The efficient removal of antibiotics from aquatic environments is crucial to safeguard both ecosystems and human health. Herein, silk fibroin/Fe 2 O 3 (SF/Fe 2 O 3 ) aerogel was fabricated from silk wastes and nano-sized Fe 2 O 3 powders through freeze-casting and vacuum freeze-drying strategy. The resulting SF/Fe 2 O 3 aerogel showed three-dimensional honeycomb-like porous structures. Benefiting from its porous structures and abundant active sites, SF/Fe 2 O 3 aerogel exhibited outstanding adsorption performance toward tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), enabling high-value recycling of silk wastes. Systematic studies on the effects of Fe 2 O 3 weight percentages, initial TCH concentrations, adsorbent dosages, and pH values revealed that the aerogel achieved a high removal efficiency of 87.47% at pH 5. The adsorption kinetic and isothermal analyses demonstrated that the adsorption process of SF/Fe 2 O 3 aerogel followed a pseudo-first-order adsorption kinetic model with R 2 = 0.9726 and a Freundlich model with R 2 = 0.9682, suggesting spontaneous heterogeneous multilayer physisorption. The adsorption mechanism was dominated by electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, π–π interactions, cation bridging, and hydrophobic forces between SF/Fe 2 O 3 aerogel and TCH. This study provides a green and sustainable route for the utilization of silk wastes and offers a promising strategy for antibiotic removal in aquatic environments.

This study investigates the synergistic flame-retardant and smoke-suppression effects of an aluminum hydroxide/antimony pentoxide (ATH/Sb 2 O 5 ) composite in epoxy-modified polysulfide rubber (PSR), and explores the underlying synergistic mechanism. Compared to PSR containing ATH or Sb 2 O 5 alone, the ATH/Sb 2 O 5 -PSR composite demonstrates a significantly higher limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 27.7%, a lower peak heat release rate (pHRR) of 208.9 kW/m 2 , and a reduced total smoke release (TSR) of 174.9 m 2 /m 2 . This synergy not only effectively enhances the flame retardancy of PSR but also suppresses the release of toxic gases, notably SO 2 .

In the process of noise pollution control, the limitation of simply relying on increasing the thickness of the sound-absorbing layer has been recognized. Aerogel, due to its lightweight and multifunctional characteristics, has become a research hotspot. However, how to optimize the structure of aerogels to balance sound-absorption performance with other key characteristics remains an important research direction. In this study, by in situ combining zinc borate (ZB) nanoparticles and directional freezing technology, the optimal incorporation amount of nanocellulose (CNC) was explored, and CNC/ZB/carboxymethyl chitosan aerogel with honeycomb pore structure and excellent sound absorption effect was prepared. In order to expand its application in complex scenes, its antibacterial and flame retardant properties were further studied. The experiments demonstrated that the optimized incorporation of CNC not only enhanced the sound-absorbing performance (with the peak of sound absorption coefficient in the 500–1500 Hz frequency band approaching 1), but also maintained an antibacterial rate of over 97% and a combustion rate as low as 0.76 mm s −1 . This sound-absorbing aerogel integrates efficient sound absorption, mechanical strength and toughness, as well as antibacterial and flame-retardant properties, providing a new material design concept for addressing environmental noise and health and safety issues.

This study presents a stress-induced pore rupture strategy for decoupling cellular architecture from matrix properties in microcellular polyurethane elastomers. Controlled mechanical compression was applied to a single formulation to tune open porosity (14%–67%) while preserving matrix chemistry and nanoscale morphology, as verified by FTIR, XRD, and SAXS analysis. In situ CT imaging revealed distinct deformation mechanisms: closed-cell structures deformed through gradual pore compression dominated by gas-spring effects, whereas open-cell networks exhibited immediate strut reorientation and extensive compaction governed by solid matrix deformation. Quantitative analysis showed that cellular deformation accounted for 81.2%–86.8% of total strain in open-cell foams, compared with 69.2%–74.1% in closed-cell systems. Increasing open porosity reduced stiffness by 27% but enhanced energy dissipation by 63%. Digital image correlation further demonstrated localized strain in closed-cell foams and uniform stress redistribution in open-cell architectures. Vibration testing revealed complementary performance, with high-porosity foams suppressing resonance through viscous damping and low-porosity foams providing superior high-frequency isolation. This work establishes microstructure-guided design principles for programming dynamic mechanical properties in polymer foams, offering a pathway toward lightweight material for vibration control and impact protection.

Due to the low notched impact strength, poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) with excellent toughness and good thermal properties have been attracted more attention. This study synthesized Poly(trimethylene terephthalate/isophthalate/carbonate) (PTTIC) copolymer with excellent notch impact strength from the green dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as the comonomer. The PTTIC copolymers with various DMC contents were synthesized via a two-step melt polycondensation method. Their structure, thermal properties, crystallization behavior, mechanical properties, and rheological properties were systematically investigated. Mechanical property tests indicated that the introduction of DMC achieved the transformation of the material from “strong and brittle” to “resilient and durable”. PTTIC 30% achieved the optimization of toughness and its elongation at break and notched impact strength were greatly enhanced compared with pure PTTI. Rheological and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed that PTTIC 30% exhibited a unique viscoelastic balance behavior in the melt state, corresponding to its optimized impact resistance. This study verified the feasibility of copolymerization modification of PTTI using the green monomer DMC, and the introduction of DMC effectively improves the comprehensive toughness of the material. This work provides a valuable material basis and theoretical support for its application in high-value-added fields such as engineering plastics.

Regulating polymer matrix composition is an effective yet underexplored strategy for enhancing the performance of ultrafiltration membranes. In this study, poly(sulfuric ester) copolymer (PSFEc) was employed as the membrane matrix material, and a series of ultrafiltration membranes with PSFEc contents ranging from 15 to 18 wt% were fabricated via non-solvent induced phase separation. The effects of PSFEc content on membrane morphology, surface properties, separation performance, and antifouling behavior were systematically investigated. The results reveal that increasing PSFEc content induces pronounced changes in membrane microstructure and surface characteristics, leading to simultaneous enhancement of humic acid rejection and antifouling performance. The optimized PSFEc-18 membrane achieved a high humic acid rejection of 89.6% and a flux recovery ratio of 85.3%. Furthermore, during practical surface water filtration tests, the PSFEc-18 membrane exhibited effective turbidity removal of 72.7% and maintained stable filtration performance over multiple operation cycles. Compared with previously reported ultrafiltration membranes, the PSFEc-18 membrane demonstrates a favorable balance between water permeance and antifouling capability. This study provides fundamental insights into the structure–property–performance relationships of polymer-based ultrafiltration membranes and offers a simple and effective strategy for designing high-performance membranes through regulation of membrane matrix content, with potential implications for sustainable water treatment applications.

In response to the stringent requirements for lightweight and high-performance materials in the field of aerospace ablative thermal protection, phenolic aerogels, despite their advantage of low density, have insufficient thermal insulation and ablation resistance to meet the service demands in extreme environments. In this study, POSS-modified phenolic aerogels were prepared via the ring-opening grafting reaction between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and phenolic resin, combined with the sol–gel method. The resulting aerogels exhibit a specific surface area of 103.9 m 2 /g and the temperature at the maximum weight loss rate up to 843.85 K. Additionally, the thermal conductivity of P-E-10 decreases from 0.119 W/(m·K) to 0.091 W/(m·K). Their excellent thermal insulation performance was verified through a self-designed thermal insulation experiment and COMSOL simulation. Under the ablation of a butane torch flame with a heat flux of approximately 100 kW/m 2 and a central temperature of approximately 1373.15 K, the material demonstrates efficient ablation resistance, with a linear ablation rate as low as 7.75 μm/s. In conclusion, POSS-modified phenolic aerogels exhibit broad application prospects with high competitiveness in the field of ablative thermal protection in the future.

Secondary caries driven by biofilm accumulation at restoration surfaces and tooth–restoration interfaces remains a major cause of failure for resin-based restorations, motivating the development of non-leaching, contact-active antibacterial dental resins. However, strengthening antibacterial/anti-adhesion performance by incorporating functional comonomers often compromises mechanical durability, largely due to reduced effective crosslink density and increased susceptibility to hydrolytic degradation. Here, we address this bioactivity–durability trade-off by synergistically incorporating a cellulose-derived methacrylated macromer/crosslinker (ECM) and a fluoride-containing quaternary ammonium methacrylate antibacterial monomer (DMAHDM-F) into a dental resin matrix. ECM serves as a multifunctional macromolecular crosslinking element to reinforce network integrity and enhance effective crosslink density, while DMAHDM-F provides covalently immobilized, non-leaching antibacterial activity via quaternary ammonium functionality. The optimized formulation (ACDR-5) combines high flexural strength and modulus with pronounced antibacterial efficacy against Streptococcus mutans . Moreover, ACDR-5 maintains > 90% viability of human gingival fibroblasts, indicating favorable cytocompatibility. This dual-functional, network-reinforced design provides a straightforward strategy to reconcile sustained antibacterial performance with mechanical durability in light-cured dental resins.

Conductive hydrogels hold great promise for applications in flexible sensors. However, for such soft hydrogel systems, achieving a synergistic integration of high mechanical robustness, excellent conductivity, and outstanding self-healing capability remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, this study introduces β -cyclodextrin-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes ( β -CD@MWCNTs) combined with a dynamic redox initiation system undergoing rapid polymerization to prepare hydroxyethyl cellulose/polyacrylic acid/ β -CD@MWCNTs (HEC/PAA/ β -CD@MWCNTs) semi-interpenetrating network hydrogels. The incorporated β -CD@MWCNTs serve as additional physical crosslinking points within the system, which not only markedly enhance the mechanical properties of the hydrogel—including fracture strain (1407.28%), toughness (734.71 kJ m −3 )—while retaining the low modulus (13.08 kPa) characteristic of typical hydrogels, but also confer a remarkable self-healing capability (with up to 88.65% healing efficiency for elongation at break). Furthermore, β -CD@MWCNTs can form a stable ion-electron synergistic conductive pathway with Fe 3+ , endowing the hydrogel with excellent electrical conductivity (37.21 mS cm −1 ) and high strain sensitivity (gauge factor [GF] = 3.77). This study introduces functionalized carbon nanotubes, providing a novel strategy for developing high-performance conductive hydrogels that combine low modulus with high stretchability, excellent conductivity, and self-healing capability, underscoring their broad application potential in flexible sensing including human motion monitoring, information encryption, and handwriting anti-counterfeiting.

Transparent and robust anti-fog coatings are highly demanded in advanced optical systems. Herein, a waterborne Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) hydrogel coating P(AM90-AMPS15-HOA5)-PVA30-B4 was fabricated via two-step polymerization and borate cross-linking. Increasing borate content to 4 mol% refines PVA-rich nanodomains to ∼2.7 nm, suppresses Mie scattering, and achieves 96% transmittance with haze as low as 1.9%. The coating exhibits outstanding durability, retaining 96% transmittance after 120 h dust exposure at 85% Relative Humidity (RH), meeting MIL-PRF-32432 standards. Coupled with Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA), a lightweight dehazing algorithm, the physical-digital synergistic system elevates Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) to 28.6 dB and achieves Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) above 0.92 with excellent color fidelity, outperforming commercial coatings and single algorithm pipelines. This work provides a green, scalable strategy for high-performance anti-fog coatings and a universal paradigm for physical-digital integrated optical imaging.

Effective wound healing requires multifunctional materials capable of simultaneously managing exudates, preventing microbial infections, and promoting tissue regeneration. In this study, we report the fabrication of bifunctional Janus nanofibers via a novel conjugate bubble electrospinning technique that integrates hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer phases into a single fiber architecture. Hydrophilic domains composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) blended with chitosan (CS) or sodium alginate (SA) were combined with hydrophobic poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrices, encapsulating curcumin or rutin as bioactive agents. The resulting nanofibers exhibited distinct phase interfaces, high structural integrity, and tunable wettability and drug release behavior. Comprehensive characterization revealed enhanced antibacterial activity, exudate absorption capacity, and cytocompatibility in Janus systems compared to mono-structured controls. In vitro drug release studies confirmed sustained and polymer-selective delivery profiles, while in vivo wound healing using a full-thickness rat model demonstrated accelerated tissue regeneration. Notably, PSA/PCRu nanofibers achieved a 95.2% wound closure rate within 15 days, outperforming all other groups due to synergistic moisture regulation and bioactive delivery. This work establishes conjugate bubble electrospinning as a scalable platform for producing multifunctional nanofibrous wound dressings, offering a promising strategy for the next generation of personalized, bioactive wound care materials.

Cu(II) contamination in industrial wastewater constitutes a major challenge to global environmental management as traditional treatment methods are plagued by high energy consumption, secondary pollution risks, and substantial costs. A technical strategy was developed to prepare glutaraldehyde-crosslinked sodium alginate-zeolite (SA-HZ/GA) composite adsorption membranes via phase inversion. This approach leverages zeolites' structural reinforcement and mass transfer channel formation combined with glutaraldehyde's crosslinking properties to optimize material performance. SA-HZ/GA features abundant mesopores with sizes ranging from 2 to 16 nm and exhibits fracture strength over 74% higher than pure sodium alginate membranes. At pH 5 and 25°C, its Cu(II) adsorption capacity reaches 46.80 mg/g with over 80% removal efficiency maintained after 5 cycles with 0.1 M HCl as desorbent. The adsorption process fits the Langmuir model ( R 2 = 0.999) and follows pseudo-second-order kinetics, indicating monolayer chemical adsorption. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption was spontaneous (Δ G = −12.5 kJ/mol) and endothermic (Δ H = 28.4 kJ/mol), with a positive entropy change (Δ S = 0.14 kJ/(mol·K)) suggesting increased randomness at the solid–liquid interface. This work provides an efficient, stable, and cost-effective engineering solution for heavy metal-laden wastewater treatment.
