Fluorescent poly(amide-imide)s are promising materials for use in photonics due to their controllable optical properties and excellent flexibility. Although unconventional fluorescent polymers have been flourishing recently, the fluorescence of aliphatic poly(amide-imide)s has never been realized until now. Their poor solubility and intolerance to reactive groups during synthesis prohibit access for the modification of poly(amide-imide)s. Here, we synthesize a functional thiolactone-maleimide monomer via copper(I)-catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition and employ a strategy combining aminolysis of thiolactones and amine-maleimide Michael addition for the synthesis of fluorescent aliphatic poly(amide-imide)s with 2-aminosuccinimide fluorophores. Moreover, in situ generated thiols enable the poly(amide-imide)s to undergo facile PEGylation via a thiol–methacrylate Michael addition reaction to accomplish excellent solubility in organic solvents and in water.

The aim of this study was to prepare a promising drug carrier for treatment of lung cancer. The self-assembly nanoparticles of SDP-GEM/PEI-PEG-anti-EGFR with chemotherapeutic drug of gemcitabine (GEM), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided- imaging and targeting of anti- Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (anti-EGFR) were designed. The imaging capacity, targeting feasibility and anti-tumor function were evaluated respectively. SDP-GEM/PEI-PEG-anti-EGFR exhibited contrast enhancement under T2 Weight Image (T2WI) and a liner relationship was found between the concentration and relaxation rate of R2 and R2* in vitro . With the targeting of anti-EGFR, the endocytosis of nanoparticles increased significantly, which effectively killed lung cancer cells in vitro , and importantly it can be accurately delivered to tumor site within 3 h in vivo . Prolonged lifetime and smaller tumor volume demonstrated that SDP-GEM/PEI-PEG-anti-EGFR efficiently inhibited tumor growth in vivo . Therefore, SDP-GEM/PEI-PEG-anti-EGFR was an effective and safe drug carrier, which had a great potential application in MRI-guided lung cancer therapy.

Slide-ring hydrogels have been shown to have exceptional toughness and stretchability. Current designs typically rely on polyrotaxane architectures of cyclodextrin (CD) macrocycles treaded onto polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains. The use of alternative macrocycles to prepare slide-ring hydrogels remains largely unexplored. In this study, we present a cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) slide-ring hydrogel prepared from multiblock PEG polymers segmented with guest moieties of varying affinity for binding to CB[7]. Following threading with allyl-modified CB[7] to form pseudopolyrotaxane structures, the side-chains are then covalently cross-linked to yield the slide-ring architecture. The resulting hydrogels exhibit unique mechanical properties modulated by host–guest binding affinity and dynamics. Given the exceptional molecular recognition capabilities of the CB[n] family of macrocycles for diverse guests, using these as alternatives to CDs offers an opportunity to expand the design space for slide-ring hydrogel architectures.

Polyethylene glycolated (PEGylated)curcumin-grafted-chitosan (PCC) conjugates were synthesized with three PEG/chitosan feed molar ratios (1/5, 1/7.5, and 1/10), namely PCC1, PCC2 and PCC3. Chemical structures of these conjugates were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). The degrees of substitution (DS) of PEG were 0.75%, 0.45% and 0.33%, respectively, for PCC1, PCC2 and PCC3by1H NMR analysis. Self-assembled PCC nanoparticles (NPs) were spherical as observed in transmission electron microscope images. Mitoxantrone (MTO)-loaded PCC NPs were prepared to analyze the particle size, zeta potential, drug loading, drug release and in vitro cytotoxicity. The MTO-loaded PCC3 NP (DS = 0.33%) possessed the smallest size (~183.1 nm), highest zeta potential (~+34.0 mV) and the largest loading capacity of curcumin (CUR, ~16.1%) and MTO (~8.30%). The release results showed that MTO-loaded PCC3 NP demonstrated the lowest percentage of MTO release and increased as pH decreased, but the CUR release could only be detected at pH 4.0. In the cytotoxicity study, MTO-loaded PCC3 NP displayed the highest cytotoxicity in HepG2 cell line and the best synergistic effect among the tested NPs. Our results suggest that the DS of PEG has impacts on the structures and functions of PCC NPs: the smaller DS of PEG was associated with the smaller size, the higher zeta potential, the slower drug release, and the higher cytotoxicity of NPs.Keywords:curcumin;mitoxantrone;synergism;PEG;chitosan nanoparticles

Multifunctional nanocomposites integrating mesoporous and luminescence properties into a single entity are synthesized via a facile and effective approach. Oleic acid capped β-NaYF4:Ce3+/Tb3+ nanoparticles (NPs) are transferred into aqueous solution by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactants, and further encapsulated with uniform mesoporous silica shell followed by the surface modification with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), leading to the formation of water-dispersible and biocompatible core–shell structured β-NaYF4:Ce3+/Tb3+@mSiO2-PEG (denoted as NPs@mSiO2-PEG) nanospheres. The as-synthesized nanospheres show a typical mesoporous structure and a green emission under UV irradiation. Doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), a widely used anti-cancer drug, is used as a model drug to evaluate the loading and controlled release behaviors of the NPs@mSiO2-PEG in phosphoric acidic buffer solutions (PBS) at different pH values (pH = 7.4 and 5.0). The composite carriers provide a pH-sensitive drug release pattern and the drug releases faster under lower pH value. The endocytosis process of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelled nanospheres is characterized using flow cytometry and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) against A549 cells. The in vitro cytotoxic effect against A549 cells of the DOX-loaded carriers is investigated in detail. In addition, the extent of drug release can be monitored by the variation of photoluminescence (PL) intensity of β-NaYF4:Ce3+/Tb3+. Considering the good biocompatibility and pH-dependent drug release pattern, such core–shell structured luminescent NPs@mSiO2-PEG nanospheres have potential applications in controlled drug delivery.

Breast cancer has been the first killer among women. In this study, combretastatin A-4 (CA-4) loaded 5-amino acid peptide Ala-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly (APRPG) modified PEG-PDLLA mixed micelles was developed to target tumor neovasculature for breast cancer therapy. CA-4 is an effective vascular disrupting agent. The APRPG-modified PEG-PDLLA polymer was successfully synthesized and thin-film hydration method was used to prepare APRPG-PEG-PDLLA/MPEG-PDLLA mixed micelles. Drug loading capacity (DL), encapsulation efficiency (EE), and the optimized ratio of APRPG-PEG-PDLLA: MPEG-PDLLA for efficient drug loading was investigated. The particle size, zeta potential, morphology, and the crystallographic study were carried out to characterize the micelles. In vitro release study revealed a sustained release of CA-4 from the mixed micelles while compared to free CA-4. Moreover, the cytotoxicity data of blank and drug loaded mixed micelles suggested that the APRPG-PEG-PDLLA/MPEG-PDLLA mixed micelles were safe drug carriers and the encapsulated CA-4 remained potent antitumor effect. The cellular uptake study and the in vivo imaging and biodistribution study demonstrated that the APRPG peptide modified mixed micelles has the higher cellular uptake efficiency and could significantly facilitate the accumulation at tumor site. Furthermore, the micelles were slowly extravasated from blood vessels and inhibited embryonic angiogenesis in the transgenic zebrafish model. Consequently, the CA-4 loaded APRPG-PEG-PDLLA/MPEG-PDLLA mixed micelles group demonstrated a significant inhibition of tumor growth in 4T1 breast cancer model. In short, the CA-4 loaded APRPG-PEG-PDLLA/MPEG-PDLLA mixed micelles might have great potential for breast cancer therapy.

Anaerobic digestate, a typical by-product of large-scale biogas plants, faces mounting disposal pressure due to the rapid increase in organic solid waste. In this study, an iron-carbon composite was produced from digestate through polyethylene glycol (PEG)-assisted iron modification followed by low-temperature carbonization. The resulting material exhibited a mesoporous texture, oxygen-containing surface functionalities, and Fe 3 O 4 /Fe 3 C domains, enabling efficient removal of Congo red in batch systems. Removal was favored under mildly acidic conditions. At pH 4 and 298 K, the maximum experimentally observed equilibrium uptake reached 1267.35 mg·g −1 at high initial concentration, and removal efficiencies approached 99% under the tested conditions. The adsorbent retained more than 95% of its initial removal performance after five regeneration cycles. Kinetic and equilibrium analyses, together with FTIR/XPS and post-adsorption characterization, support that uptake involves Fe-associated interactions, electrostatic effects, and hydrogen bonding, with additional high-coverage accumulation contributing at elevated concentrations. Overall, this work demonstrates a practical route to valorize anaerobic digestate into a reusable adsorbent for removing azo dyes from wastewater. Graphical Valorizing anaerobic digestate into a magnetically recoverable Fe-C adsorbent enables efficient Congo red removal: near-complete decolorization at pH 4, 298 K, maximum observed q e 1267.35 mg·g −1 , and > 95% performance after 5 cycles. A single-step, low-temperature process offers a scalable, low-cost wastewater solution.

Postoperative immunosuppression, which is closely associated with the oxidative-stress-driven expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs), increases susceptibility to severe postoperative outcomes, including infectious complications, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and tumor progression. Here, we report a zirconium-based metal–organic framework (MOF) cascade nanozyme, designated “Pt@PCN-224-Fe”, coated with poly(ethylene glycol) (Pt@FeMOF–PEG) that simultaneously mimics superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) to neutralize excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). Mechanistically, scavenging ROS reactivates the PI3K–AKT–mTOR signaling axis, suppresses Foxp3 expression, and thereby inhibits both the differentiation of naı̈ve CD4+ T cells into Tregs under Treg-polarizing conditions and their TGF-β1 secretion in vitro. In a murine model of surgical trauma, the single intraperitoneal administration of Pt@FeMOF–PEG reversed immunosuppression within 72 h, evident as a reduced frequency of Tregs, expanded Th17 cells, normalized CD4+/CD8+ ratio, and suppressed M2 macrophage polarization (all p < 0.05). Concurrently, proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ) increased, whereas anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4, IL-10) decreased, indicating the systemic reinvigoration of the innate and adaptive immunity. The nanozyme showed excellent biocompatibility, with negligible hemolysis (<5%), no histological organ damage, and minimal systemic toxicity. In this work, we have developed a dual-enzyme-mimicking nanozyme (Pt@FeMOF–PEG) that precisely targets the ROS–PI3K–Treg axis in a single-dose strategy to reverse postoperative immune dysfunction, thus addressing a long-unmet clinical requirement for surgical recovery.

Phase change materials (PCMs) possess exceptional energy storage capacity, rendering them highly attractive for latent heat storage and thermal management applications. However, their deployment is constrained by inherent limitations, including susceptibility to leakage and poor shape stability. To overcome these issues, polyimide aerogel (PIA) was selected as the support substrate due to its low density and excellent mechanical properties. By optimizing the freezing methods of the precursor and imidization time, PI aerogel reached the maximum compressive strength of 400 kPa, while having excellent thermal insulation performance. Subsequently, polyethylene glycol (PEG) was encapsulated within PIA to form PIA@PEG shape-stabilized PCMs (SSPCMs). The PIA@PEG exhibited excellent shape stability, thermal cycling stability, latent thermal storage capacity of 161.4 J/g, and superior solar–thermal conversion performance of 83.7%. Semi-filled PIA@PEG composites with bilayer structure were developed. The metal fighter jet model, coated with bilayer PIA@PEG composites, exhibited outstanding infrared stealth and thermal camouflage performance. These results confirm that PIA@PEG composites have great potential as infrared stealth materials.

Herein, we designed a series of well-defined bottlebrush-like macromolecules with short and densely grafted poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side chains through several controlled radical polymerization methods to prepare solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). The PEO side chains can work as sensational conductors for lithium salt. Moreover, these macromolecules own lithium cations linked on the backbone, which can facilitate the transport of Li ions and thus improve the lithium-ion transference number. The prepared SPE exhibits a considerable ion conductivity of 4.49 × 10–5 S cm–1 at 30 °C owing to its specific structure. Furthermore, the high capacity and excellent cycle performance demonstrate the foreseeable application of the obtained electrolyte in the lithium-ion battery.

In this paper, the effects of surfactants such as PEG, CTAB and their combination (PEG: CTAB) on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of Ni-P-Si 3 N 4 composite coating were systematically studied. The electrochemical test shows that adding PEG or CTAB can reduce the coating defects and improve the corrosion resistance. When PEG and CTAB are used in combination, they show synergistic effect, which further enhances the compactness and corrosion protection of the coating. Among them, when the composite ratio is 3:1 (CTAB: PEG), the corrosion current density is significantly reduced, and the stability of the coating in corrosive medium is improved.

A hierarchical PEG-PA/Fe 3 O 4 @PNF composite membrane was fabricated for aged nanoplastics removal. • Synergistic surface sieving and depth adsorption achieve 99.89% removal of aged nanoplastics. • Fe 3 O 4 provides strong coordination sites for aged nanoplastics. Aged nanoplastics, characterized by their small size, abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, are high colloidal stability. These features make them difficult to remove by conventional membrane processes. Efficient removal usually requires membranes with very small pore sizes. This requirement causes a severe permeability and selectivity trade-off. Herein, a hierarchical PEG-PA/Fe 3 O 4 @PNF composite membrane was rationally engineered via electrospinning coupled with interfacial polymerization to achieve efficient removal of aged polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs). The membrane features a three-layer architecture consisting of a PEG-modified polyamide (PEG-PA) selective layer, a Fe 3 O 4 -loaded polyacrylonitrile nanofibrous (Fe 3 O 4 @PNF) adsorption layer, and a nonwoven support, enabling the integration of surface sieving and depth adsorption within a single membrane. PEG modification markedly improved surface hydrophilicity, reducing the water contact angle from 28.07° to 9.84%. As a result, water flux increased by 54.2% while simultaneously enhancing antifouling performance. Meanwhile, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles introduced abundant adsorption sites that effectively captured aged PSNPs through specific coordination interactions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further supported this proposed mechanism. Benefiting from the synergistic coupling of selective sieving and adsorption, the optimized membrane achieved an aged PSNP removal efficiency of 99.89% while maintaining a water flux of approximately 1142–1059 L m −2 h −1 at 0.4 MPa (the pure-water flux is 1199 L m −2 h −1 under the same pressure). Moreover, the membrane maintained a high removal efficiency under neutral and alkaline conditions (pH 7–11), exhibited good tolerance toward common inorganic ions except phosphate, and demonstrated satisfactory reusability. This study presents an effective strategy for integrating selective separation and targeted adsorption into thin-film composite membranes. The proposed design also provides new insights into the efficient remediation of aged nanoplastics with broad size distributions in complex aqueous environments.
