 A g−1 under illumination, which is 77.2% higher than that in the dark and is 3.7 and 10.2 times the capacitance of pristine Co3O4 and Cu2O, respectively. The mechanism analysis provides theoretical support for the photo-enhanced electrochemical performance of OC electrodes. The constructed OC2//Zn capacitor exhibits a high energy density of 255.3 Wh kg−1 and an excellent power density of 15.9 kW kg−1 under illumination. The device also demonstrates long-term stability with a capacity retention of 93.6% after 1000 cycles.

Ternary copper oxides/reduced graphene oxide (Cu 2 O-CuO-RGO) composites were successfully synthesized in situ by a self-assembly solvothermal method in a water-ethanol mixture and used directly as the anode material for lithium ion batteries . The Cu 2 O-CuO-RGO composites delivered a reversible capacity of 842.5 mAh g −1 after 80 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g −1 , and after every 10 cycles at current densities of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 100 mA g −1 , respectively, the specific capacities of the composites were approximately 840, 723, 511, 402, 336, 224, and 703 mAh g −1 , respectively. The improved electrochemical performance of the composites is closely related to its sandwich structure, with multicomponent Cu 2 O-CuO nanospheres adhering tightly to both sides of RGO nanosheets . This structure could shorten the transport pathways for both electrons and lithium ions , prevent the RGO nanosheets from stacking, enhance the electrical conductivity and accommodate the volume expansion that occurs during prolonged cycling.

Pulsed electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (p-CO 2 RR) on copper-based catalysts can dynamically stabilize active Cu + sites and enrich surface *OH, enabling sustained CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion. However, its practical application is still constrained by: 1) low time efficiency caused by both the inherent instability of Cu + during cathodic polarization and the sluggish re-oxidation of Cu 0 to Cu + , and 2) inadequate CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion efficiency caused by the insufficient *OH coverage. To address these challenges, a Pd-modified Cu 2 O catalyst (Pd-Cu 2 O) with strong Pd-Cu electron interaction is designed. In situ experiments and theoretical studies reveal that Pd induces stable electron-deficient Cu + /Cu 0 sites, which effectively suppressing Cu + reduction during the cathodic phase and promoting Cu + regeneration during anodic phase, thus shortening the required oxidation duration. Concurrently, Pd accelerates water dissociation and enhances *OH coverage, which facilitates *CO adsorption and enhances C-C coupling. As a result, Pd-Cu 2 O achieves a Faradaic efficiency for C 2+ of 79.8 % with stable operation for over 50 h, and the time efficiency exceeding 87 %, outperforming most reported p-CO 2 RR catalysts. This work highlights the importance of rational catalyst design via electronic structure regulation for enhancing the time efficiency and C 2+ production performance for p-CO 2 RR, paving the way for efficient CO 2 -to-C 2+ conversion and practical applications.

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) serves as a key platform molecule for green photocatalytic oxidation to produce high-value-added chemicals. Addressing the critical need for efficient photocatalytic conversion of HMF to 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) under mild conditions, this study proposes and constructs a synergistic ternary composite photocatalytic system. By incorporating porous organic polymers (POPs) into oxygen-vacancy-rich MnO 2-x /Cu 2 O, the MnO 2-x @POPs@Cu 2 O composite photocatalyst was synthesized. This composite catalyst demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic performance under ambient conditions, achieving 71.8% conversion of HMF and 18.5% yield of FDCA. Results indicate that POPs not only selectively enrich reactants by forming dynamic imine bonds with HMF via its surface (–NH 2 ) functional groups, but also significantly enhance interfacial charge separation and transport through a locally embedded electric field generated by its highly negatively charged triazine framework, thereby accelerating the Mn-Cu bimetallic redox cycle. Furthermore, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed that introducing POPs effectively reduces O 2 adsorption energy, promotes molecular oxygen activation, and enhances reactive oxygen species generation. This study provides a novel strategy for designing low-cost, high-efficiency multicomponent photocatalysts for biomass refining.

The persistent accumulation of tetracycline (TC) antibiotics in aquatic environments poses severe ecological and public health risks, necessitating the development of multifunctional platforms capable of simultaneous detection and degradation. Herein, we report magnetically recoverable plasmonic Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) that integrate visible-light-driven photocatalysis with ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection. Hierarchical flower-like Fe3O4nanocrystals were employed as magnetic supports, followed by in situ growth of Cu2O nanocrystals and controlled deposition of Ag nanocrystals. The optimized composite (FCA-2) exhibited enhanced visible-light absorption (Eg= 1.86 eV), suppressed electron–hole recombination, and improved photocurrent response, which were attributed to Schottky barrier formation at the Cu2O-Ag interface and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects. Under simulated solar irradiation, FCA-2 NCs achieved 91.79% degradation of TC within 60 min, following pseudo-first-order kinetics (k = 20.37 × 10−3min−1). Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations revealed that optimal Ag loading maximized plasmonic “hot spot” density, thereby enhancing electromagnetic field intensity and SERS performance. The FCA-2 substrate enabled ultrasensitive TC detection with a limit of detection of as low as 10−10M. Moreover, the superparamagnetic Fe3O4core allowed for rapid magnetic separation and sustained performance over multiple SERS–photocatalysis cycles, with negligible signal attenuation after 30 days. This work presents a rational strategy for constructing plasmonic magnetic NCs that synergistically couple photocatalytic remediation, ultrasensitive sensing, and magnetic recyclability, offering significant potential for integrated environmental monitoring and sustainable water treatment applications.

Electrochemical CO 2 reduction to valuable multi‑carbon fuels offers a compelling route toward carbon neutrality, yet the selective conversion remains challenging because it requires the coordinated regulation of CO 2 activation, key intermediate hydrogenation, C C coupling, and the competing hydrogen evolution reaction. Herein, we propose a dual electronic regulation strategy by coupling graphene-derived carbon interfaces and oxygen vacancies into Cu 2 O to construct a G/Vo-Cu 2 O catalyst for selective CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) toward ethylene. Experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the carbon interface promotes interfacial charge transfer, enhances CO 2 adsorption/activation, improves reaction kinetics, and suppresses excessive hydrogen evolution, while oxygen vacancies create localized electron-rich centers that facilitate *CO hydrogenation toward the key *CHO intermediate. Benefiting from this complementary regulation, G/Vo-Cu 2 O balances the formation and stabilization of *CO and *CHO intermediates, thereby favoring the thermodynamically downhill *CO *CHO coupling pathway over conventional *CO *CO or *CHO *CHO dimerization. In situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy further confirms the enhanced generation of *CHO and *COCHO intermediates during CO 2 RR. As a result, the optimized G/Vo-Cu 2 O catalyst achieves a C 2 H 4 Faradaic efficiency of 62.4 ± 4.4% at −1.2 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, accompanied by suppressed H 2 and CO formation. This work highlights the importance of interface-defect dual electronic regulation in steering CO 2 RR selectivity and provides mechanistic insights for designing Cu-based catalysts toward efficient C 2+ production. Colorimetric immunoassays based on nanozyme labelling offer promising solution to rapid detect pathogenic bacteria for ensuring food safety. However, sluggish electron transfer kinetics and finite active sites of nanozyme result in unsatisfactory catalytic activity, achieving sensitive detection remains a challenge. Here, we report a Cu 2 O@CeO 2 heterostructure nanozyme with synergistic amplification effect integrating rapid charge transfer kinetics and abundant active sites to enhance the colorimetric immunoassay for sensitive detection of pathogenic bacteria. Highly active CeO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly and firmly anchored onto stable Cu 2 O nanocubes to form Cu 2 O@CeO 2 core-shell heterostructure, which effectively alleviates the aggregation of NPs and achieves extremely exposure of catalytic active sites. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that electron transfer at the heterointerface induces a strong built-in electric field, along with abundant density and high affinity for H 2 O 2 , thus enhancing the reaction kinetics and catalytic activity of the nanozyme. Benefiting from these advantages, the Cu 2 O@CeO 2 heterostructure nanozyme exhibits excellent peroxidase-like activity, which could effectively catalyze the substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to generate blue oxidized TMB. More importantly, the colorimetric immunoassay utilizing Cu 2 O@CeO 2 nanozyme as labeling probe achieves sensitive detection of Salmonella with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 26 CFU/mL and presents high specificity and stable applicability in spiked food samples. This work provides scientific insights for developing high-activity heterostructure nanozyme and advancing the exploitation of fast bacteria detection technologies to ensure food safety.

The highly selective generation of products in the photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) CO 2 reduction reaction is significantly hindered by the complex multi-electron transfer process. In this work, we designed and synthesized a Cu 2 O-Au@TiO 2 composite with a unique “core–shell–satellite” architecture via a facile wet-chemical approach. In this architecture, the Au nanocore strengthens visible-light harvesting through localized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and injects hot electrons into the mesoporous TiO 2 shell, while the outer Cu 2 O selectively exposes highly active (111) facets and establishes low-mismatch interfaces with TiO 2 . This configuration promotes directional charge migration through virus-like synaptic channels, thereby accelerating multi-electron CO 2 reduction. The cooperative mechanism of SPR enhancement, crystallographic facet matching, and dynamic charge transfer enables efficient and selective conversion of CO 2 to C 2 H 4 . Under visible-light irradiation and applied potential, the optimized composite achieves a remarkable C 2 H 4 yield of 174 ± 3.2 μmol·cm −2 ·h −1 with a sustained current density exceeding 75 mA·cm −2 . These findings highlight a rational structural design that synergistically couples plasmonic excitation with interfacial charge management, establishing a promising paradigm for developing high-performance photoelectrocatalytic systems toward solar-driven CO 2 reduction.

Addressing the escalating contamination of aquatic ecosystems by industrial dyes and heavy metals such as Cr(VI), this study presents a novel TiO 2 NTs/Cu 2 O-CuO hybrid photoelectrocatalytic system. By integrating anodic oxidation with a controlled hydrothermal process, Cu 2 O-CuO dual-phase heterojunctions were successfully anchored onto TiO 2 nanotube arrays, establishing a cascade-like band alignment for efficient charge carrier separation. The characterization confirms that the energy band structure-comprising TiO 2 NTs (3.08 eV), Cu 2 O (2.11 eV), and CuO (1.77 eV)-significantly extends visible-light absorption and suppresses the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Under combined visible-light irradiation and external bias, the system exhibits superior photoelectrocatalytic performance, achieving removal efficiencies of 96.92% for Congo red (CR), 74.87% for methylene blue (MB), and 93.64% for Cr(VI). Mechanistic insights reveal that the mineralization of pollutants is dominated by a synergistic pathway involving direct hole (h + ) oxidation and superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) derived from O 2 reduction. Furthermore, an ecological toxicity assessment using Vigna angularis seedlings demonstrates that this photoelectrocatalytic process effectively detoxifies treated wastewater, promoting plant growth and restoring ecological safety. This work provides both a robust design principle for high-performance heterojunction photoanodes and a critical framework for evaluating the real-world environmental safety of water purification technologies.
