A novel redox polymer comprised of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid-Ni 2+ (EDTA-Ni) complex serving as doping anions has been synthesised by a facile one-step electrochemical approach and utilized as an efficient electrode material for sensitive luteolin detection. The morphology, chemical structure and composition of the redox polymer were analyzed by SEM, UV-vis and FT-IR spectrum. Electrochemical tests revealed that the redox polymer was highly electrochemically reversible and exhibited good electrocatalytic activity to the redox reactions of luteolin with a linear range covering from 1 nM to 10 µM with a low detection limit of 0.3 nM of luteolin.

Ni-rich oxide materials suffer poor rate capability and rapid capacity fading, which seriously hinder its further commercialization. In this study, an ultrathin Al 2 O 3 coating layer on surface of the LiNi 0.6 Co 0.2 Mn 0.2 O 2 (NCM) material was prepared with Al(OC 4 H 9 ) 4 in organic medium; the process followed by heat treatment achieves Al doping. The synergistic effect of surface modification and Al doping significantly enhances the capacity retention and rate performance, while the resistance to moisture is also improved. The coated sample with 2wt% Al 2 O 3 shows superior electrochemical performances with an initial capacity of 175 mAh g −1 at 1 C and a retention of 80% after 500 cycles, which is 10% higher than the uncoated raw materials. In addition, it delivers 152 mAh g −1 at 10 C, suggesting an excellent rate capability. The substitution of Al 3+ and the Al 2 O 3 protective layer facilitates ion diffusion dynamic characteristic and improves electrochemical stability.

Inorganic complexants, such as ammonia (AA) and pyrophosphate (PP), are often present alongside heavy metal ions in alkaline plating rinsing wastewater. We investigated the removal capacity of Ni(II) from waters containing [Ni-xNH 3 -yP 2 O 7 ] n complexes by chelating and ion-exchange resins in sole and dual-ligand systems. D463 (containing iminodiacetic groups) and PAMD (possessing polyamine groups) exerted superior performance under all conditions. Ni(II) adsorption on D463 decreased with AA and PP by 10.3% and 64.4%, respectively. Conversely, the adsorption on PAMD increased by 57.3% and 75.8%, respectively. PAMD exhibited high selectivity toward anionic [Ni-PP] species over free PP. More Ni(II) was captured by PAMD in the dual-ligand systems than sole systems, while the case for D463 was opposite. As confirmed by species tracking and DFT/XPS analyses, complexes breaking-Ni 2+ capture was the dominant mechanism for D463, while the dual-site (non-charged and protonated amines) interactions with NiP 2 O 7 2– on PAMD promoted its adsorption. The tandem combination D463-PAMD was the optimal mode to remove the most Ni(II). The actual wastewater test demonstrated that >210 BV effluent met the limit of 0.1 mg Ni(II)/L and the eluent contained 15 g Ni(II)/L. This study guides the application of chelating adsorption processes in the advanced treatment of plating rinsing wastewaters.

Eliminated Ni particle size effects to isolate intrinsic SMSI effects. • Decoupled the roles of Ni sites and interfacial Ni-O v -Ti 3+ sites. • Exposed Ni sites serve as the primary sites for H 2 activation and hydrogenation. • Interfacial Ni-O v -Ti 3+ sites promote oxygenated intermediate deoxygenation. • Balancing Ni encapsulation and oxygen vacancies maximizes HDO activity. Efficient hydrodeoxygenation is essential for upgrading biomass- and coal-derived oils into high-quality fuels. Although strong metal–support interactions (SMSI) have been employed to promote hydrodeoxygenation, how SMSI-induced metal encapsulation and oxygen vacancy generation individually and collectively govern hydrodeoxygenation remains unclear. To eliminate the confounding influence of Ni particle size, a series of Ni@TiO 2− x catalysts with uniform Ni particle sizes but tunable SMSI strengths were engineered through tailored pretreatment strategies. Using a remarkably simple kinetic strategy, the mixed roles of Ni sites and oxygen vacancies were successfully decoupled, proving that Ni encapsulation inhibits hydrogenation while oxygen vacancies drive deoxygenation. Consequently, the catalyst with intermediate SMSI strength strikes an optimal balance by maximizing the density of oxygen vacancies while mitigating excessive metal encapsulation, thereby delivering the highest hydrodeoxygenation activity. Density functional theory calculations further demonstrate that interfacial Ni-O v -Ti 3+ sites enhance the adsorption of oxygenated intermediates and markedly lower the C–O bond activation barrier. The cooperative interplay between exposed metallic Ni sites and interfacial Ni-O v -Ti 3+ sites orchestrates H 2 activation and C–O bond cleavage, thereby enabling efficient hydrodeoxygenation and providing a design principle for SMSI-regulated interfacial catalytic systems. Developing efficient and selective electrocatalysts for electrochemical ammonia oxidation (eAOR), coupled with proper electrochemical processes, offers promising opportunities for recycling ammonia into valuable fertilizers and as a potential technology for energy production and storage applications. Here, we introduce Ni(OH) 2 /Ni x Cu y B@NF electrodes, developed by in-situ solvothermal methods, as highly effective and durable electrocatalytic materials. The eAOR features of Ni(OH) 2 /Ni x Cu y B@NF displays the smallest overpotential of 130 mV (at 50 mA cm −2 ) and attained a enhanced current response of 178.3 mA cm −2 (@ 1.60 V RHE ). As shown by the electrocatalytic features and stability of Ni(OH) 2 /Ni x Cu y B@NF films at 1.43 V for an eAOR of 50 mA cm −2 , the HER current was 100 mA cm −2 at 99 mV, the smallest value among all Ni-based electrocatalysts studied. Gas chromatography (GC) experiments show that ammonia produces N 2 in the electrochemical cell at different times. In the eAOR-HER system, impressive electrocatalytic performance has been observed with higher FE of N 2 and H 2 was 47 % and 27.1 %. A two-electrode arrangement of Ni(OH) 2 /Ni x Cu y B@NF needs only 1.53 V to split ammonia to acquire 10 mA cm −2 , which is lower than any other electrode material. Based on the results, Ni(OH) 2 /Ni x Cu y B@NF might be a suitable system for wastewaters bearing high levels of ammonia, generating more sustainable hydrogen from wastewater, and recycling fertilizers.

With the aim of finding efficient non-noble metal catalysts for water splitting, hierarchical Ni-Mo-polydopamine microflowers (Ni-Mo 2 C/C MF) were synthesized through a facile aqueous-phase reaction at room temperature. NiMoO 4 nanowires were utilized as both Ni and Mo source; they can complex with dopamine to form a hierarchical structure and affect the scale of the final product. The energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) measurement of Ni-Mo 2 C/C microflowers (MF) shows a high content of Mo 2 C and Ni (>90 wt %). For the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the Ni-Mo 2 C/C MF displays a low overpotential of 99 mV at a current density of −10 mA cm −2 and a small Tafel slope of 73 mV dec −1 in 1.0 m KOH. By comparison with Mo 2 C/C microspheres (MS), the nanosized Ni-doped particles offer more active sites and enhance the kinetic performance. This facile synthesis strategy is also suitable for preparing other metal-Mo 2 C/C composites that can be used in the fields of catalysis and energy conversion. Graphical In flower : A flowerlike Ni-Mo-dopamine complex is first synthesized by a facile method under room temperature. Ni doping in situ is realized by utilizing NiMoO 4 nanowire as both template and precursor. An enlarged surface area and nanosized Ni doping greatly enhance the electrocatalytic properties of Ni-Mo 2 C/C due to more active sites.

Photo-thermo-chemical dry reforming of methane (PTC-DRM) presents advantages over thermocatalytic DRM by storing solar and thermal energy as chemical energy, yet maintaining high efficiency and stability remains a challenge. Herein, we report an efficient PTC-DRM process on Ni–Co–Ce–Al catalysts and investigate the synergistic effect of Ni and Co on reaction performance. Characterization results revealed that the introduction of Co increases the concentration of acidic sites on the Ni-based catalyst surface. An appropriate number of acidic sites facilitates the DRM reaction. Co-incorporated catalysts demonstrate excellent light responsiveness, and generate more energetic hot charge carriers under light irradiation. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that the interfacial electronic structure of the Ni–Co–Ce–Al catalyst facilitates spontaneous electron transfer from CeO2 to NiCo bimetallic quantum dots (QDs), which is mediated by the built-in electric field at the metal–semiconductor interface—attributed to the inherent work function difference between CeO2 (5.45 eV) and NiCo alloys (4.93 eV). The incorporation of an optimal amount of Co significantly improves the catalytic performance, with the Ni0.9–Co0.1–Ce–Al catalyst exhibiting the highest thermal and photocatalytic activity. At 650 °C, the conversions of CH4 and CO2 increased from 55.8% and 60.1% under dark conditions to 65.1% and 67.9% under light irradiation, respectively. Accordingly, the yields of H2 and CO increased from 21.4 and 26.5 μmol min−1 g−1 to 23.6 and 27.7 μmol min−1 g−1. This study demonstrates that the synergy between bimetallic components coupled with photothermal integration can effectively enhance DRM efficiency and coke resistance, providing a valuable catalyst design strategy for solar-driven conversion of carbon resources.

While constructing hierarchical structures is an effective strategy to boost hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity, most existing synthesis routes still rely on high-temperature treatments. Herein, a novel 1D/2D/0D hierarchical NiMoO 4 /Ni(OH) 2 @P–Ni electrocatalyst is fabricated on nickel foam via a simple and mild two-step method involving hydrothermal synthesis and subsequent electrodeposition. The catalyst requires an overpotential of 77 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm −2 for the alkaline HER and operates stably for 100 h. The high performance originates from a well-orchestrated synergy: P–Ni nanoparticles serve as highly active sites for hydrogen adsorption, while the Ni(OH) 2 component and the multi-component heterointerfaces collectively facilitate water dissociation and charge transfer. Moreover, the hierarchical structure imparts exceptional interfacial properties, including superhydrophilicity and efficient gas bubble release. This work offers a viable strategy for designing high-performance electrocatalysts by orchestrating multi-component synergy within a rationally engineered hierarchical architecture.

Dry reforming of methane (DRM) presents a sustainable approach to convert greenhouse gases CO2 and CH4 into syngas. However, the industrialization of DRM is hindered by the short catalyst lifespan due to carbon deposition. Carbon deposition on Ni-catalysts is attributed to Ni step edges, which serve as carbon nucleation centers. We propose an innovative strategy to prevent carbon nucleation by modulating Ni size to eliminate Ni step edges. Ni was loaded on MCM-41, SBA-15, and DFNS (dendritic fibrous nanosilica) to prepare three distinct Ni catalysts. By altering the precursor concentration using the proposed microemulsion antisolvent coprecipitation method, we successfully adjusted the Ni size on DFNS. Ni particles with a diameter of ∼5 nm were obtained on DFNS, exhibiting excellent Ni dispersion and a physical spacing effect due to the specific preparation method and porous structure. Carbon deposition rates on Ni/MCM-41 and Ni/SBA-15 were 30.23 mgc·gcat·–1·h–1 and 16.33 mgc·gcat·–1·h–1, respectively. Remarkably, the carbon deposition rate on Ni/DFNS was only 0.15 mgc·gcat·–1·h–1. The gasification rate of deposited C to CO on the 5 nm Ni particles loaded on Ni/DFNS was five times that of the polyhedral Ni particles of Ni/MCM-41. This was attributed to the elimination of Ni step edges, which weakened C adsorption strength and enhanced the reaction of deposited C with O* to form CO. Our proposed catalyst preparation strategy is based on designing the catalyst microstructure to eliminate carbon nucleation sites. This research provides guidance for designing or preparing Ni-based catalysts for DRM with reduced carbon deposition.

Graphical We find that the N-doped Ni particles can enhance the adsorption of CO 2 and modulate the configuration of adsorbed CO on Ni-N-C sites. As a result, the optimal catalyst can efficiently convert CO 2 into CO with a faradaic efficiency of 96.7 % and a current density of 500 mA cm −2 in a strongly acidic electrolyte. Electro-chemically reducing CO 2 in a highly acidic medium is promising for addressing the issue of carbonate accumulation. However, the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) typically dominates the acidic CO 2 reduction. Herein, we construct an efficient electro-catalyst for CO formation based on a core-shell structure, where nitrogen-doped Ni nanoparticles coexist with nitrogen-coordinated Ni single atoms. The optimal catalyst demonstrates a significantly improved CO faradaic efficiency (FE) of 96.7 % in the acidic electrolyte (pH=1) at an industrial-scale current density of 500 mA cm −2 . Notably, the optimal catalyst maintains a high FE of CO exceeding 90 % (current density=500 mA cm −2 ) in the electrolyte with a wide pH range from 0.67 to 14. In-situ spectroscopic characterization and density functional theory calculations show that the local electron density of Ni-N-C sites is enhanced by N-doped Ni particles, which facilitates the formation of *COOH intermediate and the adsorption of *CO. This study demonstrates the potential of a hybrid metal/Ni-N-C interface in boosting acidic CO 2 electro-reduction.

Electro-enhanced metal-free boron/peroxymonosulfate (B/PMS) system has demonstrated potential for efficient metal-organic complexes degradation in an eco-friendly way. However, the efficiency and durability of the boron activator are limited by associated passivation effect. Additionally, the lack of suitable methods utilizing in-situ recovery of metal ions liberated from decomplexation causes huge resource waste. In this study, B/PMS coupled with a customized flow electrolysis membrane (FEM) system is proposed to address above challenges with Ni-EDTA used as the model contaminant. Electrolysis is confirmed to remarkably promote the activation performance of boron towards PMS to efficiently generate • OH which dominated Ni-EDTA decomplexation in the anode chamber. It is revealed that the acidification near the anode electrode improves the stability of boron by inhibiting passivation layer growth. Under optimal parameters (10 mM PMS, 0.5 g/L boron, initial pH = 2.3, current density = 68.87 A/m 2 ), 91.8% of Ni-EDTA could be degraded in 40 min, with a k obs of 6.25 × 10 −2 min −1 . As the decomplexation proceeds, nickel ions are recovered in the cathode chamber with little interference from the concentration of co-existing cations. These findings provide a promising and sustainable strategy for simultaneous metal-organic complexes removal and metal resources recovery.
