High-quality CoWO 4 sensing electrodes (SE) were synthesized via a facile and green molten salt method to develop high-performance NH 3 sensors. XRD, SEM, and TEM were employed to systematically characterize the phase composition and morphology of the products obtained under various synthesis conditions. The superior sensing performance of the CoWO 4 -SE (prepared at 350 ℃ for 60 min) was maintained throughout the 250–450 ℃ operating range. Specifically, at an optimal temperature of 300 ℃, the sensor exhibited a high response of −66.5 mV to 100 ppm NH 3 , a sensitivity of −47 mV/decade, and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 5 ppm. Furthermore, the sensor exhibited strong performance in terms of repeatability and selectivity for common interfering gases. Electrochemical analyses, such as polarization and Tafel measurements, confirmed that the mixed potential theory operated in the sensing mechanism.

Hydrolysis catalyzed by metal oxides is an effective approach for removing carbonyl sulfide (COS) from blast furnace gas, but constructing highly active catalytic sites that function efficiently under low–temperature conditions remains a fundamental challenge. In this work, perovskite–type niobate catalysts (KNbO 3 , NaNbO 3 , and LiNbO 3 ) are synthesized via a sol–gel method and subsequently modified under a strongly reducing NH 3 atmosphere at elevated temperatures to simultaneously generate oxygen vacancies and nitrogen dopants (both substitutional and interstitial), thereby significantly enhancing their catalytic performance and H 2 S selectivity for COS hydrolysis. Among them, NH 3– treated N–KNbO 3 achieves 100% COS conversion and 100% H 2 S selectivity at 100 °C. Comprehensive physicochemical characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that NH 3 treatment achieves a “four–in–one” effect: oxygen vacancy engineering, nitrogen doping, morphology engineering, and modulation of surface active sites. This study systematically elucidates the structure–activity relationship underlying the synergistic interplay between nitrogen doping and oxygen vacancies in KNbO 3 , demonstrates the cooperative promotional role of oxygen vacancies and interstitial nitrogen during hydrolysis, and underscores the critical importance of surface reactive oxygen species and weakly basic sites. These findings provide both a theoretical foundation and practical design strategies for developing high–performance catalysts for low–temperature COS hydrolysis.

A self-supporting polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/polyaniline (PANI)/SnO 2 nanofiber membrane was fabricated. • The self-supporting structure endows the sensor with high mechanical reliability. • The p–n heterojunction constructed between PANI and SnO 2 enhances NH 3 adsorption and interfacial charge transfer. • Surface hydroxylation and the hydrogen-bond network promote the increase in the NH 3 response under high-humidity conditions. Flexible room-temperature ammonia (NH 3 ) sensors hold considerable promise for wearable environmental monitoring and industrial safety, yet their practical deployment remains constrained by insufficient sensing response, inadequate mechanical durability, and pronounced humidity interference. Herein, a flexible polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/polyaniline (PANI)/SnO 2 heterojunction sensor was fabricated. The sensor exhibited a response of 5.2 toward 100 ppm NH 3 at room temperature, approximately 2.3 times that of the pure PANI sensor, with response/recovery times of 126/296 s. Meanwhile, the sensor demonstrated excellent flexibility, with a bending-induced response variation of less than 5% and retained 95% of its initial response after 1000 folding cycles. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that, compared with pristine PANI, PANI/SnO 2 showed stronger NH 3 adsorption and greater charge transfer. Experimentally, humidity was found to exert a two-stage regulatory effect on the NH 3 sensing performance of PANI and PANI/SnO 2 sensors. Combined with ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations, the results indicate that humidity plays a dual role in the sensing process: at low humidity, competitive adsorption dominates and leads to a decreased response, whereas at high humidity, hydrogen-bond-assisted interfacial regulation promotes response recovery. This work provides an effective strategy for developing flexible PANI-based NH 3 sensors and offers new insights into humidity-dependent sensing mechanisms. For the important applications of gas identification related to specific diseases in healthcare, flexible gas sensors have attracted more attention. Among them, two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) have been known as good promising flexible gas-sensitive materials. While how to tightly attach 2D materials on flexible substrates is still challenging. Here, we propose an enhanced room-temperature flexible paper-substrate sensors based on 2D tungsten disulfide (WS 2 ) with S defects, which are facilely synthesized by chemical exfoliation and vacuum filtration method. Structure characterization shows that most of the as-prepared 2D WS 2 are within 3 layers. Spectroscopic characterization proves the existence of S defects on the surface of 2D WS 2 produced by chemical exfoliation. The room-temperature (25 °C) NH 3 gas sensitivity results show that the response intensity of 2D WS 2 with rich S defects is nearly three times higher than the highly crystalline 2D WS 2 . The results of the flexible gas sensitivity indicate the fast response and high stability of our devices in breathing detection and bending experiments. Furthermore, the devices can effectively distinguish bending stress changes and gas-sensitive response signals at the same time, realizing multifunctional sensing detection. Our work will be a reference for fabricating flexible sensors based on 2D materials.

In this study, Pt/N-Mo/TiO2and Pt/Mo/TiO2catalysts were prepared by the two-step impregnation method for catalytic CO oxidation, with the obtained Mo/TiO2pretreated or not with NH3before Pt loading. The Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2catalyst exhibited superior catalytic activity compared to Pt/1Mo/TiO2and Pt/N-xMo/TiO2(x= 0, 0.5, 2, 3, 5), indicating the essential role of N-modification of Mo/TiO2with an optimal MoO3loading. TheT90decreased from 133 °C for Pt/1Mo/TiO2to 105 °C for Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2under a feed gas consisting of 8000 ppm CO, 16% O2, 3% H2O and balanced N2. For both Pt/1Mo/TiO2and Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2catalysts, the H2O in the feed gas showed promotive effects on CO oxidation, while SO2caused some deactivation at low temperatures. Under the same feed gas composition (8000 ppm CO, 16% O2, 10% H2O, 50 ppm SO2and balanced N2) and temperature (185 °C), Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2demonstrated superior SO2resistance compared to Pt/1Mo/TiO2. CO conversion on Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2remained above 99% during a 12-h SO2resistance test, while that on Pt/1Mo/TiO2gradually decreased to 26%. Characterization results show that NH3pretreatment of 1Mo/TiO2significantly improved the dispersion of Pt and enhanced the dissociation of adsorbed H2O into highly reactive hydroxyl (*OH) species, partially explaining the better activity of Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2compared with Pt/1Mo/TiO2. H2O might promote CO oxidation by facilitating the formation of easily decomposable bicarbonate and formate intermediates. SO2impeded the Pt reduction process on Pt/1Mo/TiO2while it hardly affected that on Pt/N-1Mo/TiO2, explaining their difference in SO2resistance.

Organometal halide hybrids are an emerging class of single-component white-light emitters originating from self-trapped excitons (STEs), showing many promising attributes such as intrinsic nature and a high color-rendering index (CRI). However, one challenge is to develop rational synthetic strategies to tune the photoluminescence properties on a molecular level. Herein, for the first time, we report the isostructural postsynthetic incorporation of NH3 into organometal halide crystalline materials to enhance the STE-based warm white-light emission, affording substantially increased photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) from 5–5.5 to 60–75%. The NH3-incorporated CuI–halide hybrids are rare examples of lead-free single-component yellowish white-light emitters with high PLQYs and a high CRI of 64–72. The single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation is monitored by X-ray crystallography and density functional theory calculations, suggesting that the incoming NH3 molecules serve as spacers to isolate linear CuI–halide species at the excited state to facilitate the exciton confinement. Moreover, the precise modification process is highly reversible and selective over many common gaseous molecules or other amines. The organocopper(I) halide hybrids also feature high structural and emissive stabilities for at least 18 months in air at room temperature, affording a high potential for commercial uses in solid-state lighting. This study demonstrates a potentially general strategy to enhance the STE emission on the molecular level.

The significant decrease of acid sites caused by alkali metal poisoning is the major factor in the deactivation of commercial V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 NH 3 -SCR catalysts. In this work, the solid superacid SO 4 2− -TiO 2 modified by sulfate radicals, was selected as the catalyst support, which showed superior potassium resistance. The physicochemical properties and K-poisoning resistance of the V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /SO 4 2− -TiO 2 (VWSTi) catalyst were carried out by XRD, BET, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD, XPS, in situ DRIFTS and TG. The results pointed out that the introduction of SO 4 2− significantly increased the NH 3 -SCR catalytic activity at high temperatures, with an exceptionally high NO x conversion over 90% between 275 °C and 500 °C. When 0.5% (mass) K 2 O was doped on the catalysts, the catalytic performance of the traditional V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 (VWTi) catalyst decreased significantly, while the VWSTi catalyst could still maintain a NO x conversion over 90% in the range of 300–500 °C. The characterizations suggested that the support of SO 4 2− -TiO 2 greatly increased the number of acidic sites, thereby enhancing the adsorption capacity of the reactant NH 3 . The results above demonstrated a potential approach to achieve superior potassium resistance for NH 3 -SCR catalysts using solid superacid.

Two-dimensional (2D) perovskite PbTiO 3 is an important ferroelectric material with spontaneous polarization below Curie temperature and readily adsorbs oxygen molecules in the atmosphere, a preliminary step for NH 3 response. However, the surface of 2D PbTiO 3 lacks enough active adsorption sites for NH 3 gas. Here, 2D PbTiO 3 nanoplates (NLs) with highly polarized (0 0 1) plane was synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal strategy without templates and surfactants, and Ag + ions on (0 0 1) plane were further in-situ reduced by an impregnation method. Specially, the negatively polarized surface (ζ (zeta potential) = −22.3 mV) for (0 0 1) plane promoted the reduction of Ag + ions in AgNO 3 solution to Ag 0 nanoparticles (NPs). Where, Ag NPs with high density on (0 0 1) plane can produce spillover effect, promoting adsorption of O 2 in air and subsequent formation of O 2− . The response of PbTiO 3 -based gas sensor to 100 ppm NH 3 is 3.6 at room temperature (25 °C), while the response is improved by 2.6 times on 1.5 at% Ag/PbTiO 3 NLs with Schottky junctions. Even at 15 °C, the response reaches to 6. The ammonia sensor based on Ag/PbTiO 3 NFs is verified with high sensitivity, fast response-recovery and distinct selectivity at low operating temperature.

Selective non-catalytic reduction of NOx (SNCR) with NH 3 is commonly used in industrial facilities like circulating fluidized bed (CFB) furnaces. However, the strongly temperature-dependent de-NOx feature confines its applications in a specific temperature range (900–1050 °C). Here, we report a new strategy on using Fe-Ni-W exchanged zeolite (0.5FNW-H) as a catalyst to extend the SNCR temperature window. In the CFB reactor, a significant NOx conversion improvement ranging from 14.1% to 80.9% was achieved at 700 to 850 °C by applying the developed catalyst. Catalyst dosage of 4500 h −1 (GHSV), a particle diameter of 0.1–0.3 mm, and NH 3 injection position at the dense-phase zone were found preferred for NOx reduction with the highest efficiency of ~85% at 700 °C. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts remained stable after the circulating reactions in the CFB reactor. The developed catalyst is particularly applicable for improving the SNCR performance when the thermal power plants are operated at low loads.

This study aims to investigate the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis in reducing N loss from paddy fields, using two rice lines: a mycorrhiza-defective rice line (non-mycorrhizal) and its mycorrhizal progenitor. Two rice lines were grown in the presence of an AM fungal isolate. In this study, N loss of runoff, leaching, N 2 O emission, and NH 3 volatilization were measured, and in addition, N uptake of rice, soil aggregates, and plant available N concentration of soil. The results obtained suggest that N loss via runoff, leaching, NH 3 volatilization, and N 2 O emission of mycorrhizal rice was 11%, 8%, 6%, and 1%, lower than that of non-mycorrhizal rice, respectively. Meanwhile, mycorrhizal rice has higher biomass and plant N uptake. Our study shows that the AM symbiosis contributes to the sustainability of rice production by reducing N loss, enhancing soil aggregation and increasing plant N uptake.

To overcome the low faradaic efficiency (FE) of single Mo or Fe based electrocatalysts in nitrogen reduction reactions (NRR) due to the competition from the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), a series of bimetallic MoFe compound catalysts were prepared under an NH3 atmosphere through a facile precipitation-pyrolysis method. The formed tetravalent Mo was found to be capable of inducing better electronic interactions between the surface nitrogen species and the Fe metal groups, thus improving the FE. It was demonstrated that the prepared ternary MoFe-N catalyst exhibited a remarkable FE of 33.26 % and a high NH3 yield rate of 33.31 μg h−1 mg−1cat. for NRR, which was believed to have been caused by an obvious change in the valence of Mo that resulted in a lower HER activity. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further revealed that thermal processing under an NH3 atmosphere formed the Mo(IV) active sites in Mo–N bond, which led to a significant suppression in HER activity. Finally, through the study of the surface hydrogenation mechanism, it was concluded that the synergistic effect of the adsorbed H* and Mo active sites was the main reason for the improved performance of NRR.

The NH3–SCR process could provide cobenefits for VOCs abatement from industrial sources. Ceria-based catalysts have received considerable attention for NOx removal at low-medium temperatures. In this study, the reaction behaviors of the simultaneous control of NOx and methanol over the Sb0.5CeZr2Ox catalyst were investigated. It was found that the presence of methanol reduced NOx conversion at low temperatures, while the methanol mineralization rate was promoted in the SCR reaction environment. This effect weakened as the temperature increased, and both NOx and methanol could be effectively removed (with efficiencies more than 90%) within 250–350 °C at a CH3OH/NO ratio of no more than 1:1. NO adsorption and oxidation were greatly suppressed by methanol, thereby inhibiting the SCR reaction via the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism. Meanwhile, the formation of formamide via NH3 and intermediates of methanol oxidation was also responsible for the deactivation effect on the SCR reaction at low temperatures. The presence of NO was found to be the main reason for enhanced methanol deep oxidation as NO can promote the rehealing process of active oxygen species.
