Herein, an integrated solar-thermal-power protocol is presented at a micro-nanoscopic level to maximize the energy utilization efficiency involving utilization period and utilization patterns, and the nexus of freshwater production and nanogeneration is realized. This sophisticated vaporization device is constructed with the merits of thermally confined evaporation space in favor of recycling latent heat of condensation and optimizing light absorption based on the local sunlight angle of incidence. Inspired by a bird's nest, Sb 2 WO 6 /D-Fructose composites are prepared as photothermal absorbers to achieve a superior water evaporation rate of 2.78 kg m −2 h −1 in the Multi-stage evaporator. In addition, a synergistic tandem photo thermal-electric device with a combination of solar-driven water evaporation and further waterflow-driven hydrovoltaic generation, which can output a stable voltage of up to 360.8 mV with effective utilization of steam energy and a limited water source, is exploited. Such integrated configurations pave a pathway for clean water production and renewable power generation simultaneously toward energy issues.

The development of cost-effective and highly efficient electrocatalysts is critical to help electrochemical non-enzymatic sensors achieve high performance. Here, a new class of catalyst, Ru single atoms confined on Cu nanotubes as a single-atom alloy (Ru 1 Cu NTs), with a unique electronic structure and property, was developed to construct a novel electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensor for the first time. The Ru 1 Cu NTs with a diameter of about 24.0 nm showed a much lower oxidation potential (0.38 V) and 9.0-fold higher response (66.5 μA) current than Cu nanowires (Cu NWs, oxidation potential 0.47 V and current 7.4 μA) for glucose electrocatalysis. Moreover, as an electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensor, Ru 1 Cu NTs not only exhibited twofold higher sensitivity (54.9 μA mM −1 cm −2 ) and wider linear range (0.5–8 mM) than Cu NWs, but also showed a low detection limit (5.0 μM), excellent selectivity, and great stability. According to theoretical calculation results, the outstanding catalytic and sensing performance of Ru 1 Cu NTs could be ascribed to the upshift of the d-band center that helped promote glucose adsorption. This work presents a new avenue for developing highly active catalysts for electrochemical non-enzymatic sensors. Graphical Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the ameliorative effect of platycodin D (PD) on cognitive dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its potential molecular mechanisms of action in vivo and in vitro. Materials and methods: An animal model of cognitive impairment in T2DM was established using a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (100 mg/kg) after 8 weeks of feeding a high-fat diet to C57BL/6 mice. In vitro, immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were employed to analyze the effects of PD on glucose-induced neurotoxicity in mouse hippocampal neuronal cells (HT22). Results: PD (2.5 mg/kg) treatment for 4 weeks significantly suppressed the rise in fasting blood glucose in T2DM mice, improved insulin secretion deficiency, and reversed abnormalities in serum triglyceride, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein levels. Meanwhile, PD ameliorated choline dysfunction in T2DM mice and inhibited the production of oxidative stress and apoptosis-related proteins of the caspase family. Notably, PD dose-dependently prevents the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, promotes phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase and protein kinase B (Akt) in vitro, activates glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) expression at the Ser9 site, and inhibits Tau protein hyperphosphorylation. Conclusions: These findings clearly indicated that PD could alleviate the neurological damage caused by T2DM, and the phosphorylation of Akt at Ser473 may be the key to its effect.

A novel targeting drug delivery system containing poly(styrene-alt-maleic anhydride) 58 -b-polystyrene 130 (P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) as a copolymer backbone, N -acetyl glucosamine (NAG) as a targeting moiety was designed and synthesized. The NAG grafted copolymer (NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 ) was characterized by FTIR and 1 H NMR. The NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited spherical shapes with an average diameter about 56.27 ± 0.43 nm, low critical micelle concentration of 0.028 mg/mL, negative zeta potential −41.46 ± 0.99 mV, high drug loading 25.83 ± 1.09% and encapsulation efficiency 69.69 ± 3.98%. In vitro cell cytotoxicity was conducted to confirm the safety of the NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and flow cytometry (FCM) results showed that the NAG targeting moiety enhanced the internalization and targeting ability of NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles. Anticancer activity toward MCF-7 cells and HT29 cells showed that DOX-loaded NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles exhibited a higher antitumor activity compared to DOX-loaded P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles, which could attribute to NAG receptor-mediated endocytosis. These results suggest that the biocompatible and non-toxic NAG-P(St-alt-MA) 58 -b-PSt 130 nanoparticles may be used as an effective targeting drug delivery system for cancer therapy.

Improve the sterile inflammation caused by soft tissue fillers. • Reduce inflammatory mediators and ROS levels. • Promoted cell migration and orderly collagen deposition. The increasing prevalence of soft tissue fillers has given rise to a concern regarding the occurrence of local sterile inflammation induced by the filler material. This study proposes the use of Poly(D,L-lactic acid) (PDLLA) microspheres composite with D-α-Tocopherol acetate (α-TA) and Hydroxyapatite (HAp) to eliminate aseptic inflammation caused by PDLLA degradation. The reduction of aseptic inflammation is achieved by prolonging degradation time, modulating the local microenvironment, and suppressing inflammatory mediators. HAp and α-TA were evenly distributed in PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) microspheres, and those microspheres have a particle size suitable for soft tissue filling (30–70 µm). Utilizing a conventional commercial formulation, PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) is uniformly amalgamated with carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to formulate CMC@PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) gel. CMC@PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) exhibits sustained release properties for at least 6 weeks and possesses excellent injectability. Meanwhile, CMC@PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) exhibits excellent biocompatibility and the ability to promote cell migration. Specifically, CMC@PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) significantly reduces inflammatory mediators and reactive ROS levels, while exhibiting prolonged and orderly collagen deposition. In summary, as an injectable soft tissue filler, CMC@PDLLA/HAp(α-TA) offers a novel strategy for the long-term suppression of sterile inflammation. The neuroprotective effect of DAAOi is associated with increased levels of its substrate, D-Serine. • D-Serine can ameliorate cognitive and behavioral deficits in MCAO rats. • D-Serine may exert its neuroprotective effect by promoting the D-Serine/GluN2A/BDNF signaling pathway. To investigate the mechanisms of D-Amino acid oxidase inhibitor (DAAOi) in ameliorating cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and the underlying neuroprotective effect of substrate D-Serine. A middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model and an oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-induced HT22 cell model were used to mimic ischemic stroke. The modified Neurological Severity Scores (mNSS) and 2, 3, 5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining were applied to assess neurological behavioral scores and cerebral infarct area, respectively. The effects of DAAOi 4H-Furo[3,2-b]pyrrole-5- carboxylic acid (SUN) and D-Serine intervention on cognitive and behavioral functions in MCAO rats were evaluated by using the Y-maze and Novel Object Recognition Test (NORT). Intracerebral stereotaxic injection of Compound SUN and D-Serine (0.21 mg, 1.05 mg, 2.1 mg) significantly reduced cerebral infarct area, indicating that DAAOi might improve cerebral I/R injury by elevating D-Serine levels. Similarly, D-Serine significantly enhanced cognitive and behavioral performance in MCAO rats (mNSS: improved by 2.3 scores; Y-maze: spontaneous alternation rate increased by 14.76%; NORT: recognition index improved by 12.28%). D-Serine pretreatment (10 μM-10 mM) dose-dependently increased the viability of HT22 cells subjected to OGD. In both in vitro and in vivo models, D-Serine significantly increased the protein level of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit 2A (GluN2A). Additionally, D-Serine promoted the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and postsynaptic density protein-95 but inhibited the apoptosis-related p38 MAPK phosphorylation. This study demonstrated that the neuroprotective effect of DAAOi was at least partly mediated by elevating cerebral D-Serine levels, which regulated the GluN2A/BDNF axis to enhance synaptic plasticity and cognitive function. A sensitive and reliable method was developed to determine befotertinib (D-0316) and its metabolite D-0865 from human plasma by LC-MS/MS. The samples were prepared by simple protein precipitation and 2 µL of the supernatant were chromatographed on a C18 analytical column (ACE Excel 2 Super C 18 , 50 × 2.1 mm). Elution was performed with mobile phase A (10 mM ammonium acetate in water containing 1 % formic acid) and mobile phase B (acetonitrile containing 1 % formic acid) under a gradient program in a total run time of 4 min. Triple Quadruple 5500 equipped with Turbo Ion Spray source and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) were used for the analysis detection. The transitions were m / z 568.3 → 72.1 m / z (befotertinib), m / z 554.2 → 497.2 (D-0865), and m / z 455.2 → 164.9 (verapamil, internal standard). According to the Chinese Pharmacopeia Commission and ICH Harmonised Guideline for Bioanalytical Method Validation, this method was validated within the spectrum of its accuracy, precision, selectivity, linearity, recovery, matrix effect, and stability. This LC-MS/MS method was successfully applied for the quantitation of befotertinib and its metabolite D-0865 in human plasma during the pharmacokinetics study of befotertinib in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

d -Glucaric acid (GA) derivatives exhibit anti-cancerogenic properties in vivo in apples, but quantitative information about these derivatives is limited. Hydrophilic interaction-based HPLC with ultraviolet detection or mass spectrometry was developed to quantify GA and/or d -glucaro-1,4-lacton (1,4-GL) in apples. Although the formation of 1,4-GL from GA could be the prerequisite to exert biological effects in vivo , only a small portion of GA (<5%) was identified and converted to 1,4-GL in the rat stomach. The 1,4-GL content in apples ranged from 0.3 mg/g to 0.9 mg/g, and this amount can substantiate health claims associated with apples. The amount of 1,4-GL was 1.5 times higher in Gala and the ratio of 1,4-GL to GA was lower in Green Delicious apples than those in the other varieties. Our findings suggested that the variety and maturity of apples at harvest are factors that determine 1,4-GL content.

Phloroglucinols of Dryopteris fragrans (L.) Schott plant show strong antifungal activity. In previous work, we isolated a wide range of phloroglucinols from the plant and found that pseudoaspidinol of D. fragrans and its structural modifications (methylphloroglucinol derivatives) showed stronger antifungal activity and confirmed that the butyryl group of these compounds accounted for this activity. In this study, we designed a series of phloroglucinol derivatives ( A1–A9) and methylphloroglucinol derivatives ( B1–B9) by introducing acyl groups with diverse carbon numbers in the C-2 position, synthesized these compounds, and evaluated the anti-dermatophyte activity of compounds A1–A5 and B1–B5 on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes fungal species. The results showed that compound A5 exhibited the strongest activity. These compounds can be used as leads for the development of new antifungal agents.

Based on reconstructing conventional alkyl β - d -glucopyranosides, alkyltri(oxyethyl) β - d -glucopyranosides ( 4a ~ 4h , n = 6 ~ 16) were prepared by introducing a tri(oxyethyl) group ((–OCH 2 CH 2 –) 3 ) as a hydrophilic spacer to improve effectively the related water solubility. Their foaming performance, emulsifying property, hygroscopicity, solubility, and thermotropic phase transitions were further investigated. The experimental results showed that the phase transition temperature (T iso ) increased with increasing their alkyl chain length. Such β - d -glucopyranosides ( 4b ~ 4h , n = 7 ~ 16) showed a smectic focal conic-shaped texture. Their water solubility, surface tension, CMC value, and hygroscopicity decreased with increasing their alkyl chain length. Meanwhile, 4e (n = 10) had the best foamability. In the rapeseed oil/water system, 4f (n = 12) had excellent emulsifying property. Furthermore, 4 (n = 8, 10, 12) and SDS or CTAC had the synergistic effect because their experimental CMC value was smaller than their ideal CMC value (CMC id ).

Oxidative polymerization driven by direct electron transfer (DET) demonstrates superior selectivity and strong anti-interference capability in water purification. However, its practical application is constrained by inherent limitations, including inadequate polymerization efficiency and extent, as well as catalytic site deactivation. To address these challenges, we propose a catalytic pathway engineering strategy through d-band broadening. Building upon this principle, a cobalt-manganese oxide-modified graphite felt (Co‑MnO 2 @GF) catalyst was developed and integrated into a dual-chamber reaction system. Facilitated by a downward shift of the d-band peak, surface-confined oxidative polymerization converted >94% of model pollutants into separable, potentially recoverable polymers. This yielded an effluent free of detectable intermediates and achieved near-complete removal of total organic carbon (TOC). More importantly, the electron delocalization induced by broadened d-band enables electrons derived from pollutants to migrate rapidly toward the oxidant instead of being trapped in Mn d-orbitals. This mitigates the deep reduction of Mn(IV) caused by excessive electron accumulation on Co‑MnO 2 @GF, thereby stabilizing high-valence Mn species during operation and underpinning the superior long-term stability of the catalyst in oxidative polymerization. Our work demonstrates that rational electronic structure design can effectively overcome the intrinsic barriers of DET-driven oxidative polymerization, establishing a scalable purification strategy for sustainable water treatment.

Conjugated microporous polymers have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their high porosity, broad functionality and excellent chemical stability. In this work, the small-sized layered structure of poly(phenylenethiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole) (p-PhTT) copolymer was achieved by a facile solvothermal-assisted exfoliation process in a polar organic solvent. Owing to the shorter diffusion length, the layered structure could enhance carrier diffusion from the interior to the surface, as well as provide more active sites in photocatalytic reaction. The obtained exfoliated p-PhTT copolymers show good dispersion and stability in aqueous solution and exhibit efficiently photocatalytic activity for degrading rhodamine B dye under visible-light irradiation. This effective method offers a promising strategy for exfoliating other organic porous polymers. Graphical Abstract
