Mingxue Shi,Liguo Jin,Chaofeng Wang,Congyang Mao,Xiangmei Liu,Zhaoyang Li,Shengli Zhu,Hui Jiang,Zhenduo Cui,Yufeng Zheng,Shuilin Wu

Compared to phototherapy, microwave therapy has emerged as a promising approach for the treatment of deeply tissue-infected osteomyelitis owing to deep penetration ability, precise positioning heating, low damage to normal tissue. However, it is still significant to design materials with efficient microwave thermal conversion. In this paper, capacitor-like structure Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/CNT is prepared to achieve high microwave thermal conversion efficiencies for safe and efficient microwave therapy through mechanisms associated with polarization and induced electric fields. Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/CNT have been shown to achieve significant microwave thermal effects at varying thicknesses of tissue barrier and can rapidly increase the temperature in a short period of time, effectively causing 98.80% eradication of Staphylococcus aureus and 99.24% eradication of Escherichia coli within 20 min. Combined with remarkable antimicrobial effect and acceptable biocompatibility, this may provide reference for the safe and effective microwave therapy strategies to treat osteomyelitis.

Ti3C2Tx MXene- and Sulfuric Acid-Treated Double-Network Hydrogel with Ultralow Conductive Filler Content for Stretchable Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Peng Li,Henan Wang,Zhongshi Ju,Zhongzheng Jin,Jiangang Ma,Lin Yang,Xiaoning Zhao,Haiyang Xu,Yichun Liu

Hydrogels are emerging as stretchable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials because of their tissue-like mechanical properties and water-rich porous cellular structures. However, achieving high-performance hydrogel shields remains a challenge because enhancing conductivity often results in a compromise in deformation adoptability. This work proposes a treatment strategy involving sulfuric acid/titanium carbide MXene, which can simultaneously enhance the conductivity and stretchability of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) double-network hydrogels. Multiple spectroscopic characterizations reveal that sulfuric acid promotes the linear conformation transition of the PEDOT molecular chain, while MXene increases charge delocalization and hydrogen bond cross-linking sites. The hydrogels, synthesized with a combined content of 0.6 wt % of MXene and PEDOT:PSS, exhibit an average X-band EMI SE of 41 dB. This performance is sustained at 94.5%, even following stretching and release at a strain of 200%. Interestingly, the EMI SE is found to linearly increase, reaching a value of 99 dB as the frequency is increased to 26.5 GHz. This increase is attributed to the enhanced water molecular polarization process, as supported by theoretical calculations of the impedance and attenuation constant. This work introduces a post-treatment technique that optimizes double-network hydrogels, providing deep insights into their EMI shielding mechanism and enabling high-performance EMI shielding with an ultralow conductive filler content.

Additive-Free Ti3C2Tx MXene Actuator with Large Deformation, Programmability, and High-Humidity Stability via Precise Interlayer Spacing Control Engineering

Haowen Zheng,Liangliang Xu,Qian Yan,Zonglin Liu,He Chen,Huanxin Lian,Yunxiang Chen,Teng Fei,Yiming Hu,Fuhua Xue,Xu Zhao,Cong Zhang,Qingyu Peng,Xiaodong He

Introducing external substances to intercalate MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) or combining MXene with other inert materials to construct bilayer/multilayer structures is the current mainstream solution for improving actuation performance of MXene-based actuators. Possible issues include the degradation in mechanical and electrical properties of MXene, or the decrease in actuation performance or even structural damage of the actuator under frequent actuation. Besides, the structural and actuation performance stability of MXene-based actuators under high humidity environment also remain challenges. These issues limit the potential multifunctional integration and sustainable applications of MXene-based actuators. Here, an additive-free Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene actuator with multistimulus response, large deformation, programmability, and excellent stability under high humidity environment is fabricated. By sequentially assembling MXene nanosheets with significant size differences, additive-free MXene film with gradient structure is obtained. An innovative cyclic low-temperature annealing-rehydration technology is proposed, which achieves precise control of interlayer d -spacing, initial shape, and actuation behavior of the actuator, and significantly improves its structural and actuation performance stability under high humidity environment. This work not only provides a new paradigm for designing high-performance MXene-based actuators, but also deepens the fundamental understanding of interlayer engineering of 2D materials, laying the foundation for the development of next-generation sustainable intelligent materials and devices.

Developing Schottky high-controductivity Ti3C2TX MXene/Ni2P/NF heterojunction with modulating surface electron density to boost hydrogen evolution reaction

Fangfang Liu,Shan Ji,Xinyu Liu,Zihao Li,Jimei Song,Hao Li,Hui Wang

Nickel-based transition metal electrocatalysts for water electrolysis are promising alternatives to precious metal based electrocatalysts, due to their high activity, low cost, and relatively high stability, offering broad prospects for application in hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Modifying nickel-based transition metal electrocatalysts with phosphorus elements and Schottky heterojunction interfaces can influence the electronic state of the metal, thus enhance the electrocatalytic performance of the catalyst. In this study, a phosphor modified nickel-based electrocatalyst, i.e. MXene/Ni 2 P/NF electrode material was obtained by assembling Ni 2 P nanosheets on a nickel foam (NF) substrate and then depositing MXene nanosheets onto the surface of Ni 2 P/NF via electrophoretic deposition. Water droplets can wet the interior of the electrode material within 150 ms (below the detection limit), demonstrating excellent hydrophilicity, which facilitates the wettability of the electrolyte and the adsorption/desorption of reaction intermediates. Electrochemical tests revealed that the MXene/Ni 2 P/NF electrode exhibits an overpotential of only 94 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , with a Tafel slope of 83.7 mV dec −1 , in the hydrogen evolution reaction. The overpotential remains virtually unchanged after a 24-h stability test.

Mengru Liu,Taotao Zhe,Limin Zhu,Fan Li,Kaixuan Ma,Chenyu Xuan,Qinlin Feng,Shaohui Ouyang,Li Wang

The contamination of nitrofurantoin (NFT) antibiotics in the food chain poses significant threats to environmental and public health, emphasizing the urgent need for rapid and portable detection. This study presents an electrochemical sensor based on a 2D/2D van der Waals heterojunction of VS 2 and Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene integrated onto a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE). Interfacial engineering of Ti S bonds creates efficient charge transfer pathways and a directional built-in electric field, enhancing charge dynamics and electroreduction efficiency. The VS 2 /Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-SPCE sensor shows an ultralow detection limit of 4.7 nM, a wide linear range (0.01–400 μM), and high stability with strong resistance to interference. Its practical applicability was validated by successful NFT detection in tap water, lake water, milk, and honey, yielding satisfactory results. This work highlights the catalytic potential of VS 2 / Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene heterojunctions and demonstrates the sensor as a promising tool for environmental monitoring and food safety.

Engineering the Recombination Layer with Ti3C2Tx MXene/IZO for Enhanced Charge Extraction in Monolithic Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cells

Chen Li,Dongting Ye,Jiangbo Tan

Recombination layer engineering is a key enabler in monolithic perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells, where charge extraction and optical management must be simultaneously optimized. In this study, we introduce a composite Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/indium zinc oxide (IZO) interlayer as a tunable recombination layer to enhance both electrical and optical performance in two-terminal tandem architectures. The interlayers were fabricated by integrating few-layer Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene flakes into an IZO matrix, forming a conductive yet transparent network. Systematic tuning of MXene content revealed that the sample with 10 vol% (MX-10) offered a low resistivity (∼1.69 mΩ·cm), and high optical transmittance. EIS and TRPL analyses demonstrated improved charge recombination dynamics and enhanced carrier extraction. When implemented in monolithic tandems, the MX-10-based device achieved a PCE of 26.67%, outperforming the ITO-based control device (24.40%), with improved J SC and FF. Long-term stability testing over 1000 hours under continuous illumination revealed only 9.5% degradation in MX-10 devices, confirming the material's promise for practical applications. Our findings highlight the synergistic role of MXene and IZO in constructing an efficient, transparent, and stable interfacial layer for next-generation tandem photovoltaics.

High-performance solution-processed Ti3C2Tx MXene doped ZnSnO thin-film transistors via the formation of a two-dimensional electron gas

Tianshi Zhao,Chenguang Liu,Chun Zhao,Wangying Xu,Yina Liu,Ivona Z. Mitrovic,Eng Gee Lim,Li Yang,Ce Zhou Zhao

MXenes are a large class of two-dimensional (2D) materials widely studied recently since they have good water solubility and are able to tune the work function (WF) of materials without changing their electronic characteristics. Based on this, aqueous solution-processed indium-free zinc tin oxide (ZTO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) have been fabricated under an annealing temperature of 300 °C and successfully optimized. This optimization is achieved by fabricating a channel layer into a homojunction structure (MXene doped ZTO/ZTO) to form a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). Through doping the specific concentrations of Ti3C2Tx MXenes into the upper layer ZTO thin films, the TFTs exhibit enhanced field-effect mobilities (μFE) of 10.77 cm2 V−1 s−1 and 13.06 cm2 V−1 s−1 as well as a large on/off current ratio of more than 108. Moreover, compared with the undoped double-layer ZTO TFTs, the homojunction devices show better stability, mainly resulting from the transformation in leading conduction mode. Finally, through applying the homojunction channel on the solution-processed aluminum oxide (AlOx) dielectric layer, the μFE exhibits a further enhanced value of 28.35 cm2 V−1 s−1. This is the first report to apply MXenes to the channel layer of TFTs and to fabricate solution-processed ZTO thin films via an aqueous solvent under 300 °C.

In situ synthesis of Ti3C2Tx MXene/CoS nanocomposite as high performance counter electrode materials for quantum dot-sensitized solar cells

Xiaobo Chen,Yefei Zhuang,Qingyu Shen,Xiaoyu Cao,Wen Yang,Peizhi Yang

Low electrocatalytic activity and/or high charge transfer resistance of counter electrodes (CEs) in quantum-dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) are the main reasons for the low photovoltaic performance . Herein, the CoS nanoparticles are anchored on the MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) via a simple in-situ hydrothermal reaction process. It is the first attempt to use the MXene/CoS as a highly electrocatalytic CE for QDSSCs . The QDSSCs with a MXene/CoS CE shows a significant enhancement in cell performances and yields a promising power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.09% compared with that of the QDSSCs with bare CoS (5.77%) and bare MXene (4.25%) CEs. The significant enhancement of PCE value is mainly attributed to the synergistic effects of the unique layered morphology of conductive MXene nanosheets and its cocatalysis with CoS nanoparticles. The coupling of layered MXene with small CoS nanoparticles (~15 nm) provides abundant catalytic active sites. The improved mesoporous morphology contributes a high specific surface area and fast electron transfer channels for S x 2− reduction. Consequently, the MXene/CoS nanocomposite can be utilized as an effective agent to boost up the photovoltaic performance of QDSSCs.

Coaxial Spinning Ti3C2TX MXene Fibers with Spontaneous Radial Densification Achieves Simultaneous Improvements in Both Mechanical Strength and Charge Storage Ability

Fanjie Shi,Henghan Dai,Ning He,Yang Guo,Yufan Shen,Huifang Wang,Hai Xu,Yuzhen Wang,Gengzhi Sun

Ti3C2TX MXene with good mechanical strength, metallic conductivity and ultrahigh volumetric capacitance is a promising candidate for developing advanced fibers toward the applications of fibrous supercapacitors (FSCs); however, the weak interlayer interaction, random stacking during coagulation and unsuitable channels for ion transport impose crucial difficulties in continuous spinning strong MXene fibers with desirable charge storage ability. Herein, we propose a coaxial spinning strategy accompanying with spontaneous radial densification for the simultaneous achievements of both improved fiber mechanical strength and charge storage capability. The intercalation of sodium alginate (SA) in core (S/M) expands interlayer spacing and produces suitable paths for ion diffusion, while the presence of SA/graphene oxide (S/G) sheath generates radial compression during dehydration because of capillary force, enhances stress transfer within fiber, and avoid short circuit in FSC. The optimized S/M@S/G fiber exhibits a tensile strength of 238 MPa and a volumetric capacitance of 906 F cm−3 at 1 A cm−3. The assembled FSCs provide a capacitance of 153 F cm−3 together with an energy density of 13.6 mWh cm−3. Notably, owing to the improved mechanical properties, FSCs can be weaved into glove and provide power for an electronic watch.

Ag–Ti3C2Tx MXene mediated H2O2 reduction for electrochemical biosensing of kanamycin in real samples based on split aptamer engineering strategy

Chenglong Chen,Qiaoxia Zhang,Xiajuan Wang,Ran Miao,Tiesheng Shi,Qingyun Liu

To resolve the conflict between multidimensional interferences derived from complex matrices and the stringent requirements for trace-level detection sensitivity, a novel electrochemical aptasensor was constructed for highly sensitive kanamycin (KANA) detection based on a split aptamer engineering strategy. Ag–Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, synthesized via in-situ reduction of silver nanoparticles onto the surface of two-dimensional MXene nanosheets, is employed for electrode decoration. This composite possesses abundant binding sites for aptamer 1 (Apt1) immobilization and exhibits outstanding catalytic performance in the reduction of H 2 O 2 . Signal acquisitions were performed under reductive potential conditions, endowing the sensor with superior anti-interference capability. Upon KANA addition, aptamer 2 (Apt2) can assemble into a ternary structure with the target and Apt1, leading to the displacement of cDNA and triggering a signal-down response. Under optimized conditions, the fabricated aptasensor presents a broad linear range of 1∼20000 nM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12 nM, and exhibits excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and strong stability. In addition, the aptasensor demonstrates satisfactory recovery rates in real sample analysis, indicating its great potential for practical applications. The combination of Ag–Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanocomposite and split aptamer engineering technology provides a feasible strategy for highly sensitive detections of trace-level antibiotic residues in complex food matrices.

High-Performance Coaxial Electrospun rGO/Ti3C2Tx MXene@PAN Nanofibers for Enhanced Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Thermal Insulation at Extreme Environments

Tibebu Shiferaw Kassa,Abdurohman Mengesha Yessuf,Ayenew Meniber Mihiretu,Minable Endaye Rass,Mohamedazeem M. Mohideen,Yong Liu

The rapid transition from 5G to 6G wireless technologies has led to a substantial increase in electromagnetic interference (EMI), posing significant challenges to device reliability, signal integrity, and human health. There is an urgent need for lightweight, flexible, and efficient absorption-dominant EMI shielding materials. In this study, we propose a rationally designed coaxial electrospinning strategy to fabricate hierarchical MXene/reduced graphene oxide/polyacrylonitrile core–shell nanofibers. This design integrates a conductive, MXene-rich core surrounded by a reduced graphene oxide/polyacrylonitrile outer shell, encouraging simultaneous optimization of electrical conductivity, impedance matching, and polarization loss to achieve superior EMI shielding performance and thermal blocking. Interestingly, when the reduced graphene oxide to MXene ratio was optimized to be 1:2, the resultant composite nanofiber revealed an EMI shielding effectiveness of 74.38 dB at X-band, a shielding efficiency of 99.99999635%, a high electrical conductivity (169.81 S·cm–1), and an outstanding specific shielding effectiveness of 2.54 × 104 dB·cm2·g–1. Additionally, the sample exhibited effective thermal insulation, with the surface temperature rising by only 41 °C after 1 min of exposure to a 75 °C heat source. These findings highlight the synergy between the high electrical conductivity of MXene, which enables strong internal reflection and ohmic loss, and the interfacial polarization of reduced graphene oxide, which fosters multiple internal reflections that enhance absorption. This optimized, absorption-dominated mechanism provides valuable guidance for designing next-generation lightweight and flexible EMI shielding materials for applications in aerospace, 5G/6G communications, and advanced electronic devices.

Delaminated two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx Mxene engineered gadolinium nitride nanostructures as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions

Jayandra Bushion,Nithesh Kumar Krishnan,Chih-Yu Kuo,Stalin Thambusamy,Mani Govindasamy,Gaber E. Eldesoky

Developing cost-effective and efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts is critical for sustainable hydrogen production via overall water splitting. Here, we report the rational design and synthesis of a gadolinium nitride-decorated Mxene (Gd-N/Ti 3 C 2 T x ) nanocomposite as a high-performance bifunctional electrocatalyst. The Gd-N/Ti 3 C 2 T x hybrid shows excellent activity toward both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) under alkaline conditions. The optimized electrode exhibits low overpotentials of 315.2 mV for HER and 162.8 mV for OER at 10 mA cm −2 , with Tafel slopes of 142 and 234 mV dec −1 , respectively, indicating favorable kinetics. In a two-electrode alkaline water electrolyzer, Gd-N/Ti 3 C 2 T x achieves 10 mA cm −2 at a cell voltage of 1.74 V, outperforming individual Gd-N and Ti 3 C 2 T x electrodes. The system maintains stable operation at 10 mA cm −2 for 48 h with negligible voltage fluctuation. The enhanced performance arises from strong interfacial coupling between conductive Ti 3 C 2 T x layers and catalytically active Gd-N, which promotes rapid charge transfer, increases electrochemically active surface area, and facilitates reaction kinetics. This work demonstrates Gd-N/Ti 3 C 2 T x as an earth-abundant, durable, and efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting.
