In the process of removing dye wastewater, the membrane surface is susceptible to contamination, resulting in reduced performance and limited dye separation efficiency. A single hydrophilic modification layer is not enough to achieve effective separation of different types of dyes. The present research designed a "double layer protection" method in order to overcome the above deficiencies. A solution of dopamine (DA) coated carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH) was covered on the surface of the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane by deposition, followed by grafting a layer of chitosan (CS) polymer brushes on its surface. The spatial double layer structure provides an excellent barrier effect and effectively reduces the contamination of dyes. When filtering different types of dyes, effective filtration of anionic and cationic dyes through the electrostatic effect of the first layer, the adsorption of CNTs in the second layer and the hydration layer of both layers. All membranes have excellent rejection properties. More importantly, the membranes also had good chemical and mechanical stability and their serviceability was not degraded. Therefore, the prepared PVDF-based multi-layer composite membranes behave a potential application prospect in the wastewater purification field.

All-inorganic halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have attracted extensive attention due to their potential for the next-generation displays. The ammonium and halide composition affect strongly the photoelectrical properties and the long-term stability of PNCs. In this work, we present a novel class of mixed all-inorganic (Cs,NH 4 )Pb(Br,X) 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) NCs prepared via cation/anion co-exchange reaction between CsPbBr 3 NCs and the mechanochemically reacted NH 4 Pb n X 2n+1 (X = Cl, Br, I, n = 1 or 2) powders. The cubic morphologies of (Cs,NH 4 )Pb(Br,X) 3 NCs with different halogen element combinations were successfully obtained. In the meanwhile, the extended emission ranges from deep-blue (453 nm) to warm-yellow (564 nm). Higher PLQY and higher stability against ambient air and UV light were achieved simultaneously by controlling the ion co-exchanging process. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of (Cs,NH 4 )Pb(Br,X) 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) NCs were also significantly enhanced compared with that of pure CsPbBr 3 after ions exchanging (>85% versus 58%). In addition, the stability of (Cs,NH 4 )Pb(Br,X) 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) NC thin films under the UV-irradiation and in the ambient atmosphere were also dramatically improved. The cation/anion co-exchanging synthetic strategy developed in our research provides a new pathway to modulate and realize mixed-ion PNCs with high optoelectronic performance.

In this work, a novel electrospun β-cyclodextrin (β-CD)/chitosan (CS)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofiber membrane was prepared to simultaneously and rapidly remove organic and heavy metal micropollutants. The preparation conditions were optimized by multi-objective response surface methodology, and obtained as follows: 100% of the amount of β-CD (relative to PVA), 49.49% of the amount of CS (relative to PVA), 20 cm of the distance between the needle tip and the collector drum, 0.23 mL h −1 of the flow rate of the spinning solution, and 8.72% of the amount of PVA (relative to water). The characterization by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed a well cross-linked β-CD/CS/PVA nanofiber membrane was formed. In the static and dynamic adsorption experiments, the results demonstrated that the β-CD/CS/PVA nanofiber membrane was highly efficient in simultaneous and rapid removal of organic and heavy metal micropollutants in water treatment process.

The in-situ photocatalytic selective reduction of O 2 to produce H 2 O 2 is a promising green and sustainable production technique. However, it faces significant challenges due to the high reaction energy barrier of the H 2 O oxidation half-reaction, which inhibits the reaction and leads to undesirable oxidative by-products. In this study, we have the first time developed a O/Cs dual-functional carbon nitride material for the simultaneous photocatalytic reduction of O 2 to synthesize H 2 O 2 and the selective oxidation of xylose to produce xylonic acid. The CN-O/Cs material exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity for H 2 O 2 production at 820.6 μmolh −1 (41.03 mmolh -1 g −1 ), while achieving a xylose oxidation rate of 359.5 μmolh −1 to xylonic acid, surpassing most reported catalytic systems and enabling biomass upgrading. It is elucidated that the introduction of Cs atoms serves as new reduction active sites, significantly enhancing the adsorption of O 2 with the transitioning Pauling type adsorption configuration. And the Cs atoms facilitate the deprotonation capability of H 2 O to form the crucial *OOH while lowering the reaction energy barrier. The presence of oxygen atoms plays a role in redistribution of electron density, and promotes the selective oxidation of the aldehyde group at the edge of xylose. The synergistic functionalities of Cs and O atoms enable the efficient utilization of electron-hole pairs for the simultaneous synthesis of H 2 O 2 and xylonic acid. This study demonstrates that the rational design of multifunctional tandem sites materials at the atomic scale for the synergistic synthesis of H 2 O 2 and selective oxidation of biomass holds promising prospects.

In this study, an Fe-La-CS adsorbent with a reticulated structure was prepared by an in situ method, which was able to adsorb arsenate efficiently over a wide pH range of 3–11. The incorporation of iron and lanthanum ions broadened the tolerant pH range of the adsorbent compared with chitosan beads (CS). Arsenic was mainly present in the pH range of 3–9 as two forms, H 2 AsO 4 − and HAsO 4 2− . Calculations using the density-functional theory (DFT) showed that in the Ligand interactions and electrostatic interactions dominate in the pH range, with surface precipitation, and hydrogen bonding interactions playing a facilitating role. The background ions mainly compete with arsenic adsorption for electrostatic interaction sites. However, due to the different valence states of the background ions, the competition intensity is different. Such as low valence state representative ions Na + , K + competitiveness is weak, and arsenic competition adsorption first occupy different adsorption sites, therefore, from the quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics point of view of Na + , K + on arsenic adsorption almost no effect. Cl − , SO4 2− will have some influence on arsenic adsorption because of the same charge with arsenic, but the charged amount is smaller than arsenic and the molecular structure is different from that of arsenic, so the influence is not very big. In summary, the material design of Fe-La-CS adsorbent has great potential and theoretical significance for selective purification of heavy metal wastewater at wide pH.

Lead-free double perovskites (DPs) in the form of two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets (NSs) have emerged as exceptional candidates compared to zero-dimensional (0D) nanocrystals (NCs). This preference is attributed to their intriguing fundamental properties and promising applications in optoelectronics. Notably, NSs offer superior performance due to their enhanced surface passivation capabilities, facilitating more efficient treatment of surface defects and thereby enhancing optoelectronic properties. However, the realization of Cs 2 NaInCl 6 as lead-free DPs NSs is yet to be achieved. In this study, we successfully synthesized Cs 2 NaInCl 6 co-doped with Bi 3+ /Mn 2+ NSs. The two-step solution process synthesis enables us to achieve dimensionality control, progressing from 0D NCs to 2D NSs. Comprehensive optical spectroscopy analyses reveal that the NSs exhibit a suppressed non-radiative decay rate ( Knr ) of 5.03 × 10 −3 ns −1 in contrast to NCs with a Knr of 3.21 × 10 −2 ns −1 . This observation is indicative of a well-passivated surface in NSs. In contrast, NSs with identical composition and surface morphology significantly enhance the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) up to 73%, which represents the highest PLQYs recorded in Cs 2 NaInCl 6 DPs to the best of our knowledge. Beyond fundamental investigations, the study explores the practical applications of these NSs as anti-counterfeit marks created on a flexible substrate, demonstrating robust emission under UV light. Additionally, the fabrication and testing of a light-emitting diode (LED) showcase the versatility of these NSs in optoelectronic devices. This comprehensive exploration of the optical, morphological, and application aspects of Cs₂NaInCl₆ doped with Bi³⁺/Mn 2 ⁺ NSs contributes valuable insights to the evolving landscape of lead-free perovskite materials, highlighting their potential for diverse technological applications.

Screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) functionalized with MXene-based three-dimensional nanomaterials are reported for rapid determination of creatinine. Ti 3 C 2 T X MXene with in situ reduced AuNPs (MXene@AuNP) were used as a coreactant accelerator for efficient immobilization of enzymes. Creatinine could be oxidized by chitosan-embedded creatinine amidohydrolase, creatine amidinohydrolase, or sarcosine oxidase to generate H 2 O 2 , which could be electrochemically detected enhanced by Prussian blue (PB). The enzyme@CS/PB/MXene@AuNP/SPCE detected creatinine within the range 0.03–4.0 mM, with a limit of detection of 0.01 mM, with an average recovery of 96.8–103.7%. This indicates that the proposed biosensor is capable of detecting creatinine in a short amount of time (4 min) within a ± 5% percentage error, in contrast with the standard clinical colorimetric method. With this approach, reproducible and stable electrochemical responses could be achieved for determination of creatinine in serum, urine, or saliva. These results demonstrated its potential for deployment in resource-limited settings for early diagnosis and tracking the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Graphical Abstract

This paper introduces a wireless passive humidity sensor based on a molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanoflower and chitosan (CS) composite material, designed to address the limitations of traditional humidity sensors, including weak response, complex structure, and high cost, particularly in extreme humidity environments. The innovative MoS 2 /CS composite dielectric layer was developed by leveraging the high specific surface area and active sites of MoS 2 , in conjunction with the hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of CS. Experimental results demonstrate that an optimized composite material ratio (MoS 2 :CS = 1:20) yields an ultra-high sensitivity (660 kHz/%RH), faster response/recovery time (70 s/120 s), The device demonstrates a strong linear response within a humidity range of 40 %–60 %RH, evidenced by a linearity value of 0.98779. However, between the humidity range of 60 %–95 %RH, the resonant frequency exhibits a quintic relationship with humidity. In this range, the linearity R 2 value is 0.99656. and minimal hysteresis (approximately 3 %) across a broad humidity range (40 %–95 % RH). Furthermore, the chemical-physical synergistic adsorption mechanism of the composite material was elucidated using characterization methods such as FTIR, XPS, and SEM. Chemical adsorption (hydrogen bonding and coordination bonding) predominates at low humidity, while physical adsorption (swelling and interlayer hydration) is more prevalent at high humidity. The sensor offers several advantages, including low cost, long-term stability (no drift for 30 days), and environmental compatibility, thereby providing a high-performance solution for the Internet of Things and closed monitoring systems. This also expands the potential application of two-dimensional materials and biopolymers in the field of wireless sensing.

Energy-efficient windows are crucial for enhancing energy efficiency. However, developing novel window materials that simultaneously achieve high visible light transmittance, exceptional ultra-broadband near-infrared (NIR) shielding performance, neutral color appearance, long-term stability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainable production remains a formidable challenge. This study introduces a breakthrough material fulfilling all these requirements: ferrous ion-doped phosphosilicate glass (Fe 2+ -PSG), which emerges as a promising candidate for energy-efficient windows. Comprehensive characterization using UV–Vis-NIR transmittance/absorption spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy reveals that Fe 2+ -PSG exhibits remarkable visible light transmittance of 83.7 ± 0.5%, a neutral color temperature of 6809 ± 53 K, and a high NIR shielding figure of merit of 1.80 ± 0.01. These exceptional properties primarily originate from the formation of colorless ferrous [FeO 6 ] units, influenced by phosphorus and cesium oxide incorporation. Moreover, Fe 2+ -PSG exhibits outstanding stability, retaining its optical performance for over 10 years under ambient conditions, and maintaining structural integrity after 24-hour immersion hot water (80 °C) and hot air (120 °C) exposures. These superior characteristics stem from unique structural modifications that modulate the crystal field splitting energy of Fe 2+ ions, enabling precise tuning of optical properties across the visible and NIR spectral ranges. Produced via a scalable, facile and low-cost melt-quenching process, Fe 2+ -PSG offers a feasible and sustainable solution for energy-efficient window fabrication. This innovation overcomes existing technological limitations and facilitates widespread practical applications.

Multilayer PVDF membrane with TiO₂/ZIF-8 and CS-SDAEM brush. • Superhydrophilic: water contact angle drops to 0° within 1.3 s. • Pure water flux 1440 L·m⁻²·h⁻¹ and dye rejection over 93%. • Synergy enables > 93% flux recovery after 10 cycles without cleaning. • Excellent stability against ultrasonication, abrasion, and harsh chemicals. Conventional polymer separation membranes suffer from severe fouling, limiting their efficiency in wastewater treatment. To address this issue, we develop a multilayer-modified PVDF membrane by integrating a TiO₂/ZIF-8 photocatalytic layer and a CS-SDAEM zwitterionic polymer brush. The TiO₂/ZIF-8 nanoparticles are deposited on the membrane surface, followed by crosslinking and grafting of CS-SDAEM, which forms a robust hydration layer and physically encapsulates the nanoparticles. The resulting membrane exhibits superhydrophilicity (water contact angle drops to 0° within 1.3 s) and achieves a pure water flux of 1440 L·m⁻²·h⁻¹ with over 93% dye rejection for various dyes. Owing to the synergistic adsorption, photocatalysis, and antifouling effects, the membrane shows excellent self-cleaning ability, maintaining a flux recovery rate > 93% after 10 photocatalytic cycles without chemical cleaning. In addition, it exhibits excellent mechanical and chemical stability when subjected to ultrasonication, abrasion, and exposure to aggressive chemicals. This multilayer strategy offers a promising route to construct high-performance, long-lasting separation membranes for advanced water treatment. Abstract The isothermal dissolution equilibrium method was employed to investigate the phase equilibrium and phase diagram of the ternary system (Na+, Cs+//Cl––H2O) at 313.15 K. This ternary system features the coexistence of double salts and solid solutions. The solid solution, formulated as ([Cs1–x(Na·H2O)x]Cl), was characterized by wet-residue analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry–differential scanning calorimetry (TG–DSC). Three representative equilibrium compositions of the solid solution and their respective proportions within the crystallization region were determined, and the results were compared with those of the two pure salts (NaCl and CsCl). The physicochemical property diagrams indicate that both density and refractive index increase with rising cesium chloride content. A comparative phase diagram of the ternary system (Na+, Cs+//Cl––H2O) was constructed over the temperature range from 298.15 to 318.15 K. The results show that as temperature increases, the crystallization region of NaCl expands, whereas the crystallization regions of CsCl·2NaCl·2H2O and [Cs1–x(Na·H2O)x]Cl simultaneously contract.

AuAgNCs-NFM is used for the efficient enrichment of HMs in soil. • The detection sensitivity and accuracy for Cs, Sr, and Co are enhanced. • The LODs for Cs, Sr, and Co reach 0.078, 0.085, and 0.16 mg/kg, respectively. • The 1D-CNN model is developed to improve predictive performance. Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of heavy metals (HMs) in soil is of importance for ensuring food security and advancing smart agriculture. However, conventional detection methods face numerous limitations, such as complicated operations and time-consuming procedures. This study proposed a novel method using AuAg nanoclusters (AuAgNCs)-modified nanofibrous membranes combined with double-pulse LIBS (DP-LIBS) for the sensitive detection of available cesium (Cs), strontium (Sr), and cobalt (Co) in soil. The AuAgNCs-modified nanofiber membranes were utilized to efficiently adsorb Cs + , Sr 2+ , and Co 2+ from soil solution, with simultaneous DP-LIBS detection. The results revealed that the limits of detection (LODs) for Cs, Sr, and Co in soil reached 0.078 mg/kg, 0.085 mg/kg, and 0.16 mg/kg, respectively. Furthermore, a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) model was developed for accurate quantitative analysis and exhibited excellent predictive performance. The residual predictive deviations (RPDs) for Cs, Sr, and Co in soil were 6.0121, 5.1844, and 6.7082, respectively.
