Synergistic control of multiple pollutants has high benefits during the control of emissions from fuel utilization, and catalysis can contribute to efficient removal of multiple pollutants. In this work, Ti species regulated CuO/CeO 2 (Cu/Ce) catalyst was constructed to efficient simultaneous NH 3 -SCR denitration and CO oxidation under oxygen-rich conditions. It is found that the introduction of Ti species into Cu/Ce catalyst induces the formation of three-dimensional pore structure and promotes the phase transition from crystalline to amorphous, which significantly enhances the specific surface area and the dispersion of CuO and CeO 2 . The well dispersed CuO and CeO 2 species provide a larger number of adsorbed sites for CO and NO and enhance the Cu-Ce interaction, which can contribute to reducing the competitive adsorption between CO and NO and the formation of a richer surface oxygen vacancies. Owing to above improvements, the Ti species regulated Cu/Ce catalyst can achieve more than 90% removal efficiency of NO x and CO at 148–218 °C, and the active temperature windows widened by 36 °C in comparison with Cu/Ce catalyst. Through this work, we expect to shed some light on the synergistic control of CO and NO x under oxygen-rich conditions.

Graphical Schematic diagram of the dominant mechanism of NH 3 -SCR reaction on CeCu/MCM-49 catalyst before and after poisoning. The L−H mechanism was dominant before poisoning. However, after alkali metal poisoning, NO x adsorption on the catalyst is inhibited, so the E−R mechanism dominates. NO x is a common atmospheric pollutant, and NH 3 -SCR technology efficiently purifies it. CeCuO x binary-oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and loaded onto acid MCM-49 molecular sieve with a large specific surface area to increase acid sites and disperse active sites of the catalyst. The optimized 35 % CeCu/MCM-49 catalyst effectively purified over 80 % of NO x in the temperature range of 200–500 °C and demonstrated excellent resistance to alkali metals, such as K, Na, and Ca. Even after K poisoning, it still removed over 80 % of NO x in the range of 200–450 °C. Various characterization methods, including XRD, FT-IR, TEM, and N 2 isotherm adsorption-desorption tests, confirmed the structure of the catalyst remained intact after poisoning with no substance change, nor agglomeration of nanoparticles. NH 3 -TPD and H 2 -TPR confirmed that the catalyst had effective acidity and redox capacity that were not affected by alkali metals. In-situ DRIFTs showed that the catalytic reaction predominant mechanism shifted from L−H to E−R mechanism after poisoning. This study provides valuable insights into the development of high-performance Ce-based NH 3 -SCR catalysts with alkali metal resistance.

A high-performance denitration catalyst based on Mn-Ce mixed-oxide derived from a specific Mn/Ce precursorwas fabricated by solvothermal method. It exhibited outstanding low-temperature activity, which achieved above 90% NO x conversion in the temperature of 150–310 °C. Remarkably, Mn-Ce mixed-oxide demonstrated a much better SO 2 tolerance, in which the NO x conversion increased from 92.6% to 97.8% at 150 °C after introducing 200 ppm SO 2 . The synthesized Mn-Ce mixed-oxide has a porous structure with abundant chemisorbed oxygen spices and exposed active sites. In addition, the increased acidity and redox capacity enhanced the catalytic activity after introducing SO 2 . Meanwhile, the injection of SO 2 separates NH 3 adsorption sites from oxidation agents, inhibiting the unwanted oxidization of ammonia to nitrogen oxides. Furthermore, the reaction pathway on Mn-Ce mixed-oxide proved to be the L-H mechanism based on in situ DRIFTS. Thus, the synthesized Mn-Ce mixed oxide demonstrated an excellent denitration performance and the especially high SO 2 tolerance, showing great potential for low-temperature NH 3 -SCR.

Monolithic Mn-Fe-Ce-Al-O catalyst with honeycomb cordierite ceramic as a carrier was reported for the first time for low temperature deNOxapplication. In the reaction of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3, a NO conversion of above 80% at 100 °C was obtained. Notably, the catalyst also showed excellent resistance against SO2and H2O. About 60% NO conversion was maintained after successive operation in the mixed stream of SO2and H2O for 168 h. The Brunner−Emmet−Teller (BET) measurement, SEM, EDS, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), FT-IR, and XPS results of the used catalysts indicated that certain amounts of ammonium sulfate was formed on the surface of the catalyst. XPS results revealed that partial of Fe2+was oxidized to Fe3+during the reaction process, and Fe2+species have strong redox ability, which can explain the decrease in activity after reaction. In addition, SO2and H2O induced a transformation of Ce from Ce4+to Ce3+on the surface of the catalyst, which increased the amount of chemisorbed oxygen. Owing to these factors, the addition of Ce and Fe species contributes to excellent resistance of the catalyst to SO2and H2O.Keywords:honeycomb catalyst;Mn-Fe-Ce-Al-O;low temperature denitration;water and sulfur resistance

Abstract A series of Mn–Ti oxide catalysts were synthesized by the sol–gel method and the effects of different synthesis conditions were investigated in sequence. The microstructures and properties of the catalysts were characterized by using N 2 adsorption–desorption, XRD, SEM, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD, Raman and XPS. The catalytic performance over Mn–Ti oxide catalysts prepared under different synthesis conditions for the low-temperature SCR of NO with NH 3 were also comparatively evaluated. The results reveal that the calcination temperature and metal source play a significant role in the characteristics and the SCR activities of the catalysts. A relatively low calcination temperature is beneficial to low-temperature SCR activity. Manganese nitrate or manganese acetate as the Mn source combining with tetrabutyl titanate as Ti source can achieve high SCR activities. The excellent low-temperature NH 3 -SCR activity can be ascribed to the appropriate textural properties, amorphous Mn-oxides with equal ratio of Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ , good low-temperature reducibility and abundant surface B-acid sites. The Cu/TiO 2 catalysts with the addition of Eu were developed by the sol-gel way for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x by NH 3 . Activity tests revealed that CuEu/TiO 2 -0.15 catalyst showed the optimal de-NO x performance in a wide temperature range (150–300 °C), along with an admirable SO 2 tolerance. According to characterization analysis, the relationship between the NH 3 -SCR performance and physicochemical characters of samples was explored. The adjunction of Eu on Cu/TiO 2 catalyst can contribute to the formation of a large amount of Cu 2+ , adsorbed oxygen, and acid sites on the catalyst surface. Moreover, the Eu addition on Cu/TiO 2 is favorable to the generation of activated NO x and NH 3 substances adsorbed on the catalyst surface, which would conduce to the NH 3 -SCR process by Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism effectively.

The NH3–SCR process could provide cobenefits for VOCs abatement from industrial sources. Ceria-based catalysts have received considerable attention for NOx removal at low-medium temperatures. In this study, the reaction behaviors of the simultaneous control of NOx and methanol over the Sb0.5CeZr2Ox catalyst were investigated. It was found that the presence of methanol reduced NOx conversion at low temperatures, while the methanol mineralization rate was promoted in the SCR reaction environment. This effect weakened as the temperature increased, and both NOx and methanol could be effectively removed (with efficiencies more than 90%) within 250–350 °C at a CH3OH/NO ratio of no more than 1:1. NO adsorption and oxidation were greatly suppressed by methanol, thereby inhibiting the SCR reaction via the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism. Meanwhile, the formation of formamide via NH3 and intermediates of methanol oxidation was also responsible for the deactivation effect on the SCR reaction at low temperatures. The presence of NO was found to be the main reason for enhanced methanol deep oxidation as NO can promote the rehealing process of active oxygen species.

Selective non-catalytic reduction of NOx (SNCR) with NH 3 is commonly used in industrial facilities like circulating fluidized bed (CFB) furnaces. However, the strongly temperature-dependent de-NOx feature confines its applications in a specific temperature range (900–1050 °C). Here, we report a new strategy on using Fe-Ni-W exchanged zeolite (0.5FNW-H) as a catalyst to extend the SNCR temperature window. In the CFB reactor, a significant NOx conversion improvement ranging from 14.1% to 80.9% was achieved at 700 to 850 °C by applying the developed catalyst. Catalyst dosage of 4500 h −1 (GHSV), a particle diameter of 0.1–0.3 mm, and NH 3 injection position at the dense-phase zone were found preferred for NOx reduction with the highest efficiency of ~85% at 700 °C. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts remained stable after the circulating reactions in the CFB reactor. The developed catalyst is particularly applicable for improving the SNCR performance when the thermal power plants are operated at low loads.

The Cr-doped CeO2–TiO2 catalysts (CrCeTi) were produced via a coprecipitation method and used for selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The CrCeTi catalyst has good catalytic performance and sulfur resistance. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), NH3-TPD, NO-TPD, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and H2 temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR) suggested that the CrCeTi catalyst with high specific surface area (SSA), strong surface acidity, enhanced redox properties, and effective electron transfer (3Ce4+ + Cr3+ ↔ 3Ce3+ + Cr6+) were the important promotion factors for excellent SCR properties. The in situ diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS) indicated that the incorporation of Cr could improve the adsorption capacity of nitrate and the activation capacity of NH3, which were conducive to enhancing the catalytic activity. The thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry (TG-MS) confirmed that the doping of Cr reduced SO2 surface adsorption and promoted the decomposition of NH4HSO4 (ABS). Therefore, the CrCeTi catalyst showed excellent resistance to SO2 poisoning.

A series of manganese-based catalysts supported by 5–10 nm, 10–25 nm, 40 nm and 60 nm anatase TiO2 particles was synthesized via an impregnation method to investigate the effect of the initial support particle size on the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3. All catalysts were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 physisorption/desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed techniques, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). TEM results indicated that the particle sizes of the MnOx/TiO2 catalysts were similar after the calcination process, although the initial TiO2 support particle sizes were different. However, the initial TiO2 support particle sizes were found to have a significant influence on the SCR catalytic performance. XPS and NH3-TPD results of the MnOx/TiO2 catalysts illustrated that the surface Mn4+/Mn molar ratio and acid amount could be influenced by the initial TiO2 support particle sizes. The order of surface Mn4+/Mn molar ratio and acid amount over the MnOx/TiO2 catalysts was as follows: MnOx/TiO2(10–25) > MnOx/TiO2(40) > MnOx/TiO2(60) > MnOx/TiO2(5–10), which agreed well with the order of SCR performance. In situ DRIFTS results revealed that the NH3-SCR reactions over MnOx/TiO2 at low temperature occurred via a Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism. More importantly, it was found that the bridge and bidentate nitrates were the main active substances for the low-temperature SCR reaction, and bridge nitrate adsorbed on Mn4+ showed superior SCR activity among all the adsorbed NOx species. The variation of the initial TiO2 support particle size over MnOx/TiO2 could change the surface Mn4+/Mn molar ratio, which could influence the adsorption of NOx species, thus bringing about the diversity of the SCR catalytic performance.

A series of Mn a Zr b Cr c O x catalysts with different Cr/Mn molar ratios were synthesized via co-precipitation for the selective catalytic reduction of NO x with NH 3 (NH 3 -SCR). It was found that a Mn 5 Zr 2 Cr 2.5 O x catalyst with a Mn:Zr:Cr ratio of 5:2:2.5 exhibited excellent low-temperature activity and the best levels of H 2 O resistance at a high weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 54,000 ml/(h·g). NO conversion levels were measured as greater than 87% within a temperature range of 150–250 °C, and catalytic performance levels reached 90% even 50 h after reactions occurred in the presence of 15% H 2 O at 230 °C. The characterization results show that strong interactions occurring between Mn, Zr and Cr oxides and higher quantities of Mn 4+ and Lewis acid sites improved the redox properties and facilitated H 2 O resistance. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectra ( in situ DRIFTS) show that coordinated NH 3 on Lewis acid sites and bidentate nitrates play important roles in SCR reactions and that such reactions follow both Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) and Eley-Rideal (E-R) mechanisms. The competitive adsorption of H 2 O and NO may be the main cause of the adverse effects of H 2 O on catalytic performance.

Mn-based catalysts were believed to be promoting low temperature NH 3 -SCR catalysts for their satisfactory catalytic activity, whereas their poor SO 2 and H 2 O tolerance inhibited their applications. In this work, utilizing poor SO 2 tolerance of Mn oxides, composite catalytic systems containing Mn oxides as deSO x catalyst was designed and synthesized, which exhibited excellent low temperature NH 3 -SCR performance in the presence of SO 2 and H 2 O. The deSO x mechanism of Mn oxides was systematically investigated. In results, SO 2 was catalytic oxidized on the surface of Mn oxides. Oxidized sulfur species could flow away from Mn oxides surface through feed gas flow or form MnSO 4 . When NH 3 and H 2 O were introduced into the feed gas, the oxidized sulfur species were completely deposited as NH 4 HSO 4 instead of forming MnSO 4 . Thus, SO 2 was removed from feed gas entirely resulting in the superb low temperature NH 3 -SCR performances. This work provided a general strategy to enhance SO 2 and H 2 O tolerance of NH 3 -SCR catalysts at low temperature by removing SO 2 using NH 3 and H 2 O who existed in the exhaust gas from stationary sources.
