Flexible sensors have wide-ranging application prospects in the field of human health motion monitoring. However, it is still a challenge to design and prepare strain sensors with both high sensitivity and wide operating range. Inspired by the fiber connection structure of lotus root, the carbon nanocoils (CNCs) with large aspect ratio (acting as the lotus root fibers) is used as a conductive bridge to connect the fragile Ti 3 C 2 -MXene nanosheet layers, significantly enhancing the sensing range of the sensor. Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) encapsulated strain sensor (Ti 3 C 2 /CNCs/WPU) can achieve GF values and sensing ranges of 474 and 220%, respectively. In addition, this sensor shows reliable responses at different frequencies and can withstand more than 1000 stretch-release cycles. More importantly, the composite strain sensor can accurately sense and monitor different limb movements and human body motion states, showing broad application prospects in real-time human health detection.

MXene is a typical kind of 2D material with high specific surface, electrial conductivity, self-lubrication and abundant surface groups, which has received wide attention in the fields of electrochemistry, lubrication, sensors and electromagnetic shielding. In this work, MXene-containing polymer matrix composites (MHMA@ Ti 3 C 2 ) are prepared to enhance the humidity response properties of conventional polyacrylate humidity sensitive materials. The result shows that the humidity response curve of MHMA@ Ti 3 C 2 humidity film shows good linearity (R 2 = 0.9992) in the relative humidity range of 30–90 %RH, with a high sensitivity of 63.7 kΩ/%RH. Meanwhile, the humidity response/recovery time of the MHMA@ Ti 3 C 2 humidity film shortened from 310 s/312 s to 30 s/35 s, resulting in a much faster response speed. The wet hysteresis was reduced from 2.1 %RH to 0.34 %RH, and the lowest temperature change coefficient was reduced from 0.60 %RH/℃ to 0.44 %RH/℃ compared with MHMA. In the composites, MXene component significantly enhances the electronic migration capability during the humidity response, which improved the humidity-sensitive properties of the composites, and at the same time enhanced the response speed and temperature change resistance of the composites.

As a novel two-dimensional material, Ti 3 C 2 MXenes has attracted lots of attention in biomedical filed for its large surface area and excellent near-infrared (NIR) responsiveness. In this paper, an in-situ growth and self-assembly approach was employed to combine gold nanorods (GNRs) with Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets to prepare intelligent sandwich-like Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs/PDA/Ti 3 C 2 nanohybrids . Compared with Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets, in-situ growth Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs possessed excellent photothermal conversion efficiency (45.89%), caused by the distinguished photothermal synergy between GNRs and Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets. Moreover, the high specific surface area of Ti 3 C 2 MXene and outstanding adhesion performance of PDA endowed Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs/PDA/Ti 3 C 2 nanohybrids with superior drug loading ability for doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) (95.88%). Besides, Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs/PDA/Ti 3 C 2 nanohybrids displayed distinct pH/NIR responsive drug release properties upon NIR irradiation owing to the strong π-π stacking interaction between Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs/PDA/Ti 3 C 2 and DOX, along with the excellent NIR-responsiveness of Ti 3 C 2 @GNRs/PDA/Ti 3 C 2 . This paper offers a practicable method to prepare Ti 3 C 2 MXene-based nanoplatform with synergistically enhanced NIR drug release behavior, brilliant biocompatibility and high drug loading efficiency, which is expected to be applied in remote cancer therapy.

An interdigitated capacitance immunosensing system based enzymatic biocatalytic precipitation on micro-comb electrode was designed for the sensitive detection of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) by coupling Ti 3 C 2 MXenes with tyramine signal amplification strategy. The immunosensor was prepared by immobilizing anti-PSA capture antibody on MXenes-coated interdigitated electrode, whereas gold nanoparticles heavily functionalized with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and detection antibody were utilized as the signal-transducer tags. Introduction of interdigitated electrode was expected to enhance the sensitivity of capacitance immunosensor. This system mainly consisted of the sandwich-type immunoreaction, formation of tyramine-HRP repeats on gold nanoparticle and enzymatic biocatalytic precipitation. The concatenated HRP through the tyramine oxidized numerous 4-chloro-1-naphthol molecules into insoluble benzo-4-chlorohexadienone with the help of H 2 O 2 , and coated the modified immunosensor to keep free ions away from the electrode, thus causing the local alteration in the capacitance. Under optimum conditions, the change of the immunosensor in the capacitance increased with the increasing target PSA concentrations from 0.1 ng mL −1 to 50 ng mL −1 at a detection limit of 0.031 ng mL −1 . Moreover, the interdigitated capacitance immunosensor showed good reproducibility, high specificity and acceptable accuracy for the analysis of human serum specimens in comparison with those obtained from commercial human PSA ELISA kit. Importantly, Ti 3 C 2 MXenes-based interdigitated capacitance transducer open new opportunities for protein diagnostics and biosecurity.

Active co-catalysts have been extensively used for improving photocatalytic activity in semiconductor-based photocatalytic systems. Herein, 2D alkalized Ti 3 C 2 (Ti 3 C 2 -OH) nano-sheets were coupled with CdS via a facile electrostatic self-assembly strategy and combined with hydrothermal method to prepare Ti 3 C 2 -OH/CdS photocatalyst. The morphologies, crystal phases, optical and photoelectrical properties of the prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, PL, and EIS analysis, respectively. The photocatalytic degradation results verified that the photo-degradation performance of Ti 3 C 2 -OH/CdS photocatalyst (degradation of 97% RhB in 100 min) was obviously superior to that of pure CdS (degradation of 70% RhB in 100 min) and Ti 3 C 2 /CdS (degradation of 82% RhB in 100 min). The active species trapping experiments for Ti 3 C 2 -OH/CdS photocatalyst revealed that the superoxide radical ( · O 2 − ) and holes (h + ) were the predominant species for degradation of RhB. Furthermore, the Ti 3 C 2 -OH co-catalyst in the Ti 3 C 2 -OH/CdS composite not only played the role of promoting the effective separation of photo-generated electron–hole pairs, but also constructing strong connections with CdS semiconductor to establish heterostructure, ultimately enhancing the photocatalytic performance of the Ti 3 C 2 -OH/CdS photocatalyst.

Building heterojunctions and exposing more catalytic active sites are effective strategies to enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity. Herein, TiO 2 nanosheets are oxidized in situ on Ru-loaded MXene as carriers and subsequently loaded with uniform 2D CdS via hydrothermal method to obtain 2D Ru/Ti 3 C 2 -TiO 2 /CdS composite photocatalysts that integrate heterojunctions and cocatalysts. The formation of heterojunction between CdS and TiO 2 is conducive to promoting the separation and transfer of photogenerated charges, simultaneously, Ru/Ti 3 C 2 with the fully exposed Ru and Ti 3 C 2 can act as effective active sites of photocatalytic hydrogen production reaction. The composite photocatalyst exhibits an improved hydrogen production rate with 5479 µmol g −1 h −1 , which is 5, 3, and four times more than that of pristine CdS, CdS loaded Ti 3 C 2 -TiO 2 and CdS loaded Ru-TiO 2 respectively. The results reveal that the notable enhancement in performance can primarily be ascribed to the introduction of the TiO 2 /CdS heterojunction and the efficient cocatalysts of Ru/Ti 3 C 2 . Moreover, the 2D Ti 3 C 2 with high conductivity as carriers can increase charge transfer, and its 2D structure can serve as a template for growing 2D photocatalysts with higher activity. The interface engineering with multiple interfaces can offer novel insights for the advancement of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction catalysts.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a highly toxic mycotoxin and widely distributed in food matrixes, posing a serious threat to human health. In this work, a novel sensing platform based on liquid exfoliated graphene/Ti 3 C 2 MXene (LEG/Ti 3 C 2 MXene) nanocomposite was proposed to achieve ultrasensitive detection of trace AFB1 in response to the urgent issue, in which the LEG/Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanocomposites modified indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode acted as transducer, ferrocene (Fc) labeled aptamer (Fc-Apt) and methylene blue (MB) labeled complementary DNA (MB-cDNA) functioned as dual-signal probes, and the conformational change of hairpin-aptamer was regarded as signal “on-off” switch. The irregular Ti 3 C 2 MXene flakes interspersed between LEG sheets layer provided assistance in enhancing sensing performance, specifically, it not only effectively reduced the self-stacking and increased the specific surface area, but also provided multiple interlayer spacing to improve electron transfer efficiency. In the presence of AFB1, its competition with MB-cDNA led to the reappear of hairpin structure for Fc-Apt and the releasing of MB-cDNA, resulting in the removal of MB and fixing Fc close to the electrode surface. As a result, the peak current ratio of Fc to MB (I Fc to I MB ) would change accordingly, which served as the basis for qualitative analysis of AFB1. Under the optimal conditions, the constructed aptasensor exhibited excellent sensitivity with a wide linear range from 0.0001 to 100 ng/mL and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.041 pg/mL, as well as satisfactory selectivity, reproducibility, and stability, revealing its promising potential applications in food safety monitoring.

Sodium-ion-based capacitors and batteries are considered as a low-cost energy storage technology alternative to their lithium-ion counterparts owing to the abundance of sodium in Earth. Their widespread use is however limited by the lack of high-performance electrode materials. In this work, we report that MXenes-Ti3C2 can be oxidized into a Ti-peroxo complex gel at room temperature by simply adding H2O2, from concentrated to dilute. The highly water-soluble property of this gel allows the synthesis of a graphene-supported TiO2 nanocomposite with highly porous nano-/meso-hybrid architecture via a more facile and environmentally friendly way. The unique hybrid architecture of the produced TiO2–RGO nanocomposite results in pseudocapacitive behavior in Na+ charge storage with high reversibility, fast kinetics, long cyclability, and negligible degradation to the parent structure. By incorporating the TiO2–RGO composite as the anode, a novel sodium-ion capacitor is constructed that is capable of operating at a high voltage of 4.0 V and delivering a maximum energy density of 94.7 W h kg−1, which is comparable to lithium-ion based capacitors. The approach reported here could be potentially extended for fabricating a host of MXenes-derived metal oxide nanomaterials or nanocomposites for numerous applications, particularly in view of the expanding MXenes portfolio.

The purposeful modulation of interfacial charge transfer pathways in heterogeneous structures is an innovative and feasible strategy to improve photocatalysis efficiency. However, it is often characterized by difficulties in charge separation and transport and the high charge recombination limits its applications. Herein, a Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S-based heterostructure of Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S@Ti 3 C 2 /Ag/CeO 2 was fabricated in which the efficient electron transfer route was designed by synergistic action of Z-scheme and Schottky junction. Serial characterizations and Density-Functional Theory calculations identify the Schottky junction promoted the electrons in Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S to transfer to Ti 3 C 2 , whereas the Z-scheme heterojunction accelerated the electrons transfer from CeO 2 to Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S@Ti 3 C 2 with Ag acting as the electronic intermediary. Significantly, the optimized Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S@Ti 3 C 2 /Ag/CeO 2 exhibited stronger photocatalytic H 2 evolution of 16.3 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of 29.8 % at 420 nm, which was 4.2 times higher than the pristine Cd 0.3 Zn 0.7 S material. This work offers valuable insights into realizing the desired charge transfer route through artificial heterointerface and a new possibility for applying Cd 1-x Zn x S materials in photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries represent a promising energy storage system with the potential to replace traditional lithium-ion batteries. Recent research has explored the practical applications of Li–S batteries. However, due to the insulation properties of the sulfur components and the shuttle effect of polysulfides, the practical application of Li–S batteries is hindered by poor cycle stability and short life. In this study, we developed a controllable three-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 structure design process, and through in situ growth of TiO 2 nanocrystals, we prepared three-dimensional porous materials with TiO 2 @Ti 3 C 2 heterostructures. These materials constructed using two-dimensional lamellar Ti 3 C 2 function as a conductive skeleton to improve the conductivity of the sulfur cathodes, and through the in-situ growth of nano-TiO 2 to introduce more binding sites and provide more chemisorption sites to limit the dissolution and shuttle of polysulfides. In addition, the TiO 2 @Ti 3 C 2 heterointerface generated in situ on the surface of the lamellar structure can induce an internal electric field and increase active reaction sites, which promotes reaction kinetics, accelerates charge diffusion/transport, and promotes LiPS transformation. The materials designed in this study can effectively restrain the shuttle effect by realising the association process of adsorption, capture, and transformation of polysulfides. Thus, when applied as the sulfur cathode frame, it shows a high specific capacity of 1261.41 mAh g −1 at a rate of 0.1 C. In addition, a specific capacity of 66.5% is maintained over 500 cycles at a rate of 1 C. This strategy supports the development of Li–S batteries with extraordinary performance and opens up a promising way to design next-generation electrochemical energy storage devices.

This study successfully developed a highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor based on the ECL resonance energy transfer mechanism for detecting the key biomarker of acute myocardial infarction, heart–type fatty acid binding protein (h–FABP). Through the meticulous design of the Ag/Cu2O/Ti3C2 ternary nanocomposite material, this material demonstrated significant catalase–like catalytic activity, enabling the efficient decomposition of H2O2 to generate more superoxide radicals (O₂•⁻), thereby significantly enhancing the ECL signal of the luminol–H2O2 system. Notably, AgS quantum dots (AgS QDs), due to broad–spectrum ultraviolet absorption overlapping with the ECL emission spectrum of luminol, triggered an efficient energy resonance transfer effect, resulting in the decrease of ECL intensity. NH2–MIL–101(Fe) was utilized to couple with AgS QDs (AgS QDs@NH2–MIL–101(Fe)), which can further enhance the quenching efficiency. Based on this signal–off strategy, an ultrasensitive detection platform for h–FABP was successfully constructed. Experimental results indicated that the immunosensor exhibited an excellent response relationship within a wide linear range from 1.00 fg mL–1 to 100 ng mL–1, and a low detection limit reached 0.36 fg mL–1 (S/N = 3). This study provides an innovative methodological approach for ultra–trace detection of myocardial injury markers and demonstrates significant application potential in early clinical diagnosis.

Environmental issues, such as increasingly polluted water resources and energy shortages, have led to the need for new strategies to promote sustainable progress and enhance human well-being. Photocatalysis is widely recognized as a promising technology for environmental sustainability. MXene is a two-dimensional nanotransition metal material, which has attracted extensive attention in the field of photocatalysis. In MXenes, titanium carbide (Ti3C2) has been extensively studied for its application in photocatalysis due to its unique nanolayered structure. The Ti site on the surface of Ti3C2 has a stronger redox activity than traditional C materials, and Ti3C2 has high electrical conductivity. The focus of this study is to obtain the Ti3C2/TiO2 composite by in situ calcination of Ti3C2 and then combine Mo,W:BVO with TiO2 to form feasible heterojunctions. The excellent electrical conductivity of Ti3C2 promotes the transfer of electrons and holes between Mo,W:BVO and TiO2, thus establishing a cascade that minimizes charge carrier recombination and exhibits strong photocatalytic activity. Through a series of photocatalytic tests, the optimum calcination temperature and time of Ti3C2 (550 °C, 2.5 h) and the doping amount of Ti3C2 (2 mg/mL) were determined. Under these conditions, a high current density of 3.8 mA cm–2 was obtained, showing excellent photostability. This study confirmed the strong photocatalytic activity of the synthesized nanoscale composites Mo,W:BVO/TiO2/Ti3C2, providing valuable insights for the design of efficient and sustainable photocatalysts in the future.
