Polyolefin plastics, though highly resistant to degradation due to their thermodynamic stability and chemical inertness, can be catalytically depolymerized into liquid fuels, offering a promising route to mitigate white pollution and fossil fuel dependency. Here, a sustainable catalytic route for closed-loop polyolefin upcycling is achieved using a bifunctional Sn1W9/γ-Al2O3 catalyst that integrates redox and acidic functionalities within a self-regenerative hydrogen relay cycle. The optimized interface between Sn and W species promotes simultaneous C-H dehydrogenation and C-C metathesis via dynamic Sn-H ↔ W-OH coupling, enabling quantitative conversion of polypropylene at 250 o C within 1 hour and selective production of C5-C22 liquid hydrocarbons (95.0%). Structural, spectroscopic, and kinetic analyses identify hydroxylated W 5+ -OH sites as the principal active centers, stabilized by Sn-mediated hydrogen spillover. The catalyst achieves exceptional stability and reusability across multiple degradation cycles and diverse commercial plastics. Life cycle and techno-economic assessments reveal 16-fold enhanced thermal efficiency, > 85% solvent recyclability, and a carbon footprint of 7.3 kg CO2 e•kg⁻¹surpassing benchmark catalysts in both sustainability and energy utilization. This self-sustaining redox-hydroxyl loop establishes a scalable, low-carbon paradigm for circular plastic valorization. Under mild conditions, the system delivers excellent degradation performance and stability, demonstrating scalability for kilogram-scale recovery.

Conventional photocatalytic systems rely on light irradiation to activate catalytic reactions, which significantly limits their practical applicability under real environmental conditions. Herein, a W/S codoped Bi2O4 oxysulfide (WBiOS) is developed for pollutant reduction under dark conditions. By introducing the W cation and S anion, the electronic structure of Bi2O4 is reconstructed, accompanied by the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies (Ov) and dual Bi3+/5+ and W4+/6+ redox couples. The Bi3+/5+ and W4+/6+ species establish efficient electron-transfer pathways, while the Ov acts as an electron-trapping center and active sites, thereby accelerating electron transport and surface reaction kinetics. Benefiting from these synergistic effects, optimized WBiOS-2 with n(Bi3+)/n(Bi3+ + Bi5+) (39.46%) and n(W4+)/n(W4+ + W6+) (30.64%) exhibits the largest electrochemically active surface area (1.87 mF cm–2). It achieves complete reduction of 100 mL of 20 ppm 4-nitrophenol, methylene blue, nitro compounds, and Cr(VI) within 16, 8, 6, and 14 min, respectively, using NaBH4 as the reducing agent, with corresponding kinetic rate constants of 0.17, 0.13, 0.18, and 0.19 min–1, respectively. WBiOS-2 demonstrates sustained performance toward mixed pollutants across a wide pH range and maintains structural stability during cyclic operation. This work provides a promising strategy for the design of oxysulfide catalysts for environmental remediation.

A unique “Ce→W→Ni” electronic conjugation channel is constructed. • Theoretical calculations confirm an optimized electronic structure and the d -band center. • In situ Raman results reveal the formation of the “H-down” configuration. • The as-prepared Ce-Fe(Ni)WO 4 /NF exhibits an outstanding HER activity. Orbital hybridization between metal compounds can modulate the electronic structure and d -band center of catalysts to optimize the adsorption energy barriers of reaction intermediates, consequently efficiently regulating catalytic performance. Herein, a Ce and Ni co-doped iron tungstate nanosheet on nickel foam (Ce-Fe(Ni)WO 4 /NF) is rationally designed as an efficient electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In situ Raman results reveal that the evolution of interfacial water promotes the formation of the “H-down” configuration to expedite the Volmer process for proton generation at the interface. Theoretical calculations confirm that the Ce/Ni co-doping effectively optimizes the electronic structure and the d -band center. Specifically, a unique “Ce→W→Ni” electronic conjugation channel is constructed to regulate the spin state of Ni, and Ni and Ce act as the dual catalytically active sites for favorable intermediate adsorption (Ce for water/hydroxy adsorption and Ni for hydrogen adsorption), thereby lowering the kinetic barrier of HER. Thus, the as-prepared Ce-Fe(Ni)WO 4 /NF exhibits an outstanding HER activity with a low overpotential of 63 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and stable operation for 120 h at 250 mA cm −2 . Moreover, Ce-Fe(Ni)WO 4 /NF also possesses bifunctional catalytic activity for the urea oxidation reaction (UOR), offering a promising route toward low-energy-consumption hydrogen production. This work provides new insights and a theoretical basis for designing high-performance alkaline HER electrocatalysts via multi-element electronic conjugation. This study proposed a two-step carbothermal reduction-carburization method for preparing high-quality (Ti, W)C solid solution powders. Through separating the carbothermal reduction deoxygenation from the carburization and solid solution process, stepwise precise control was achieved. Using TiO 2 , WO 3 , and carbon black as raw materials, deoxygenation and most of the solid solution reactions were first completed at 1500 °C under a carbon-deficient condition. Subsequently, precise carbon supplementation was conducted, followed by final carburization and solid solution at 1550 °C. The resulting powders possessed excellent characteristics including elevated purity, fine grain size, homogeneous morphology, and optimal dispersibility. High-frequency spark plasma sintering (HF-SPS) was employed subsequently to fabricate (Ti, W)C-based cermets. A systematic elucidation of the reaction mechanisms in the two-step method was conducted, and the effects of W content on the powder characteristics as well as the microstructure and properties of cermets were explored. Results demonstrated that the grain size of the synthesized powders gradually decreased as W content increased, and (Ti 0.69 , W 0.31 )C showed the finest average grain size (0.38 ± 0.12 μm). Increasing W led to a decline in both hardness and fracture toughness ( K IC ) of cermets. Cermet sintered from (Ti 0.88 , W 0.12 )C powder demonstrated optimal mechanical properties, and possessed a hardness of 2030 ± 21 HV 30 and a K IC of 10.35 ± 0.31 MPa m 1/2 , achieving an excellent combination of hardness and toughness.

Alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is a key technology for scalable green hydrogen production. However, its widespread adoption is hampered by the anode's primary challenge—the slow kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). While transition metal-based materials can improve in activity through doping and morphology control, achieving long-term stability remains challenging. Doping with high-valence metals such as tungsten can modulate electronic structure, facilitate the formation of active high-valence iron, and improve OER activity. In this study, a W-doped FeCo catalyst supported on nickel foam (W–FeCo–NF) was fabricated via a two-stage hydrothermal method. The material showed an overpotential of 347 mV at 100 mA cm −2 (1 M KOH). Moreover, it demonstrated remarkable durability, maintaining stable operation for over 400 h at 200 mA cm −2 in the electrolyzer. This work offers a viable pathway to efficient, durable, and cost-effective OER electrocatalysts, contributing to the advancement of green hydrogen technologies.

The development of lightweight, low-cost, and high-performance non-precious metal electrocatalytic electrodes is critical to advancing the practical implementation of methanol and urea oxidation reactions (MOR and UOR) in next-generation energy conversion systems. Herein, we reported a facile synthesis of a W-Se co-modified porous Ni/Cu paper electrode (W-NiSe/Cup) via synchronous pulse electrodeposition onto filter paper-derived porous Cu foil. The hierarchical porosity and high specific surface area originated from the paper template, while synergistic electronic modulation among Ni, W, and Se enhanced intrinsic catalytic activity. At 0.8 V, the W-NiSe/Cupelectrode delivered current densities of 298 mA·cm−2(MOR) and 305 mA·cm−2(UOR) with a lower-mass loading, representing 1.29-fold and 1.34-fold enhancements over the Ni/Cupelectrode. Furthermore, the electrode exhibited exceptional durability: under chronopotentiometry operation at 100 mA·cm−2in a 6-fold-concentrated electrolyte (6 M KOH + 3.0 M CH3OH + 1.98 M CO(NH2)2), the operating potentials retained 95.74% (MOR) and 118.05% (UOR) of their initial values after 9 h. This study offers a novel strategy for designing lightweight non-precious metal catalytic electrodes for portable energy devices and also verifies the broad potential of biomass templates in constructing advanced energy electrocatalytic materials.

In this work, a series of Ni 1-x M x (M = Cr, Mo, W) nanoparticles (NPs) have been successfully synthesized via a simple surfactant-aided co-reduction method and employed as highly efficient and cost effective catalysts for hydrogen generation from aqueous solution of ammonia borane (NH 3 BH 3 , AB) at room temperature . It is found that the as-synthesized NiM NPs (M = Cr, Mo, W) exhibit much higher catalytic performance for the hydrolysis of AB as compared to that of pure Ni NPs. In addition, among all the Ni 1-x M x (M = Cr, Mo, W) NPs, the Ni 0.9 Cr 0.1 , Ni 0.9 Mo 0.1 , and Ni 0.8 W 0.2 NPs show the highest catalytic activities with the turnover frequency (TOF) values of 10.7, 27.3 and 25.0 mol H 2 (mol metal min) −1 , respectively. Remarkably, these optimized NiM catalysts can also perform efficiently in the hydrolysis of hydrazine borane (N 2 H 4 BH 3 , HB). The present low-cost and high-performance of the NiM catalysts system may encourage the practical application of AB and HB as the promising chemical hydrogen storage materials .

Corosolic acid (CA) is a potent α-glucosidase inhibitor, but its application is limited by poor aqueous solubility and low bioaccessibility. In this study, a CA-stabilized water-in-oil (W/O) Pickering emulsion was proposed as a self-assembled delivery strategy to overcome these limitations. The emulsion markedly improved the gastrointestinal performance of CA, leading to a substantially higher bioaccessibility (28.54%) compared with crystalline CA (6.48%). Enzyme kinetic analysis for CA emulsion showed an apparent non-competitive inhibition mode and enhanced α-glucosidase inhibition with a reduced K i and IC 50 . Molecular dynamics simulations supported stable binding interactions consistent with an allosteric inhibition mechanism. Overall, this work demonstrates that structuring CA into a W/O Pickering emulsion can simultaneously improve its bioaccessibility and inhibitory efficiency, providing a conceptual framework for enhancing the functionality of poorly soluble triterpenoids.

The removal of naphthalene is important but deficient, so that the available V-W/Ti catalysts (1.0 wt% V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 ) were prepared for its efficient abatement in this work. Especially, influences of different existence status of vanadium species on naphthalene elimination were investigated via changing the pH value of precursor solution. With the increase of precursor solution acidity, more highly polymeric vanadium species were formed on the catalyst surface. The redox capability was enhanced markedly as a consequence of the stronger electron transfer between V/W and Ti that induced more surface active oxygen and V 5+ , whereas the catalytic activity was obviously boosted and almost 90 % conversion of naphthalene was achieved at 293 °C. Moreover, the weaker chemisorption between naphthalene and V-W/Ti catalyst allowed the deeper conversion to CO x . GC–MS manifested that naphthalene seemed to be an organic component that was difficult to be totally degraded. Naphthalene oxidation was in the following pathway of naphthalene → 1,4-naphthoquinone → phthalic anhydride → phthalates → benzene → benzoquinone → maleic anhydride → CO x /H 2 O. The opening of aromatic ring in phthalic anhydride and benzene ring in benzene were proven to be the rate-controlling step based on in-situ DRIFTS results. The key of naphthalene oxidation was the complete degradation of various intermediates.

Electrode materials typically suffer from an inherent trade-off between arc erosion resistance and electrical conductivity. In this work, Cu-10W composites containing of 0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% graphene (Gr) was fabricated via near-net-shape hot isostatic pressing (HIP), and their microstructures and properties were systematically investigated. Among these composites, the Cu-10W-0.1Gr composite exhibited the most balanced performance, achieving a relative density of 98.57%, tensile strength of 317 MPa, elongation of 22.2%, and electrical conductivity of 87.6%IACS. Microstructural analysis revealed that the mechanical and electrical enhancements mainly originated from the dispersion strengthening induced by nano-sized W particles dispersed within the Cu matrix, combined with the optimization of the conductive network by Gr located at grain boundaries. Benefiting from the high electrical conductivity and low work function of Gr, under a 30 V DC and 35 A test condition, the addition of a 0.5wt.%Gr reduced mass loss and erosion rate by up to 24.0%, decreased average arc energy by up to 47.9%, effectively suppressed welding force, and maintained stable contact resistance. This work mitigates the longstanding strength-conductivity dilemma in Cu-based electrode materials, and provides a viable design strategy for high-performance electrical contact composites.

Tungsten (W) is regarded as a key candidate material for extreme service environments. However, its relatively high ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) and rapid grain growth at elevated temperatures have long restricted its engineering applications. In present work, an integrated route combining bottom‑up and top‑down approaches was employed. Ultrafine W-1 wt.% La 2 O 3 powders were synthesized via a novel carbothermic pre-reduction followed by hydrogen deep deoxidation process. Subsequent hydrogen pre-sintering and spark plasma sintering (SPS) enabled rapid densification and controlled deformation at a relatively low temperature, producing a fine-grained W alloy (0.77 μm) with distinct substructural features. Nanoscale La 2 O 3 particles were uniformly distributed throughout the matrix. During high-pressure SPS, the formation of a weak γ-fiber texture ({111}//ND) promoted cooperative activity among multiple {111} 〈110〉 primary slip systems. La 2 O 3 particles located at grain boundaries effectively suppressed boundary migration through Zener pinning, while intragranular nanoparticles coordinated dislocation motion via combined Orowan bypassing and shearing mechanisms. The multiscale structural synergy enabled a favorable strength-ductility balance between 200 and 600 °C. The alloy exhibits noticeable plastic deformation at 200 °C, with distinct yielding (972.3 MPa) and uniform strain‑hardening behavior. This study elucidates the coupling among grain refinement strengthening, Orowan strengthening and dislocation forest hardening, thus providing a new design strategy for achieving high-temperature microstructural stability and mechanical reliability in W alloys.

In recent years, developing highly active non-noble metal catalysts for biomass hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) to achieve value-added conversion has attracted significant attention. However, major challenges remain in catalyst efficiency, stability, and the precise control of reaction pathways. In this study, a synergistic Ni-W-Cu mixed metal oxide (MMO) catalyst was prepared from LDH precursors via a stepwise "ion exchange-active site introduction" strategy. Under optimized conditions (240 ℃, 2.5 MPa H 2 , 2.5 h), the catalyst achieved complete cellulose conversion with 72% ethylene glycol selectivity. Even after five reuse cycles, it retained 95.4% conversion and 62% selectivity. Characterization demonstrated that appropriate Cu loading promoted Ni-Cu alloying and modulated Ni electronic structure, which induced abundant W 6 + /W 4+ species and oxygen vacancies (O V ). In this architecture, W 6+ provides Lewis acidity, while W 4+ couples tightly with O V , thereby synergistically enhancing the catalyst's hydrogenation capability and bond-cleavage ability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the strong interaction between W and Cu constructs highly efficient adsorption sites, enabling the precise catalysis of C-O bond scission. These findings suggest that tailoring the W-Cu interplay offers a viable strategy for directing product selectivity. By engineering a stable, multifunctional catalyst for biomass conversion, this study provides a new strategy for constructing high-performance HDO catalysts.
