Overcoming thermoresistance and achieving precise, efficient tumor therapy remain major challenges. Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) expression and autophagy activation are two major cellular defense mechanisms associated with thermal resistance. However, strategies that target both mechanisms to improve tumor treatment efficacy remain limited. Herein, this study presents a novel type of near-infrared II (NIR-II)-responsive theranostic nanoplatform (IR-820@γ-PGA/Arg NPs, PIRA NPs) that integrates photothermal therapy (PTT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), nitric oxide (NO)-mediated gas therapy (GT), and dual-pathway inhibition mechanisms to overcome thermal resistance. The theranostic nanoplatform utilizes a γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) to encapsulate the NIR-II dye IR-820, which forms stable J-aggregates to improve NIR-II fluorescence emission and photothermal conversion efficiency. The nanoplatform adsorbs L-arginine (Arg) and releases NO under 808 nm laser excitation, exhibiting excellent photothermal properties and NIR-II fluorescence emission for precise tumor treatment. PIRA NPs overcome photothermal resistance via two pathways: suppressing HSP70-mediated thermoresistance and disrupting the autophagy-lysosomal degradation pathway (LC3B/p62 axis) through Arg-derived NO generation. This dual-pathway blockade effectively neutralizes tumor defenses, achieving a 92.7% tumor inhibition rate with minimal systemic toxicity. The γ-PGA framework enhances the stability of J-aggregates and their biocompatibility, further improving therapeutic efficacy. This work provides a versatile nanotherapeutic platform based on a promising strategy for reversing thermoresistance and achieving highly efficient cancer therapy.

Tomb No. 2 at Tushan, the most completely preserved Eastern Han princely tomb discovered nowadays, contains the feudatory king's lacquered coffin, which was examined using multianalytical techniques. Although the wooden core has severely deteriorated, analysis revealed a complex preserved structure comprising a cinnabar pigment layer above two distinct lacquer ash layers (tile-like ash containing SiO 2 and bone-derived ash with Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 (OH) 2 , SiO 2 , and Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ), where the lacquer mixture combined urushiol with tallow tree oil and incorporated calcined bos taurus bone material. These findings provide material science data essential for the conservation, identification, and restoration of similar lacquered artifacts from China's Eastern Han Dynasty.

Conventional sensing of nitrogen oxide (NO) is based on charge transfer reactions that occur exclusively at the triple-phase boundaries (solid electrolyte/sensing electrode/NO, TPBs). Here, an interface-engineered strategy is proposed to overcome this limitation by constructing a bidirectional mixed ionic-electronic conducting (MIEC) architecture. By modifying a porous YSZ scaffold with NiO to introduce an electron-conducting phase, a mixed conductive heterogeneous porous framework, NiO-YSZ, was formed. Subsequently, La 0.8 Sr 0.2 Co 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3-δ (LSCF) active sensing phase was incorporated into this framework via an impregnation method, ultimately resulting in a 3D composite sensing electrode (LSCF-NiO-YSZ) that possesses both ionic and electronic conductivity. This design expands the active site region beyond TPBs and enables more efficient charge transfer. The influence of YSZ/NiO mass ratios was systematically examined, and sensors based on NiO-modified YSZ exhibited markedly higher response values and improved sensitivity compared to pristine YSZ. The optimal composition (YSZ/NiO = 5:5) delivered a sensitivity of 10.29 °·decade −1 with excellent reproducibility and selectivity at 500°C and 0.1 Hz. These results highlight interface conduction engineering as an effective route for achieving high-performance impedancemetric NO sensors.

Template-guided topotactic transformation builds an ordered 2D/1D Bi 2 O 2 S/Bi 2 S 3 . • Bi 2 O 2 S/Bi 2 S 3 exhibited excellent sensitivity and a fast response to NO under high humidity. • The sensing mechanism was systematically studied at atomic and electronic scales. • Exhaled NO monitoring potential was demonstrated under breath-relevant conditions. Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a clinically relevant noninvasive breath biomarker associated with asthma diagnosis and management, yet its reliable detection remains hindered by the high humidity of human breath. Here, we develop a humidity-enhanced sensing strategy through template-guided topotactic transformation. The resulting hierarchically ordered 2D/1D Bi 2 O 2 S/Bi 2 S 3 (BOS/BS) heterostructure features an open nanoarchitecture, facilitating rapid gas transport and exposing active sites. The optimized BOS/BS sensor delivers a response of 37 to 1 ppm NO at room temperature under 90% RH, with response/recovery times of 9/33 s and a detection limit of 25 ppb. The response is nearly 12 times that of the single-phase BS sensor and 4 times that of the less ordered BOS/BS sensor Rather than excluding moisture, the BOS/BS heterostructure integrates interfacial charge redistribution with humidity-induced surface hydroxylation to promote NO adsorption and conversion. This work establishes a topotactic route to hierarchically ordered heterostructures for room-temperature NO sensing under high humidity and offers a materials-design strategy for breath-relevant NO sensing under moisture-rich conditions. The synergistic removal of multiple pollutants from flue gas has attracted growing interest in recent years. In this study, Cu-doped MnCeO x catalysts were synthesized via an impregnation method and integrated into PTFE fibers using a split-film process to enable the simultaneous removal of chlorobenzene (CB) and nitrogen oxide (NO). Among the catalysts tested, Mn 2 Ce 1 Cu 0.6 O x exhibited the highest performance, achieving 90 % CB degradation and 100 % NO conversion at 180 °C. The PTFE-based catalytic fibers also demonstrated excellent removal efficiency, reaching 83.7 % for dioxins at the same temperature. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed in which the NH 3 -SCR process facilitates CB oxidation by generating reactive intermediates. Cu doping was found to enhance the density of acid sites and promote the ring-opening of CB, thereby suppressing chlorine accumulation and improving catalyst stability. These findings provide valuable insights for the development and optimization of catalytic bag filters for the efficient, synergistic removal of multiple pollutants from industrial emissions.

Due to the nearly identical chemical properties of Lu and Yb, the production of no-carrier-added (NCA)177Lu faces significant challenges in their separation. Achieving efficient and streamlined separation of Lu and Yb is crucial for the production of NCA177Lu. This study systematically investigated the separation performance of the commercial Rext-P350 extraction resin for Lu and Yb. Static adsorption experiments revealed that, at a solid–liquid ratio of 8 g/L, both Lu3+and Yb3+were nearly completely adsorbed, with saturation adsorption capacities of 25.8 mg/g and 21.5 mg/g, respectively. An increase in the nitric acid concentration in the aqueous phase significantly inhibited adsorption, but the separation factor for Lu3+/Yb3+remained above 1.88. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model (R2> 0.99), with equilibrium reached within 15 min, demonstrating fast adsorption kinetics. Characterization by SEM, FT-IR, and XPS confirmed the chemical coordination between the resin and Lu3+/Yb3+. Dynamic chromatographic separation experiments showed that the Rext-P350 resin exhibited significantly better separation performance for Lu3+/Yb3+compared to 2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) extraction resin. Leveraging the excellent performance of Rext-P350 resin, a two-stage continuous extraction chromatography process was designed, achieving efficient separation of 0.045 mg of Lu3+from 200 mg of Yb3+with a Lu3+purity of 90.9% and a yield of 98.4%. This study provides a feasible separation technique for the purification of NCA177Lu.

Oxidative stress and fibrosis are core drivers of post-myocardial infarction dysfunction. Conventional therapies predominantly address either acute oxidative damage or chronic fibrosis, lacking strategies that concurrently target the two interconnected processes. Here, a microenvironment-responsive nanomedicine delivering nitric oxide (NO) and curcumin specifically to the infarcted heart is presented (named C@Si-NM). Constructed from glutathione-sensitive cyclic nitrate-trimethylene carbonate-polyethylene glycol block copolymer micelles crosslinked with silica, the system releases both NO and the encapsulated curcumin upon encountering elevated glutathione levels at the infarction site. In cardiomyocytes, NO suppresses the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore, inhibiting the release of reactive oxygen species, while curcumin directly acts as an antioxidant. In fibroblasts, NO inhibits the TGF-β/Smad pathway and curcumin downregulates the production of TGF-β, jointly suppressing fibrosis. The combined nanomedicine C@Si-NM significantly improved cardiac function in a rat model of MI after four weeks of treatment, resulting in an ejection fraction of 74 %. This value approached the normal range of 81 % and was superior to the outcomes observed with NO monotherapy at 62 % or curcumin monotherapy at 63 %. This strategy effectively mitigates both oxidative damage and fibrosis, bridging the gap between acute and chronic therapeutic interventions of myocardial infarction.

Elucidating the impacts of gaseous pollutants on secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation mechanisms is critical for developing effective PM2.5 mitigation strategies. However, the combined effects of NOx (NOx = NO2 + NO) and SO2 on SOA compositions under complex photochemical conditions remain mechanistically unresolved. Here, we investigated the individual roles of NO2/NO and their combined effects with SO2 on β-myrcene photooxidation. Our results showed that NO2 enhanced the SOA yield and the O:C ratio through oxidant amplification, whereas NO suppressed nucleation and oxidation states of products but facilitated particle size growth via organic nitrate partitioning. SO2 exhibited significant synergistic effects with both NO2 and NO, facilitating particle formation and growth processes. The newly built vacuum ultraviolet free electron laser photoionization aerosol mass spectrometer enabled the observation of a series of new compounds (i.e., organic peroxides, organic nitrate, and organosulfates) and identified new mechanisms of SOA formation. Notably, a novel compound with a molecular weight of 287 was characterized to be a nitrogen- and sulfur-containing species. These findings highlight the critical roles of pollutants in particle formation in environmental processes and provide key scientific support for regional air quality management and climate change mitigation.

Graphical Potassium titanate (K 2 Ti 8 O 17 ) nanobelts (KTN) are a unique support for Au and bimetallic AuRh nanoparticles showing strong enhancement of the catalytic reduction of NO with CO to N 2 .The KTN support facilitates the formation of surface nitrate, carbonate and isocyanide species, resulting in superior catalytic activity compared to corresponding TiO 2 -supported catalysts. The catalytic reduction of NO with CO was examined over monometallic Au and bimetallic AuRh nanoparticles supported on potassium titanate (K 2 Ti 8 O 17 ) nanobelts (KTN) and TiO 2 . The highly crystalline KTN, prepared from TiO 2 by a hydrothermal process using KOH, were several μm long and ca. 8 nm wide. Both Au and bimetallic AuRh catalysts showed a striking enhancement of the catalytic performance with KTN as support, compared to corresponding TiO 2 -supported catalysts. The reasons for this behavior could be traced back using in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy in tandem with modulation excitation spectroscopy, which proved that the KTN support promotes the formation of surface nitrate (−NO 3 − ), carbonate (−CO 3 2− ), and isocyanide (−NCO) species. In particular, the combination of KTN with bimetallic AuRh nanoparticles results in the facile formation of isocyanide, which is a pivotal intermediate for producing dinitrogen molecules via the reaction with NO; NCO (a) +NO (a) →N 2 +CO 2 .

In this work, novel heterostructured SrTiO 3 /SrCO 3 (STO/SCO) interface was constructed via the one-pot g-C 3 N 4 (CN) self-sacrificing hydrothermal strategy. The as-developed STO/SCO photocatalyst shows the air cleaning potential in continuous-flow reactors with degradation rates of NO and HCHO at 44 % and 40 %, respectively. From XRD, FTIR, and XPS analysis, CN participates in the crystallise process as the source of CO 3 2− to form the STO/SCO interface viewed by TEM and HRTEM. Subsequent temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculation results revealed the enhanced chemisorption effects of O 2 on the catalyst surface. The existence of oxygen vacancies combined with the formation of heterojunction surface induces intermediate levels, which leads to the photocatalytic oxidation under simulated solar light. Charge difference distribution simulation coupled with electrochemistry and photoluminescence tests confirmed the internal-built electron fields at the heterojunction interface which would be beneficial for photocarriers separation. Based on the above-mentioned effects, enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS) OH and O 2 − were detected under light irradiation by electron spin resonance (ESR). This work demonstrates the effectiveness of in-situ self-sacrificed strategy for construction of heterojunction interfaces and provides opportunities by utilising insulator-based materials for photocatalytic degradation of air pollutants.

Bismuth-based photocatalysts are a class of excellent visible-light photocatalysts; however, their redox activity is relatively poor and the efficiency of photogenerated carrier separation is low, limiting their development and application in the field of photocatalysis . To address these issues, a series of polyoxometalate PW 12 O 40 3– -doped Bi 2 O 3– x /Bi Schottky photocatalysts PW 12 @Bi 2 O 3– x /Bi- n (PBOB- n , where n is the amount of NaBH 4 , i.e., 6, 12, 18, 24, and 48 mg) were prepared by a simple electrospinning/calcination/in-situ NaBH 4 reduction method. In this composite photocatalyst, the doping of PW 12 could effectively adjust the electronic structure of Bi 2 O 3– x and improve its redox properties. As a shallow electron trap, PW 12 promoted the separation of the photogenerated carriers. Furthermore, desirable Schottky junction between the metal Bi nanoparticles and PW 12 @Bi 2 O 3– x further accelerated the separation of the photogenerated carriers. The synergistic effect of the aforementioned factors endowed PBOB- n with excellent photocatalytic activity. Among the samples, PBOB-18 exhibited superior photocatalytic activity. Under visible-light irradiation, 93.7% (20 mg catalyst) of 20 ppm tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA, 20 mL) was degraded in 60 min. Its activity was 4.4 times higher than that of Bi 2 O 3 . PBOB-18 also exhibited an ultrahigh photocatalytic performance for the removal of NO. Its removal rate (600 ppb) reached 83.3% in 30 min, making it one of the most active Bi-based photocatalysts. Furthermore, the photocatalytic mechanisms of PBOB-18 for TBBPA and NO have been proposed. This work provides a new direction and reference for the design of low-cost, efficient, stable, and versatile photocatalysts.

The fabrication of anti-biofouling nanofiltration (NF) membrane is one of the effective methods to improve the vulnerability of membranes to bacteria in the feed solution. The prevalent approach to prepare anti-biofouling NF membranes is to graft biotoxic substances onto the NF membrane surface to kill the attached bacteria, inducing antimicrobial resistance in bacteria and water safety problem. In this study, non-biotoxic methyl 2-aminobenzoate (MA) was employed to prepare the anti-biofouling NF membranes. Instead of killing bacteria, the modified NF membrane could effectively prevent proliferation of bacteria on the membrane surface by blocking the quorum sensing in bacteria, thereby avoiding the generation of antimicrobial resistance. On the condition that the bacteria are alive, the biofilm formed by Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Bacillus subtilis ( B. subtilis ) on the modified NF membrane were significantly reduced by 94.5% and 65.1%, respectively. Additionally, the modified membrane showed superior anti-adhesion property for proteins and polysaccharides, attributing from the improved hydrophilicity of membrane surface. The optimally modified membrane exhibited the enhanced water permeability (from 6.72 L m -2 h −1 bar −1 to 12.12 L m -2 h −1 bar −1 ) and un-degraded divalent salt rejection (98.4% of Na 2 SO 4 ). This work provided an efficient and non-biotoxic approach for the fabrication of environmental friendly anti-biofouling NF membranes, which would eliminate the worries about the water safety and the development of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria.
